The only difference between a spell and an ability re: stack presence and interactions is that the latter isn't represented by a card. Think of it as exiling a copy of a spell - it leaves the stack and then poofs into nonexistence.

No, but by the time you cast this card the ability is on the stack and so gets countered. The trigger isn't stopped, because it already happened, but the effect it generates is countered as part of this spell's resolution unless, for some reason, you wait for that effect to resolve before casting this.

Okay I think I grasp it now. if you played a counter spell against Ulamog or Kozilek, are you removing them as spells from the stack and preventing them from resolving, entering the battlefield and becoming permanents.
However the on-cast triggers of their abilities would still resolve as those trigger resolutions are independent from the permanent spell resolutions.

You exile the creatures as part of the ability. If you exile the ability, the creatures never go into exile.

Activating an ability puts an "ability" object onto the stack.
The stack resolves that object by resolving the abilities effect.
Ability objects can only exist on the stack, but like other objects can be moved around.
Exiling an ability object is like exiling a token object, it'll move into exile then be removed altogether when state based actions are checked.

Because I've been testing and trying to make Zombies work for a while now. I've gone through lot of different iterations and basically the deck is actually resilient and can survive spot removal well. Can even recover back from board wipes slowly thanks to Relentless Dead as long as you have mana out. Often the case has been what do you play early on that buys you time to setup an overwhelming force however the deck is not superfast and tries to play a "fair" grinding game. Unless I go into Green for getting into Delirium/Gitrog/Groundkeeper then Wailing Ghoul doesn't always provide me the absolute best value in the list at 2cmc. It is so far the only list i've found where Epiphany at the Drownyard is straight up perfect in there.

There's shit that allows you to play things directly from your hand or library into play.
This would counter such abilities, but whatever you are putting into play doesn't get revealed until the ability has already resolved. So either your opponent potentially wastes this on a nothing ability or your big and scary thing hits the field.

I believe this was the last version I was testing with before I shelved it away until EMN. So far the one thing I definitely want to try is the new pseudo Remand/Boomerang from EMN into the list. Possibly Gisa and Geralf as a way to easily cast stuff out of the graveyard.
So I was looking at old Daily MTG stuff and I stumbled on this:

Yugioh fusion mechanics always rely on 2 (or more) cards fusing up into a THIRD card that generally goes in the Extra deck, or in special cases in the main deck.
In yugioh you never ever take cards off their sleves, and XYZs come from the Extra Deck and are a different card.
Probably the first big tcg to implement something like this was Pokemon with the Legend Mechanics, but the cards only had one side making them not playable until you drew the other.

Actually if there was some prevalent B mana dorks Zombie tribal would work in Modern. Believe me i've tried to make it with with a combination of Aether Vials and CoCo and the deck is just a tad too slow. It's fucking hilarious though when your 2/2 Zombies suddenly become 6/6 because of a few Vial activations and CoCo hits.
All standard really needs for Zombies to be relatively viable is a Lord that's cmc 3 or less and a reliable strong one drop Zombie.
