Reposting because it involves robooty and is difficult for people like me who aren't well versed in it.

Basically I'm going to be getting my hands on an obscure garage kit soon, a Dimension Diver/Daibadi Aphrodite A color resin type. A few other dudes are also interested in having one, but this seems so rare that the one I happened to snag seems to be the last one that could generally be found easily at all.

Basically, what I and those guys would like to do is find a means to recast the models' parts so that everyone can get the model rather than there being just the one. If anyone knows of a service or group that could help, or if you're up for it (hopefully without destroying the base model!), please do help out. Are you taking casting commissions, or do you know someone who does? If so, multiple people may be interested.

The model is articulated and uses separately purchased joints, if that's important.

You will need to post some pictures of the parts, depending on how it assembles, it might not be recastable. If it builds like a gundam you should be in the clear. Also, check the previous thread, an anon dropped the pdf for recasting

I saw it, I wanted to post thanks for all of the support last thread, but I also forgot that like I had initially forgotten to mention the model was articulated.

It does seem to mostly be large parts. I thought peg holes would be the main problem. More hollow parts could also offer a challenge.

lucked into a snazzy vostroyan firstborn army. Brain storming what sort of color scheme they should get, as the 'canon' red and bronze is much too similar to my skitarii.

Any ideas?

No one needs to give you permission. This comment should have just had your den and then you should have been posting your WIP in WIP already because that is the entire point, not TELLING us about it.
>>
>>48254424
Seconded. That's what I'm planning on doing for mine. Purple looks alright too.

>>48254362
Awesome. Those are some of the best models in 40k.
I've seen 'em done in a drab sort of green and brown, but the classic red and bronze/gold is, well, classic for a reason.
Blue and silver looks great, and though I've never tried it, I think a black + steel scheme could look pretty good.

>>

>>48253839

I like everything up to the red daemon on his shoulder.
Maybe its the choice of color, but it just feels out of place.
>>
>>48254762

Those models actually look pretty good in plastic. I always presumed they where mono-posed metal with a horrible paintjob. Glad you proved me wrong!
>>
>>48255257

The base is from the Autarch with Fusion gun that has been taken out of production. If your lucky, you can get one on eBay. The sword is your typical Eldar sword kit-bashed with a blade from the Empire Bright Wizard. Helm and pistol is from another kit. Flags are from Prince Yriel.
Hope this helps.

Have had this unit "almost done" on the shelves for a good 2 months now. I was just lazy I guess. Anyways, here they are in a somewhat finished state. Since the picture I have put some varnish on them and will give the bases some tufts and also, will do some glowy runes on the head.

I think it goes deeper, here's the auction picture for the same sculpt. The only difference from the conversion is that he greenstuffed the slate into a fulll sized rock and changed the sword from a chainsword to a power sword. The pose is also very slightly different to that of the old fusion gun autarch.
>>
>>48255261
you dont like the colour, or the nurgling in general?
for the colour, i wanted him to stand out from my blightkings so i gave him a paler white and red look, like he had more of some kind of blood disease then the traditional green.

if it's the nurgling, i run a nurgling-heavy force so most of my other units have one or two fucking around on them

>>
>>48255390

Yes, will be playing them with the new Warcaster Agathea, think it will be a descent enough combination.
I had the old 35p limited ed box set lying around, and haven't actually touched anything in it until now.
>>
>>48255370

Well, a bit of both. He just seems out of character. The color doesn't help with this, and I feel that for a detail that´s supposed to draw the viewers attention, he is not as well painted as the rest of the miniature. If you insist on doing a red little guy on the shoulder, you need to make him stand out in terms of shades and highlights a bit more. a pair of glowy eyes would help, and NOT using a green tongue.

I want to paint my Leviathan dreadnought to match mostly match this guy's color. I don't want to do the Balthasar gold/Earthshade I usually do for brass because that comes out very dark and real brass is bright and yellowish. What would be a good way to get a more accurate brass color?.
What would be a good way to match that darker tone that covers the body's plating?

And don't be a dick and blame the "old mobile cam" or that the light was of, and that your granny just died and you got fresh tears on the lens. Anything below Parkinson's disease isn't acceptable as an excuse with pictures like these.
Is it to much to ask that you place a regular sheet of blank paper as a backdrop, place the miniature firmly on the table, and just take a second to actually get focus with your camera!
Stop harassing us with bad photos and you might actually get critique on the miniature.

>>48256108
>Okay, so while sounding like a turboscrub, can someone explain to me this whole Johnny business?
>I want to be spoonfed

Look at the attached image. This was an advertisement for First Edition beekees that appeared in White Dwarf 99. They're (mostly) named after the cast members of the old Adam West Batman TV serial: Brother (Adam) West, Brother (Burt) Ward, Brother (Burgess) Meredith, Captain (Julie) Newmar ... and Brother (Yvonne) Craig.

In the Blue 1990 Citadel Catalogue, they all get boring names (Bolter #10, Plasma Gun #2, Meltagun, etc.) and part numbers... except poor Brother Craig, who was absent that day. He's just a name on a flier, and doesn't really show up again anywhere. As >>48256308 intimated, that can make him pretty hard to track down.

