Earlier, Necromantic teams fielded skeletons but werewolves kept gnawing on their bones and running away with them so they gave up.
Flesh golems were made because a necromancer couldn't find proper mummies. So he made a cheaper alternative.

"What Did I Just Watch" Game of the week.
I covered a few of Coach Veyrr's game last season and, lets be honest, he did not have a break out inaugural season. So bad was his first go that LGB(TQ?) was regulated to the rookies for a second season. Can he turn it around in his second season? It starts here against newcomer IC and his high Class Orcs!
Wew, it is hard to recap this game without a bullet point presentation of the innumerable questionable decision on both sides of the pitch. Starting with Veyrr offering his injured Saurii up for the slaughter on the LoS, all the way to the Orcy Gentleman saying, "no! you can have the first hit."
The first half started with the Orcs splitting their team and caging up far in their own back field, the lack of concentrated strength allowed the lizards to roll rampant over their foes and a failed P. tail dodge handed the ball back to the lizards. Which gave coach Veyrr the room and time to complete his teams first ever Saurus TD. Congrats Charles, you deserve that MVP.
The second half opens with both teams setting up for offense and the crowd showing it's displeasure by braining BO Silverteef with a rock. A few easy hits later; a new, more confident Veyrr sends his ball carrying skink on a breakaway run into Orc territory. A few Orcy dodges later and Skink Keith is only lightly marked. All it would take would be an easy dodge out and a quick stroll to the end zone for LGB to be up another point. Instead Veyrr take pity on the polite orcs and pushes them into better positions and over the next 3 turns stubbornly refuses to attempt the dodge instead suffering turnover after turnover on questionable blocks. When the ball is inevitably lost, the last few turns morph into a comedy of errors that I'd recommend only beings with a strong constitution review.

Chumps of War(LawlessJustice) vs Walking Talking Fighting Walls(Pizzapocalypse) (0-2)
LawlessJustice and Pizzapocalypse, two old hat coaches that have shelved their main teams for the season and brought in some fresh blood. How did they do?
I won't beat around the dwarf, this game was a unmitigated and complete disaster for the traditionally stunty coach LawlessJustice. Starting with the worst possible first game match up, cascaded into several near pitch clears. LJ, coach of the goblin representing Underworld team, was ill prepared for the sheer squishyness of snotlings and lost 3 before his second turn. He made a heroic effort to loosen the ball from dwarven hands but by turn 7 only had his 4 Ogres left on the field.
The second half started with the Chumps undermanned but not beat. The Ogres started their own grinding cage down the pitch until turn 4 when
disaster struck. Nimrod Bonepart was nearly killed by Troll/Ogre Slayer Green Monster. With a quarter if their remaining strength removed from the field, it marked the end of the hopes of Ogres.
Stawhat Jackson the ogre was injured in the last turns of the game by the crowd in revenge for tearing down the Berlin Wall. Both teams it seems will be playing under staffed for their next game.
Dwarves grind it out, Troll Slayers Win. 0-2
Cheesecake Chargers(McBobson) vs Cowardly Chickens(Ukrim) 2-2
"First Game of the rookies where both players scored."
New school coaches pitted against each other. What do these coaches bring to the league in terms of skills and personality? More than nothing, less than memes.
BLITZ!!!! Ukrims's humans gets a blitz off on McBobobson's amazons and squander the opportunity to pressure the ball in any meaningful way. The Zons for their part, avoid Ogre Door Holder(White Knight?) like the plague, allowing him and Blitzer Frightful Frank an easy blitz on the ball carrier. Frank proves to be scared of balls and fails the pick up on the now freed ball. The zons secure the ball in the least secure cage possible and lose Blitzer Strawberry to a failed dodge. Door Holder, ever the gentalogre, offers to let the entire cage assist against his blitz and the resulting hit predictably fails. One tipped fedora, and a handoff later and the ball is freed from mounting pressure and is kind of secured in a "cage" in the middle of the field, but not really. The Chickens take this time to beat up the women not it a kind of cage like formation and fail even that. Allowing the zons to move their half cage-thing down the field. Chickens again fail to break it again and the Zon finish up their drive by making an actual defensive formation at the end zone, and with mounting pressure, zons give into their own fear and score turn 6, allowing humans three turns to respond. A quick running cage later, and then a bewildering need to press their bodies up against each zon player on turn 8 leaves the game tied 1-1.

