What female miniatures has GW produced since Oldhammer times that weren't elves, ice queen, or vampire?

I'd like to see a couple females thrown into the free company.

Or, if they ever revive the Dogs of War line they could throw them in there.

If you were in charge of Warhammers fluff, and you could retcon things to improve the setting, what would you change?

>there are way more than 8 steamtanks, it's just those are the first and original tanks designed by Leo
>the bretonnian peasants aren't smelly inbreds who can't do anything They are a hardy, subservient race to the bretonnian nobles, and a parody of what the elves think of the humans.
>bretonnian ships don't use cannons, they use magic and Magicsl weaponry
>all the chaos gods, malal included, law gods and human/elf/dwarf gods are still around in the realm of chaos

>There is a growing schism in the Cult of Sigmar over Valten's divinity and Volkmar's legitimacy.
>Malekith is killed along with Tyrion and Teclis. Ulthuan faces devastation like never before. In Naggaroth, civil war is imminent.
>Grimgor sacks Cathay. The Great Bastion crumbles.

>>
>>47889325
The Lady is a god as per how divinity works in Warhammer.
Valten is alive and working in the shadows because he knows his presence is damaging to the unity of the Empire, for now.
90% tax on Bretonnian peasants is an extreme case and only put in place by tyrant lords.
The Cults of Pleasure is Slaanesh again and not the darker elven gods.
Malekith is a spoiled brat again instead of being the hero this world needs.
>>
>>47889427
>90% tax on Bretonnian peasants is an extreme case and only put in place by tyrant lords.

Alternatively, it is the official policy, but most lords "generously" choose to return much of this tax.

Glancing over the army books of 9th age it looks like the designers have a fucking vendetta against the dark elves. So many things shot up in price or just got flat out nerfed. What are the strengths of the DE now come 9th? What would a list of theirs look like?

Many things got nerfed from many different factions. Their approach to balancing seems to be to avoid things that are very good to make things easier on themselves. It seems to have worked out balance wise (or at least the perception of balance) but everything feels a little homogenized to me.

Also HE definitely got wrecked harder. I believe the consensus is that they are near the bottom. And of course they lost a ton of their signature abilities and items.

My Beasts are fluffed like this:

>live in jungles of Ind or Southlands; noone quite sure how they got there (I looked i up, there are goat-like jungle animals)
>a few hundred years back united by highly intelligent sorcerer/fighter goat-king
>conquered and enslaved all beasts and humans nearby, formed a medium-sized glorous empire with his kin until he got turned to gold by a mercenary wizard (his statue is my "bray stone")
>his realm slowly dwindled, the ruling caste made out of his hundreds of decendends got stupider with each generation without his guidance and due to inbreeding
>they still are intelligent enough some sort of state going on and to craft there own weapons and armour but their temple cities are falling apart
>they live in a caste system with uber-goats blood line in power, regular stupid gors next, then the even less intelligent ungors and lastly slaves, human or beast.
>no chaos. My beasts worship the dark forest, which may or may not be an aspect of chaos undivided. No mutations either, besides everyone being a beastman, no centigors. Regular boars and beasts instead the mutated versions. Spawns are magically animated swamp beasts.

I play them in 9th now. I was really stocked about what they did to beast men, especially them now being set apart from chaos pretty cleary, with no single reference to the chaos or dark gods in any way, shape or form. Also Path of Nature (=old lore of life) fits my beats perfectly.
>>
>>47891715
I like the way you fluff
>>
>>47891292
You have to look at the big picture. They wanted a lower power level overall and nerfed pretty much everything in every book a bit except maybe core.

I play DE, KoE, O&G and Beasts and think it's more than fine. Balance is better than ever.
>>
>>47891562
All the elves are rated as kinda shit, but until the data analysis team posts their thing (at the end of June), we shouldn't make too many conclusions.
>>
>>47891782

As long as Elves each make up 1/16th of the playerbase, the game is looking pretty balanced. It's perhaps a wakeup call to the reality of how deep the balance issues went in previous editions but everything I've seen of 9th has been good so far.

