Yep. Forgot to update the PVC.

Why does your runner run, /srg/?
What draws/forces them into the business?
>>
I remember there was a lot of debate on the use of Touch based spells through a cyberlimb, that had a grappling hand.

Was there ever anything definitive on that discussion? Or was it just "DM discretion"?
>>
>>47196928

A few years ago his parents up and vanished. No trace. He couldn't find them through magical nor mundane means. Sure, they could be dead, but he can't find bodies either. He wants answers and that's all.
>>
>>47196928
Years ago, he was backstabbed by a rival and sent on a suicide mission that he survived. He had to drop off the radar completely after that.

At first he ran just to survive. Then he ran for money, the cold dream of ever getting payback and revenge keeping him going. Now he still runs for money, but he puts it aside for his adoptive kid; try to provide the both of them with a better life.
While still keeping under the radar himself, which isn't easy and costs a lot. But he's now happier than he's been in years.
>>
>>47196942
I always operate under the idea that anything you spend essence on can be used for the purposes of casting. Which does make burnouts a little more powerful than their completely natural peers even though their magical power is stunted.
>>
>>47196942
DM's discretion.
>>

The smallish business she worked for got Run on while a high ranking vory boss was there getting a pedicure and someone working there was in on it, so the Vory decided that they all needed to die.
So it was basically fade into the Shadows or die.
>>
>>47196942
Any cyberware currently connected to you (ie; costing essence) is considered a part of you for the purpose of casting spells. Cybereyes can be used to see for spells (unless removed; see ocular drone), cyberlimbs can be used to touch for spells.
>>
My players blew it all up.

They merely had to go to the NeoNET local headquarters, get their paycheck, pat their pet dolphin and leave. They could have left their Johnson get dragged by elite CorpSec for being a backstabbing bitch.

Instead of that they pillaged chemistry labs for makeshift explosives and assorted goodies, killed the security and let a CFD-infected dragon terrorist loose to cover their tracks.

Plus they stole about 3 millions in used ware, and a deck.
>>
>>47197218
I honestly fail to see the problem. Maybe releasing the dragon wasn't the smartest of idea, but that's only assumed it can get traced back to them.

Okay, they'll have to play it smart and fuck off to enjoy their money somewhere very far away from the place they unloaded their loot on the black market. Not that big of a deal with 3M nuyen in their pockets.
>>
>>47197333
There is no problem, it's just that the story will become a bit more gritty.

The bodies aren't chopped for the 'ware yet, and apparently they want to go back and get their dolphin.

Aspected Lodge gives a bonus to creating alchemy items, and you can make a pouch/container that prevents the preparations from decaying.

So other than the catfolk and the loli magical realm guys on /srg/ how many other people have either magical realm or other "mature content" in their games. I assume every game of SR has lots of murder and ultraviolence so you can probably just talk about the standard Sin City ninja hooker shit that just about everyone seems to use.
>>
>>47198642
It comes up when it comes up.
Last session, our scummy Raven shaman used Control Emotions combined with the line "have you ever wanted to fuck a cyborg" to lure a security guard into the storage room they were breaking into through using the team's street sammy, and it got so far as the sucker getting his hand on her synthskin-less cybertorso before the street sammy socked his head back into the wall.
What followed was a short but engaged discourse on exactly what functions come with what grades of cyberware, and why you want to buy synthskin for your cybertorso.
>>
>>47198642
There's sex and sometimes love in my games, all implied or fade to black, trough. I don't encourage them but I see no reason not to let them happen.

Depending on the tone of the game, I put more or less dirty details in the game too. Like, having some of the meetings in a Berlusconi-themed strip club or the razorboy finding panties when rolling perception.
>>
>>47196928
The fucking Crypto Dragon Alien GMO conspiracy cleaned his bank account 'cause he knew too much. Running is the only job he can do to earn enough Nuyen to buy the metric tons of tinfoil needed to line his house with psychic-resistant material.
>>
>>47198691

Yeah, I'd say that some of the background elements come up a decent amount because meeting yakuza or mafia thugs at a strip club is relatively iconic and it also helps accentuate that sex is just another type of currency in the 6th world.

