Ludevic confirmed for best person on all of Innistrad.
Is there anything he cannot or will not make?
>>48045334
>Is there anything he cannot or will not make?
I'm not really sure.

No no no no. I loved that card so much. I am so sad. This is worse than Brisela. It is just a little girl!
>>48045369
Something really simple and "boring" like a hammer.
>>48045334
Flavor text
>I never asked for this
>>48045427
What does Emrakul even want with a stuffed bear, anyway?
>>48045487
That Eldrazi is the girl.
>>48045369
And yet we'll never get a badass Ludevic Planeswalker.
>>48045487
i thought it was showing the girl was mutated by emrakul in a way to help her retrieve the bear
>>48045518
>>48045529
Ah, I missed that implication. I feel dumb now.
>>48045427
Really enjoying this spoiler season so far. It's odd that the Eldrazi feature so heavily but still manage to be more interesting here than on the Plane they were introduced with. Maybe it's because Innistrad really lets them explore the body horror.
>>48045446
>I never asked for this
Ri rever rasked ror ris.
>>48045518
The flavor text is saying Emrakul's desires are being willed into her brood.
So either Big Emma wants the bear or the girl Eldrazi is just still holding the bear.
Either way, I'm still gonna draw Eldrazi making a big pile stuffed animals for Emakul.
>>48045369
He hasn't made THAT much. Here's a tally of what he's made so far:
>some skaabs (Scrapskin Drake, Seagraf Skaab, Makeshift Mauler, the flying horse-thing from Grounded)
>Godzilla (Ludevic's Abomination)
>a robot (Narstad Scrapper)
>A robot with a wolf's head (this guy)
But my favorite has got to be pic related. It's nothing special, but the flavor text makes it.
>>48045334
Does the drawback imply that Ludevic was out of ideas when he made robopup?
>>48045427
Little girls are expendable. I am really afraid that harm will come to that mutant kitten, though.
>>48045334
>Wolf construct
>Some random creature in power armor
>Fucking Geralf and Ludevic hijinks
>Red Donate
We Urza Saga now!
>>48045628
It just means he had a dream of making something that only works when someone's out of ideas.
>>48045602
Necro-Alchemists, no sense of right or wrong.
>>48045571
If this is Scoob, which cards are the rest of the gang on Innistrad
>>48045662
Remember during Avacyn Restored when Ludevic was having such a hard time that he had to resort to doing things that were technically not illegal? Guy's been on a journey.
>>48045602
He also apparently turned a human's skeleton into dust. I don't know why.
>>48045777
To see if he could, duh.
>>48045693
Jace is Shaggy, Tamiyo is Velma.
I guess you could have Chandra and Gideon as Daphne and Fred.
>>48045762
he's done it, he's moved into the realm of robotics.
>>48045777
>A mad scientist did something incredible

That's why you're not a scientist anon.
>>48045796

It does draw a card, so that's some knowledge right there. After all, that card could be the next great idea.

I really hope WotC continues the trend of making D&D5 supplements for Magic settings. Ever since they released the Zendikar packet, I've been hoping for an Innistrad supplement. That desire has only grown now.

Are you ready kids?
>>48045829
>Ludevic goes on to attract the Phyrexians for the sole purpose of capturing and experimenting on them

You can bet your behind the madman will succeed too.

He had his own story article, come on wizards don't let me down.
>>48045823
hmm...
>>48045952
what's that pic from?
>>48045858
But all they released for Zendikar was playable races. The only playable race in Innistrad is humans.

While I like Innistrad, Ravenloft shares most of its themes already. I'd rather see setting books for Ravnica or Mirrodin.Or a block set in Dark Sun.
>>48046087
T1 duress. Clear up counter spell
T2 lupine
T3 wreck their hand
Unless they are packing 4+ counterspells. The chances of them drawing it are extremely slim. Even worse if you are on the play.
>>48045334
stop sperging over the lore, the kikes just shifted Murder up to uncommon

>Geralf, Gisa and Him then go in a grand transplanar adventure, causing havoc in the name of SCIENCE! wherever they go
>>48046183
3 mana unconditional removal at commonl? yeah, most limited formats really can't. Who in the ever loving fuck is scrambling to have murders so bad that moving it up to uncommon is Jewery on a massive scale?
>>48046184
Now THAT'S a weatherlight I'd love to take part in.

I would much more like to see/read it than the current Jacetice league.
>>48046243
>"Fuck you I do what I want."

>>48046271
Delver doesn't need a ship to move between planes because it's an eldrazi now.
>>48046271
Now that's just conflict of interest, anon!
>>48046280
Yes, the Gloom Patrol is going to be great.
>>48046291
Yes and?
>>48046306
Planeswalkers can planeswalk because they have a microscopic speck of the Blind Eternities in their brains. Eldrazi are made entirely out of the Blind Eternities. They stronk.
>>48046316
So why aren't planewalkers eldrazis?
>tfw we will never get eldrazi!tibalt
WE CHAOS NOW
>>48046174
I would feel like an ass for dropping my hand turn one as affinity if this was my opponents main strategy.
>>48046316
You say that like this is going to stop him from hanging out with them.
Man watching them SCIENCE across the multiverse is going to be fun.

