So what are you working on this weekend /tg/?
Assembling a model? Painting something? Working out a kitbash? Or maybe just trying to work out a new list, perhaps one to start a new army with?
>>
>>47855780
Does anyone know when the rules for the new 40k terrain?
>>
>>47855801

Metal Boxes got their flesh bases done for white parts. Possible got inspired for the rest of them blood ravens thanks to E3 presentation. Still waiting for them Vedros rules.
>>
>>47855840
What do you mean?
>>
>Okay, for my dread army I seriously need some goddamn anti air, I'm buying a Deredeo.
>hmm... And a leviathan. Not strictly necessary or anything, but a lovely centrepiece and I've been winning lots of games. Might as fucking well take the hit to effectiveness it technically represents.
>The fuck do you mean that's not qualifying for free shipping
>FINE, I'LL TOSS IN A FUCKING THANATAR, ITS IN PREVIEW PICS FOR FIRES OF CRYAXUS WHY THE FUCK NOT

help me I have a fucking problem
>>
>>47855801
I'm working on my AOS models to try to get them done in time for the AOS summer campaign. Would work on my dark eldar but as the playstyle I want to use (gunboats) literally doesn't work (the "fastest army in the game" has to trundle around the table at 6" per turn) I don't have much motivation to get them finished for games. Maybe I should just finish them up so they look nice on the shelf at least...
>>
>>47855801
I'm working on painting my Orks, putting together my dakka jet and deff dread.

These units look really powerful, it's insane how many strength 10 attacks deff dreads get, I bet they could shred anything that doesn't kill them first.
I feel like I'm going to have fun with these two.
>>
>>47855801
exalted seeker chariot, i'm 70% done i believe. i'm worried that the colors will class though
>>
>>47855898

I'm sure you and the other three guys who turn up for the campaign will have a wonderful time.

Hey, if you do a third place play off, you might even be able to get a whole four games played!
>>
>>47855801
Three drop pods with magnetized doors.
>>
How would you arm an Imperial Knight?
>>
Just got into Warhammer 40k last month, Played Dawn of War 1 a lot and wanted to get into table top and just got the money. Originally wanted Necrons but I decided to play Orks after my friend talked about the fluff enough. I have poured a lot of money into my army so far but just built my stompa and built a 1500 point army around it.
Stompa
Ghazghull
Painboy
Meganobs
2xFlash gits
Kaptin Badrukk

I mainly play against Space Wolves and Chaos. Any formations I should look into? I have the codex and supplement, But I like custom formations
>>
>>47855993
Probably an avenger gatling cannon, thermal cannon, and a stormspear rocket pod.

But I don't know shit, I play Tyranids.

Nothing, anon.

It's too hot out here in the desert to prime anything, even at night it gets above 80+. So I've just got a whole lot of IG stuff still on their sprues as I feel unmotivated currently.
>>
>>47855801
Trying to settle on a first army. Didn't really like the contents of the Start Collecting CSM box, so now I'm leaning towards Space Wolves. Would two Start Collecting boxes and two Drop Pods be a good start?

>>
>>47856455
Are you suggest that the Admech act like the absolute worst kind of Indian tech support if you piss them off? Cause that's a great idea that's even more dickish than just saying "No more tech for you, fucker."
>>
>>47856399
Explain what? They're the weapon profiles.
>>
>>47856399
It's the descriptions for the weapons in the Imperial Knight Codex. Not much else to say about it.
>>
>>47855993
Rapid fire battle cannon, reaper chainsword.
For carapace weapons, it's simple:
Take ionstorm if you think you'll be up against hordes, autocannon if flyers are likely, and stormspear for everything else.
If for some reason you get to take a relic as well, take sanctuary.
>>
>>47856499
I picture them more like the cable company from South Park when they want to be dicks.

>>
>>47855993
With a single turbo-laser.

My Guard has a Crusader with battle cannon, gatling cannon, shoulder stubber, stormspear pod. CSM got a basic Paladin with shoulder stubber that I've converted into a Subjugator.

>>
>>47856593

>>47856604
>"Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods."
--(Shortened) Intro to the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Tech isn't that well understood and the tech priests don't like to share or let people be independent.
>>
>>47856637
>not putting two of the same gun on a Knight means you don't understand how tech works
That's stupid. I'm going to believe that the AdMech banned it because of something happened like what Horus did on Terra with the Warhounds.
>>
>>47856604
Most changes to tech in the Imperium has to actually be approved by a Magos or high in the Admech. It's one of the reasons why in some of the older codices the Razorback was still considered "new" and "untested" despite being in use for at least 3000 years. Course I may have just remembered that wrong but it still points out that the Techpriests of Mars are scarily ignorant about how some of the more advanced tech they maintain works.
>>
>>47856671
I never claimed it was for a good reason. Remember that time the admech helped out in a war, got their data, then left the guard to die?