Seducing targets in order to gain access to a secure site or gain the ability to plant bugs or evidence isn't an everyday event but it does happen on occasion because it's a fairly standard story trope in noir detective stories.

I definitely don't delve to much into extreme exploitation unless I know that the group wants to explore that sort of storytelling. Yeah you might break up a bunraku smuggling operation but I generally avoid being overly graphic with either the violence or the abuse.

Even though other forms of exploitation would probably be horrifically commonplace in a cyberpunk dystopia I also try to avoid anything like KE officers routinely stopping an raping SINless NPCs. Yeah that sort of shit would probably happen all the fucking time in 2050-2075 but yeah no real need to explore that shit.

On the other hand nudity and sexuality and other aspects that most Americans are prudish about typically don't even get too much comment because it's more or less common place for Idoru and Simsense actors to basically do hardcore simsense. Otherwise any sex scene in a simsense would seem fake as fuck unless you are just mapping a stand-ins emotional and physical tracks on the simsense.

I always figured that simsense movies and stuff used doubles to generate the sensations, and were more oblique with the scenes; you get feelings of romance and lust, a whiff of candlewax and fur rugs, but not going the whole 9 yards, just like how flatvids used blankets and clever camera work to make it look real without actual penetration.

The simsense sex market is going strong, but I strongly doubt that you're having A-list actors putting out recordings of their sex scenes. If someone does that, it's the equivalent of taking pictures with that guy who does full-penetration photoshoots- shocking and desperate. Middle America may be gone, but the mentality is still out there.
>>
>>47196928

It was a Mafia debt, at first.
But now the adrenaline, the ludicrous amounts of nuyen, and the chance to leave the Barrens completely behind are the driving factors.

>>47198642
>catfolk
>magical realm

I'd argue that our game is magical realm free (but you probably wouldn't believe me).

As far as "mature content" goes, we've had:
>General Violence
>Light Torture
>Merciless Execution
>A "Rescue a Bunraku Girl" mission

So far, no sex (not even fade-to-black) involving PC's and I'm pretty sure that will continue.
>>
>>47198642
It does come up, but apart from the occasional coarse joke and/or sexy hijink; it's all fade-to-black.
>>

Maria Mercurial is incredibly well compensated to moan at the appropriate time when the generic actor stud protagonist is having sex with her.

If she doesn't want to do actual sex scenes she would sign onto different types of productions or just be a Trid star.

Is there a way to control someones actions through cyberware/hacking instead of by magic?

I want to have the corps treat some people as literal tools/machines to do their bidding. but the best I remember from the books are data-locks for johnny mnenomic data transport, or cranial bombs for the "do it or else" approach.
I'm interested in personafix chips but I don't know if those come in hitman flavor with all the firearm/explosive/martial arts experience and skills or are they just restricted to "minor" mental changes to imitate celebrities or sex workers.
>>
>>47199285
>to moan at the appropriate time
Well, if you are in a simsense of her getting fucked and she fakes it, you'll know pretty well she's faking it.
>>
>>47199389
You'd want a Personafix chip, skilljack, and skillwires.

Get 'em at a good rating, and boom. Instant hitman. Or translator. Or cook. Or thespian. Or parts maker. Or mechanic.
>>
>>47199389

You typically want to use a combination of P-fixes and Skillwires/Skillsofts.

P-fixes absolutely can come in hitman flavor. Check out the specialized BTL's on page 193 of Chrome Flesh for similar existing chips.

>>47199285
>>47199421
Your simsense experience is already throttled and controlled- that's the appeal of BTLs, they remove those locks. It's not a stretch to think that a studio with hundreds of millions of nuyen to play around with could substitute someone else's sensations into a scene, replacing her own, especially because I still think that they're not going to put hardcore sex into 'theatre release' style recordings.

