You can have a Nexu as a companion in swtor
>>
>>48248889
Are you dense? It was removed from the archives. All of the surrounding systems are mapped but that one is conveniently missing. It was deliberately hidden. It has nothing to do with Obi Wan not having heard of it.

So it's possible that it was a secret member of the Republic (how would that work?) but that's more baseless speculation like your "clones totally might have an option to quit that was never ever mentioned so I can keep white knighting the Republic".
>>
>>48256338
Plus, is a treaty not authorized by the Senate even legal or binding?
>>
>>48256344
Yes, the Republic isn't a pure federal government.
>>
>>48256338
There were over 3000 years between the prequels and first contact. How the hell did nobody in the entire Republic figure out who was making kyber and saber darts? How is it that nobody knew about the Subterrel mining op or trace the clone personnel back to Kamino? How is Dexter the only person outside of Palpatine's conscpiracy to know about Kamino? How long ago were the archives wiped? If it happened years ago, why did none of the Jedi archivists detect deletions or tampering with their files and backups? And the likelihood of it being a Senate member the whole time is so minimal as to be zero, but that doesn't leave out the possibility of bullshit secret treaties, secret correspondences, or the wipe merely being recent. Obi-Wan and Yoda certainly never had any reason to type "Kamino" into a search engine before.

And we all know the clones were treated like shit. The Republic dealt them a shitty hand. No question there. All I'm arguing is that there is insufficient consistent hard evidence to classify pre-mind chip episode clones as slaves by modern legal definitions--there was remuneration, their treatment across writers was inconsistent, and a number of clones did manage to escape active combat duties with Kaminoan and Jedi consent. There was insufficient evidence to say they did or didn't have any real independence, and conscription is not universally considered a form of "slavery." But the mind chip pretty much nails the coffin shut in my long list of incredibly shaky arguments.
>>
>>48256878
>How is Dexter the only person outside of Palpatine's conscpiracy to know about Kamino?

DO NOT TRY TO MAKE SENSE OF THE PLOT OF EPISODE 2.

thoughts? The general idea is you space them out for maximum coverage, and have huge swaths of the board in your field of fire. The bombs are either for the initial sweep across the board, or to deter pursuers.
>>
>>48256897
It's simple. Count Douku is rallying systems to align against the Republic. He has bugs make robots so that the Republic gets scared and they make clones to fight the robots but the clones were already made before the robots. The Galactic republic is made up of 1000 worlds and can't raise a volunteer army. Padme is the chief senator opposed to the military creation act. She has constant attempts on her life. Obi Wan finds Kamino because he was tracing the source of the darts that Jengo Fett was using to try to kill padme. No one knows about Kamino, not even Yoda who has been alive for 800 years. Obi Wan sees the clones and discovers the order to make them was placed under suspicious circumstances, ten years ago, at the exact same time that Palpatine was elected chancellor.

So Obi Wan tells the Jedi order about a gigantic clone army that no one knows about being built on a planet no one knows about that he found while he was following evidence that was leading him to the people attempting to assassinate a senator against a military buildup. He informs the Jedi council, who suspect a sith lord is behind it all.

Since someone is trying to kill padme for no reason they use her as bait to draw out the assassin trying to kill her. The assassin is a shapeshifter who can change their face by thinking it and was wearing a disguise. They chase the assassin to a sports bar where the assassin tries to sneak up on obi wan instead of trying to escape. Obi Wan cuts off the assassins arm and they die.

So Anakin takes padme back to naboo because the Jedi coucil thinks she will be safer there The Jedi think that Anakin is the best person to take her on a romantic getaway because they are star crossed lovers and love leads to the Dark Side. Once you make a personal commitment to follow the rigid lifestyle of the Jedi order when you are 2 you aren't allowed to love anymore. Padme isn't allowed to date anyone because she is a senator. There are many obstacles in this romance that is happening. Anakin murders women and children and brings a corpse back and goes on a megalomaniacal rant. After that, Anakin and Padme get married.

maybes though its that prior to the 80-90's, no one really thought "hmm I should appease nerdy fans by making sure everything about my fictional world makes sense"

I think that, at least only considering the OT, Obi-Wan was once a idealistic crusader, often running off to have adventures and rescue princesses and such and that eventually drew Anakin in.

But that was a long time ago, time and desert sun, and old pain have worn him down into an old man. Luke idolizes his father, he's young and learning the truth would have been.... well, no one ever really recovers from the realization that one or both parents are shitbags.

Now, SHOULD Obi-Wan have told him? Yeah, that certain point of view shit was not okay and I've been on the receiving of that and 'we're only doing what's best for you'. But I can understand why he did it and Luke gets a valuable lesson that his teachers are fallible.

Or you could go with the whole picture which is Obi-Wan was involved in so much and knew so much that he could have told this kid that he NEEDED to know, which is actually worse.