WHO HERE READY FOR SOME DICE ROLLING
>>48046184
i want this 100 thousand times more then the shitwaffle that is the current story, holy fuck this would be amazing, hell you could have jaces faggy superfriends along for the ride once in a while to clean up the messes these assholes make.
>>48046329
what if they are?
>>48046362
Hym'rakul now. Not quite as strong since you'll rarely get Delirium on turn 2, but easily done by turn 4, or even 3 in a really tooled deck.
>>48046316
>Eldrazi are made entirely out of the Blind Eternities
Now that isn't quite it.
The Eldrazi are a species native to the Blind Eternities. They live there and not in planar space.
The "Titans" and "drones" are just basically Eldrazi hands reaching into planar space, scooping out handfuls, and gobbling them down.
>>48046360
Also from left to right the order for crazy-necromancer-headbobbing to Haddaway goes:
>Geralt
>Gisa
>Ludevic
>>48046370
Than it demonstrates that eldrazified creatures can retain their free will, intelligence and sapience.
Delver and his delvermen would totally journey with Ludevic in his crazy frankstein ship across the multiverse.
>>48046362
>your will is no longer your own
>>48046403
>"K is for Kaladesh and Kaladesh is for me."

>>48045527
>this is why Ludevic hasn't been spoiled yet

I swear to god, when is fucking blizzard gonna introduce hand disruption, also, the meta is the shittiest it has ever been and their "balancing" is a fucking joke

>>48046438
proactive hand disruption at 2 or 3 would probably make priest playable while not making zoo tier 0
>>48045334
>>48045762
I really hope the story has the natives of Innistrad defeating Emmy with SCIENCE! instead of the Jacetice league.
That would be so cool.
>>48045334
>The designs and schematics came to him in a dream
>fusing living flesh to artifice
>fusing spirits to artifice
>invented soul extractors
>experimented on both the living and the dead to create monstrosities
Guys Ludevic is a phyrexian.
>>48046499
Guess what
>>48046518
Imagine if we had New Phyrexia come to Innistrad instead of Lamerakul.
>>48046419
I can guarantee you that we'll get some more kooks from other planes like Grixis and Esper as well as members of the once-Sultai and other planes that seem appealing.
>>48046529
No, I mean I know they are there, but I want them to be thwarted, and for all the mad scientists to take over. Walkers should stick to other walkers, SCIENCE! can take care of the rest.
>>48046518
I want a side-set in a year where Phyrexia and the Eldrazi are having giant monster smackdown cagematches against each other and four of the worst planeswalkers are just dicking around throughout the process.
>>48046529
Surely WoTC will hear the backlash this is getting
>>48046560
This is what the Duel Decks should be; fanfic-tier all-star throwdowns. Ugin vs Bolas. Eldrazi vs Phyrexia. WORLDS COLLIDE
Instead we have... Nissa vs Ob Nixilis.
>>48046560
You mean a dual deck set? Maybe.
We're most likely going to get a Sorin vs Nihiri duel deck set between Innistrad and Kaladesh.
>>48046546
The Aether Revolt could be Phyrexia.
>>48046546
Imagine both came, but had conflicts of interest. Zombies/Science vs Neo-Phyrexia vs Eldrazi vs Jacetice League + Werewolfs vs Saint Taft/Thalia rebels/humans/spirits vs Vampires+Sorin in all out brawl.
>>48046562
Not that it will change anything, even if Wizard wanted. All blocks are planned and designed several months in advance
>>48046601
>The Phyrexian Negator has big ol' tiddies
This changes everything
>>48045334
>Cyborg werewolves
Radical. Might be difficult to get going, but 2 mana for a 5/5 is pretty sweet.
>>48046603
There's potential there
>plane based on artifact technology
>scientists hear of planeswalkers and other planes
>create some sort of dimensional portal
the theme of the second part of the block is REVOLT though so I'm expecting some sort of underground force to rise up or something like that.
>>48046184
Shit, I'd settle for them becoming the designated Team Rocket of the setting - more or less ridiculous, recurring villains that constantly stir shit up for the heroes to fix whenever there isn't a bigger plotline to follow and who occasionally help out a more threatening villain or help the heroes thwart one out of necessity. I want to see Geralf Snidely Whiplashing it up on Ravnica or something, only for Gisa to fuck it up for him for no raisin.
>>48046609
That would be such a huge clusterfucker, I love it.
Also, Sorin's fucking up. I have a feeling he's going to die.
>>48046619
They're venom sacs.
>>48046687
Those are some perky venom sacs.
>>48046687
Hey man you can tell yourself that if that's what gets you off.