Besides, entertainment divisions of corps would have a vested interest in designing disguised sim-recordings; not only could they make movies more convincing, they could alter the news as they wished with supposedly 'raw' simfootage.
>>
>>47199426
>tfw skillsofts are expensive
>tfw skillsoft subscriptions are expensive
i'm trying to decide which one to house rule. reduce activesoft cost, or make subscription costs yearly?
>>
>>47198887
As I recall, the whole deal with simsense actors is that they're capable of fully immersing themselves in their character to the point where their emotions reflect the character. Thus, the simsense recording is "genuine".

If anything, that puts them way above the level of the hacks we have in Hollywood today.
>>
>>47199719
They're supposed to be expensive, that way you can't just buy all the skills you need with nuyen and throw karma out the window.
>>
>>47199747
True, but that doesn't mean that they are making and distributing hardcore sex scenes in James Bond- Casino Royale (2071) (It's the 12 reboot).
>>
>>47198642
I had a character who was in the magical spa/relaxation/massage/health industry before being a Runner, which meant most of her spells were of the fluffy, not so useful sort (Stuff like Healthy Glow). There were a lot of "happy ending" jokes going around that were made accurate a few times when she was causing distractions.
>>
>>47199719
Well, if you're the Make-A-Hitman guy, then remember that somebody else is bankrolling it (although the skilljack did come down some in CF), and the company obviously doesn't pay for its own services.

Now, the person getting the stuff installed is probably under some very severe contracts, and is going to pay out several noses for it.

Or if the hitman stuff is hidden from them, then they're getting a slightly less nasty contract, but only because the implanter isn't expecting them to last long. Hell, they may plan on recycling the implants.

Skill points/Skill group points.

You can buy skills individually, or you can buy the entire group of related skills. Having skill group points helps you be more well-rounded because you can put one point into a group that you don't plan to use often (like Mechanic) to make sure you don't default, and then later on buy up individual skills within the group as you need them.

There's a PDF of advice in the pastebin. Use that, and get the Hayek sheets also in the pastebin.
>>
Can someone give me the rundown on making a "matrix level"?
I have two riggers and I need to get this down pat quickly (im trying but im just not getting it unfortunately)
>>
>>47200953

The numbers represent Skill Points and Skill Group points. The example character generation on page 92 shows how that works.

There's some very good tips for new GM's in the pastebin. You can also look at previous /srg/ threads in the site archive or 4plebs, because this comes up fairly regularly.
>>
>>47201007
What exactly are you trying to do and in what edition?
>>
>>47201007
If it's just riggers and neither one has modded their RCC to be able to hack (I.E. gave it an attack or sleaze attribute), then you can just describe the virtual tags on real things (occasionally things that can't be seen as advertising) and remind them to run silent until combat starts.

And possibly even then, because -2 dice penalty on matrix actions taken could be worth having to be searched for.

Keep in mind that most enemy deckers are going to go for marks instead of bricking. You need to be runner-tier or really lucky to make combat bricking something that's worthwhile.

So with that in mind, just mention some differences in views (smells and tastes if they're in VR), and hide a hacker if the enemy's at that level.

And if they fail, then at least one of the riggers will be able to see the guy and start a meat-side search.
>>
>>47201007

Ah okay, so if I'm getting what you're saying.

The Matrix is the map they are on and the differences are wifi connection ports/computers/things like that?
>>
>>47201172
And advertising that people may have put up. Or matrix side graffiti (which may also be meat-side if there's electronic paper put up).

And music that may be playing.

And one chucklehead that's set his security protocols badly and has all kinds of stuff showing that probably shouldn't be showing.
>>
>>47201229

Woo, time for flowcharts!

First, they need to see the device. If it's not Running Silent, then they'll need to roll Matrix Perception to spot it.

Next, they'll use the Hack on the Fly action or Brute Force action to get one or more marks on the device.

After they've got marks, then they can do the thing, jack out, and reboot their device so the internet police don't drop the hammer.

>>

Null sweat, chummer.

Make sure you look into Overwatch score, since that's something that gets done on your end.

Basically whenever the decker does an illegal action (marked by a G on the flowchart) you add the hits from the target's defense test to the decker's Overwatch Score. It also goes up by 2d6 every 15 minutes in-game (starting from their first illegal action).

If their Overwatch Score hits 40, then GOD (the internet police) will fuck their shit up. This is detailed on pace 231 and 232 of the Core book.