Not really. Threepio emulates a civilian model droid that's had multiple memory wipes and R2 actually IS one and doesn't have the ability to communicate with the average joe.
Though I can imagine Ben dragged Artoo over to a corner at some point and said "keep your trap shut or I'm going ham with the arc welder"
You've got a much more compelling argument of "why didn't Artoo (who's shown to be able to communicate with Luke at least in later installments) never bring up 'hey I was your dad's co-pilot for LITERALLY YEARS and I was there when Benny fucking rekt him"

I don't think anyone's arguing that wasn't a dick move on Obi-Wans part. But both him and Yoda show the main theme that they've lost their way in some regard, which is why even after the whole "only act in defense" spiel and otherwise they're still going 'naw dog you have to kill vader, no other option'.
Yeah it's silly there's so much he didn't let on but doesn't that happen with any series with expanded universe style stuff or pre-original product spinoff?

Honestly, I think that Obi-Wan had every intention of telling him the truth when they got to Alderaan. Which then got changed to "when we escape this deathstar". Which given that Leia would be there as well he'd probably have told them the entire story.

But, well, then Darth literally caught up to him RIGHT outside the fucking hangar, and he knew he was fucked.

Anyone else feel like bombs in xwing are fairly useless? They cost a lot of points and do little damage. This is because your opponent gets to know if you're bringing them at the start of the game either by looking at your cards or your type of ship.
>>
>>48259718
No, they can be super useful. Mines are especially good on lower PS ships that move first, while bombs are better on ships that are moving afterwards. Note however that this does not mean high PS shouldn't use mines, or low PS shouldn't use bombs...

The thing about bombs and mines, is that theyr require a certain amount of skill beyond pointing yourself at what you want to die. And it doesn't help that the major bomb-using ships have pilots that completely change how you use them... Y-Wings and Tie Bombers are fairly straightforward, but then you have Deathfire who can drop them as a free action, Deathrain (Punisher) who can drop them in front of him and the roll out of the way, Emon (Firespray) who is the troll master of dumping them in front of anyone, and K-wings that can drop them a bit further behind if they want (bombadier) and don't give a shit about actions thanks to TLT.
>>
>>48258628
Because we really do not need Ezra piloting the shuttle, with Chewie onboard, and R2-D2 plugged into it.

Is this the most Mad Max'd starfighter in all of Star Wars? Did this modded Delta-7 trend ever catch on? Because damn, I'd want one.
>>
>>48260144
It's smooth, it's decently sleek, it isn't a rusted up piece of junk. So no, it isn't Mad Max. At all.

Smashing a Y-wing and a Headhunter together and keeping it all in one piece with hand-riveted pieces of scrap metal, that's Mad Max.
>>
>>48260170
I meant more of Mad Max's Interceptor. It was originally a heavily modified Police Pursuit car in the first movie, and those thrusters on the front of Anakin's ship really remind me of the fuel tanks on Max's V8.

It'd be the 'Last of the Delta-7's'.
>>
>>48259954
Alright thanks I guess I'll try them some more. But if I'm not mistaken, bombs don't really see much competitive play do they?
>>
>>48260338
Some. Not a lot. But you do see Conner Nets on occasion. The main competitive problem with them is that they require a bit of skill and sometimes lucky prediction on how to use. However a good bomb placement will fuck up Aces quite handily. I've seen more than one Soontir end up with a prox mine or conner net in his face. The former is hilarious as it usually means they have to burn their Palp that turn to keep him from exploding spectacularly. The latter is a "well fuck..." moment, as he isn't likely to survive another round or two.

It was pretty much 3 cards. The first attempt was Munitions Failsafe, so you only lose the ordnance if it hits. Thst proved to be very "meh..."

Extra Munitions was the next attempt, adding in cheap extra uses provided you had the torp slot for it. It's pretty much auto-include if you have two torp slots or a torp + bomb/missile.

Guidance Chip was what hit it out of the park, though. Modifying a die to a hit (crit), especially if it's blank), guarantees you get about 2 hits on a Proton Torp. It's really what made ordnance viable beyond Epic games.

Which leads to the interesting fact that ordnance has long since worth using in Epic games, where spending 12pts on Protons for your 3 T-65s, is actually useful when you've got 300pts to burn.

Lets say I have a ship that I want to install smuggling compartments on. If I install smuggling compartments twice, does the difference get added to my total encumbrance?

Like if I have encumbrance 75, and I add smuggling compartments twice and cloaked smuggling compartments twice, do I get 100 encumbrance?
>>
>>48261986

I'm pretty sure the notes on the smuggling compartments say you can't ever exceed your ship's total Encumbrance capacity, they just allow you to hide some of it from prying eyes. And then you can mod them to hold more encumbrance, but still at cap. If you've got something like a Gozanti which actually has a decent number of Hardpoints and a lot of E, you could probably install multiple compartments to be able to hide more E, but the ship still has a hard limit on how much cargo it can fix.

Anon, I could use some feedback on my list.

I'll try to tl:dr it, but basically it's for a custom Fat/Ace game were the squad point total is about 175. So, super-every-armament ace on ace fight.

For a more in depth perspective, it's between me and two other anons to get drunk and blast star wars music while we play. And we're all relatively new to the game and aren't competitive--but we are assholes. And that should count fir something. So all three of us play solely one faction--me Scum and the other two are Imp and Rebs.