>>48046666
>designated Team Rocket
>the ding and flash of light when they fly off into the distance isn't then actually flying off, it's them warping into their interplanar frankenship.
What would happen if ludevic tried designing a sex bot?
>>48046666
>6666
Confirmed for happening!
Actually, speaking of Ravnica... why doesn't Jace use the guilds nor their resources, being guildpact and all, when he's trying to do stuff on Zendikar and now Innistrad?
>>48046795
Pick one:
>A skaab sucks you off
>Some random screaming head inside a weird robotic abomination sucks you off
>Ghost blowjob, WOO WOO
>A wolf head inside a robot bites it off
>>48046795
You'd get a wailing monstrosity of metal and enslaved souls with fifty different hoses, tubes, fondling extremities, and penis-tipped tendrils, designed to make you cum fifteen times in ten minutes. And restrain you if necessary.
>>48046795
You didn't see the new card? It is in the OP, man.
>>48045334
>>48046316
Its not located in their brains retard, its attached to their soul. Jin gitaxis' master plan to become the lord of new phyrexia was foiled by this exact thing.
>>48046795
You get an artifact creature with Phasing, next question.
Though to be honest if you wanted Ludevic to make a ground to air missile, you could request an ornamental fountain and still get what you were after.
>>48046795
What do you think OP is?
so we can safely assume that wish girl adopts harmless kitten and they both live happily ever blgoghklghlglhglhghl. right?

>>48045572
It's noting that Innistrad is having an effect on Emrakul, and it's not just Emrakul trying to eat all of Innistrad. She's being assimilated into the plane, instead of the way Zendikar just rejected Ulamog and Kozilek, presumably because there's something about Eldrazi horrors that belong there in a certain way.
>>48046619

The eldrazi is the girl
>>48047278
Because Mythicspoilers.com is a thing.
>>48047315
Birthing Pod is repeatable without needing more copies. This is not.
It's an alternative, since it skips 2 costs ahead instead of just the one from Birthing Pod, while having the downside of being a Sorcery instead of an Artifact.

But I'm lazy.
>>48047405
pod was sorcery speed too, turn down your nostalgia vision.
>>48047423
I thought you meant what if the SoI was a trap and I gotta say I'm upset you didn't finish it that way.
>>48047437
OH shit, you're right. Well 3/4 ain't bad.
>>48047423
I wouldn't matter because Emrakul is a girl.
>>48045527
Please let the non liliana planeswalker be Ludevic please.
>>48047315
I'd say it's worse but it's legal in modern so it doesn't really matter
The ability to grab any creature under X is pretty great though. Sacc'ing a kitchen fink with this lets you get pretty much fuck every creature in your deck in Abzan company for 3 mana.
but it's not >MUH POD so obviously it's a trash tier rare that will never play ever in any format
>>48047520
Wouldn't Ludevic will be blue though, maybe BU if wizards push it.
New Tibalt card spoiler when?
>>48047405
And the upsides
>cheaper overall
>three options as compared to one
>birthing pod isn't instant speed either
Another downside

>>48047532
Ludevic is definitely black and blue.
>>48047582
He's only been on one black card. Every other is monoblue.
>>48047532
What if he's more of a red artificer? Slap on some black to represent amorality and madness, finally a RB character that isn't all "FITE ME FGT I'LL SUCK YOUR DICK LOL"
>>48047520
No. Bunnygirl or bust.
>>48047557
Three options?

Because Ludvic has always been established using blue cards.
>>48047603
Tamiyo hasn't changed since her original appearance.

Oops, I'm retarded. It's less than or equal to X + 2. Much more flexible.
>>48047625
I know it doesn't make sense from all the cards and people he's involved with, but come on, a self taught mad genius who does what he wants has got to be a bit red
>>48047644
>implying she won't get a card after being instramental in the story of SoI
>>48047644
Different cards of the same person aren't because they've changed, it's just the same person at different points in time
Like, Niv-Mizzet probably didn't change that much between OG Ravnica and Return
>>48047557
Okay, so maybe it's closer to a lateral movement? Slightly more options at the cost of a card?
The more I think about a lot of cards in this set, the more I really like most of them.
>>48045334
Here's an idea for a deck.
>4 Simian Spirit Guide
>4 Burning-Tree Emissary
>4 Nest Invader
>4 Priest of Urabrask
>4 Lupine Prototype
>4 Myr Superion
>2-3 Geosurge
>2-3 Avaricious Dragon
The objective is to dump your entire hand onto the field ASAP and just alpha strike with everything, using Avaricious Dragon to refill your hand back up.
>>48047711
In some scenarios, mainly EDH, it's more useful to have a low CMC tech creature instead of a big dumb creature. This thing is a combo machine, honestly it needs the exile clause. Otherwise it'd be really easy to loop.
>>48047315
Neither, and stop abusing strictly better/worse like that.
>>48047567
However, EDH has Birthing Pod, Natural Order, and Yisan. It works as an extra copy if you need one, though.
>>48047677
Jace didn't get a card after being instrumental to the story of BfZ.
>>48047783
He got a card in SoI, though, where he was arguably a bigger part of the story.
>>48047734
Just stick it in a Dredge/Zombie Infestation deck.