I believe it's a power hold. If you teach a man to fish, why is he gonna buy fish from you anymore?
>>
>>47856723
Have the best fish
>>
>>47856723
>If you teach a man to fish, why is he gonna buy fish from you anymore?
Because he's a soldier and doesn't have time for fishing and fighting off enemies?
>>
>>47856723
Because you know the secrets to ultimate fish gathering?
>>47856764
This.
>>
>>47855869
I don't see nothing wrong.
>>
>>47856637
>>47856723
There's certainly an element of that, but don't forget that the AdMech is also a technology cult composed of sanctimonious engineers. In their minds, asking them to change a design like that is an insult - if it was such a great idea to put two gatling cannons on a Knight, that's how they would have done it to begin with.

Not to mention that specifications and blueprints/STCs are their holy texts. They look at aftermarket modifications the way that the Westboro Baptist Church looks at gay marriage.

>What's that, Blood Angels? Your overcharged engines keep breaking down on you?
>Well that's what happens when you fuck with the STCs given unto us by the Omnissiah. >Fucking heathens.
>>
So riddle me this, 40KG. As a newfaggot how many paints would I feasibly need to proficiently paint an army outside of the primer and base coats like in the Citadel starters?
>>
>>47856981
>Primer
>Base x2
>Layer x2
>Layer x2
>Wash x2

>>
>>47856981

>>
>>47856975
Forgot to add at the end
>I don't even know how an engine could be overcharged like that
>m-maybe you could show me?
>>
>>47856210
Only Renegade Knights can go dual Avengers.
>>
>>47857006
I meant per each color of the model. Given >>47857005's answer I'm just going to gather

1 x Base
2 x Layer
1 x Shade

Per color if I read that correctly. Sorry for the shit wording of the question.
>>
>>47857033
I would go
1x Base
1x Layer (2x Layer if you REALLY want to add highlights)
and maybe 1x Shade, but even then you could use the main two shades for most colors.
>>
>>47857033
>Per color if I read that correctly.
Yep, you got it.

What are you painting?
>>
>>47857089
I haven't read up on the game in years but I'm torn between a Nurgle Daemon army and possibly Space Marines/Eldar. A friend who was trying to help me get back into it and shake off the rust has been saying shit like Eldar and Necron to get back into the groove of painting but from lurking in here the old space Terminators are having a bad time it seems.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer/comments/4djegd/painting_500_points_of_nurgle_in_a_weekend/

Prime white! Or black. White for me.
I painted the weapons Boltgun Metal
First wash was Athonian Camoshade
Second wash was (half of the minis) Agrax Earthshade or Gryphonne Sepia *Rust up the weapons with Typhus Corrosion and Ryza Rust
Next is two (2) washes of Carroburg Crimson on the wounds and guts *Yellow eyes, Screaming Skull or Ushabti Bone teeth

>>
>>47857033
Yeah, pretty much.
>Basecoat the general colour
>Layer to the colour you actually want
>Different layer to highlight
>Shade
You can miss the basecoat stage and just put the first layer paint over your primer, but you need so many more thin layers to get a strong colour that it's not really worth it. Also, you can double up on shades, lots of people do the entire model with just agrax or nuln oil.

Do ignore the GW painting guides with 4-5 different layer paints per colour, that's not necessary, especially when starting.

>>
>>47857376
I'd just be washing a nurgle army to have fun with it (hopefully), not enter a painting contest. My general idea which people will probably go "That's stupid" to is giving them some hues of blue as well in the extremities like their feet, hands, and stomachs so that it gives them the appearance of a waterlogged plague-ridden daemon rising out from a foetid swamp.

Pretty much yes. I mean, dicking a Nurglette would be like shoving your cock in one of the most horrifyingly soft and sponge-like vaginas of any -ette. Comparatively to Khornette or even Daemonette who could probably crush your dick into a fine red paste with a kegel flex a Nurglette's vaginal canal is infinitely yielding like wet, soft dough. I mean, yeah. Grandfather Nurgle provides but she probably has every kind of STD known to man and even if your dick and soul don't rot away upon sticking it in you still have to deal with popping pustules on the lips of her labia that release a strangely aphrodisiac pus or bile onto your genitals.

But you do you man, I'm not here to judge. You fucking heretic. Just don't try to kiss her with tongue because if you do that it's pretty much tongue wrestling an avacado faced cyclops with a blood colored worm for a tongue. I mean, what?