Heh. And I had a big post all keyed up until I had to cut it down.

So instead I'll offer this. The quick way to get a file is this - Matrix Perception to see if it's protected/has a databomb, get a mark on it (and only it), disarm bomb and remove protection (if needed, neither are illegal actions), and then Edit File to get a copy/erase it/both/something else.

You'll probably take a different route than this one, unless you're regularly after just one file in a device/host.

Have a big pig!

In the interests of disclosure, if the file you're after is in a device other than the one that the file owner is using, you'll want to get one mark on the owner's persona, and then use Spoof Command on the device that has the file or files. Have it Invite Mark to the hacker's persona (or somebody else's, you've got latitude here), and then accept the mark or marks with a Free Action. Then you can do all the security removal and stealing as legal actions.

This is a good trick for a pair of hackers, one gets the overwatch then immediately reboots once the other has accepted the marks.

I like that, perhaps corps have some sort of program for less "fortunate" workers, so that they could have a chance at a better life.

Sign a contract and the corp gets your body for a few years. they rig you up with their ware, your personality goes bye bye for a few years and suddenly 10 years later you come back with a massive pay check.

You might have a few more scars, or a new cyberlimb. or thanks to the fine print, the corp keeps the ware, leaving people damaged from having skill wires/jacks/limbs removed, or because there was a minor technical glitch 1 year into service they no longer are obligated to return your personality.

That's a huge investment, though. It's the way some bunraku parlours work, but a corp wouldn't go all-in on getting basic workers a full new personality. Easier to get a regular Joe and rig him with skillwires to do basic jobs, which is canonically a way they get cheap labour for long-term projects like factory work.

He runs for money to keep his upkeep running as he likes good lifestyle. Having more fake SINs than hooker STDs he can get pretty much everywhere. With his premium SIN he participates in high class mask parties and other incognito spectacularities and silently arranges jobs for him and his crew.

When he is not using his premium he is Matthew Carter, Ares low end office slave. It does help that he has multiple personalities which I asked for him to have, DM approved it by having right to switch those personalities at will. This has lead to fun situations when normally slick ladies charmer turns into awkward slick office worker mid conversation. Luckily for us DM handles the switch well and doesn't over use it or in wrong time.

Hand razors and a monowhip is pretty iconic.

I think hand razors are the minimum for classic razorgirl implant.

Hydraulic Jacks aren't the best for gofast (at least in 5e). You want Skimmers, Skates or digigrade legs to increase your base Running speed rather than using Jacks to pump your Sprinting tests.

How do I get my players to learn to change plans? They latch onto ideas and never want to let go. Last session they ended up with a 12-car Knight Errant high speed chase, because they were determined they would get this one particular wageslave's key card. Ended up shooting 7 innocents and 2 officers. Once the decker decided he was going to go into a infiltrated building as a mid-level manager and said that a deck wouldn't fit the persona, so left it at home (obviously couldn't do any decking and got frustrated). I'd use it as the downside for some Omegaware spinal implant, probably move-by-wire or Reaction Enhancers.

It's immediately obvious and should have some social penalties (a la SURGE) associated with it.

Alternatively, it's a casemod for some kind of skin, torso, or spine 'ware. I could see it as Dermal Plating or a cybertorso as you already mentioned.

Ah. That makes sense. Viewing the mission like an MMO raid is a recipe for disaster. Maybe have them watch a few good heist movies to see the mindset they should be emulating? It's not something that's easy to positively reinforce if they're never flexible in the first place.

Tell them to make new characters.

Don't immediately off the old ones. Just good practice to have guys in reserve. Also it sends a message that their "heros" can die and can be replaced, so if they want to not have to reintroduce themselves every few sessions they should be a little more cautious of the GMs play style.

Caution: this may cheapen the threat of death for the player, which can make their PC more suicidal. If this occurs see a doctor.

one character I've always wanted to do is a semi-amnesiac street samurai. He has vague recollections of his past before something happened that had him get smacked around and left for dead, including a wife/girlfriend and daughter, and a menacing figure taking them away. Naturally, he figures they were his family and the man kidnapped them, arranging to have the PC killed so he could take them for his own.