If I wanted to play Dredge/Zombie Infestation then I'd play Dredge/Zombie Infestation.
>>48047644
That's not how it works. Also, she's clearly been through a shitload.
>>48047779
Can't have too many creature tutors.
>>48047783
That's because he'd just gotten two cards and was about to get another in SOI.
>>48047845
If we are getting a blue Planeswalker I prefer Ludevic to Tamiyo.
>>48047133
Oh... Oh shit. Dat throwback
>>48045334
>giant wolf robot that can tank a lightning bolt
This is Metal as fuck
>>48047879
What gives you asny indication Ludevic is a planeswalker? With the amount of dangerous shit that;s happening on Innistrad noq and the shit going on in the original Innisatrad block, there was enough shit to ignite 30 sparks. Ludevic hasn't he's survived some of Innistrad's most traumatic events. I think it's fairly unlikely he'd be a planeswalker.
>>48047970
>dozens of people and a few assorted monsters have rocketed across the multiverse
Sounds like Innistrad pulled the total planeswalker count a little higher after Garruk savaged his way through them.
>>48047970
At this point, he won't even need to become a Planeswalker in order to achieve the same level of powers planeswalkers wield, all he needs to do is fine alternative scientific means.
>>48045334
Hehe. Wolfenstein.
>>48047779
>stop abusing strictly better/worse like that
Fuck you faggot
>>48047970
He may well not have personally be in harm's way at any point until recently, just from pure luck. Or hell, considering how not very sane he seems to be, the various things he's encountered may well have just not been traumatic enough to trigger it until Emrakul showed up. Or perhaps he was a planeswalker already and happens to like Innistrad, and just decided to pack his bags and get out while the going's good, now that Emrakul's in town. Lots of possible reasons.
Nissa lived on Zendikar, another plane where literally everything is trying to kill you constantly, and it wasn't until her vision of the Eldrazi that she ignited. But knowing Wizards, he's going to either be dead or an Eldrazi Horror

Probably thinking something along the lines of "man, Emrakul sucks at making servants, I could do so much better."
>>48048241
Gisa looks like snake people might just be her fetish. Or maybe killing them is.
In fact, if I were Emrakul I would be very fucking worried about trying to suck up Innistrad after what happened to Kozilek and Ulamog when they got chained down to Zendikar. If there is a plane that could eat an Eldrazi whole and survive, it's the black-hearted death plane.

It's less mutated than most things were in Shadows, nevermind what we're seeing in Moon. It's probably one of the least mutated things around other than Named Characters (who have plot armor and thus are mutation proof, unless of course they're doomed to be mutated in which case they get all the mutation)
What if, Gisa and Geralf both end up having their sparks awaken?
>>48049217
I didn't notice that his other hand was bitten, or the back leg. But I did notice the tail.
>>48049234
Nah, then it would just be a weirdo giving someone a cat. I would have liked a vestigial tentacle or a third eye instead of the snake tail. The snake stuff seems weird, and it's in Gisa and Geralf, too.

>desires simply align to her will
The implications are

It never implies emrakul's will is changing at all, or that her subjects have an impact on her will- it's the other way around.
>>48049777
Kamigawa was such a rad set flavor-wise
>>48049835

Kamigawa and Lorwyn bombed because Kamigawa tanked the power level of its cards in a panic after Mirrodin and Ravnica, and Lorwyn followed Time Spiral, a set that alienated many new players even if it's beloved in retrospect, and Lorwyn itself also had its share of problems in practice because all the tribal interactions caused a lot of headaches regarding complex board states.
SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT WEEABU KAMIGAWA AND EUROSHIT LORWYNI love those places and given rtr, bfz and innistrad, if we go back they ruin the places for me by making them shit flavor, and mechanics
>>48050028
sort of. The kami only stopped fucking everyone up because the humans realized they had stolen something important to them, and then used that stolen item to create a super kami that brought balance back to everything. If anything it was a tie, that everyone knows the Kami would have won eventually.

No. But rtr was a shit story pushing jace to be the posterboy, gatecrash was a disaster. Bfz set had broken stuff which they knew about but made anyways just to make it modern appealing, as well it's jacetice league is a hot pile of trash. Innistrad is a welcomed mess of pushing both eldrazi and soon jacetice league.
This are shit because they are shit. They sold a lot but that doesn't male them good quality. I hope they never go back to kamigawa or lorwyn because then they'll push the old mechanics in dumbed down low power ways
>>48050263
I dread a return to Lorwyn. Magic Origins showed that they probably wouldn't keep the old style if Boggart Brute was any indication, and I'm sure they'd find some way to make it all about Nissa tying up loose ends and Chandra finding her inner flame with Cinders or Jace investigating the secret of changelings or whatever until Phyrexia shows up to stamp on everything interesting. Then we'll get Gideon to make an inspiring speech, have them kill all the invaders, and wave farewell to the wasteland behind them as they make another friendship speech.
No thank you.
>>48050263
I honestly wish people would stop complaining about Jace.
Innistrad is also awesome.