I'm going for those three ships against their fat veterens also. So I expect to see a decked out Vader, Ketan, Tycho, Sootnir, and the Falcon or Outrider. Most likely It will be one on one but probably a free for all 1v1v1 at some point. I'm trying to outfit these three specifc iconic pilots/title/ships the best way that they can but fitted to kill and outlast Rebel/Imp Aces. Thoughs? I feel if it can survive a /swg/ thread it'll survive against the other two anons.

Real tl;dr -- Plz halp me wit dis scum list for a special 175 point Ace game tyty.

Dark Empire II.jpg

Ok. So, this was kind of a surprise, but Dark Empire II is better than Dark Empire. Its still batshit crazy with the strongest thing going for it being the art and worldbuilding concepts introduced (Jedi Battle Meditation, Shadow Droids, Anakin Solo being born, The Ysanna tribe, Ood Bnar being a weird tree Jedi). It also synergizes better with the EU of the time, showing toddler Jaina & Jacen, Winter (who were all hidden away on "New Alderaan" because Jedi Babbys would be a high priority target). Some of the new characters are pretty great, including Kam Solusar as Luke's first official student and Executor Sedriss being a Dark Jedi who's not COMPLETELY retarded until he is, which gets him killed

But the Goofy stuff is absolutely goofy. The Galaxy Gun is a Superweapon of the Week, Empatojayos Brand's interesting backstory is ruined by him being a floating pinball with arms (and his Steampunk kingdom hidden inside a nebula is plain weird some nice ship designs though and mercifully didn't get mentioned again). CloneSheeve's ("Sheeeve's?") Dark Jedi Elite are almost universally Chaotic Stupid. Boba Fett does nothing but job to Han Solo which is nothing new, but it still makes him seem less of a threat. Lando is nothing but a terrible general in this series (and Wedge is a ground commander for some reason). Mon Mothma and Akbar make stupid command decisions which leads a fake out where they're presumed killed by the Galaxy Gun, but they show up perfectly fine at the end. Also, Luke makes out with his female Ysanna student, Jem immediately before she gets thrown on the Dead Girlfriend pile. "The Force will protect them" my ass

Still, as flashy and dumb as it is, Dark Empire II has a coherent plot, which puts it ahead of its predecessor. Unfortunately, you kind of have to read the first series for this one to make sense.

Optional Tier.

No, I didn't forget those. Deadeye's been around since the A-Wing expansion pack. At the time of it's inclusion, it was not seen as a "fix", but rather a way to add a little more functionality to aces by allowing them to not need target locks. A lot of it's purpose was to have situations like Luke being a motherfucking space-sorcerer.

Long Range Scanners came out specifically in the Veterans pack, and weren't supposed to be a fix for ordnance so much as another option for Bombers and ships with missiles and torps. It was in development when Guidance Chips were on the boat, but it seems like it wasn't ever meant to actually fix anything.

I wish Dengar's pilot ability was as good as his crew upgrade.

But, just for purely preference, I'm going themed here with the squadron's roster. It's centered around Fett and anyone that would work with him--and less likely to double-cross/stab him in the back. Dengar has helped in the past. And Zuckuss? Well, if I knew the little guy had it in him then I'd be concerned. But we all know Zuckuss is just a big fluffy Gand kitten. So, yes, Dengar will be flying the Punishing One.

hey guys I was thinking of writing some star wars fanfiction/au

I'm trying to jam in some probably shitty OCs in the OT. what excuse could I give that they get caught in with the ANH plotline. I'm going for a sheltered imperial thing, but I want them to be in a family with fairly important military people. I mean I was thinking that they missed their scheduled transport so they just so happen to wedge themselves in the Tantive IV (maybe Antilles didnt think it would be too much of a problem, if not even better cover). But not sure where to go from there, especially once their relatives start protesting "hey I'm pretty sure our kids aint rebels".

>>
>>48263648
>get caught in with the ANH plotline
Don't directly insert them, per se.
Take the old "Tales From ..." approach, where their story, crosses with the heroes' story for just a moment. You don't necessarily need to go all out and use background characters from the crowd scenes (which the Tales From ... books always did), but it's that same idea of a big galaxy.
There's plenty of precedent for it, even outside the Tales From ... books, too.
For example, the lone surviving Y-Wing at Yavin? That was Keyan Farlander, the player character of X-Wing.

I thought Dark Empire 2 and Empire's End were made after Tales of the Jedi in the hopes of reignighting people's interest in Dark Empire by fsing it with a more popular series.

Not ALWAYS, the broader ones like Tales From the New Republic, Tales From the Empire etc used mostly new stories taken from the old WEG Adventure Journals.

That's pretty much the idea. It seemed like a waste to not put stuff in those upgrade slots. Also, it reminds me of the old Heroes only mode in Battlefront II. Hence, some alcohol and some John Williams will make the match up epic.

F-16s are single seaters. The real problem is trying to cover 6000 miles without refueling when your range is only half that (even with drop tanks).

Or maybe that was Iron Eagle 2.

/co/'s Star Wars general is basically 100% full of Disney apologists. They will LITERALLY take up anything Disney shoves up their ass, despite The Force Awakens being the worst Star Wars movie and the latest book (Life Debt) featuring 'zhe' and 'zher'. Honestly the only good thing about Life Debt is that it says the Empire was against gays because of some Family Values program and it encouraged breeding. Basically Sheev wanted eugenics which led to the First Order.

