My tutor is a kindly, nomadic druid who took a liking to me when I offered him the usage of my abode and a share of my food when I saw him looking poorly by the roadside.
After he recovered from his ill health, he offered to teach me his magic if I was willing to travel as his companion since he had noticed I had the potential to be a spellcaster during his stay. I agreed immediately, and discovered I had a knack for the manipulation of elements and health related spells over the next two years.
Eventually I learned he was a nomad because he had, in his youth, learned a dark and forbidden abyssal spell after finding an old tome detailing it - one which allowed him to dominate the will of any living creature utterly. His peers were sickened by such a depraved spell, and so he left to roam the wilds and avoid his shame.
Years later, he would teach me this spell before we parted ways; warning me that while it was a disgusting and depraved ability, it was one I might find myself in need of one day either to protect myself or others, and he was loathe to leave me - his trusted friend - possibly unprepared.
After this, he became a hermit and dedicated himself to the protection of a forest far from civilization that was rich with magic and rare creatures, while I took up the mantle of an adventurer in order to broaden my horizons even more, and use my powers for a good cause as I did so.

I was a commoner, born in poverty and disease like so many others in this era. I adopted a pseudo-nomadic lifestyle after the death of my family to plague, and travelled from town to town pedalling scrap metal and other goods I scavenged or robbed from graves and ruins on my journeys.
I found a soulstone containing an ancient demon in the run down husk of a castle after a decade of this meandering lifestyle, one who promised me power and glory if I would only destroy the descendants of those who had sealed her centuries ago.
Sure enough, she trained me well - instructing me in how to summon the mightiest of beasts, how to rend the power of my foes, and how to conquer death itself. In return, when I was sure she had taught me all she could, I handed her stone into the church for safe keeping - and was rewarded handsomely for my efforts by them and the local lord (descendant of the hero who vanquished her), with money and a countryside homestead along with renown for my piety in denying her dark seduction.
None knowing of my power, I grew to be a fairly successful farmer through the use of my skeletal labour force - ending up quite wealthy in the process.
I eventually hired common men to till my soil and reap my crop to hide how I could maintain such an expansive farmstead, and now travel to distant foreign lands frequently for leisure - and to offer my services to mercenary companies, if they would pay the right price and respect the secracy of my identity.
It's a shame for her nobody taught that demon the poor often value money more than power, but oh well. It was her own fault for thinking I'd risk my life to avenge her just to honour a half-hearted promise.

My mentor and I spend our time traveling, adventuring, getting rich, discovering powerful artifacts, and learning new magic spells.
By combining my shapeshifting, powers and the To Rust spell I can destroy my opponents equipment while in disguise then finish him off by transforming into a monster, pelting him with rocks, or melting him in lava,
My meterioric spells are for taking down opponents non lethally, for whenever I'm trying to collect a bounty alive or get through somewhere without killing anyone.
Shapeshift is my favorite spell just because of all the different things you can do with it. I can sneak into places as a fly, defeat groups of enemies by changing into a dragon, travel underwater by transforming into a fish, and just imagine the possibilities of combining it with something like Speed or Ghost Form.

Other gifts are not that useful, and i am too paranoid to agree to forever host a spirit without a way to control it and to be at her mercy. Who knows if i would turn out the same way the previous guy did, whant to take insurance. If you're the uploader, I would generally prefer a at least the option to take one or two more Allies or Rivals (or perhaps a lifting of the restriction?). One additional Rival for one Ally seems fine, but the fact that you only get one instead of two seems a bit difficult considering how many people everybody meets in Pokemon World.