I just get a bit sick of seeing him over and over with how bland he usually is. Theros and Tarkir was a nice break from him, though I feel like they're just making up for lost time now. If they want him in, at least make him every other set.
And just to be clear, I don't really hate Jace. It just feels like he gets really boring when they use him too much, and he takes away space that could be used for other Blue-walkers.
>>48050158
Lord Konda had stolen a child from the supreme kami, using his daughter's birth and some magical mojo jojo to do it.
Anyways, kami begin totally destroying humanity over the process of a couple decades, while Konda's daughter grows up.
Eventually, She realizes what was going on, and with some help, frees the supreme kami's child, who takes on her form. They merge into a spirit/human hybrid, and kill the supreme kami, and punish konda. Now they maintain the barrier between human and spirit worlds, because they are the god of the barrier.
>>48050380
I thought him being the Living Guildpact was dumb specifically because I felt he wasn't pushed enough.
Although now I feel it's dumb because he's off saving Zendikar and for like no reason on Innistrad and YOU HAVE A JOB TO DO.
Why *is* he on Innistrad in the first place?
>>48050414
Like I said, I don't really feel like he's been the most pushed character at all. He's not even that bad a character from what I can tell.
More blue walkers would be nice, though. I'd like a set where ALL the Walkers are new faces. Although admittedly there are already too many Planeswalkers we'll never see again.
>>48050387
If we ever go back to kamigawa, it will have an aesthetic similar to Duel Masters.
>>48050455
>They merge into a spirit/human hybrid, and kill the supreme kami, and punish konda.
Did this thing get a card?
>>48050456
>>48050414
Simple solution: replace jace with tamiyo in the story.
Of course, they're going to kill tamiyo off this set to make the Jacetice league seem powerful when they ultimately defeat emrakul.
>>48050456
He's not bad exactly, more that there's only so much I can watch of him being clever and solving puzzles before I'd want to watch something else.
A set full of fresh walkers would be nice, although really all they need to do for that is dip into the massive pool of planeswalkers we already have and just throw them somewhere new.
>>48050485
Nope.
>>48050486
Exactly. Jace is superfluous in this story. Tamiyo already had the mystery solved. At best she just needed a bit more nudging to try and fix things, but it's things like that which tick me off about jace.
>>48050485
No. Demon Hidetsugu didn't get a card either(he killed the god of oni and took its power, then turned the kami of the crescent moon into shredded paper).
>>48050456
I would make a set were a band of evil second rate planeswalkers fuck up a plane for shit and mana, using local politics to fuck over everyone. Until the natives get their shits together and kick their tyrannic asses.
Maybe it could calm down the "fuck planeswalkers" crowd for a time.
>>48048241
Are they gonna make it? Are they gonna be OK?
>>48050528
Yawgmoth was basically some nobody that did some politics and random shit and became arguably one of the strongest villains in mtg history without being a planeswalker

>Except that the mystery of what Tamiyo found was sort of important
Would the story have changed in any meaningful way if we were instead following Tamiyo as she was investigating it the first time around?
>>48050669
Yes.
For one thing, "I found this mysterious journal and the mystery is driving me nuts" is very Lovecraftian.
"I need to figure out what this other person figured out" isn't exactly an unheard of storytelling trope.
>>48050683
Yeah, but usually it doesn't result in the person who figured out first being totally fine and in control, and the second person just uselessly dragging on them.
I missed most stuff of BfZ block. The only thing I know is Newlamog and Newzilek are fried.
How fucked is Zendikar? Is the entire world dust already or is there still places with vegetation? Are eldrazis still roaming?
>>48050807
A lot of it is fucked, but it's regrowing itself via Zendikar Bullshit and there's a decent bit left.
Since old walkers could create artificial planes from mana (?) could planeswalker now "dissolve" a plane back to mana?
I think that'd make a cool Nicol bolas story arc
>>48050683
Would the story have changed meaningfully if it was tamiyo investigating a journal?
>>48050849
Planeswalkers are nowhere near that powerful as that anymore.
>>48049473
Gisa and Geralf are both non walker characters, same with the whole Weatherlight crew, everyone in the storyline of Lorwyn...can't tell if you're trolling or just stupid.
>>48050889
Gisa and Geralf are meme characters and not important.
>>48050414
Fun fact: Since Planeswalkers debuted, he's had cards in four non-core sets, and been in four blocks storywise (with those each being different)
Cardwise, he was in Lorwyn (where it was just His Card, like the other four), Worldwake, Return to Ravnica, and now Shadows, while storywise he's only been part of the Zendikar, Return to Ravnica, Battle for Zendikar, and Shadows of Innistrad blocks.
The actual problem is that he was in every fucking core set, frequently with a new iteration, on top of those appearances, so he seemed to show up more than he actually did - and hell, despite being broken as hell, the bane of standard, and eventually banned, he did very little in original Zendikar, only having a bit part plotwise.

