Just pondering, how many of you people often lend decks to other players who have none when you play?

I routinely play with friends where only myself and one other person of us actually have decks, so we end up sharing the same pool of decks between ourselves

Right now I use Krosan grip, unravel the Aether and reclamation sage since I play Marath although in my playgroup I'm usually more worried about enchantments.

Well considering the first one gave EDH Brago, Grenzo, Marchesa, Muzzio, Selvala and all of the Will of the Council cards as well as the dethrone mechanic it's a pretty safe bet there's gonna be some nice EDH cards in there

Is it a good idea to buy the pre-constructed commander decks if you have no magic cards?

I was thinking of buying the 2013 and 2015 commander decks.

yes, its much easier and really boosts your collection size, buying singles can be cheaper but if you want to play magic for a long time getting 100 good quality newly printed cards new condition cards matters. Ive seen old lim duls vaults and they dont have a lot of cardboard strength left in them compared to my 2013 one.

It strikes me as a red-herring. Either my opponent will experience the salt, or the game will be resolved and he'll have little net impact. Giving him hexproof would be disgusting, same with shroud or indestructible. I thought the optimal timing would be:
>flash him during the endstep of the turn before mine
>snag the card draw and the discard on at least one guy
>pray for some evasion in the 7 cards he nets me

Any help is appreciated.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/oona-deck-1/
>>
>>46912287
I'm pretty sure she's only really used as a dump for infinite mana in the command zone. faeries don't really have enough lords to make a tribal deck run as far as I'm aware.
>>
>>46912287
Basalt Monolith so you can be a huge piece of shit with Rings and Oona?

>>46912287
You either go degenerate infinite mana +tutor oona, or you go fairie tribal.

OOOOOOooooooohhhhh. yes, that's happening.
>>
>>46912440
I'm just not a fan of tutoring, personally. One or two tutors is fine, max. Any more I dislike. I don't think it's unfair, by any means. Just my opinion. And idk infinite mana oona is like playing against oloro pillowfort, you've seen it one too many times.
>>
>>46912402
I was looking into a Faerie deck a while ago, and I still might make one with Wydwen, I love the flavor of a faerie darting in and out of the battlefield dodging removal and such, but obviously she doesn't play well with swords and such. I ended up with a list full of little ticks of damage and some discard, like the UB counter noncreature and they lose life.
>>
>>46912528
Ah I think I understand where you're coming from. Thanks for the advice.

>>46912548
Wydwen is awesome, but I gotta have Oona be the commander. And yeah something I notice is that the faeries is that while they're pretty weak their abilities are what counts. At this point I feel like the deck may have to rely on heavy control enchantments while faeries mess with things. still not sure.
>>
>>46912287

I have no magic cards at all. I like trying new decks and playing with different cards. I thought about improving one deck but I think I might get bored of it and would rather spend the money at first to get a wide collection of different decks.

I don't really know which one I like to play. I want the cards but it seems expensive. I can get the 10 decks for $300 for 1000 cards.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not.

>>
>>46911533
100% yes. They're one of the few preconstructed deck products that are well made at all, with any cards of value in them.

It's how I started. It introduced me to mechanics and strategies I didn't know about. I'd see an awesome card like Gisela, and then look at Innistrad block for cards that might have synergy with her. I don't think I could have gotten into commander without a precon to ease me into it.

it's different for everyone, but actually having a deck that is fun and isn't completely worthless out of the box is very helpful, and just the construction of the deck itself teaches you how to build an EDH deck from scratch

It really isn't.

Unless the image is huge, you wouldn't be able to read all the cards. If you can't read the cards, there's no point to having all the cards pictured.

A brief synopsis of the deck is fine. if it gets people interested, they'll ask for the list,
>>

You don't need to show every card, just put it in a stack with the commander on top face up like everyone who posts actual pictures in this thread.

It becomes "who can outspend the other" and games become degenerate shitfests where someone always combos off by like turn 5 and everyone else does nothing or you get horrible stalemates from all the control or stax or lockdowns.

Play fun but not OP commanders and build competitively. It's the best time.

Dumb question

Say I have Zurgo on board, and he's equipped with literally all five Swords and an Assault Suit. My opponent controls him and he's attacking another opponent.

Because I still control the artifacts it should affect me and not the current controller, right?

>212.2k An Equipment's controller is separate from the equipped creature's controller; the two need not be the same. Changing control of the creature doesn't change control of the Equipment, and vice versa. Only the Equipment's controller can play its abilities. However, if the Equipment adds an ability to the equipped creature (with "gains" or "has"), the equipped creature's controller is the only one who can play that ability.

If you want to have a shit load of rotating decks, getting 10 precons is an ok way to do it.

If you want to play with other people who have decks, you are probably going to find that precons don't stand up to them very well.

I would strongly suggest that if you want a small roster of decks, get 5ish, then leave yours however much money left over to buy singles and improve. Just the cheapest shit suggested on http://edhrec.com/ would be enough.

Unmodified precons aren't mindblowing, and buying them for card value is likewise a so-so proposition. They're an ok place to start though. So get a few that most catch your eye, give em a spin, and see what they need.

This suddenly turns a sac outlet like KCI or Ashnod's into some wack bullshit. Mimic Vat + KCI + Dross Scorpion +Wurmcoil or Myr Battlesphere into infinite hasty dudes.
Basically if you make artifact creatures at all, Dross Scorpion turns artifact creatures into untaps which, inevitably, means you have more creatures.
my favorite one is salvaging station + Lotus Petal or any 0 cost artifact in grave + Karn + Dross Scorpion + any artifact which produces 2 or more mana but it's generally a house if you run artifact creatures or plan on turning artifacts into creatures.

