What are some weapons you never see in any media? Preferably not things like exotic swords (which are still swords) but like pic related, which has a different mechanism than the regular version.

Fun fact: I threw in Weapon Training +20 (Atlatl) on my RT character sheet, as kind of a random "might be useful once" type of deal, and the GM let it in. The logic for the character was that on his home world, the traditional hunting implement is the Atlatl when sport hunting, and my RT loves sport hunting, and was the best thrower in his city before joining the Guard as a Corporal (and eventually working his way up to Colonel, then "granted" RT status), and he always kept up the tradition as a way of keeping in touch with his heritage.

Atlatls are fuck-easy to make, and very effective to use in a pinch when little else is available.

brock?

Throwing darts, oddly enough. Not fucking javelins, but things like the plumbatae or Swiss arrows, darts with a cord twisted around them to increase their range. You'd think they'd be the lowbrow scumbag weapon of choice, but apparently not.

Also, things like dueling glaives or the Indian bhuj.

Naginata's are pretty rare.

Inb4 it's just a spear

Seven Samurai had one if I'm not mistaken. Probably a shitload of animu too.

Hell no.

Net and Trident!

Trident and Net!

I like to call this maneuver "fishing for faggots"
>>
>>46465238
You probably don't see a lot of net and trident in media because 'throw a heavy net on them and then stab repeatedly' doesn't leave room for artful choreography.

I guess captain America counts, though he uses it more like a Zelda boomerang than a shield.

This one from Sakura Wars. I'm not into the genre at all, but I'm pretty sure there are lots of girls from battle harem that wield them. It's a feminine weapon after all.
>>
I actually have a 2e Dark Sun half giant who's specialized in javelins with an atl-atl, funnily enough
>>
I want to see some real flails. The long stick with a big floppy brick on one end kind. Or harpoons / harpoon launchers. Spear guns perhaps. Slingshots? And I know it isn't a weapon but for the love of the gods I need big heavily armored badasses without fucking horns on their helmet. They are everywhere and I hate them so fucking much.
>>
>>46466123
Well, an acceptable weapon for a woman, but then, bows were/are considered acceptable weapons too, and they were a primary weapon for Samurai.

It's really a question of "has reach, also has leverage". The reach allows for defensive fighting and the reach allows a relatively smaller and weaker female defender to wreck shit when she clouts some goon invading the castle over the head with it. (Well, I say that, but leverage + really probably rather sharp blade more means "possibly dismember or split head").

Also because it was never used in war, it was a show piece used in gladiator fights as comedic.

nah it actually was valid and serious in gladiator fights given every single fighting style had its advantage and disadvantage
>>
>>46463439
My wife actually got to teach a class on atlatl throwing when she worked at Mammoth Site in SD. They are dead easy, and have great range.
>>
>>46466643
The Net and Trident guy was one of the lower level gladiators considering that it would be simple as fuck to throw a net on someone and then stab them
You probably wouldn't see one of them fighting a lion in the Arena

Yep, it was one of Seung Mina's extra weapons. The one she starts with (the one in your pic) is like a guan dao only Korean, and I forget its name.

Naturally Koreans will insist it's superior by miles to both the naginata and the guan dao.
>>
>>46468360
What's the difference? They're all blades on a stick.
>>
>>46468385
Difference in local iron and steel, different crafting method, weight and shape.

I mean, all of them will serve the same function yes, but there is a difference.
>>
>>46468385

Different shape blades. Naginata blades are often relatively long and slender, a katana on a stick. Guan dao are more like falchions on a stick.