>>48050889
>>48050894
The Weatherlight doesn't really count. That was years ago, before the current way of doing things. Gisa and Geralf also aren't "protagonists". The main characters of this arc are Jace, Tamiyo, Liliana, Nahiri, and Sorin. Everyone else is a side character. Interesting to follow, but not the focus.
>>48050901
He, Chandra, and Lili are the only of the original five still around, and Chandra hasn't gotten a good card and Lili is someone everyone likes, too. Jace is more pushed by haters than Wizards, even when he has been around the most.
>>48050924
Weren't Glissa and Slobad going to become walkers, just the memnarch fucked them or something?

1 for 4 ain't terrible but it's hardly good batting there familypai.
>>48050936
Is right.
Thalia, Gisa, Geralf, etc - these characters are bit characters who are not at all important.
>>48050936
What did jace add to the story? Because as I see it, he took away from it. Tamiyo was refreshing and more interesting than Jace, because she hasn't be used as much. Giving her more screen time this block would have been the better choice.
>>48050912
The Mending was basically a multiversal physics rewrite. No amount of hiding in demiplanes or other fuckery is getting around it, it's How The Spark Works Now
>>48050924
Those were before the current way of doing things. Why does no one understand that? It's like pointing to Urza's Saga and arguing that something should be in-colour.
>>48050957
>No real weight
It's honestly pretty important that our hero became a villain.
I also wouldn't say these people are "bit characters", but they're definitely C-plot, with two groups of planeswalkers being A and B plot.
>>48050964
Jace added to the story by being out viewpoint character and protagonist. It would have been a very different story if we followed Tamiyo directly. Hell, Liliana wouldn't have been in it, for one.
>>48050957
Glissa was one of the main targets Memnarch had and their doing had tremendous impact on how Mirrodin turned out.
Drana and Tazri also played important roles in Zendikar's story, especially Drana. She was basically the only original native, not counting Nissa, who seriously contributed to things, even more so than fucking Kiora.
> ravenman unmentioned in cards and lilis story
I was really hoping he was our hidden antagonist, orchestrating everything just to get people to crack open the moon
>>48051005
You're going to have to clarify your argument m8, because right now what you're arguing is that the reason jace being a view point character and protagonist added to the story was because it let jace be a viewpoint character and protagonist.
There are only 3 explanations for that line of thinking:
You learned english as a second language, you are having trouble expressing your thinking.
You're retarded.
You work for the MTG story department.
>>48051051
He's merely her sub-consciousness.
>>48047315
You don't seem to understand what strictly better or strictly worse means.
>>48051056
No, I'm saying that asking for someone who's basically just a random person to be our viewpoint character is dumb.
Here's my line of thinking for why you think those are the only three explanations:
You're an idiot who thinks that there are only three explanations, because you're unable to cope with complexities that aren't even that complex.
>>48051062
>>48051051
I've seen one fan theory that he was Yawgmoth.
>>48051180
Tamiyo isn't a random person though. She's been shown before, and fleshing out her character with an extensive PoV adds more than not doing anything (again) with jace's character because he's supposed to be a blank slate.
>>48051180
There are theories that Raven Man is either Urza or Yawgmoth. Either way, the reveal is going to somehow be disappointing.
>>48045334
Ah, so much fuel for my madness deck.
>>48051215
She showed up basically on a card and did nothing. She's now getting fleshed out. Jace isn't even a blank fucking slate, come on, man, call a doctor about your hateboner if it lasts for more than four sets.
>>48051216
I think that Raven Man isan ultimately unimportant backstory character like all the other ones.

>>48047523

I think the problem anon is that Jace has lasted more than 4 sets, to the exclusion of developing other, interesting characters with personality.
>>48050912
Now that would have made for an interesting plot. If Nahiri had been an untainted Godwalker from her stay in the vault, it could have finally tied the storyline back to Bolas, since what he wants is to get back to pre-Mending Godwalker mode. It could even have culminated in his plan being to steal the Spark from her or something.

Yes. But lorwyn came out in 2007
In the time that it took chandra to get her story block, every other member of the lorwyn 5 had their story, had a secondary story featureing them, and in the case of two walkers, got the replaced by other walkers who also had their story block and a block with them as an auxillary character

Exactly why people have a problem when he shows up so much, because he NEVER does anything. He always shows up, acts smug, things get resolved without much of his help, and he continues being a blank, boring, stand-in.
Which is only more frustrating when they had a perfect reason to use him less (being the living guildpact), and yet they seem to be ramping up his inclusion even more. Even if it isn't needed, because evidently if Jace isn't there everyone will forget what game this is.
>>48052197
I don't even mind the constant use of Jace. The Jacetice League is where I draw the line. What's the point of continually introducing new walkers if they only ever show up once and do nothing?
Does anyone care about Tibalt? Domri Rade? Ashiok? Why did they even bother introducing new characters if we're always going to return to the Gategoons?
>>48052310
Plenty of people have been asking where Tibalt is this block, and I've seen quite a few curious about just what Ashiok is doing, since they seem like a possible villain. I personally have a soft spot for Domri Rade and would love to see him expanded upon or have a big adventure.
I would have been okay with the Gatewatch if it had been mostly for the Zendikar block. Them as a concept is fine, but they shouldn't constantly being going everywhere together.
Have one or two show up in a set. Have some sets where none show up. We didn't need a block of Jace investigating to find out shit is fucked, only to call all his friends once he confirms it.
>>48052310
I forgot Domri Rade even existed, but damn I was hoping to see Tibalt in SOI. I mean we got devil tribe going and the piece of shit is nowhere to be seen. Fuck Wizards.

