For an MMO I found the combat to be pretty okay, not that that's much of an achievement.
I was more disappointed in the ability system. It was kinda cool how open ended it was but ultimately all the options felt the same. It sort of seemed like they were going for a guildwars sort of thing but went too broad.

Someone here who has unlocked all the abilities.
When "leveling up" planning ahead and understanding synergies and situationally important abilities is pretty solid and you need to improvise a lot with what you have bought. You can't fuck yourself over but you can hinder yourself if you don't plan ahead.
In my opinion that makes character progression quite interesting, moreso than mmorpgs usually, though it is difficult too because of this.
Once you hit endgame variability is lost because you probably have all the necessary abilities and good enough gear for the most functional builds and there's no reason to use anything more interesting or unorthodox and that is a shame.