Throwaway lines about a Grand General on Malastare, about the NR having new ships and striking everywhere, about it running down 5 SSDs, capturing 3. The meat grinder that means the Empire loses 75% of its ISDs. I'd like to have seen at least some of that first hand.
>>
>>48275046

Btw I'm okay with the Empire showing it's evil with its callousness towards its own, the mad dogs and heart of darkness types, and the well managed genocides. The "they give Sinjir sour looks because he likes man on man stuff" level of evil doesn't register on anyone's give-a-shit-dar
>>
>>48275046
>about the NR having new ships and striking everywhere
>5 fucking SSDs
>capturing fucking 3
This is Vinson-Walsh levels of craziness. The Endor fleet was supposed to be the Rebellion going "all in." Was there any explanation for how the NR managed to capture, man, supply, and pay off that many shipyards? How long after Endor was all this? How did the Empire's massive numerical and industrial advantage not put a stop to all this? What was the Imperial navy doing while the Rebs presumably captured shipyards left and right? I mean, this sort of explains the NR being horribly broke well into the 30s ABY, but it only brings up so many more questions.
>>
>>48275159
You won't get any answers or details that make any sense, because not a single bit of thinking went into this.
Nucanon is beyond salvage at this point
>>
>>48275159

No explanations, we can only go looking around other sources to begin inferring things. It seems a lot of people are signing up, that they're well led, that they have better tactics, that they're taking Imperial war material and using it to make their own ships (the Starhawks). The NR being victorious on all fronts I can believe. Tell me Ackbar and Madine are doing it, give me a few Mon Cala cruisers take on. A Blade Squadron sink the Bismarck/SSD Arbitrator story and I'll buy it.

The Empire being compromised I can buy too. Other sources show they can't build quickly enough, they can't train people up quickly enough. But Rax is a retard. His just trust me plan is to withhold support to everyone else, not fight, feed the NR info as the Operator so they're even more effective... and you know we'll be pure afterwards. Trust me.

She was good at flying because everyone in Star Wars who knows how to turn off caps lock on a computer is an amazing pilot. Nevermind the fact she grew up on a dead world gutting starships and had a speeder bike thingy and probably spoke with a few pilots or something. She was obsessed with tech and crap.

As for Han Solo, Harrison wanted Han to die since ESB and he finally got his wish and it was in a way that rose the stakes and shit and that's what he wanted lol.

As for avengers quips who gives a poo
>>
>>48275389

I think assumptions about the Empire being competent or capable or not corrupt might add to the confusion. It's just in a constant and never-ending state of growth. And the growth is just in appetite for resources.

The effective standard and quality of its recruits is shit outside of a few established academies. Once you're out there you are disposable and there's always someone up the chain to order you to your death. It seems to discriminate against you if you're from an ex-Separatist world despite being human or being brought up as Imperial. No one cares about you or your ideas unless you have court patronage that allows you to undercut or usurp your superiors and their positions. If you do have patronage though the first priority is to keep it, expand that influence backing you, perma self-interest mode. Or be lucky and don't die or make enemies with anyone more politically savvy than you. Court's job is to feed on itself constantly and see who's left behind. Doctrine is don't think or innovate- just put as many dead bodies/TIEs/ISDs on top of the enemy, blame traitors within ranks if this doesn't work and kill them separately, then ask for more bodies/TIEs/ISDs to try again. ISB and loyalty officers will actually enforce all shit ideas and punish common sense. Someone on your staff might sell you out if they're promised your job.

Idea of industry is just set quotas for people to fill, kill them when they can't- to motivate survivors. Enslave people so they'll work faster, slaves work faster right? Lol why are people rebelling?!

Pretty sure the megacorps are being backed by the Empire and not the other way around. They love the Empire because they get money, spice, hookers... and their job is blame not working quickly enough on subcontractors or that they're too big for the Empire to nationalize.

Arguably. The only mistake she did was releasing the Rathtars, and even that turned out in her favor
>Masters like 4-5 Force powers
Without anyone ever telling her how
>Everybody likes her instantly
Han fucking Solo liked her and he was supposed to be a grumpy old man who hates whiny teenagers. Leia fucking hugs HER instead of Chewie after Han dies
>Beats the bad guy the first time she wields a lightsaber
Said bad guy is nicknamed the Jedi Killer because he's supposedly a prodigy at lightsaber fighting. This one bothered me the most because an untrained teenage girl beat him. That makes Luke's Jedi order a bunch of pansies for losing to this guy. Also, the next confrontation between Kylo Ren and Rey is going to have no tension at all since we know she is way stronger than he is. Compare with Luke's first fight with Vader. Vader was toying with him, using only one hand to wield his saber and Luke lost the fight hard, even losing his hand. So when Luke confronted Vader in VI, shit was tense, and the victory was more satisfying for it.

She's a Mary Sue and a poorly written character. I liked TFA, but she had major flaws.
Hell, I still like Rey and she has potential to improve. I might also be the only guy on here who thinks Ridley is a good actress.

Eh, to be fair, the Empire wants to breed -loyalist- humans. Think Nazi eugenics programs. I think it makes -some- sense but it should be a COMPNOR only thing.

