Fuck off.
>>
>>46732895
How competitive can a casual format be?
>>
I want to go back to "modern is budget legacy".
>>
>>46732992
Utterly broken because of no banlist if you're retarded enough to buy these cards.
Not even close to competitive if you're poor. There's no reason to play casual magic.

Yet you're posting in the modern thread
>>
>>46732992
Very competitive. In MTG the term casual just means it's a non-format playgroup. My kitchen table has Legacy decks that lose to homebrews all the time.
>>
>>46732895
Some thopter build is probably the best deck right now.

I currently play infect. I find is a bit stale, but I love me some free wins. looking for something else to build.

What is everyone else playing?

I disagree. A kitchen table group full of shitbrews and with no one knowing how to abuse things like Dark Ritual properly can be quite fun.

It must be Burn, because half of the last thread cried about how unfair it was.

Do you guys think a card like this >>46732479 would make burn actually take skill? As in, they have to be good at the game in order to play around it.

so your issue isn't with burn, it's with people playing burn wrong and still winning?
>>
>>46732776 #
>when to fetch and what to fetch for
Your fetch for the mana necessary to cast the cards in your hand, or of you have a seering blaze, you fetch then
>>46732776 #
>when to hold out and when to be super aggressive
Are they playing white or green? No? Okay well then play super agressive.

Glad we have finally dug deep into the intricacies and intense mental strength needed to play burn.
>>
>>46734237
Not him. It's a very linear deck that pop ups everywhere.
>>
>>46734237
My issue is waiting all week to go to fnm, then having to play 5 minutes of magic against some faggot autistic fuck playing burn every single week. It's no fun to play against, you can't even begin to tell me that it is.
>>
Everyone getting angry about playing burn makes me want to play it to be honest
>>
>>46734293
Affinity vs burn is actually pretty fun.
>>
>>46734237

Seems like his issue is with combo decks.
>>
>>46734298
>I intentionally want to not have fun and make other people not have fun to fuel my own retarded desires of others suffering.
This is the very definition of retardation, I'm sure you know.
>>
>>46734366
Thanks for the (You), here's one in return
>>
>>46734310
Yeah, but affinity costs 1000 plus, so not everyone and his retarded brother plays it at fnm, cause budget burn is a lot closer to the good burn deck, when budget affinity is utter shit.
>>
>>46734334
Nah, seems like his issue is with burn.
>>
>>46734405
>affinity costs 1000 plus
Dam son. Cost me maybe $250 to put together.
>>
>>46734279
It's a tier one deck that is relatively cheap to start building before splashing colors, do you get mad when you have to play against any popular deck?>>46734293
5 minutes? Are you losing to burn in 5 minutes?

That sounds absurd to be honest, I play burn at my fnm and even in my good match ups a match will take a solid 15-20 minutes (disregarding the nut draw)

Maybe you just need to sideboard better, what deck do you play?
>>
>>46734498
Sounds more like you or the opponent are slow playing.
I only hate playing against Burn and Infect since they're so uninteractive and show up all the time. Grishoalbrand plays by itself, but it's at least fun to watch and nowhere near as common as those decks.
>>
>>46734310
Do you mean fun as in its a pretty equal match and its enjoyable to play or that affinity is a really good match against burn?

I love playing against infect with burn, I'd say it's one of the only matches that is near exactly 50/50 aside from mirror matches

>>46734298

It's the only reason I still play it. Sometimes I'm thinking of playing some shitbrew like Norin Sisters but see Autismo, Lord of Salt enter the store and go with Burn instead. It's great to hear him mumble something about skill after he goes 2-0.
>>
>>46734498
I actually don't lose to burn at all. I pay UWr control and I can't even remember the last time I lost to an autistic burn player.
>>
>>46734595
What about neurotypical burn players?
>>
>>46734562

>2-0

0-2*
>>
>>46734554
It's favored favored affinity, but burn can win games. The matchups are enjoyable to play in any case.
>>
>>46734608
If I ever meet one I'm sure I'll beat him too.
>>
>>46734550
Ideally burn is ininteractive, sure I would love to get 7 burn spells off undisturbed every game, but that nearly never happens.

burn is very interactive against its bad match ups, it's only non interactive in its ideal matches

Jund is kind of in the middle to be honest, most of the stuff in your deck we'd want to bolt are out of range and trying to kill off finks is just a losing game.
I think it generally is better to just try to kill you before you kill us

It's a pretty weird match up
>>
>>46734721

Second of all, that'd actually be viable, I'd play it in a deck, probably be broken though. Just 4 elks, 4 pacts, and enough shit to cast on him to make him lethal. And like, ramp and shit. Seems good to me.