Now, fast forward to a year or so ago. Some clevva lad grabbed a photo of Brother Craig (specifically, the one in the upper left of the OP, the "original" Johnny), and made a meme picture with him where it looks like he's having a conversation with his bolter's magazine - the same way the character Jonny 2x4 walks around talking to Plank on the TV show Ed Edd, and Eddy.

My first Seeker out of 35, so fast is the name of the game

I've tried a bright wash for the black scales (grey) so the scales would brighten a little and be different from the black belt.

How is it?
Maybe try a wash of the same colour as the skin, so it looks like you can see the skin under the scales and would make a better transition for places like the scales on the legs?

Other suggestions? Not all have scales, so I want something I can easily and quickly do on every seekers from now on.

This lad (>>48265350) knows what's up.

You say you've *never* painted miniatures before? Take a look at some of the stuff in the OP, especially the Citadel painting guides; much of the Space Marine books will cover topics germaine to your interests, as will the How to Paint Citadel Miniatures book from 2012. Even if you don't always agree with some of the paint choices or methods (I don't), they cover a lot of important basics that you will hear experienced painters talk about using, and might really benefit you.

Additionally, WIP's patron saint Duncan Moore (pic related) dispenses valuable advice on Warhammer TV.

Cut them down, or add extensions to change the barrel length.

Swap the muzzle brakes around. Like putting the Eradicator muzzle brake on a long, narrower barrel.

Slice a piece of plastic tubing so it can wrap around an existing part of the barrel, making it thicker.

Put a bunch of spiky teef around the end of a barrel. Or spikes going along the barrel.

Heat up the barrel end and bend it outwards, blunderbuss style, with a knife. Or make it look like a long gun barrel burst, and they're still using the shortened, ragged part of it.

Make a big piston looking thing above or below the barrel, resembling a hydraulic recoil system.

Put the open crosshairs from a shoota on the end of the gun barrel.

Without knowing the lore of your army:

Where do you want to focus? Use the most saturated/colorful paint there. You can also use contrast (light against dark, saturated against desaturated) to draw the eye.

A black and blue highlighted armor would compliment a fiery red sword nicely. What tertiary color did you use? A metallic? The sigil on his chest would frame a dark blue face well, even more so if the eye lenses reflected that red blade.

One thing - I'd remove the large cork chunk in front of his left foot. It breaks up the silhouette.

Maybe, maybe ... but his is going to be the older, softer alloy with more lead in it = not Citadel's "White Metal". Plus, with the exception of Brother Meredith there, I already have one or more of all the figures in this lot.

I just thought a really desperate anon (say, >>48268306, for example) could get his hands on a Johnny and a few other characterful Rogue Trader models if he could afford the capital outlay. This is the only Johnny I've come across in the last couple of days that wasn't snatched up pretty quick.

If your outgoing expenses are greater than your gross income, you die. So they need to mark up in order to over all their overheads.
>>
>>48271844
This is standard. But if you're charging that much to sculpt models for a company and retards are actually paying you for it then the company deserves to go broke, not pass their shitty mismanaged overheads onto the consumer. I still havent heard a single good reason why a 5-man Terminator squad costs more now in plastic than it did in metal. And no, more weapon options and useless bits and pieces does not a fair price make.

>>
>>48271916

The smaller the company, the higher the proportion of their expenditure one-off costs like sculpting will eat up. GW is a different kettle of fish - by far and away the largest part of their spend is on running stores, that's the main thing you're paying for when you buy from them.
>>
>>48269968

The prices you poorfags want your models to cost is not a viable business model. There's a reason miniatures cost so much. Even non-GW ones cost $10 per miniature. So good luck trying to get $1 a miniature or less. You guys have no idea what things are actually worth or how little $1 actually buys.

Poorfags can't into economy. They don't understand that manufacturing costs are the smallest slice of the pie in just about any business there is.

The headgear needs better contrast, imo.
Other than that, job's a good 'un.

Thirding.

Nothing says Grimdark Mobile Artillery quite like iron sights. Tbqhf, I also put scopes on all my Grimdark Shotguns so, YMMV.

Guys, is there an easy way to fill gaps in models?

I've tried greenstuff, but that shit is sticky as fuck even after leaving it for 30mins

I've tried liquid greenstuff but that shit just shrinks down to 10% original size once dry so you have to literally do 10 layers.

This is so time consuming, it doesnt feel right...

Green stuff can take up to 24 hours to settle. It and comparable substances like milliput are the best way to fill/hide gaps. Just put that mini aside and work on something else, give it a couple of hours and enjoy your filled gap. Liquid greenstuff is really only usable on small gaps or scratches, because of said shrinking issue. It has its uses, but compared to actual green stuff it's rather limited.

Analytical isopropyl alcohol is 100%, but it'll start attracting water as soon as you open the bottle, so it won't be for long. Thankfully the air in most labs is very dry.

Well that was a waste of money.

How the hell do I use green stuff then... I'm trying to think of something of a similar consistency. Its sticky, like when you pull a sticker off something and it leaves that horrible sticky mess, this is how my greenstuff feels.

I'm using the default ratio of blue to yellow - should I change it?