See the thing I liked about Legends Empire is that since it's a galaxy-spanning organisation its also a very varied organisation. You have your Core Worlds nobility that have the 'Human's Burden' of civilizing the rest of the Galaxy, you have your hardline fascists in COMPNOR that want to enforce an 'Imperial Nation' from top-bottom and you have your standard run of the mill military guns that only want to keep order in a chaotic Galaxy.

Instead in Nu-Canon we're presented with a cardboard cutout South American dictatorship that falls in a few short months despite it somehow holding the Galaxy in its command for decades.
>>
>>48275994
>The effective standard and quality of its recruits is shit outside of a few established academies.
The few times that the Rebels engage Imperials in stand-up warfare, the Imps kick their asses (Tantive IV, Hoth, Endor until Chewie hijacked the AT-ST). At Yavin, Vader and Black Squadron were outnumbered and still would have won had Han not changed his mind. Given the amount of important Rebel personnel present in these situations, it can be safely assumed that the Rebel grunts weren't all back-world yokels. Some of the guys at Yavin were clearly or heavily implied to be veterans, too. It takes competence to beat Rebels like that.

Even if we assume that the average Imperial Army grunt is less effective than the average Rebel grunt, the Imps still have a mind-boggling advantage in manpower, logistics, firepower, and access to intel. It has a head-start in just about every facet of warfare. Incompetence or not, the Empire should logically still be able to win a conventional war through sheer attrition and combined-arms capability. The average stormtrooper is never far from CAS, arty, armor, or a medic. Mass conscription, BDZ capability, and a lack of scruples would likely give the Empire decent COIN capabilities.

>megacorps
I'd say it's a mutualistic stakeholder relationship. The Empire likely holds a large share in its megacorp allies, and some members of the government probably hold executive positions. The megacorps benefit from cheap labor. Plus, the Empire's fall would be bad news for Kuat/Sienar/Blastech/etc. financials and stock prices.

Incompetence isn't enough to really, plausibly explain the sheer scale and speed of the nucanon Empire's defeat unless we get info about immense mass desertions which somehow leave heavy industrial infrastructure totally intact. An Imperial Civil War, at the very least, provides a more plausible way for the Rebellion to not get dogpiled by every Star Destroyer in the Outer Rim right after Endor.
>>
>>48275321
From what I get, Rax is what a COMPNOR type would be in the Legends Empire. He doesn't give a shit about Coruscant, the Core Worlds, he doesn't care where the future Empire will be based, but he doesn't want a Galactic Empire, he wants a Purist Empire.

The Avenger quips are because it's Disney, and they know certain segments of the audience enjoy them from the aformentioned movies.

As for Rei/y, I think they're just upset she's the main character rather than Finn, or Poe, or some other male character. ANH, TPM, TFA, all three movies involve a starving peasant on a desert planet with a natural gift for working with ships, having ties to 'big, mysterious things beyond your comprehension'. They not only overcome a great threat to the galaxy, but recognize the power within themselves in the process. Hell, 'zero to hero' is one of the most popular character backgrounds in Star Wars in general. It's the same character archetype under a new coat of paint, they're just mad that it isn't their color. And unlike last time, this one is 90% less angsty and has tits.

I never got the Avenger Quips argument. Avengers was a good movie, second one not so much... But it had more to do with Whedon's style of trying to give every character screen time. In TFA, I don't notice it at all.

>I think they're just upset she's the main character rather than Finn, or Poe, or some other male character
Mara, Leia, Tionne, Jaina, Lara Notsil, Shaak Ti, Aayla Secura, and numerous other Star Wars girls got to star in Star Wars works and remain fondly remembered. The Jedi Exile, Revan, and Jaden Korr could be made female at chargen, and all three are loved by oldfags. This general has seen several posters complain about Revan and Jaden being canonically male. Hell, if the genders of ANH had been switched in 1977, everyone would probably have fallen in love with Hana Solo and Lucina Skywalker. It isn't about gender and never was.
>>
>>48276784

People also tend to forget ANH is full of witty retorts and one-liners. And then some stuff now is also unintentionally funny because the dialogue in that movie has aged.

>Hell, if the genders of ANH had been switched in 1977, everyone would probably have fallen in love with Hana Solo and Lucina Skywalker. It isn't about gender and never was.

You have no idea how Hollywood works... Especially for new franchises, deep in the 1970s. Even now Hollywood is full of gender bullshit. Studio execs actually tried to push the idea of making gender-swapping Katniss as a dude for the first Hunger Games movie, simply because they thought it would attract more young male audience. And this idea was proposed by a woman, no less.
>>
>>48277171

Who said anything about Hollywood execs? I'm talking about anons.
>>
>>48277083
But one liners and quips have been a staple of movies forever. I didn't notice any stand out parts in TFA where they had a lot of quips, except for the (Star Wars signature) starfighter chatter.
>>
>>48277189
And Ghostbusters would like to argue that down for you. Despite getting good reviews (so far), and even having Bill Murray and Dan Akroid making cameos, anons are still buttfrustrated about it being genderswapped. And that has no continuity bible to hold onto, like Star Wars does now.

>Anons don't really give a fuck about Rei's gender
>You have no idea how Hollywood works

Rei is frustrating because she's the weakest character in the new trilogy by a country mile.

