Yesterday we continued our exploration and colonisation of the western continent, establishing a joint colony with the Kaichou.
The expansion of the Pajit Empire prompted us to launch a surprise invasion on the Jamatun Kingdom. Our superior military forces make short work of the darkskin warriors and we have conquered the nation. Many thousands of darkskins perished in the process of the invasion, but we have begun restoring order to the new province and helping the locals recover, making them equal minority subjects of our republic.

We've built roads connecting the new province with our highways, sent bureaucrats, officers, teachers, priests and specialists to work on uplifting the darkskins. New fields are planted and the locals are being put to work. For now, they are obedient, in awe of our superior technology. Work is steady on improving the province in all directions. Cotton has also been introduced into the warmer parts of the province as a new cash crop.

After some initial prototype designs, the first successful piston steam engine's principle is to condense steam in a cylinder, thus causing atmospheric pressure to drive a piston and produce mechanical work. We are now beginning to employ steam power in pumps.

The Pajit have modernized their navy, building ships of comparable design to our own. Theyve launched an invasion of the Barniju Spice Islands - the archipelago has no unified government and nature is as much of an enemy as the locals.

Instead of white population growth, we should focus on minority population shrinkage. Enact laws that only allow for subjects such as the Kafi and Darkskin to only have one child. We've improved the steam engine design even further through new inovations. All-round our scientists are working in all fields to give us a decisive edge over any potential enemies to our nation - however, this is a process which takes time. The government has dedicated more funds and resources towards R&D, but inventions take time.
Meanwhile, the Pajit have almost completed the conquest of the spice islands. In the west the kaichou have begun colonising inland. News have come of fighting at the borders of the inroki tribes and the Pacharnati Empire.

Restricting they're breeding rights is the better solution compared to killing them outright or attempting to assimilate an entire race which would be very very slow. Killing them outright would lead to revolt but gradually assimilating them is impossible unless if it means breaking the purity of our people and not heeding the race laws. Have a one child policy is the best middle option. Also it would only be applied to subjects who have proved unruly such as the Kafi.

Durig war a tend to shift sides if they think it's good for them, but i really think we should become closer allies with the kaichou empire which would allow us to run the railroads through their land and secure he fact that the sunset alliance can't backstab us freely.
I think conquering jamatun as well would allow us to completly circle the pajeet empire which would give us a lot of tactical freedom.

We've improved our frigate designs and expanded our naval forces, as well as posting a few ships in Jamatun. The old galleons are now mostly serving as large transport ships, as we have developed ships of the line for pitched naval engagements and bombardment.
We've also modernised our infantry, now almost entirely relying on muskets in the standing army as ye longbowmen and swordsmen of olde have become light and heavy infantry. All musketeers are armed with sidearms, naturally, but the musket is now firmly established as the main weapon of our soldiers. Part of the militia is still trained to use pikes, though we are seeing an increase in the ratio of gunners to pikemen.
The age of sword and arrow is officialy over as the war museum adds more exhibits to what is now past - the full sets of armor, shields, longbows, large swords and axes.

Aside from knowing that we're gearing up, the pajit can only guess of our intentions. They are largely occupied with the islands, as the campaign has been a logistical nightmare.
We've chosen the Ramki Kingdom as our next target. The city of Ramatpui near the border is guarded by a large castle. The capital, Hyulyu, is the largest port in the south and as such is defended by both land and sea.

our movement was spotted early on - both the army and the fleet were met by massed enemy forces!
The forward army(35k pros+25k militia) has encountered a large enemy force in the field - the ramki have massed what must be most of their standing forces to meet us head on as soon as we got out of the jungle. The terrain is on their side and the numbers are roughly equal, but we have a clear technological advantage - the enemy has some arqebusier corps, but at least half their forces are still spearmen, archers, cavalry, melee infantry and some war elephants.

As the enemy infantry closed in, limiting our musketeers even further on top of the terrain, the enemy's war elephants moved forward - these ones weren't planning on charging through us, though - they bore mighty cannons!
Our lines were cut apart by enemy fire and shock and we are being pushed back and encircled - we need to either hold on until reinforcements arrive or somehow break through this encirclement!

The enemy had disrupted our lines completely. Stoen, leader of the Maargard detachment volunteered to take a part of our forces and hold the enemy off while the rest retreat. As the only viable strategy, that had to be done.
General Luvdal has retreated from the battle along with the 40 000 men he has left. The enemy is left with 50 000 men and has captured 2000 of our own.
This marks the first defeat in a large, pitched battle for our armed forces. The Forward Army has regrouped with Central for now - they were moving in a column through the jungle.
The war has only just begun and we will have to act decisively to rid ourselves of the shame of defeat.
With this ends today's thread. I'll continue next week - do not lose hope - as a great man said - ""sometimes by losing a battle you find new ways to win the war"

We had a standing army of 75 000 men, of which almost all were sent to the campaign and reinforced with about as many militia - the terrain we had to pass through meant we needed to split into a column of three armies.
Every able-bodied male recieves training to serve in the militia if need be - on offensive campaigns we send the best of the militia to accompany the armies and on the defensive whatever region is under attack marshals its own reserves.
To compare us to real world tech, we are around 1710 right now. We are the most advanced nation we know of.
Our allies are the Kaichou Empire(second most advanced nation) and the Sunset Alliance. If the war drags on we expect to recieve reinforcements from our allies and our vassal states - Waru Poto, Bei Poto and the Sigbru Kingdom.
We seem to have underestimated the capabilities of the Ramki - they are still using arquebus guns, bows and melee infantry, nevertheless. Overall their manpower reserves are lower than our own, as their population is 2-3 million at most. How much of that they would be willing and capable to commit to the war effort depends on how things go.
The Pajit have in recent decades advanced conciderably, attempting to catch up to us. 100 years ago we waged a major war against them and their allies, after which our relationships were good for a while. How they will react to this war remains to be seen. The pajit have a smaller territory than us, but their corelands are more densely populated - they used to be the most populous nation, but are now at most equal to us.
