Tak, from Invader Zim, is really hard to get a read on. She's passed up multiple opportunities to go home with her knowledge and utterly rule the Irken Empire for a significant chunk of eternity. Few jumpers are foolish enough to jump into WH40K without getting a big chunk of power somewhere else first.
With out-of-jump powers the whole thing wouldn't actually be all that difficult, and he apparently wanted people to earn the Light of Terra instead of just curbstomping everything and flying away in their shiny new supership.
You'll notice that breaking the deadlight actually ends up with your ship being significantly worse than if you picked one of the other factions with deadlight intact, probably because it's "easymode", no matter how shitty dealing with years of the deadlight-broken path would be for anyone not a saint.
At least that's my interpretation.