She had to put in less work than fucking Anakin did in Episode 1. Her entire arc in the first movie was awful (and so was Anakin's, but at least he had that badass podracing scene to make up for it).
>>
>>48277227
>liking the podrace scene

Seriously? What the fuck is wrong with you? It's 15mins of "why the fuck is this in the movie!?" Anakin is made all the worse in the last part where he blunderfucks an N1 into the croissant mothership, randomly pushes buttons until torpedoes, and the plot-stues his way back home with no problem!

I'll take Rey's abandonment issues, falcon flying, and force prodigy over that any fucking day!
>>
>>48277223
>making cameos
A cameo is hardly comparable to an actual role. It's like arguing that Patrick Stewart was the star of The Elder Scrolls IV, or that every Marvel movie is actually about Stan Lee's misadventures.

>Ghostbusters genderswap
There are multiple reasons for the complaints, but I haven't watched the film or seen enough discussion about it to argue much in its case or analyze the arguments in detail. From what I've seen, some argue that it was a shallow attempt at pandering. Some argue that the female actors aren't funny enough to live up to their roles, and that better actresses could have been selected.
>>
>>48277356
Well it did a couple of things for anakin:
1- the podracing and droid building established that he was good at piloting and mechanics
2- establishes a relationship with r2d2
3- most important to the droid ship, he had help. I think its reasonable to assume r2d2 helped quite a bit, if only due to r2s own self-preservation instincts.

Thats not exactly too hard to believe when compared to Rey "ive demonstrated no pilot ability other than driving a beat to shit gator". At least in dialogue they acknowledge that anakin was already a good podracer.

>You kidding me? /co/ are probably the biggest Disney lovers, jerking it to anything they make. From Rogue One to Rebels.

And that surprises you? Right now most of the new material being released, and we're talking sheer bulk with a fairly common return rate, has been comics and cartoons. Things that happen to be right up their alley, but even then it's not like everything has been universally accepted. Just ask about the Leia comic, or Chewbacca. Certainly there is no consensus on the books. There's a lot of hate for Tarkin, or just complaints it's boring, but some people absolutely love it. Some people are vocal in their love of Lost Stars, others call it Twilight Wars.

Not even sure why you're surprised. There's a lot of crossover between the populations of /tg/ and /co/'s, including our Star Wars threads. There's just some different focus. /tg/ is more accepting of Legends because why not? /co/ is more focused on the new material being released, which gives them a focus on the new canon where interjecting Legends examples won't help unless it's done within the canon.

Overall Disney, despite assertions the Mickey is trying to shove his big black inkpen down people's throats, seems content to let Lucasfilm handle it's own matters. They just slap their logo on everything and let that sweet sweet Star Wars dosh fill their money bins so they can swim around in it.

They threads are just different, and not even all that different. If you regularly spend time in both sometimes you can forget which is which with surprising ease.

Thatms a strawman argument on cameos, and separate from the actual point. If the new Ghostbusters was really the childhood-raping abomination that the manchildren of the internet say it is, then Murray and Akroid wouldn't be doing cameos in it. Harold Ramos would probably even be in it, if he was still around.

And of those, how many are known by people that just watch the movies? The only female characters the vast majority of 'regular' fans are familiar with are Padme and Leia, who are both royal pin-ups that tag along with the main characters and occasionally accomplish something themselves.

Keep in mind that while we are aware of the many female characters within the Star Wars universe, we are greatly outnumbered by those that 'grew up with the movie', and may have played Battlefront or watched a few episodes of Clone Wars at some point.

Pod Racing is just Star Wars Ben Hur, unapologetically so.

Rey appears to suffer from JJ leaving some of the important details to the background material. They should have included a little bit of her in the flight simulator she salvaged. Could have given us a brief space battle between classic X-Wings and TIE Fighters, which would mean at least ONE space battle. But I guess Space Battles are boring, right Dice?

At least there's a suggestion in the movie of paralleling Anakin in the Podrace with Rey flying the Falcon for the first time, when they both pull a vertical maneuver. Anakin slams down his controls and uses it to overtake Sebulba. Rey uses the angle to allow Finn his shot with his turret locked in position and then she slams the controls home again at the victory.

The movie is a bit of a mess for their first major inclusion in all new canon territory. Like how the New Republic is best buds with the Resistance based on Hux's speech, the reaction to the Resistance worrying they no longer have the NR fleets, and even the opening text crawl. Background material? The New Republic barely helps them, barely tolerates them, and would rather just ignore the First Order.
>>
>>48277718
And better yet, the three elements of Luke aren't even condensed into one character in TFA, they're split into 3.

>Finn: Complains, acts as support to other characters
>Poe: Ace pilot, 'idol' character

>2- establishes a relationship with r2d2

Who should have never been in Phantom Menace. Hell C3-P0 is a fucking stretch as well. They could have eventually shown up, but their appearance in Ep 1 makes for huge continuity issues with the original trilogy. Why doesn't Vader ever recognize them? Why the fuck is indifferent to the one he built himself? Why the hell does Obi-Wan say he's never owned a droid, while having no clue who the hell R2 and C3P0 are, when R2 tagged along with his apprentice for 3 movies?