Just to clarify, I'm talking about multiplayer games (scooping guy isn't last opponent on the table), and in situations where doing damage matters, for example creatures with lifelink or triggers off combat damage.
>>
>>46926349
If they kill themselves with abilities like Necropotence, that's annoying, but there are worse things. At least they are ready to do it within the context of the game. If they just concede before someone gets their triggers, that's petty and spiteful and I wouldn't want to play with them.
>>
>>46926245
Doesn't have to be. I make different decks for different "power levels" and make sure to clarify before the game what sort of degeneracy is ok.

Only gotta ruination a guy's casual 5 colour deck once to realize there are limits to what is reasonable with any given playerbase
>>
>>46917027
Similar question. If five creatures with lifelink hit, and gain five lots of life, is that five seperate karlov triggers or one big lump lifegain?
>>
>>46926539
They are each their own instance of lifegain. Karlov triggers five times.
>>
>>46926539
Also keep in mind that righteous confluence, if set to lifegain multiple times counts as multiple instances of lifegain. Too expensive for that to be the main use, but if you really need something exiled...
>>
>>46925456

Typically if someone scoops in response to getting attacked we would just treat it like the attack went through unblocked.

Now we can scoop only as a sorcery speed so the problem is solved (one of my guys loses morale so hard and will scoop if there's a chance he'll lose in the next 5 rounds).

You do know that's not the name anymore, right? There was a conspiracy, and Brago got assassinated before the set was released. Wizards actually reduced the number of cards in the set by one when it happened.
>>
>>46926449
So you purposely play bad.
>>
>>46927067
>assassinating a ghost
>now he's double dead
>>
>>46927105
Not that guy, but choosing to play a weaker deck is very different than choosing to make bad plays.
I have a tuned combo deck that I will break out when we're going all out, and I've got other decks that are varying degrees of jank that I will play against other jank. I'm not about to stop short of taking a win when I see it, whatever I am playing, but games with close power levels where your play choices matter are more fun than games where you combo out or lockout your opponents essentially by default due to a lower curve/better mana and tutors.
>>
>>46926946
Sorcery speed scooping is bad too. What about infinite turn combos? What about four horsemen combo? What about unstoppable loops, like sporemound + life and limb?
>>
>>46927121
He was a spirit tho. Maybe he becomes now a Zombie Spirit. Or maybe he gets a body and becomes a human? Is that a double negative?
>>
>>46927353
Spirit in Magic is used interchangeably for ghosts and animist spirits. Brago was at one point a living king, then died, then came back to be a ghost king through magic used by the Custodi.
Now he's been assassinated, again, and is double dead.

>>46927986
You misunderstand. As I stated, this is for situation, when it's in middle of a multiplayer match, and there is still some opponents left, and it's a meaningful situation, for example Feast&Famine trigger, or lifelink.
It's not about being a sore winner, since they haven't won yet.
If it were a duel or last opponent, it wouldn't matter, as it doesn't matter if you win by inch or a mile.
I hate sore losers who are salty enough to ruin the game for others just because they lost.
>>
>>46928242
>Ruin the game for others
You're allowed to concede at any time. That's part of the rules. You don't like it, that's fine. But you don't get to act like they're doing something wrong.
>>
>>46928121
You're better off with any other tutor than ring of three wishes though. Use Dark Revelation instead, or planar portal, if you feel like you need repeatable tutors.
>>
>>46928242
>muh honor
Anon, they can concede any time they want. Usually there is a house rule that says you can only concede during the beginning or at the end of a phase. For example, if someone wiped your field before combat step, you're tapped out, and he would swing for the game, you can concede when he initiates combat but before he declares attackers, so that he could attack someone else in your place, or after combat resolves because they've probably invested a significant portion of their board to killing you.
>>
>>46928282
Playing politics/kingmaker with your concession is just poor sportsmanship and good grounds to ask someone to leave your playgroup, regardless of whether they are actually breaking any rules.
>>
>>46928242
To be honest, it sounds to me like you're they salty one.
>WAAAAAH I WANT MY TRIGGER
You took someone out of the game. That's a lot bigger than any trigger. If you're trying to win them scooping just makes it that much easier for you, as now there's no chance that they come out of nowhere to win while you're dealing with the others. Your goal is to kill everyone, and someone just did your job for you. What's the problem?
>>
>>46928282
Sure, that's true. I have ended up abusing others trigger happy scooping, and I get satisfaction usually for forcing them to scoop, even though it's fun for maybe two or so times.
If scooping becomes a regular occurrence to the point of annoyance, I'm just gonna play with less salty people, after all, there exists people that aren't babies in my LGS.
>>
>>46928242
Fuck yeah I'll concede if I'm about to get knocked out to stop them from getting lifelink and shit. Especially if they need it to survive against another player that's poised to win.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>>
>>46928390
Usually I don't care, but the point here is to assume that you're gonna need that life from lifelink or the untapped lands from Feast and Famine.
Scooping in such a meaningful situation is poor sportmanship, which by the way is the sole reason why Trade Secrets is banned.
>>
>>46928377
That's fine that you feel that way, but not everyone agrees with that. Every group I've ever played with had no problem with players scooping whenever. If anything, it allows a player to affect a game they otherwise had little hand in.