A group of mirran rebels storms a Phyrexian laboratory containing a number of powerful artifacts including a prototype planar portal and... Mirrari!
Dumb luck causes the mirrans and Mirrari get pulled through the exploding portal into a random plane... Innistrad!
Through planar shenanigans, the Mirrari transforms upon arrival into... Memnarch!
Memnarch ends up becoming bros with Ludevic and the terrible two. Now Ludevic has a source of Phyrexian technology to experiment with, and Memnarch has a new base of operations. Together, they mirror Urza's saga and start preparing to invade Phyrexia.

>What's the point of continually introducing new walkers if they only ever show up once and do nothing?
To expand the setting and make it feel like it exists beyond whoever got a card in the core set? Like, you're arguing about something that existed before the Gatewatch. If we *only* got to see the same planeswalkers over and over, it would be more boring. The only way to do that would be to literally only focus on the Gatewatch and a few others. Planeswalkers we only see once make the big expansive Multiverse feel alive and diverse. Making it so the only time someone shows up, they're going to be a recurring character would only make the stories worse and the setting feel smaller.
It's a setting that's all about journeying to different worlds. Sure, we follow a few characters around, and now they've got reason to band together and defend the Multiverse officially, but this is a road trip game. Half the fun is about seeing new people. Not all of them need to be super involved. Yeah, we should really see what Karn and Koth are up to, but we don't really need to see more of Tibalt or Domri or Ashiok or anyone else who was really just a strange new face on this multiplanar action series.
>>48052197
He doesn't act smug, actually. Flavor Text Jace and Story Jace are completely different entities - the former is Ertai Mk II, the latter is a giant nerd who can't not let go of his cloak and is hopelessly addicted to solving puzzles and mysteries and similar (which is how he got involved in RtR, BfZ, AND SoI)

>>48052763
>2 blocks
>>48052651
Yeah but can't we also open up new opportunities for different planeswalkers to, y'know, do their own thing? Like what would happen if Gatewatch didn't get involved. Would the planeswalkers on Innistrad try to handle it themselves? How would that turn out? How would other circumstances turn out for other planeswalkers? This'll probably disappear after the whole eldrazi thing, but if it continues it will continue to be a bit of an issue just because oh look we're with the same character, who may grow from this or may not, but we know what their personality is going to be like and more than likely how they're gonna react to the situation. We can have one off planeswalkers but people like different planeswalkers, we'll eventually get to certain ones via planes but if we stick to the same ones all the time things will get pretty boring as every plane ending threat will require the Gatewatch, instead of say other connections.
>>48052708
Except that this shit happened before the Gatewatch existed. That's just the nature of the plot structure. Most of the Planeswalkers were always going to be one block characters. Those characters are not getting pushed aside because of the "Jacetice League" you hate so much, they were just never going to be central figures in the larger story.
>>48052751
They still want viewpoint characters. It's a road trip, not an anthology. Only three planes have been revisited (and two of them were obviously set up to be revisited from the start; they wanted to do New Phyrexia since the original Mirrodin). Since Lorwyn, we've had:
Zendikar→Mirrodin→Innistrad→Ravnica→Theros→Tarkir→Zendikar→Innistrad
The only "new modern" planes we've been back to have been Zendikar and Innistrad.
>>48052763
You're wrong, but also this is a direct sequel to Battle For Zendikar.
Also, adding to everyone else, I'd count Nahiri as a new character. Fanservice side stuff doesn't count.

I don't mind recurring characters, you misunderstand. As someone who hates Jace, I liked the way he was included in SOI as a clue-solver. I just hate the way Jacetice League is set up and every block so far featuring them has not been a block that I enjoyed storywise with their inclusion.. Which is Origins, BfZ, and Oath.
>>48052864
I think when he's saying 6-7 planes, he's including stuff like Origins and M15.
Also, it's not just you having weirdness with Captcha.
>>48052908
Every block so far has been two blocks. Origins only featured their... origins.
Which I guess is sort of "proof" that Liliana will join up.
>>48052854
"Wouldn't the story be better if we didn't have our main characters?"
It would be a different story. Maybe one that you like more, but not the one they want to tell. The Planeswalkers on Innistrad other than the Gatewatch are:
>Nahiri
>Sorin
>Arlinn
>Tamiyo
>Liliana
One of them is touched by an Elder Thing and pissed, one of them is pissed, and both of them are going to war.
One of them is out of her depth and already trying her best to save her people (spoiler: They're fucked)
One of them is out of her depth
One of them is going to kill Emrakul and be the Gatewatch's Batman member
>>48052967