>3- most important to the droid ship, he had help. I think its reasonable to assume r2d2 helped quite a bit, if only due to r2s own self-preservation instincts.

R2 is a rolling plot device through all of the movies, anyways. He should have jettisoned 9-year old boy-wonder Anakin in the middle of the space battle, flown the N1 right into the mothership, make donuts while launchhing torpedoes into the core, and blasted off to glass Tantooine, all with a raised middle finger towards the canon.
>>
>>48277744
I thought it was prety blatant that the Mew Republic secretly backs the Resistance, but can't actually openly support them or go after the First Order. The Resistance's X-Wings are all hand-me-downs from the NR.

To be fair, both 3PO and R2 are generic commercially produced droid models. 3PO is just really chromed up.

My understanding was the Resistance is personally funded by Leia, being an influential senator, and several other allies. The rest of the New Republic thinks she was just trying to start shit, as they're already complacent as hell because the Empire isn't real anymore, really.

Played a few games with the vets pack. 2 ion Tie/D predator glaives and a fleet officer mk.II engine bomber. These guys are killing it. In the 4 games, I only lost one glaive due to a k-turn bump, and I still wiped the floor. There's just so much internal synergy, and it's crazy efficient. The only thing I'm going to be doing is swapping out a glaive for countess ryad. I'm not happy about the PS drop, especially since my meta sees ps8+9 as very high rarities. But I think she's worth a shot.

I have a small tourney coming up, which is structured as a hangar bay system. You show up with 2 different lists (as long as they aren't copy + paste, it should be good. I think my lists for the bill), and your opponent chooses which list you are flying against them with. Choices are written before hand and revealed at the same time.

Here are my 2 lists; which would you choose to fly against? What critiques do you have for the lists? (Especially list 2):

Scimitar squadron pilot - bomber
TIE mk.II
TIE shuttle
Fleet officer

Countess Ryad - defender

>Who should have never been in Phantom Menace. Hell C3-P0 is a fucking stretch as well. They could have eventually shown up, but their appearance in Ep 1 makes for huge continuity issues with the original trilogy.
No it doesn't? And they appear because Lucas wanted them in every movie, and intended them to be kind of "telling" the story.

>Why doesn't Vader ever recognize them?
Who says he doesn't? In any case, astromechs are a dime a dozen, and C-3PO isn't the only protocol droid of his kind, there's no reason he would need to assume they're the same droids.

>Why the fuck is indifferent to the one he built himself?
Because he's Darth fucking Vader, not Anakin Skywalker.

>Why the hell does Obi-Wan say he's never owned a droid,
Because he never owned one. His astromechs during the Clone Wars were owned by the Republic

>while having no clue who the hell R2 and C3P0 are, when R2 tagged along with his apprentice for 3 movies?

Where does he imply that he doesn't know R2 or 3PO? He never implies that he knows or doesn't know them.

Between those two lists, I like the first better. But it is lacking in PS a bit. Still, the Countess is a slippery bitch. I tried her with the D, but I like her more with the x7 rack and either PtL and Engine Upgrade (yes, it's a crazy build), or Mk2 and PtL, or Juke and Stealth. I can see Predator working for her, though.

The new novel Bloodline set things up. Some people found it very boring and it's Leia focused, which might not be everyone's cup of blue milk (clinking optional). Rian Johnson had some input on the politics.

Basically it takes place before the First Order is revealed but the NR is politically split between Centrists, who won't a strong central government and military buildup, and tend to have senators who remember the Empire a bit too fondly, and the Populists who favor letting individual planets handle their own affairs and military concerns and uniting only for the common good while keeping out of each other's private business. Leia is a firm Populist but thinks the entire New Republic is broken. Mon Mothma got people to work together through sheer grit and charisma, but without someone of her qualities no one wants to work together and nothing gets done but arguing. They haven't even managed to live up to their promises to secure the borders and protect worlds from criminal scum.

A lot of shit happens, too much to go into. The big thing is that Leia's true father is revealed to the galaxy, and when they learn she's Vader's daughter she suddenly has very few friends and resigns from the Senate. She feels even if she could keep her job she's now politically powerless because she can't get people to work with her. She doesn't learn about the First Order but is aware of dark shit going down. The FO has both sympathizers and even agents in the NR among the Centrists. There was a plan to have Centrist worlds secede from the NR and join the FO, but this didn't happen by the end of the book. She forms the Resistance because she feels the NR is failing the galaxy and needs people to step up and protect the little people. She also knows there is something out there banding together military groups and criminals alike.
>>
>>48278146
Leia doesn't have much personal support in the NR left but her cause has some. Still even after the FO is revealed the NR would rather ignore it, thinking they are too small time and to out of the way to bother with, based on the material in the TFA visual dictionary. Leia sent a representative to plead for aid. She's the black woman seen on Hosnian Prime looking terrified before the place is Starkillered.