PC enters the business to find his beloved and their little girl, but over time evidence piles up that he may be confusing a BTL/Simsense scenario with his actual memories. Things get more complicated when he sees a woman and child who are spot on for his wife and child in passing, and they're with this corporate douche.

I see it working out that they were just actors in the simsense chip he had confused with actual memories, or he was a simsense addict and did actually have a wife and child but they were taken by an old friend who made it up in the corp world. He dies, of course, whether by security taking down teh crazed chiphead who's been terrorizing the nice family or finally rescuing his beloved and child.

>They're greeted by an Ares brand AR girlfriend program who resembles Fio from Metal Slug
>He taught her to recognize the team in case they ever wanted to come over to hang out

OK /srg/ I've got some opinions and you all have to listen to them now.

Shadowrun is possible my favourite setting for a tabletop. It's versatile, it can be whatever you want it to be and has great scope for creativity while also allowing my players to connect to and feel like part of the world (GM). We also play DnD & the Star Wars RPG but neither have the same ease of connection to the world.

BUT.

The rules for shadowrun are absolute trash. I realise this is a place for people who like the game so this may be an unpopular opinion, but they are obtuse, unnecessarily complicated and more focused on a realistic gaming experience than an enjoyable one. I love glitches, edge, and the initiative system. Skill checks can take a while but they do give an idea of realistic challenges which is fine. But combat. Having to mathematically calculate up to three dice pools each ATTACK plus modifiers completely kills the pacing of any fight the players get in. Not to mention having a completely different but equally obtuse system to learn for the matrix and magic. Until now I've just fudged the rolls and sometimes arbitrarily determined outcomes so that my players don't get bored and lose interest.

I'm currently working on converting shadowrun to a system which uses the Star Wars dice. For those who haven't played it, the SWRPG has a few similar concepts in terms of rules to SR (opposed tests, the idea that you can pass a check but still fuck something up, etc.) but the rules are so intuitive and fast-paced, and much easier to include players in. Would anyone be interested in using this system? If not, what do you do to use the SR rules? Is it actually as fast-paced as other RPGs if players learn the rules and have their own dice?

>inb4 herolab
it helps a bit but combat is still complex & slow

TL;DR: The SR combat rules kinda suck, takes too long and spoils pacing, I'm planning to convert SR rules to a simpler system using SWRPG rules/dice, whaddya think?

If you try to run a used-ware business in addition to running, that's an entirely different league, with entirely different risks and rewards (you might piss off the Yaks running, you definitely will piss them off if you start cutting into their market).

But any character /srg/ has made could get a job in a corp based on their skills alone; a good job, with good money, benefits and security. But because of personality flaws and personal failings, they end up in the shadows. Look at how many responses to >>47196928 are on the lines of 'lost my real job due to making someone angry, had to become a criminal to survive.' It's not a comfy life, and it's not a life any sane person would choose.
>>
What's the sluttiest a shadowrun PC is allowed to be before being unplayable in a game?
>>
I had an idea for a runner/plot point. Thought i'd run it pass some anon first.

So some Corp mega exec decides to have a child heir to one day replace him in retirement. So he goes about having a child artificially. A genetically perfect child with the best bioware/genetech money can buy that is useful for the executive position.
Unfortunately at some point there is a flaw that develops in the child, so the exec wants to restart and the have the child incinerated because he doesn't need 2 heirs and can't let rival corps get a hold of his/her brain.
So some shadow runners are sent by rival Corp to retrieve them alive and make sure the Corp believes they were incinerated without any problems.
Runners win, but have a crisis of conscience and leave the child with a nice troll who lives in the sewers under the slums. Runners say child is now ashes, rival Corp says they are disappointed and that they would never deal with them again.

Honestly sounds like someone with good decking ware but not enough money for good decking gear. Might just keep this as a potential mission for players instead of a character backstory

My group's combats don't feel much different in timescale than our Pathfinder combats.