>>48053067
>>48052992
Tamiyo isn't out of her depth with the nukes she's carrying. She just doesn't want to use them without a really good reason.
>>48052992
I completely understand that they're going through with this and pushing it. They made that decision back in Origins. I'm just saying it seems iffy if it's really going to be every block we're gonna focus on the main character of the 5 with supporting characters. It's fine but it's going to get old quick.
Also, out of their depth? I'm pretty sure everyone is out of their depth against the Eldrazi. Oldwalkers definitely have more of a handle on it because of experience but the fact that the main cast pulled it off was a miracle. We can see the results of failure or other possibilities.
>>48053017
He's not murderous, but are you really going to argue that the man who could probably solve poverty (and crime) in his city using his wealth, but decides to dress up in a bat costume and beat people into comas (which due to the American health care system creates more poverty and desperation) isn't a sociopath?
Also, I meant that Batman isn't technically a member of the Justice League but works with it anyway.
>>48053063
Let me rephrase:
You want the story to not focus on any recurring main characters. That's not going to happen.
>>48053086
What nukes? I actually don't really know her involvement in the story so far, other than Jace finding her journal.
>>48053125
It's been two blocks. Three if you really want to count Origins. I doubt it's going to ALWAYS be these five character's story and nothing else. There are still plotlines to tie up with Bolas and Tezzeret and Karn and Koth and so on. Did Ugin even ever do anything? I forget why Sarkhan was after him.
>Also, out of their depth? I'm pretty sure everyone is out of their depth against the Eldrazi.
All the more reason to call the Gatewatch. It was a miracle, sure, but everyone acting like it was some asspull aren't really giving them much credit. The plan was good and it worked, and the oldwalkers fucked up and had to shove the Eldrazi in a closet in the first place because Ugin was a big fat liar.
>>48053191
>I actually don't really know her involvement in the story so far, other than Jace finding her journal.
Oh, Jace meets up with her later. She cures his madness for him, tells him to go home so she doesn't have to do it again, saves his life from an Avacyn, and has a bunch of iron-banded scrolls for spells that are too dangerous for her to use.
She generally seems far better equipped to deal with these threats, and has a far better grasp on this whole investigation thing. Also, every time she used a spell, she had a little story to go with it.
It was really different, interesting, and just made me wonder why the hell we hadn't been following her investigating all of this stuff instead of watching Jace bumble into everything.
>>48053254
Because Origins.
>>48053254
Because Jace still has to be the protagonist. Tamiyo wouldn't be as interesting if we followed her from the start.
Also, in Emrakul Rises, wasn't he still hearing her voice? He even closed his eyes and listened to it to answer Tamiyo's question. Why's she immune to this stuff?
>>48053274
Hence my complaint. That they just randomly decided these people are the main characters now, and that they can't have a block without any of them.
Nevermind if Sorin is well established by now and could have this block to himself with the 'minor' planeswalkers supporting. Gotta have Jace & Friends or it ain't MAGIC
>>48053294
>Because Jace still has to be the protagonist
Why? What God wills that Jace specifically HAS TO always be a protagonist? He's not even the original face of MtG.
>>48053294
>Because Jace still has to be the protagonist.
No! He doesn't! Stop pretending like he does.
>Tamiyo wouldn't be as interesting if we followed her from the start.
Why not? Would following someone who knows more about the situation, has some background knowledge on the subject, and generally knows what they're doing be uninteresting? Does someone have to walk around and random reading a book to be interesting?
>Also, in Emrakul Rises, wasn't he still hearing her voice?
Beats me. I stopped reading by that point out of frustration with all the tedium.
>>48053300
>That they just randomly decided these people are the main characters now
Except that three of them have been main characters for a while now.
Sorin is honestly barely doing anything in this block. He barely did anything last time we were on Innistrad either. He just wanders around clueless and angry.
>>48053337
>>48053341
No, he's the current face. Whether you like it or not, he's popular. People like him. You can argue that it's just their 10 to 15 year old demographic, but that's beside the point even if it were true. The story structure they want to use needs recurring protagonists, whether you like them or not.
>Would following someone who knows more about the situation, has some background knowledge on the subject, and generally knows what they're doing be uninteresting?
Uh... yes? People who know what they're doing and how to handle the situation they're in aren't interesting viewpoint characters. That's why we focused on Jace and Sorin as protagonists instead of the other walkers.
>>48053472
>Sorin is honestly barely doing anything in this block. He barely did anything last time we were on Innistrad either. He just wanders around clueless and angry.
Sounds like an issue with the writing department, and sounds like instead of trying to awkwardly write Jace into the story they should instead focus on developing Sorin properly.