1x Breeding Pool
3x Darkslick Shores
2x Darksteel Citadel
2x Island
2x Misty Rainforest
4x Polluted Delta
2x Sunken Ruins
1x Swamp
1x Verdant Catacombs
4x Watery Grave
Instant (16)
3x Abrupt Decay
3x Dismember
4x Mana Leak
2x Remand
4x Thirst for Knowledge
Planeswalker (4)
4x Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
Artifact (12)
1x Batterskull
4x Chalice of the Void
3x Sword of the Meek
4x Thopter Foundry
Sorcery (2)
2x Damnation
Creature (3)
3x Spellskite

Have you guys ever had your opponent try to cheat?

Last FNM I was playing against someone and i was super tired, like to the point of mental degradation, and after winning game 3, my opponent said "okay on to game 3".

for a good 5 minutes I was discussing with him whether or not we played 3 games and until he mentioned sideboarding, I had no clue how many games we had played.

I don't know if he did it intentionally but i feel like he often tries to fudge rules/games.

Wow, you remember something from last year that was posted daily? Steel trap you have there.
>>
>>46739085
I've honestly forgotten about game 1 sometimes when I play my hyper aggro deck, and then the next game is real slow. It happens.
>>
>>46738949
Issue I found with geist is, that it needs very expensive support to go with it (Namely snapcaster/restoration angel/celestial colonnade) to compensate the impact it has. Yes, it's good when it hits, but it's bad when it gets blocked. Therefore you have to go either UWB or UWR build to run good amount of discard/removal to keep the coast clear for him.

The enchantment plan wants to have threat on board quickly to get on with bump spells. Stalker is good, but it's not necessary when 1cmc hexproof guys are available. Therefore we get into established deck instead of geist shenanigans.

Decided to try this out, any thoughts?
4 Delver
4 Thing in the Ice
4 Path
4 Visions
4 Isochron Scepter
4 Vapor Snag
3 Echoing Truth
3 Mana Leak
2 Familiar's Ruse (UU, bounce a creature, counter target spell)
2 Deprive (As Ruse, but bounce a land instead of a creature)
2 Curse of Exhaustion
1 Ancestral Vision
4 Flooded Strand
4 Prairie Stream
7 Plains
9 Island

Sideboard:
2 Hurkyl's Recall
2 Supreme Verdict
2 Familiar's Ruse
2 Deprive
2 Stratus Dancer
2 Apostle's Blessing
2 Faith's Shield

I know I need the shocks in it, probably colonnades too, but I'm not sure what to put in the 15th sideboard slot. I'm also not sure which of my main spells should be 3 ofs and which should be 4 ofs.

You shouldn't be running ANY in that deck. Not only is Ruse a bad card, but it's a special kind of shitty in a deck that relies on flip cards for damage.

I think you guys are looking at the deck wrong. I literally do not care about dealing damage until roughly turn 15 or so. The entire point of the deck is to stop everything that the other player does. Familiar's Ruse is literally there so I have a hard counter that doesn't completely stunt my mana in the first few turns.

It is literally the only other option I have besides the land bouncing one. I have to have a 2 mana hard counter or the deck doesn't work. Just finished Kiki Chord and Grixis delver. Any anons who play those decks have general advice? My meta is diverse but there's a lot of infect and combo compared to the rest, so I'm shelving Skred for now. Also protip: Commune with Lava isn't good, for the few anons out there who have an interest in Skred. I tried it and every game it was irrelevant or win more (so, irrelevant).