This is more common than you think.
The problem is that this hobby, how much we try to ignore this subject, is a hobby on the extreme end of things. Most people don't even know what miniature wargames are at all. And it doesn't get better when you try to explain.

So to sum it up, you are ether a
1- Nerd
2- Closet nerd
And you need to find people with a similar interests, of which there are few. The problem being, nerds tend to not go out side their comfort zone much. And closet nerds don't brag about their incredibly nerdy side.

My example is that most of my group simply quit playing 40k after Fantasy died. We all knew GW where assholes, but that like, dropped the ball and many got scared away to other games. So now its only me and this other guy who shows any interest in the game at all. Whats even more frustrating is that the rest of the guys still hang on to their stuff, refusing to sell or borrow, having it all stacked away down the cellar or up on the attic.
And both me and my friends are somewhat closet nerds, not really living the hobby so to speak, so its hard to find new friends to play. And even if we did, we liked our old group, we had played this game for a good 15-20years, and we knew each other really well.

So not really wanting to, I have several large armies just standing there... hardly ever seeing any table time.

Well the autarch was mainly to get the bonus on reserve rolls to get the hawks and crimson hunter in on turn 2, vibrocannons for some ranged anti-tank/wraithknight and the vyper was just to fill the last 45 points, I've got some falcons/wraithguard/wave serpents and farseer/warlock skyrunners but idk what to cut to fit any of that filth in

>>47859852
in my opinion, go for the DE start collecting box. everybody gets the Dark Vengeance set and the pieces are mostly snap-fit, which means that you actually will do very little of the modeling unless you take a knife to it. But if you're really set on marines I would recommend the Betrayal at Calth set. that's a lot of dudes for a low price, and you can build them for any legion/chapter you want.
>>
Okay I don't actually play Space Marines, so should I sit on my Imperial Space Marine to see if it goes up in value, or just sorta built it and then forget I have it?

Marine's a marine, though. If you're losing characters to it, you'd have lost them to a basic meltagun even easier.

space marine problems are mostly linked to formations, with some exceptions

what should I buy together with DE box? Scourges?

It's really more a matter of principle than it being OMG scary (though deleting a big monstrous creature that easy is situationally a bitch)

It's pay to win, 100% free slot into any list, without even the requirements of a formation. Minor? Yeah, but still kinda a slap in the face.

You're likely hitting twice, so it's roughly a 20% chance that you're wounding at, AP 2, anything up to T8. Factor in reroll to wound shenanigans and you get a very threatening weapon to most MCs and GCs. It's basically an invuln check, no FNP allowed, and eternal warrior on MCs is rare or incredibly expensive usually.

Sorry bub. I feel for you but Stompas aren't a very solid choice in anything but fuck huge apocalypse style games. At 1500 pts you won't have much on the table. I wish it wasn't so because I love my Stompa model.

If you're stubborn like me and want to try anyway try bumping up to 2k pts and picking up a big mob of stormboyz. The Stormboyz can bubble wrap your Stompa and benefit from its fearless aura without slowing it down. I'm thinking of getting some rokkits pack bitz to convert my 20 choppa boyz.

Also, if you're ever considering putting the 30 pt grot rigger upgrade on your Stompa, don't. You can get 2 meks for 30 pts because of mekaniaks and get twice as many repair rolls.

I pretty much only use shoota boyz for my troops now, and even then solely as objective grabbers. You can kind of get away with MSU boyz in trukks in a Stompa list against bad players , because the Stompa is such an AV sponge.

Yeah.

£46 is actually a reasonable price for a Leviathan Dread. Big bulky kit in a nice sculpt from the mail-order small run sub company.

£72 after getting it two weapons, less so.

>>47860559
When they come in, take molds off of them and recast them until you have 2-3 good copies of each. Then resell the originals on eBay for 10% less than retail or assemble and paint them and sell them for a profit.
>>
>>47860682
Let's say you already own some cards and choose the Modern format: Theoretically forever.

Standard would be useable 1.5 years I think, I don't really know, since I only play modern and draft.
>>
>>47860774

Not actually the worst idea, if it's possible to actually pull off reasonably well and cheap.
>>
>>47860739
the thing is, if it came with weapons, you're prob paying about 80 pounds for the kit with 2 weapons you might not even want, this way you pay about the same price, but end up with the weapons you need, instead of two useless ones.

Yeah, but The Chinaman (I love that this community has a shady guy who sounds like a matrix character) don't make it easy to get in contact.