The one exception is the 0-4 Core when applied to Orcs & Goblins, because you're trying to squeeze 6 different units out of one option.

You literally aren't going to be able to play it unless that DL has all of the cards scanned and whatnot.
Otherwise I think the complaints there are mildly overstated. Yeah, things are on cards. How's that differ from just having a few columns in a book?
Beyond the fact that you can lose them all and it's terrible that way.

It was a massive shift tonally too - WFRP 1 and 2e are largely about humble beginnings leading to heroics, whereas 3e trends more Smegmar in the 'everyone's amazing' department.

The real problem is the expensive proprietary cards and dice the system is built around, which exist solely to jew the customer.

Thinking about it, the vampire teeth come from attributing their growth, along with hairs' and nails', with a corpse not being still in death but undead iIrc (while it was the rest of the body of a corpse that withering gives the illusion of growth of certain characteristics).

Considering the self-preservation processes of the priesthood of nehekara, why wouldn't their teeth look longer too?

Because for one, teeth do not grow unless you are a vampire and in that case its only two (fangs for Lahmian, Blood Dragon, and von Carstein, the top front for Strigoi and Necrarch) . The only thing they do is, if properly cared for, maintain enamel.

Tomb Kings aren't liches, they were legitimately dead and preserved like real life mummies for the purpose of storage until golden bodies could be delivered via resurrection until Nagash's spell raised them first. The only magic was in preservation, they weren't hibernating in sarcophagi.

The only reason teeth show so much on mummies is because the skin dries out and shrinks like jerky while the bones remain, but that only causes a rictus grin. But that's only for poorly preserved mummies, Egyptians in real life knew how bodies decomposed and aged if they were preserved, and took great pains to make sure that a person looked in death as they did in life as long as possible.

That's part of our fascination with them. They oftentimes look as if they could still get up and move.

Well, Halflings in Warhammer are like Tolkien Hobbits but as if heavily inbred with an extra chromosome for many. That's the Ogre side of them, like Halflings are the Little Person product of an Ogre and Empire human marrying and having kids and the Ogre dying leaving the human to raise them alone.

They rarely give enough of a fuck to do anything, and when they do its in the same way Ogres do except a bit more civilized and clever. Halfling Militias were basically the mercenary bands of the Empire when they were still a thing.

Which is basically how I would recommend to play it. Like an unusually dapper and clever Little Person Maneater who has taken on the behaviors of a Witch Hunter like other Maneaters adopt custom and dress.

WFRP 2nd edition

>Fieldwarden (Halfling-Only Career)

To outsiders the Moot looks like a safe and happy land. The extent to which that's true is due to the Fieldwardens. These Halflings patrol the borders of the Moot, keeping away threats and unwanted outsiders. They are skilled skirmishers who use their intimate knowledge of the Moot to maximum advantage. They prefer to attack from ambush, using their superior skill with missile weapons to neutralize the size advantage of their foes. Since the Moot shares a border with Sylvania, the Fieldwardens have particular expertise in dealing with the living dead. More than one band of zombies has been brought down by a fusillade of slingstones from determined Fieldwardens.

I wish the vampires weren't as silly-monsterous.

The only vampires that looked like that lore-wise and model-wise were the necrarch line.

Everyone else looked semi-human.

The chaos waste's could've been bigger.
The entire map could've been bigger desu.
It's supposed to be 7 times the size of our normal world.

Diplomacy could've been more interactive like Crusader Kings 2 style, but that's just not how total war works.

>I wish the vampires weren't as silly-monsterous.

>The only vampires that looked like that lore-wise and model-wise were the necrarch line.

>Everyone else looked semi-human.

Wrong. Warhammer Vampires basically go into a battle mode where they look horrifying.

Necrarchs and Strigoi, plus Mannfred, are the only ones who look like that 24/7.

Compare this Neferata...

Ulrika's books also basically say if you make faces it will stick that way, so fighty Vampires who never hide their trye nature look more like Nosferatu while stealthy Vampires who spend their nights at galas look more like Dracula.