>>
>>46744833
There's two ways you can go here. Grixis or esper.
Esper is shit cause you lose bolt and game closing is hard without it
Go Grixis. There's cute things you can do like kolaghan's command in response to a spell. Discard + return a discarded dragon then use the dragon to reveal off scorn to counter their spell.
>4 bolt
>3 k command
>4 ancestral visions
>3 scorn
>2 dispel
>2 spell snare
>3-4 terminate
>2 kolaghan storm fury
>1 thundermaw Hellkite
>2 sulimgar dragonlord
>3 snapcaster
>2 tasigur.
But if you go Grixis the standard Grixis build is just way better
>>

Hmm khologans would close the game so fast. I might try this familia. Ehh I don't need optimal I just need to bring back the dragon control feels. I also want to make a ub control deck with pearl Lake.

How does mono black fare in modern? Cards like Phyrexian Obliterate and such.

Pearl Lake is bad value. It's too slow against tron for what you need to do. If you want UB than either esper or tron is the way to go. Pearl Lake is cute but it's a slower aetherling

Hi guys. My English is not very good , so sorry for the bad language . It needed the money , so I sell all of their cards . Available there are 12 ( yes, I'm an idiot ) Pauper decks , all in boxes and sleeves, decks competitive level, complete (Kuldotha Jeskai, MBC, BURN, Reality Acid, Stompy and many others). I listen to offers for the purchase of all at once. Ready to conduct communication by mail , ready to make a discount. In addition Pauper decks also give you for free playset of Simian Spirit guide and playset of manaformoza.

I'm not sure how grixis delver is in this meta, but it should have a good match up against Infect. You just have to play the control role. Be patient and always keep up a kill/counter spell. >>46745977
>>
>>46743100
i built that list and then upgraded to naya burn, it definitely is a decent starting point.

i recommend just starting out with boros burn though, add lightning helix and boros charm and drop flames of the bloodhand and magma jets

get 4 wear tear in sideboard, drop rending volley
add dragons claw to the sideboard and if your mana base is consistent enough get kor firewalker instead

it's good to have fetches but not 100% necessary at first, i ran battlefield forge and a plain or two until i could afford sacred foundries and fetches.

sell it but dont put all your money into boosters unless you just want to draft, if you want to make decks you like, just put the money into cards you need directly.

Professional burn matches I suppose, watch the sequencing and when the player decides to hold a burn rather than casting it.

Why is Infect the best deck in modern?
>>
>>46742415
The beauty of vial is it lets you build a bunch of shitty decks. If you have a good assortment of lands in your collection along with vials it makes it easy to build a shitty deck you might be interested in as a lot of the times the expensive cards in those decks are cards you should already own.

for example death and taxes is fairly cheap with the expensive things being cards like spellskite, stony silence, path which every modern player should already own or try to own.

most tribal strategies make use of vial.

If your deck revolves around 1-3 cmc creatures you might as well jam 4x vials into your list and see how that works out.
>>
>>46747712
Yeah, I did. It does some crazy shit like T3 Drogskol Captain and Phantasmal Image for 2 3/3 Hexproof fliers the buff everything around them.

There really aren't. You either rush the combo if your opponent lacks interaction or just tutor for your sideboard 1-ofs for a particular MU.

Why isn't this playable?

I can understand it's not immediate answer, which might be the reason, but isn't this major fuck factor on any aggro type deck out there?
>>
>>46748113
Because it kills your own creatures anon kun. It might be ok in some sort of grindy deck that also doesn't run creatures, but there are better, faster answers.
>>
>>46748113
It is playable, but it usually sees play in enchantment decks.
>>
>>46747645
Because all the best decks are banned or neutered.
>>
>>46746941
Either sell the card, or trade it away for non-premium cards you'd rather want.
If you're unsure what cards you'd trade it for, go for fetch lands. You'll find use for them later, and they will most likely increase in price as the time goes.

I'm going to try this. We'll see how it goes. All the cards with the "give your opponent a creature token" downsides.

Why exactly? Pumping tokens for your opponent means Nodes never hits anything relevant (guide, nacatl, bob, snappy, goyf), Beck/Call will never be competitive (read: fast) enough and Ad Nauseam already has all the fixing it needs and giving your opponent beaters when you usually win with 1-2 life vs aggro is not the greatest plan.
