Building a kuro deck, any suggestions?
>>
>>47564519

dont
>>
>>47564519
Might need some more info first. What are trying to do with the deck?
>>
>>47564539
Using kuro as a finisher along with life altering effects. Get everyone's hands down, pay a shitload of life, set everyone's life total to mine/ swap, then corrupt or drain everyone.
>>
i dont want to shit up these threads but im just using the meren pre con and im wanting to actually have fun, reposting my question from last thread
just getting into commander, i would like to do a +1/1 counters deck that use thigs like predator ooze, kalonian, hardened scales and shit like that, what would you suggest for a commander? anafenza?
>>
>>47564654
If you like Abzan colors, Ghave, Guru of Spores is your man. Or thing, whatever.
>>
>>47564600
sounds like a lot of work that you can very rarely actually pull off

what happens when your swap gets countered/someone kills you before you swap/anyone is running any sort of interaction?
>>
>>47564476
My group allows this as a commander

How good is a Kytheon deck these days? Out of all the flipwalkers, Gideon is the only one I have real love of. Sarkhans cool but there's no kid creature version. I imagine you'd just want to load him up with equipment and weenies but I'm so unfamiliar with flipwalkers I'd like to hear some tips and tricks.
>>
>>47564654
Mimeoplasm is fun for exactly that. When you cast it, you pick two creatures from your graveyard, get the stats and abilities of one, with +1/+1 counters equal to the other creature's power. I run one myself and have a lot of fun with it in general.
>>
>>47564654
Ghave is good as someone mentioned, he easily combos with a lot of things, but because of that his power level can get high very quickly. You can also go with prime speaker zegana, she draws you cards and there are a bunch of doubling counters effects in those colors
>>
>>47564731
>from your graveyard
Any graveyards
>>
>>47564654
marchesa is stronk, but grixis.
i use her for arcbound tribal.
desu i really want a 5c +1/+1 counter general, theres so much juicy counter tech in all colors, but not you always miss out on something cool, grixis for example gives you proliferate, but abzan gives you awesome counter lords, hardened scales and doubling season.

its never enough
>>
>>47564698
Jesus, you might as well have a Westvale or Erbuis as your commander.
>>
>>47564724
well the main problem is he is mono white, which is probably the weakest of all mono colored decks in edh. But if you can get past that, he is a solid 1-drop with protection that you can easily flip if you build the deck to go wide with weenies/tokens, but most people tend to focus planeswalkers when they get on board.
>>
>>47564763
Given how universal counters are it's strange that there's no 5c legend that uses them in any way. Closest is maybe Tazri to tutor up counter allies but that's so janky and awful I probably could have erased the suggestion from this post and you wouldn't have noticed the difference.
>>
>>47564753
I always forget about that because I try to set myself up, but your right. It's amazing when it works and you get to exile something neat.
>>
>>47564724
I can't really see Flipeon being any good.

All his kid version has going for him is expensive indestructibility, and his walker has no ultimate and limited dickery.
He can't even Voltron, as in one hit, he'll flip, and equipment drop off Gideon's combat form at the end of turn.

All I've ever seen with him with is Mono-White Weenies.
And when I'm doing that, I much prefer Boros colours.

I wouldn't touch him.
>>
>>47564476
How does Bellstriker's dash cost work? Does it increase for any reason, ever?

Does his standard mana cost increase each time he dashes?
>>
>>47564941
I'm pretty sure it would stay two mana each time he bounces back to your hand, even if he's killed and he has commander tax.
>>
>>47564941
I don't believe you can dash from the command zone
>>
Built a RW Angel Tribal deck, but could use a few suggestions. Trying hard to keep the cards thematically appropriate, so obviously not gonna throw in dragons or anything.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/avacyn-and-her-angelic-army/
>>
>>47564988
You totally can. Dash just returns him to hand after, it doesn't care where you cast if from, or it would say that. Look at Phage for an example.
>>
>>47564941
Yes, dash is still affected by commander tax if you cast him with dash from the command zone.
>>
>>47564941
The dash cost increases if he's in the command zone, since commander tax always applies there. In your hand it's always two, since commander tax does not apply from your hand.

Luminarch Ascension can be absurdly good
Angel's Trumpet can be fun
Angel of Jubilation can fuck people up
Sunblast Angel always looked neat to me
Firemane Angel maybe

Would recommend Unexpectedly Absent, Chaos Warp, and/or Oblation for noncreature permanent removal in your sunforger package. Oblation can be used on yourself in a pinch to draw 2. Tithe, Master Warcraft, and Wild Ricochet too.