Take Vlad for example. We have art where he looks like a vampire skeleton and art of him looking like a noble.
The difference is the latter is when he shed his disguise after turning most of Sylvanian nobility and started a campaign.

By End Times, he's a monster face all the time.

It also goes with why Strigoi are so fucked up looking.

good, that's a start, you we can go a long way from here:

you could even take that old roman story, apply warhammer content and make it the start, or part, of your fluff

I still haven't found a source for that, most maps I've checked have measures that would imply the world is roughly the same (even if maybe a bit bigger considering there're more lands over the seas and undergound stuff) but nothing that would indicate it being 7 times bigger even.
Assuming the measures are the same to our own in not just name.

Depending on what rule set you're using, ie for 8th ed it's probably better to increase the unit size of the state troops into 1-2 big units of 30-40 rather than 3 smaller ones of 20.
>>
>>47897245
As someone who modded M&B for years: No, not really.

I mean maybe you could slice up all the models, rejig the textures, fill in the new gaps and re-rig them all. They would be relatively low-poly but M&B was never known for its graphics, and Bannerlord is looking to continue that trend.

The bigger problem comes with skeletons and animations for anything that isn't a human. M&B and Warband didn't support new skeletons and even the most rudimentary of alterations were immensely hacky. Maybe Bannerlord will have decent support, but it would still require animating everything from scratch.

Well, the Eastern Human factions (Border, Tilea, Estalia) finally got a full overhaul for Total Warhammer. Looks good.

If I play the army as being from hochland, ostland, or somewhere else far north there's a good chance nobody will have ever seen anybody from the southlands before.

Or I could just have them claim to be people from Albion.

There are numerous records of people going into medieval towns and pretending to be exotic foreigners for money and gifts even though they were from like 2 villages over.

>This Warband adds the Witch Hunters, with 7 new unit types and a fully playable campaign featuring unique Dramatis Personae, High Capitular Wilhelm Krieger.

>Amidst the rivalries and violence that splits the Empire, sinister forces creep back into the lands of men. Against these evils stand the Witch Hunters, remorseless warriors in service to the Temple of Sigmar. The witch practicing her fell magic, the mutant spreading its corruption of flesh, the necromancer violating the sanctity of the grave, the daemon seeking to possess souls – these are the foes of the Witch Hunter. The Witch Hunters will allow nothing to make them waver in their defence of mankind against these evils. They are the Templars of Sigmar, and with sword and fire they will return their god’s justice to Mordheim.

9th, ideal.

Age of Sigmar has literally no balance in any form, which is not an insult but an actual statement of truth since there is not a single rule regarding balance.

I mean, yeah, but don't people count up wounds or something?
>>
>>47900804
>Which edition of WHFB do the majority of people still play? What is the balance like in it?
Probably 8th.
Considering there are still hundreds of thousands of "I paint models and sometimes play but don't go to tournaments" that don't even know that Age of Sigmar happened and that 8th is gone now.

9th age is the most popular among the internet savvy younger people and anyone that goes to local LGS tournaments and such.

6th is most popular among the salty old fucks that didn't like anything past 6th anyhow.

6th and 9th have good balance.
8th is just 8th but you're still going to run into shit-tons of players because they just don't know that anything has happened yet.

Information moves slow in a hobby that can be done entirely by yourself for 90% of the time.

It's the issue with why Age of Sigmar has basically no players.
They relied on word-of-mouth and in-store shilling for an entire year and nobody except internet-people and store owners ever heard about it.
>>
>>47900861
Yeah if you think a skaven slave is equal in power to a clan rat or a high elf spearman or something.

That's basically a rule made by the community (I think) to try to make something. It's trash, though.
>>
>>47900861
There's been plenty of homebrew balancing systems, or alternative rulesets. Most of which are FAR more rules than the entire rest of the game.

Because its not a game, its a framework that is less complex than games you can buy from Toys R' Us.

Not to mention it makes pickup games hard as fuck, since you both have to agree on a comp ahead of time.

Its jut not a good game in any way. The only thing it has going for it is low model count, but at that point you'd be much better off just picking a real skirmish game and using GW miniatures in it.