No. I acknowledge that runners are usually unsuited for regular society, and that it's far more likely for them to stay enmeshed in the shadows until they die. OK, here's the only valuable nugget I can pull out of this insanity:

>Here's the thing: Ghostwalker has been trying to kill Daviar since he woke up, and at "some point" she realized that Dunkelzahn knew that as well. He planned for it, and her death was one of those events his own death put into motion, that she was never his protege or legacy; she was merely a caretaker before Ghostwalker returned and claimed what is rightfully his. Knowing this, and becoming aware of the Horrors and seeing his own plans up close when taking all things into consideration from having access to his entire hoard and to hints and information about what his goals appeared to be, she ceased being respectful of his goals and plans. And so given what she knows and given her own experiences and beliefs, she decided to forge her own path.

I could use this as a GM, but this rest reads like someone who took too much deepweed while still balls-deep in their Daviar sexdoll.

>Harlequin is the First Chancellor of Hope, the avatar for the force and magic of Hope that Aina became when she died to protect her allies and the DeeCee Sprawl from Ghostwalker's actions in closing the Rift when he went to rescue Zebulon in the metaplanes.

>Aina became like an Earthdawn Passion or a Mentor Spirit, becoming the manifestation of Hope once her body was destroyed and her millennias-long corruption separated from her body and soul. She is the first (hopefully) of a small group of beneficial spirits that are emerging to confront the legions of destructive, malicious, and even benignly evil magic that threatens to corrupt, enslave, and even destroy metahumanity.

>Even Puck has been touched by her already, as much as he can be since he's a technomancer, and he is assisting Harley to search for others like themselves.

I can't believe it, Meier is going full End Times. However, he is a kami with shrines in all kinds of Renraku facilities and living quarters. I think our characters would get along.

not the 1890 ghostdance war. im talking about the ritual in 2017 created by Daniel Howling Coyote that's sort of why I said incident.that and im still reading up on the fluff so I was a bit unsure if their were any conflicts after the ritual or if it was just straight to the treaty of Denver so I hedged my bets

>>
>>47204194
Funny thing, in 5th, CGL says bullets can't be preparations because the rifling in the barrel damages them.

As I understand it, you can get around this by using APDS rounds and just using the penetrator as the preparation, since the sabot is the only thing damaged when firing.

There we go, nice and rules legal.
>>
>>47210943
Can you put buckshot in a capsule inside the hull to the same effect? Or wax slugs?
>>
>>47211055

I would assume anything inside a capsule would be fine, but capsules use light pistol range despite what you put in them.

I'd stick with APDS, just for the range advantage. I also have my doubts about wax slugs, as the rules claim even smoothbores damage rounds coming out, regardless as to whether slug or flechette.

That said, there are always crossbows, and I do wonder what an alchemist could do using a grenade as a preparation.
>>
>>47210943
>>47211055
>>47211116
There is one option for alchemical preparations with firearms.

>Special musket balls are used—they’re made of steel instead of lead, and deep engraving is usually used to set the enchantment.
>>
I really want to make an alchemist. Just the idea of enchanting and shit always seemed cool to me. Anyone can cast spells, it's basically boring at this point.

Ritual magic has a lot of potential, but I haven't had a good team it would work with before. Too impulsive
>>
>>47211138
Actually, make that two, (three if you count bows & crossbows) but the other is just theatricality while using a preparation.

>Some alchemists have taken to enchanting empty cartridges and loading them into their gun. It should be noted that the spells aren’t ired by the gun’s hammer coming down but by a mental command trigger.

>While not as long range, as powerful, or as rapid-iring as guns, bows are silent and extremely powerful in the hands of an alchemist. If an arrow fails to pierce a mark’s armor, the spell will still trigger on their aura if it is a contact trigger preparation or can be trig- gered with a command word.