Some good nonangel cards that benefit RW decks include: Knight of the White Orchid, Prophetic Flamespeaker, Steelshaper's Gift, Gift of Estates, Weathered Wayfarer, Expedition Map

You can start by tossing out the Iona's Blessing, Nahiri's Machinations, Ash Zealot, Fiendslayer Paladin, and Fall of the Titans

What's your most sentimental card, /tg/? For me it's pic related. I opened one when I was 11, and the art made me want to make a zombie deck. I had no clue how to actually play the game, and moved on to other things. A couple of years ago I picked Magic up again, learned how to play, and now I've finally got him in a zombie token deck with Gisa. Might put him in a Mikaeus reanimator deck though.
>>
>>47565578
That card would be spectacular in Lim-Dul
>>
>>47565553
Oh it's entirely situational, that's why I love it. I run a lot of things from the graveyard and just having it in the deck is a good way to stop people from sideboarding graveyard hate. He'll never swing, but he will make sure things work as well as possible.

Might be Mirari's Wake for me. As a kid I only had one deck and it was GW. I didn't know much about the rules but when the Wake hit the field I knew I was gonna win.

Fast forward a decade or something; one of the first commander decks I designed was a 5-color Karona deck which uses that same Mirari's Wake. It still kicks ass and she's still my favorite commander.

The old gold borders looked pretty bad but somehow the art on Karona and on this card really made it work.

Oh also I ran Shepherd of Rot in a Tymaret-Zombies Tiny Leaders deck when that was a thing. He brought my opponents within Tymaret's burn range very often

Reposting this question:

Several /edh/ ago, there was an anon that posted this image of several cards that shared a similar ability, triggered I think, which fit neatly into a potential four-color combo (ie. potential Commander 2016 theme). Was curious if anyone knew what I was talking about, I wanted to look further into those cards but forgot what any of them or the ability itself were.

If it helps even the tiniest bit, I think one of the cards was a sphinx. Most of them were creatures I believe.

Not him but that's what I use him for in Grenzo, I'm rarely disappointed. I get a 5/5 demon and can sac the priest to an altar to get more Grenzo activations. Also a way to increase my board presence if I can loop the priest by sending him back to the bottom of my library and activating Grenzo again.

Not a terrific card but definitely not an awful one either.

If you have Meren, it takes very little doing to turn her deck into a Mazirek deck. He even comes included. Mazirek sac is sweet.

Combos off infinitely very easily, but that's not necessary. Just be very conscious of persist creatures.
>>
>>47566976
There are so many things that combo with persist it often ends up being stronger than Undying. That's sort of fucked.

And I thin it's a fuck-up in development for them to print a new commander that combos with a keyword. Not with a couple of cards, every commander has something or other it combos with. No, let's print a commander that combos with anything that has this one already powerful keyword. Mazirek isn't even that powerful, it just annoyed me watching all these oh-so-clever mazirek persist combo decks popping up everywhere after release.

It's respectable acceleration.

No question, it's a lower power option, but if the point of a deck is to make big hydras, nobody directly promotes that like Rosheen.

That said, hydra tribal can easily be fitted into essentially any green deck and it would be fine. Notable candidates include commanders with +1/+1 counter synergy. So...Anafenza, Ghave, Kraj, Mazirek, Zeganna, Animar, are all valid choices, to name a few.

I've got a 60 card deck focused around that guy, only instead of using Knights my deck runs a bunch of different Rats and abuses Ashes of the Fallen and Conspiracy to make them work together. It got me a reputation too, but instead they called me "that guy who makes too many Holocaust jokes."

I work at a high school and run a small Magic group there for students at lunchtimes. We just have decks made of starter decks combined together to make 60 card decks, plus a few other duel-colour decks I threw together at the FLGS with the aid of the Magic guy there.

The students love Green above all else. Big creatures, mana acceleration from elves.

They won't let me play Blue against any of them because they don't like its tricks, and they can't figure out the tricks themselves.

Next favorite is Black because of deathtouch and the two Nightmares in the deck.

They're not very keen on White but they do like that it has flyers, and they really like Pacifism.

They don't like Red at all. It's by far the least popular.

God bless that poor bastard running thick Teysa. How?

Also, does Kira do anything interesting?
>>
>>47571070

You're absolutely right there. I've played against kids who have three times the number of creatures I do, and could attack me with minimal losses, and no matter how much I try to encourage them to just attack, they don't. They sit there just building up bigger and bigger creatures, which is why Green is so popular.

The one kid who has been playing the longest though is starting to get it and is becoming much more aggressive.

Bloody hell though teaching them about when to use instants has been painful. They can't quite get the idea of being able to cast them at ANY time. So they'll slap down Titanic Growth on their creature prior to declaring their attack. The one guy playing the longest though is getting it. Mind you even he still tries to cast Counterspell on stuff that's been on the battlefield for 3 turns.

The Teysa deck has some insanely good matchups(Edric, Krenko, Kataki) and some seriously terrible matchups(Azami, Ghave, Prossh). It's just a pretty straighforward BW pillowfort deck and he doesn't actually cast her until super late game when he starts beating down.

