I like the new Archaon's armor. IMO the old model was GOAT when it came to pose, but the armor looked pretty plain, especially compared to other Chaos Lord models which were more ostentatious than Archaon himself, which was silly.
New model has GOAT armor, but the pose is fucking trash and the mount is retarded. I want NuArchaon in the old pose on his horse.

I think that works for its benefit.
To look at 40k for a moment, space marines are easily identifiable due to their silhouette. They have blank spaces and smooth curved oni their shoulderpads and helmets, and a sense of 'body' to them--big, bulky, intimidating.
Archaeon, and to an extend a good deal of the old WoC line, had that going for them as well. You could tell what they are from a glance. From a painter's perspective, they were--much like marines--easy to paint with plenty of room to convert and free-hand as you saw fit. The newer line for Chaos is festooned with details, making it far more tedious to paint since you have to block off and highlight so much fiddly garbage.
There's an ease and beauty in simplicity, and that's something I think GW forgot once they grasped how CAD worked.

See, I LIKE the over-design of the armor, as my favorite version of Chaos is Ian Miller's Chaos Knights of yore. What Chaos should return, especially with modern advanced sculpting by computers, is being covered in grotesque warped 16th century displays, coming alive across the armor to really show how warped the servants of Chaos are.

That sort of over-design is fine for heroes or for small skirmish-level games, but when you're expected to paint up dozens of models it can really cut into time and enjoyment.