I would make Brettonian society have a bit more social mobility and also have the units function more like historical ones.
>Men at Arms are renamed Militia, an almost entirely defensive force that is paid for out of the local nobilities pocket. Depending on the wealth of the area and the devotion of the nobility in keeping them to decent standards, they can look like a barely equipped rabble to resembling the professional basic soldiers of the empire. However, they are almost never as disciplined as empire soldiers simply due to service in the militia being a part time secondary job.
>Knight Errants and Knights of the Realm become the new Men at Arms. Like in history, they are heavy cavalry and the backbone of Bretonnian military might, consisting nobles, the retinue of nobles or commoners wealthy enough to fight like nobles. The recruitment for noble retinues is exactly the same as current Men at Arms recruitment. Include a short story paragraph where a noble gets left for dead by his sons, manages to survive and then disowns his sons and adopts his (former) commoner retinue.
>Pegasus knights, questing knights, grail knights and characters are all exclusively nobility however.
>Yeomen are the uncommon commoners that own land. When fighting to protect their land, they either do so on horseback or as scouts.
>>
>>47902650
Technically AoS, but the concept of dungeon crawling isn't new to warhammer, nor the silver tower is.

Personally I've been thinking about variations of the dungeons like a quest about escaping the brass coliseum of khorne, delving into the garden of nurgle or more conventional stuff like the tomb of a tomb kang.
But more than some themes and ideas for missions I've done nothing about it since I still have to get the rules.
>>
>>47904951
>Tomb Kang

Is that the name of a certain time traveling skeleton conqueror?
>>
>>47901387
Winnin' comes after fightin', duh

Anyway, always keep your morale good, you can have strong heroes and relatively tough troops but they will flee if not supported, BSB is practically mandatory; remember to take fast moving troops (spiders or wolves) to deal with warmachines and that being a greenskin doesn't mean to forget how to engage the enemy, always charging headfirst may see your troops getting stomped by the enemy's elite while you will want to flank.
Lacking armour piercing stuff to deal with cavalry, you will have to rely on troll vomit or ballistas, the latter can help you to especially against monstrous cavalry and chariots.

If savage horde, take the shrunken head and wurrzag.

I'd change bretonnia to be much more high magic and to fit their mounted combat theme better, to counter the Empires technological and infantry approach
>Grail knights are MCU captain america levels of power,
>in addition they have more pronounced magical gifts like chaos lords, but more good aligned
>peasant horsemen and horse archers are common troops
>chariots are only used by peasants and range from 2 man normal carriages to huge seige engines and transports that carry around the infantry men at arms
>damsels and prophetess' are much more common than the empire wizards
> fertility rates are through the roof for peasants and nobles alike
>average bretonnian noble family will have 15 kids, though only 4 of those will be female and few of the males will survive past knight errant or knight of the realm
>pegasus and hippogryph Knights much more common than their imperial counterparts, especially in the mountainous dukedoms
>transport ships can be enchanted to fly, and carry troops to areas they normally wouldn't be able to reach
>peasant militia and men at arms hardly brought on crusades, they are mostly for home defense
>beasts of the quest Knights a special mount for questing Knights and Grail Knights who can take them instead of slaying them
>the ladies blessing protects Knights from most gunpowder weapons, to a degree, and in sufficient strength can warp reality like the Orc WAAAGH effect
>as a nation they are good at war and anything related to their style of war, but little else.

I'm a bit unsure about these because I thought horses were regarded highly by the people of bretonnia, to an extent I would imagine the peasants themselves pulling chariots, but then again I don't know much and said horses could be halfbreeds or something

The same cheap, hardy horses used by the yeoman, not the purebred bretonnian steeds used exclusively by the Knights. Much like the peasants themselves, the horses aren't usually in war, they are bred for pulling carts and doing field work. As such, they aren't very battle tempered and are much more prone to panicking during fights. I also like the idea of peasants themselves pulling/pushing the massive seige chariots the same way the imperial flagellants are pulling that giant tower in the 7ed rulebook.