That's why they get mostly hand-me-downs and some small aid. I THINK the Resistance is hoping that they can stem the tide of FO aggression, or at least blunt it as best they can, until the NR gets it's act together and realizes there is a threat, and then mobilizes to help them. It's clear in the movie they don't think they're a direct match.
>>
>>48277993

In a way Bail Organa did. He made a private recording meant for Leia to explain about her real parents and brother. The recording was kept on a planet and sealed under a royal protection by one of his friends. Leia was supposed to get that royal position in due time, but she doesn't care about royal titles so she gave it to a Centrist asshole who was obsessed with royal titles. Leia thought she was being clever because the ceremonial adoption of the title would keep the woman on that world for some time. Unfortunately when the woman gained access to the royal vault she found the recording.

She isn't the one who played it, though. She had one of Leia's allies, a Centrist Leia initially hated and was forced to work with but who became friends, play it. The guy is a bit of a paradox. He's an Imperial fanboy, owning a lot of their helmets and crap, but loves the idea of the Empire, not who ran it. Vader pretty much enslaved his worlds and starved his parents to death making them work on vital components to the Death Star so when he learns who Leia's real dad is he flips out and reveals it to the galaxy in a recorded senate session. Shit goes bad from there on. Her friends in the Rebel Alliance stand with her. Ackbar obviously joins her later with the Resistance and Mon Mothma, who is otherwise dying of space cancer, tells Leia privately that she always suspected the truth of Leia's parentage but never cared because she trusted Leia.

he galaxy at large didn't care that Bail's message was that she was hidden from Vader to protect her and that he and her adopted mother will always love and have faith in her. Basically it confirms she was raised right by a man the galaxy respects, but people couldn't see that past her being Vader's daughter.

The worst thing from Leia's perspective is Ben didn't know he was Vader's grandson. She and Han were waiting for the right time to tell him, though she has no idea how you find the right time to start THAT conversation. Now he'll find out the hard way with the rest of the galaxy. She can't talk to him though because he and Luke are off doing Jedi shit and though she tries to message them she never gets any replies.

Some other fun stuff... Some senators express doubts about Luke, too, since them being siblings WAS revealed to the galaxy after Endor. They don't like the idea that Vader's two kids has once powerful senator and one guy leading a new Jedi Order and fear that they could either go bad - or always had been and it was a really slow, complicated plan to eventually seize power for themselves. Stupid, but there you go.

Leia gets some insights and warnings through the Force but she otherwise doesn't have conscious access to it. She leaves that world to Luke.

The Hutt Clans are greatly diminished, having lost most of their power and prestige. They know Leia killed Jabba and it pisses them off, but they don't want it common knowledge because it makes them look weak. There are a few recordings of her snuffing Jabba and one crime boss who hates the Hutts has a personal copy he gives to Leia as a present for being the "Hutt Slayer". This isn't revealed to the public.

Han also isn't smuggling again. Instead he's running a shipping company that does extreme racing on the side. A lot of the New Republic fighter pilots idolize her because of her Rebellion days and her husband is a legend among people with a need for speed (and presumably spice). Snap, the fat bearded pilot from TFA has a cameo. When Leia forms the Resistance a lot of the these pilots jump straight over with her.
>>
>>48279190
The galaxy also doesn't care when she points out she's as much Padme Amidala's daughter as she is Vader's.

>>48279537
Also it's revealed the Emperor was very careful with Vader's identity and never let any physical, i.e. biological, evidence of him exist. Any biosample might reveal he was really Anakin Skywalker, but more than that he was afraid someone might try to clone him.

This is mentioned from Leia's perspective so she's just extrapolating.

They should have kept that for TFA. His own organization staffed with speed freaks and ex-smugglers (and some not so ex) who run an above the board operation but also secretly help supply Leia's Resistance. He could have supported her while still traveling with Chewie looking for the Falcon and formed the backbone of her logistics and secret supply corps independent of NR generosity.

There are a lot of reasons for why old faces might make cameos, one of which is money. Whether or not it rapes one's childhood memories isn't always a factor for actors. Peter Cullen had a major role in Bayformers and those films still sucked. Nimoy showed up in Abrams Trek but those films remain polarizing. The presence or approval of the original cast does not necessarily refute arguments regarding quality or the new cast, nor does it refute arguments regarding its faithfulness to the source material.

>>48277718
The point is that most of the complaints about her have nothing to do with her gender. People have complained about traits that would make her a bad character regardless of sex. Legendsfags complain that she is a poor successor to the girls that came before, and the "casual" viewers that complain about her also focus on flaws in her writing.

Luke, at least, spent all of ANH being carried by his allies. He's weak in the Force until the very end, he's a whiner, and he's in way over his head. Han, Leia, and Obi-Wan do most of the planning and heavy lifting early on. He gets one kill at Yavin and only took down the Death Star because Wedge, Biggs, and Han were around to babysit him. Then we see him grow up, fuck up, and learn from his mistakes over the next two films.

Rey? From what we've seen, she has few flaws to speak of. She seems to have already completed her training and development in one film. She can already brute-force her way past Kylo Ren (admittedly injured and distracted by conversion attempts). If she can't fail, then she's boring. There's very little dramatic tension or potential for future development over the trilogy.

This too.

Okay, she's good with mechanics... but how does she know how to fly a space freighter like an ace? ANH had the throwaway line about the T-16 and whomp rats, which gave a serviceable explanation for why Luke was a skilled pilot. That's just one example of the failures in TFA's script and, by extension, Rey's character.