Also I don't really want my shit later, full of possible defects and potentially able to get me banned from the GW I get pickup games from.
>>
>>47860866
Maybe, but my point is that they're gonna cost that much either way, at least this way you're not paying for arms you dont even want
>>
>>47860808
It takes some practice and some nigger rigging if you want to do it right, but the only expensive part is the mold material so you can just try again and again until you get one without defects. You can pretty easily get two or three sets of everything for less than the price of one, especially if you're willing to tolerate minor defects or work with green stuff.

Plus, it's another part of the hobby to master.

What should I add to my Knight House's system? They have a large system under their control, and I wanted to add a beach world where the Knights pilots can lounge around in their free time with a beach house. The beach house contains what they refer to as the "sofa of death". In ages past it would be a tradition to not get caught in lovers' throws on the sofa for the younger nobles, but the older ones got tired of this and tried to destroy the sofa. But the sofa was a DAOT relic and nearly destroyed the Knight trying to destroy the sofa. Now all members of the House live in fear of the sex stained war sofa.

ID is supposed to be special and valued. Only special characters or special weapons have such a power, like the Swarmlord or a Liberian. Even a Liberian still has to cast a power to get it. There are many weapons that are considered good because they give you ID on a 6.

No matter what your toughness, wounds, armor or FNP is you die. 285 point Swarmlord and his bodyguards? That's 11 wounds at T6 3+ armor, but could be obliterated by 4 meltas drop pod or deep striking Crisis Suits no problem.

Marine and Tau players would just mass deep strike meltas and completely obliterate every army in the game. Wow you sure made the game better.

You've given the power of ID in the form of usually a 10/15pt upgrade for regular units. How the fuck is this even remotely a good idea.
>>
>>47861625
You clearly are quite butthurt, given how often you bring up some way or other that you think MCs should gain the disadvantages vehicles have.

And melta doesn't need a boost, it happily kills the shit out of vehicles, which is its purpose. The solution to grav being too effective against too many different targets is not to bring more stuff up toward grav's level...

If you're feeling ballsy, look into choppy DE allies, if only to bring their delicious open-topped transports for you to jack for your Banshees. It's a pity the FAQ draft hit that strategy (and DE in general) so hard because it was fun as balls to play.

Also don't forget about Scorpions, those fuckers eat hordes like Banshees never will, and Infiltrate alleviates the need for their own personal party bus.

Maybe Tau MCs should just be walkers.

If you think Tau rely on Riptides you're stuck in 6th edition.

I could beat the ever living breaks off everyone here that wasn't running Ad Mech or Eldar with 0 MCs or GCs. Fuck the retarded "muh 6 gorillion razorbacks" SM formation. Wipe them off the board, wouldn't even draw objective cards.

Orks seem very zen-like in their perception of history. They don't give much of a fuck about past or future, only the moment at hand. They don't take trinkets as memories of good WAAAGHs, they take good luck charms and usable scrap for immediate advantage.
So, my question is, would an Ork know or care about 40k lore enough to explain it?

I play Tau, and the Stormsurge definitely should've been a walker. But for Riptides and Crisis suits, I remember reading in the lore that it's essentially a "Tau Dreadnought" where the pilot is connected to his suit through a needle in the neck or something so that his brain can control it. But the Ghostkeel, as we can see on its model is a different story, featuring control panels and such.

I mean, if the other IA books are anything to go by they usually include everything they have models for, albeit often with (very) different rules. Transports, tanks and big baddies are exactly what 40k AdMech lacks since all they really have right now are a bunch of elite light infantry, some light fire support and knights. This is partially true. The Daemon player in our group was running Screamers one time and played them as though that the armorbane hit that he exchanges his regular attacks for still retained the normal number of attacks and not the single armorbane hit. >>

Land speeders can deep strike, which a lot of people forget. Alternatively, and this will sound trite, just make it look like less of an easy frag and more of a pain to kill that isn't worth the time of his unit to shoot at. Hide it in cover for those sweet saves, hide it behind terrain to block LOS and so on, or just go Flat Out right in his direction, preferably while doing the above.

Sure, he could shoot your 70 point speeder, but it has a 3+ cover save, and only one unit can see it? May as well shoot the Land Raider instead. Conversely, you drove it in his face and it's now lining up melta shots? Better fucking get rid of it, jink be damned, and just have to take the fire from that Deredeo that's still standing next turn.

I have indeed been playing this hobby for almost a year now, and I understand CSM is on the under-powered side of the competitive ring. I'll admit that the list has little in the way of anti-vehicle besides the Melta bombs, and I do have a Heldrake but that's just not very Slaanesh-y. If I had Noise Marines I could have something a little more versatile in that department, but this army was more or less an excuse for me to field a bunch of Chosen because it seems like I never use them.
I do plan to have the Lord lead the squad of normal marines, points simply limited what I could give them.