It's fun to think up units that would fit the theme of "impoverished chivalric France with magic and Elves". For example:

Hunchbacks are much more common in Bretonnia. They are unlike the kyphosis afflicted people of other nations, being considerably stronger than the average human and their distinctive hunched backs being much larger. They are a byproduct of the genetic tampering the population of Bretonnia has undergone. Sent to secluded monasteries at birth, they are compelled to defend religious relics while remaining secluded from the rest of society. The peasantry believes they are Changelings left by the Fay Folk of the forest.

pretty cool idea, imo, but i like that fantasy isn't a grimdark setting, and has clear-cut good guys. it feels like it's supposed to be more tolkien-esque than anything

Has the Warhammer world ever had a name? I'm sure all the various races could have their own word for it, but 'the Warhammer world' really kills immersion for me. I remember a drawing of the planets in the solar system it inhabits but I can't remember where it's from or if it gave the planet a name.

> Lacking armour piercing stuff to deal with cavalry

I'd say that Greenskins have some of the best anti-armour kit of any army in the game. They rip through Knights like they were Beastmen.
I'd consider all of the following to be anti-armour:
- Fanatics
- Spear Chukkas
- Doom Diver
- Pump Wagon
- Manglers

Not to mention the silly number of infantry with access to S5+.
Armour is one of the areas O&G really excel at, IMO.

I think hunchbacks do exist in the world, at least in Araby. The Araby character from dreadfleet had hundreds of them crewing his ship, and they were described as being far stronger than normal men

It's truly suffering especially since it's leaked into other games too, DnD has turned into optimization and roll play instead of fluffy characters and having fun, and don't get me started with Warmahordes and X-wing. No, it's WAAC when our high elf player literally pours over what's the FotM tourney list and runs it accordingly or sells off his elves for an Empire detachment gunline with 2 steamtanks since he read that was the go to list, or when from one day to another our O&G guy sold off his orcs to get literally the go to Daemons list, or when....the list goes on. /blog let's just enjoy some art

>it's WAAC to want to actually play the wargame and not just wank about the game pieces
Not him but it kinda is desu.

Games Workshop is, and has always been, a miniature and model company that also produces a cool setting with nice background lore.

That's why their balance and rules have almost always been absolute trash.

It's all about imagining yourself on the fields of Averland leading a sortie against an orc horde or sweeping down from the north and pillaging the weak.

It's an excuse to mentally LARP.

If you want to actually win consistently you're going to have to build your army outside of fluff considerations.

And some people don't even have the good graces to come up with any sort of background for their force at all.

The best way to play Warhammer is with a GM to design scenarios and adjudicate.
And multiple players per side.

You can still play competitively, it's just more about generalship, diplomacy and original thinking than who has the most warp-lightning cannons or whatever.

Well, let me ask it this way.

If I'm playing a Nurgle Daemons army, am I a Great Unclean One or Nurgle?
If I play Empire, am I Karl Franz? If I field Karl, do I become Sigmar?

Who am I if I field Nagash? Arkhan, watching from a hill and giving instructions to him about how the battle is going via commanding flags to be waved?

If I play a High Elf army, am I Tyrion? Finubar? Asyryan? If I play Wood Elves against Dark Elves, are me and my opponent both Khaine? Insane in the Khaine brain (insane in the Khaine, yeah)?

>>
>>47911922
>If I'm playing a Nurgle Daemons army, am I a Great Unclean One or Nurgle?
The GUO. You'd still pray to nurgle for your ward saves and clinch rolls, right?

>Who am I if I field [named character]?
iunno, it kinda doesn't work when you use characters who have their own motivations and personalities already detailed in the fluff

you can still play out a narrative with them, it's just a different kind of feel
>>
>>47911639
That's actually why I'm against being against named characters.

I mean, if I'm going to make a VC army that is My Dudes, I want my hero vamp as a self-insert serving Vlad or Neferata loyally.
Or the unit champion who's unit flying his heraldry is being graced with the presence of Tyrion as he leads the rest of the forces of Caledor to victory.

Like to me the army itself isn't 100% unique, but that your unique group is part of a larger unified force.