As for Kira it's just a sea monsters tribal deck that uses her as as protection/curve filler.

Sup /tg/,

I'm building a Kaseto snake tribal deck. The power level is laughably low, and I'm looking for some more flavourful polymorphing removal. Right now I've got:
- Rapid Hybridization
- Pongify
- Curse of the Swine
- Beast Within
- Reality Shift

Are there any more cards in UG that have a similar effect? I know of cards like snakeform and turn to frog, but I find those too rarely worth it.

So, I love Force Spikes. I don't know why, but I do. Counterspells that make people regret tapping out or tapping their mana without thinking.

I also love this pirate vertical cycle. They are pretty weak, but catching people off guard with them is super fun.

So, I want to see if I can build a deck around it. Problem is, I hate Grand Augustus IV. Is there anyone that works well with this theme that isn't him?

What other colors other than UW get this sort of effect? Rhystic was in all five colors, but was pretty bad on the whole. Also, is there any way to do this without getting on everyone's shitlist?
>>
>>47573070
I would start with Piracy, War's Toll, Mana Web, and Price of Glory. Maybe in a grindy Keranos deck with a decent amount of land destruction to limit mana even further. Effects like Land Equilibrium combined with Gush/Fathom Seer effects to save your lands from your MLD and make sure you have less lands then your opponents. Maybe even go into UWR for Land tax effects as well. I think Force Spike and other tax effects aren't going to be very good in EDH without limiting your opponents mana pretty heavily.
>>
>>47572997
Blasting Station and either Requiem Angel or Archangel of Thune can go infinite with Darien and a soul sister.

Karma + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is also lots of fun.

Retribution of the Meek is an excellent wrath, Meekstone and Crackdown work well for you too.

Mind's Eye and Well of Lost Dreams can be good for draw. Staff of Nin also synergies well with him.

Mana Vault is good, Mana Crypt too if budget allows. They have almost no downside with Darien as you want to take damage.

Well, Price of Glory would be bad, given that I want to run counterspells. Mana Web and War's Toll is a good idea. I already wanted to run R for some minor LD.

I don't think I could get away with running any serious LD without getting banished from any of my playgroups. We're pretty casual. It does however mean that we tend towards Battlecruiser MtG, which means people tap out a lot. Things like Complicate seem like crazy value.

Maybe Ruhan? He plays into the political theme a bit (being completely impartial) and might help me seem less like a bad guy.

It's pretty much self-explanatory. Someone had a typical 4.5 average CMC black deck with only 29 swamps and one dark ritual as his mana sources (may have had a couple of mana rocks, but not many). Came here asking for advice on his deck. When told he needed more lands, he got mad and argued that he didn't and that we had no idea what we were talking about.

I think it was revealed at some point in the conversation that his group used the Sheldon-endorsed Gis Mulligan rules (aka mulligan until you have enough lands or some shit)

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you.
Here you go: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/mgs-kamigawa-crisis/

Now, if you're wondering why I have some 'garbage' equipment in the deck, it has to do with Kaseto'so ability. See, his ability costs 1 Mana for every +1/+1 that he gets. With that in mind, I searched for equipment that for every Mana I spent, whether it was to cast or equipt, gave him +1 to his power. Any exceptions are because they give a huge effect for their Mana cost or...well that's it really. Also a point to note is that I tried to keep the curve of the deck as low as possible. I never wanted to worry about if I had enough Mana to do what I wanted at any time, including answers. There have been several times I have taken 1 land hands and have gone to win because the curve is so low.

>>
>>47575787
There's 35, though I don't play all of them, and no, there aren't as far as I know, but still, the deck works fine.
>>
>>47575858
Necro can't be reanimated and isn't strapped to a creature that can immediately make the life investment back. I would like Grizzlebrizzle back though.
>>
>>47575858
You can't reanimate Necropotence.

And if you're playing it in the first place you're probably in mono-B, which needs cards like that to function at all.
>>
>>47575922
Sure you can't reanimate it but you can easily cheat it out with Zur/Academy Rector
>>
>>47575858
The big problem with Grizzlybrand is that he's good at what he does and he's a creature.

That means it turns into a fight over who can steal/clone/reanimate Grizzlybear the most, which was the same reason they originally banned Kokopuffs and eventually banned Primetime. Necropotence is a fuckload harder to reanimate/clone/steal over and over, so the game doesn't stop being EDH and start being "Everyone fight over Necropotence".
>>
>>47576153
Necro's also got the weird timing restrictions and the discard trigger that means you can't go full retard with it, while Yawgmoth's Bargain is banned.
>>
>>47575858
Necropotence's balancing factor, while not completely ignored by Griselbrand like with Yawgmoth's Bargain, is still relevant.