So new to this, 3rd to 7th guy actually, and have only played 1k games or similar with my guard. I managed to fill out a 999pt list with what I had (plus almost EVERY upgrade) and just grabbed two more boxes of guardsmen for much needed bodies. I pretty much have 30ish vanilla lasguns, 4 of each special weapon, 8 sarges and 8 vox boxes. Would it actually be worth it to use every one of these to fill out a bunch of infantry squads en masse? How good are non veterans in a 10 man team in 1500ish games and/or should I just clump them with combined squad?

P.S the only other units I have is two commisars, a handfull of command models, two battle/vanquisher Russ, and a single chimera.

Always clump the basic infantry together.

For guard you generally have 3 armies.
-Tank spam, nothing but av14 leman russes with two squads of vets in chimeras to fill a cad.
-Chimera vets, just loads of veterans with special weapons in a chimeras with maybe a few supporting vehicles.
-Human wave, maximize infantry blobs then use 'unit wide' buffs to make them crazy like putting a divination psyker in there to make them all twin-linked and give them rending, a priest to make them zealots and so on.
>>
>>47864126
I dont hate the idea of combining #3 and #2 Ill just need to get ahold of some priests and psykers. Would you recommend the HQ ones or Windrave? Preach, european brother. I always get a bit frustrated when people tell me "Run transports lol" or "just field these units that cost an arm and a leg". Nigga, I make a list and buy/convert, being as frugal as possible. I ain't fucking buying 3 of every box in the army to mix n match.

Exquisite.

Kor'lath. When the unit dies you get a thirster that loses D3 wounds a turn, otherwise just an AoK. It's great because you can stick it on a jump lord and then use dark apotheosis on the tithe to get a DP with Kor'lath as well as a first thirster. It's straight scummy stuff but it works.

Some of the FW stuff makes me want to use them, I could always use more big guns for my infantry without resorting to a vehicle. Batteries look cheaper and if it can benefit from orders that'd be amazing.

Primaris psykers are better in every way.

>>47864233
Yeah that's a good army to build but not all arty is worth it, basilisks are unfortunately not that good anymore.

Thats terribly unfortunate since they look amazing imo. Those long barrels get me giddy. Wyverns are cool and all but then wheres my anti armor pies?

Can 30k Knights be used in 40k? I ask because I'm imagining Tau feeling slightly less smug when faced with some of the more advanced Knights.
>>
>>47864919
Does it have rules outside of 30k? If no then you can't without your opponent agreeing to let you, and if your objective is to kick him down a notch then why would he?
>>
>>47864955
I was asking if said knight patterns made it into the modern 40k in-universe.
>>
>>47864919
Most of them can. I think the only one that can't is the Styrix because its primary weapon is Volkite.

The 40k rules for FW knights are still on the website. They'll probably get printed whenever the new IA book finally comes out.

There are other restrictions for taking them, though, like you can't have more FW knights than you have normal IK in an IK detachment I believe. All the rules are available for free, so go check them out.

From a fluff standpoint you can go right ahead and Forge the Narrative, but if it doesn't actually have 40k rules then you can't use it in 40k without special dispensation, although with a few exceptions 30k is generally more balanced than 40k so most people that would decline you are just scared of the mysterious Forge World.and your expensive resin models.

Oh wait, you're stupid enough to think a purely melee army without one of the above elements in support will do well.

To be honest I think the Cerastus Knight Acheron is probably one of those exceptions (although that's one of the knights allowed in 40k anyway).

They're really good; or at least they would be if I fought any vehicles. Too bad riptides aren't vehicles.

I could imagine maybe one Styrix being locked in a closet of some Knight House or forge world and won't be used when some noble feels like taking it on a Sunday drive. But from a narrative standpoint Styrix's don't belong in 40k because Volkite?

Cultists don't do anything well, are overpriced, and have shit leadership.

If Cultists were any good, blob spam IG would be one of the best armies in the game.
>>
>>47864792
Forge world has earthshaker cannons and rules for them, it would be cheaper just to convert these out of the basilisk kits if you're good at it.

Nice strawman.

He was talking about Flying circus, screamer star and other such very specific lists, not that a petulant manchild like you would actually bother to read someones post before insulting them.

If you had 8 bikers, each with a different load-out of wargear, then each one was allowed to take a single wound before any of them took their second wound

I've never played 40K but I'm wondering is there a quick reference for armies and what they excel in? IG sounds the most appealing because I dig magic (which I know they're lacking) and artillery.