Both of these are 100% effective, muskets are 50% effective ("these balls have about an even chance of retaining an enchantment after being fired"), and anything else is more of a hail mary pass than an attempt you expect to work.
>>
>>47211116
Not a capsule round's capsule, but just something to prevent any etching or mark on each pellet from being damaged until it exits the barrel. Eight spells at once.
Wax slugs are the same idea, if each pellet is encased in a body of wax, they won't lose the markings.
>>
>>47211138
>>47211211

Yeah, but if you use the APDS workaround you don't have to deal with the issues of muzzle-loaders, still get more range, and potential full-auto goodness depending on what gun you choose.
>>
>>47211211
>Enchanting blanks
I fail to see what purpose this would serve other than making a fireball appear in your guns.
>>
>>47211284
I have my doubts it'd be allowed by your GM. And wax slugs are very much contra-indicated for anything other than break or pump-action shotties. The wax can do bad things to actions.

Or worse, melt in the mag or drum if you're in a too-hot area/mages get a little frisky with fire damage.
>>
>>47211287
Also, they're still APDS, so that's something pretty nice on it's own.
>>
>>47211293

It's just style. Lets you maybe pretend to have super cool experimental guns instead of looking like a mage. This could be important if you're an alchemy aspected magician.
>>
>>47211205
Play a mundane character with an alchemist contact. Learn Arcana and buy [Spirit] Calling ritual spells for any given type of spirit you want to summon. Make sure your character can recognise when the wrong spirit type has answered, know how to negotiate spirit deals without getting stuck with a pact, and keep a backup in case shit goes seriously wrong.

With enough time and effort, you should have some serious spirit realm connections and favours owed, despite being a mere mortal.
>>
>>47211287

What is VR like? If UV hosts give you that Matrix life-like feeling, is VR like being in an episode of Reboot?
>>
>>47211605
Depends on the quality of VR, which mostly depends on processing power.
It's anything from being in an 80s wire-mesh fever dream (Which can be a functionally infinite virtual space due to the extremely low system requirements) to completely, 100% realistic (In a very small virtual area, like a single emulated room)
Stylistic choices can also affect it, obviously. Some VR locations might purposefully make it seem fake, while others might use special lighting and effects to make it seem more real.
>>
>>47211605

I kinda pictured it was like Log Horizon
>>
>>47211713
>which mostly depends on processing power

The new wireless Matrix protocols make most wireless device part of a cloud computing mesh network that lets smaller devices offload processing onto idle devices around them, so it's not always just the power of your VR device, but the density of other devices around you.

So, can jumping into a vehicle give you senses you previously didn't have?

Like, say you're blind and deaf, but due to some stroke of luck, someone gave you an RCC, and you jump into a drone. The drone has a microphone, and cameras, that simulate sight and sound.

Can you actually use these senses now?
>>
>>47211933
Depends on whether your lack of sense is physical or psychosomatic.
If you're blind because your eyes physically don't work, then yes, you can now see (And you could just get your eyes replaced or fixed, really). If you're blind because there's something wrong in your brain and it can't process visual input, then no, you can't see.
>>
>>47211933
That would depend on whether your blindness and/or deafness is curable with cybernetics or not.

If yes; yes. If no; then tough luck!
>>
>>47211933
Depends on if you have the Blind or Deaf qualities. The general idea is that medical science has advanced to the point where the only way you can be blind is if your brain literally cannot process vision. If you're blind because you have no/faulty eyes (IE Reduced Senses for ghouls) then jumping in will work fine.

tl;dr you can't be a blind rigger and get free points from the negative quality. That's reserved for Allergy(Soykaf).
>>
>>47211933

The Blind negative quality pretty much forbids any visual input including cybereyes (it's a brain problem). I assume that would preclude other external visual input, including drone cameras.

It's not explicit that Deaf works the same way, but considering it's also a 15 karma negative quality, I'd rule it similarly.
>>

>Reduced Senses

If he's got vehicles, he can ignore Noise by just being in a real close van or car to where his drones are operating.

As for bedridden vegetable, a combination of qualities like Asthma, Paraplegic, Aged, Infirm, or Unsteady Hands could get you a similar feel for a weak-bodied escapist rigger.

Some of the negative Metagenic Qualities (which can be taken even by non-SURGE characters) would also be good. Progeria, Adiposis, and Impaired Attribute can all be contribute here.

You might even consider a real freaky looking SURGE victim who prefers to interact via the Matrix or anthrodrones.