Essentially, you can't keep drawing until you get what you want. You have to put a down payment in and you'll get it end of turn. You don't get to see what cards you already have before choosing whether to pay more.

Necro is still busted, obviously. But that's its biggest distinction.

I actually won once a 4-player pod, because animar player cast Glimpse of Nature and accidentally decked himself for digging answers to my peacekeeper, which he had none. I won, because the other two players scooped pretty soon.
>>
>>47575673
Dromar is absolute worst of the invasion dragon legends, because most of the time he banishes himself. He's like worse Norin the Wary.
>>
>>47575949
I think most of the decks that run Academy Rectum run cards that are more game winning than Necropotence.
>>
>>47575038
That's also over five times as expensive as the list I have currently planned out. My playgroup tends to be on the slow and casual side, so I'm just going to roll with snake tribal.

Kaseto IS a good voltron commander, though. I'm not sure whether you meant 'take a look at my list' as 'draw inspiration from this' or as 'please give criticism'. If the first: definitely going to use a few of those. If the latter: I don't really have experience with creatureless voltron. Any cards I might recommend you already have.

Why are people so fucking ignorant of how good mutliplayer EDH decks can actually be? I swear 95% of everyone who plays EDH has never actually played against anyone even remotely competitive or optimized.

Who cares? If they're having fun it's all good

Momir Vig is a tutor general.

You will QUICKLY become bored of a tutor general; it makes every game play extremely similarly. Personally, I enjoy EDH because I am doing something different each game, and working with what I get. A tutor general defeats much of the point for me.

But I guess your mileage may vary.

I'm just tired of players who THINK they know what a really nasty EDH deck looks like but really have no idea. It's fine to play a format and have fun and everything, but I wish peoplke wouldn't pretend to know things that they don't.

Do you have an example of what you're talking about?

...preferably an example that explains why you're so butt hurt about it?

Disagree completely, I've played captain sisay for years and never gotten bored

No matter what deck I play, each game will be both unique in its own way but also similar to every other game played with that commander

I don't tutor the same cards in the same order every game because I have to respond to the situation at hand, also, you're not going to be able to sit there tutoring exactly what you want over and over in very many games anyway, having a tutor general doesn't mean you don't have to work with what you draw, especially with something like momir vig who is 5 cmc

In my mind having a tutor general is lots of fun and has lots of replay value because you can run toolbox effects and grab them when the time is right

Anon, an EDH deck's nastiness is context dependent.

I have a $150 Meren deck that does pretty standard, lowkey Meren stuff, but if I need to, I can loop a fleshbag marauder 3 or 4 times a turn. If I brought this deck into a meta of unmodified pre-cons, and I throw down a sheoldred, a birthing pod, and a bloodghast, I would have the nasty deck.

Nastiness is entirely relative, so you should probably be chill if someone plays weaker decks and thus has a reduced idea of what constitutes a degenerate deck. They DO know what a nasty EDH deck looks like, because they watched it kick their deck's ass mercilessly.

Well, what do you mean? I know what a nasty deck looks like, I just don't enjoy playing with or against them

I like playing and building whatever I want. Is it the best way? Probably not, but exploring different avenues of play is the fun part

Is blowing up everyones permanants with lux cannon nasty? Because thats what im building. Like im operating the deathstar or something.

Today I beat my personal record of huginess by ending a game at 1080 life attacking with 4 1080/1080.

Trostani populating ajani goldmane tokens is awesome.

Meren player here. I try to play low key but I'll usually lose because i'm playing too passively, but when I try to play aggressively I become the immediate target and get shut down almost instantly, and lose. Should I just switch over to a shitter commander or something?
>>
>>47580629
Well anon, it really depends on how quickly you're blowing up their permanents compared to how quick is typical to the meta.

If you're blowing up their boards in one turn via infinite loop, maybe you're playing a nasty deck in their meta.

Like I said, it's relative and meta dependent.

I had the same problem when I was figuring her out. Basically only cast her when you have more aggro monsters on the field and/or when you're ready to sac at least 2 creatures or more.

Of course play her when you have protection for her too like boots or greaves.

I'm talking about the 4 turn combo decks, the 3000 dollar azamis that control the entire game and win instantly on turn 7, the mimeoplasm kiki/splintertwin control decks. The decks that aim to win any game by turn 7 or 8 with a significant amount of control. People seem to think that decks with generals like Sharuum the Hegemon or Karador are actually any good beyond having a ton of fun.

I'm massively butthurt because 2 peeple haven joined our playgroup recently and complained that we use 800 dollar cards and "try to win" despite warning them beforehand that we took things pretty seriously. Granted I am probably inordinately mad.

>>47580789
I was thinking of having it go slow with unwinding clock and then if shit got real then crank it up with infinite mana and then rapid fire the cannon on my turn.

Without using infinite life strats, I think the highest I've gotten is ~10 000 life and send in with 480 480/480