The second half is a whirlwind of "Why?!" As the blocks don't matter and the Cowardly Chickens can't stomach the thought of delaying, scoring in 3 quick turns. The zons in return split the team and break down both sidelines offering up juicy surf targets and keeping the ball safe by not progressing it. Ever the gentlemen, Coach Ukrim declines to pressure the ball and then when he attempts to screen the entire field the zons cluster, toss the ball into a cage in the human mid field almost not giving themselves enough room to score. Coach Ukrim appears to register this fact, but squanders his men with "marks" instead of forcing the movement issue, allowing the Cheesecake Chargers to tie it up.
No deaths, no injuries, and a human team filled with white knights "marking" players on the zon team. No one wins. 2-2

Generally the correct play is to hold off on immediately going for the ball carrier if the player is going to get surfed. When you've got a bad stall situation like that you generally need to give up on springing the ball loose in a dramatic against-the-odds play and instead force a fast score, either by
1) killing players without compromising your own
or
2) position in such a way that any surf attempt will result in a counter-surf next turn (depending on how the scrum plays out you might be able to create an opportunity to surf twice). So long as you set up the trades so that you surf a higher value guy for every one of yours that gets surfed, you will eventually come out on top which puts more pressure on the opponent to score fast.
This does however require you to think ahead several turns. One of the things that sets apart beginner/intermediate coaches from more expert coaches is they have a grasp of how positioning now will help them 2 turns or more down the line.

check the links in the OP for the link to FUMBBL - it's a Java client for playing Blood Bowl. Requires account sign-up, and your computer needs Java,but is otherwise free.
Implementation differs slightly from the Cyanide games, but is closer to the tabletop rules and has all 20+ CRP rosters, although you might have to get used to the horizontal rather than vertical pitch layout. If graphics aren't a priority it's a far better deal than BB2, which only offers 8 teams at a 50$ price point.

I played bb2, but the player base sucked. Fumbbl is better gameplay and match making. Spent a few games getting used to the UI and you're set.
/tg/, it's been a hard time lately, with back to back tournament losses in OT, but last night a ray of sunshine blazed through the gloom as my ogres made it the final of XFL Ogre X. Slaughtermaster Grakagagg led the charge with 5 cas, and Butcher got his 15th career TD to win it.
We'll be facing "big and small failures" in the final, who haven't conceded a TD in 3 games en route, but for the first time in the tourney all six of my Ogres are fit.
I'll try and let tg know when the game is scheduled in case anyone fancies seeing the action.

Two coaches, having never missed a finals, come together with new rookie teams. Crab "I'm skipping this season" Backslide with his High Elves and Jammanl with a fresh Vampire team. Can Jammanl avenge losing in the season 2 playoffs to Crab? Will Crab prove the the worst elves are still elves?
The first half of this game sees a slow failed push from Blood Drive, thanks to a failed pass on the elf turn 3. The CC, screened, fouled and marked in a competent and boring manner. Armor worked as advertised except for the tragic loss of John Carrot, elven explorer. The Elves managed to free the ball but didn't have the time to even attempt a score. Angry blocks and fouls abound, The refs appear cowed by the Corsairs.
Enraged by the lack of action, fans storm the pitch and the Blood Drive takes the brunt of the assault. This, with the near re-death of Nurse Rosamund marks the beginning of the classic Vampire implosion. IT's the vampire's drive, but with most of their Thralls down and stunned, the push to the end zone is cut short. The unskilled team being hounded by elvish blitzers and screened away from their primary food source. Sir Francis Cake, proves his worth not once but twice knocking down and the KOing the ball carrying Vamp. One quick surf later and the pitch is cleared of vampires and Jammanl's chances of stopping an elf score and win.
1 Elf death and 1 non self-imposed vampire implosion. Elfs Win 1-0
