>Tribal Savages of the Northern Ocean

Expeditions to the untamed waters of the Northern Ocean reveal information on the cannibalistic natives that dwell on the multitudes of volcanic islands that cover the cold, temperate region. Orcs by race though far more bestial than their mainland kin, they are heavily dependent on the seas around them for their living, with much of their diet coming from shellfish, whales, and various schools of fish that team in the rich cold waters. Their islands are relatively poor in terms of metal, and most of the tribal warriors instead garb themselves in the hides of the various monstrous beasts that share the storm-wracked islands with them.

An clannish people, their religion is a divisive brand of animism that has often pitted island against island in an attempt to prove whose patron spirit is stronger and fiercer. It is rare than a warchief can unite the scattered tribes, though such a force would likely still be volatile and fragile -- tearing itself apart the moment the leader died. Travelers whose boats wreck against the rocky shores are commonly used as sacrifices, gifts from the sea to their island's patron spirit.

Most treasured are those of the Great Islands to the south, who's metal armor and advanced vessels are seen as the tools of godlings, spirits wearing the same flesh as the orcs. As such, the worship the orcs give the Great Islanders is a double-edged sword. Vaulted and exulted as divine figures, their flesh is said to grant magical powers and their blood is the most precious gift a tribe can offer to their patron.

After several hundred years of petty warfare, the Kingdoms were eventually brought to accord under Blokadi The Magnificent, the first High King. Instead of merging them into one empire he allowed them to remain separate entities, and instituted a policy of the kings voting one of their number to the position of high king, who is responsible for settling disputed between kingdoms to prevent another era of strife. In reality, the borders are now stable and the position of high king is mostly ceremonial. Given the dramatically lower rates of regicide in modern times the royal families are currently fine with this.

The UDK is currently undergoing something of a renaissance, several generations of being at peace has led to a huge increase in population and productivity, and the new found wealth has spilled over into the arts and sciences. The nobility, and the royal families in particular, compete for prestige by sponsoring universities and commissioning paintings, music and sculpture.

The UDK has a huge pantheon. There are several major deities, though their relative importance varies between the kingdoms. There are also hundreds of minor gods, many of them only worshipped in certain areas or settlements.

With prosperity has come trade, and the flow of wealth between borders now practically makes real war impossible, limiting conflict to minor skirmishes, generally the bickering of the nobility. Although the kingdom's identities remain, the idea of a pan-kingdom identity has emerged among the populace, and the legacy of the near deified Blokadi and the peace he created is held at the heart of most people across the kingdoms.

Oppana's social structure revolves around the High Queen who is served by the twelve Lords/Chieftains who are the successors to the ancient tribes who inhabited the land before the first High Queen arrived uniting them under her rule, this also started the tradition of the ruler of the land being female.

>The Republic of Amrajya

Massive and lush, Amrayjan people often describe their nation as the Crown of the World. Lush forests and grasslands cover the majority of it's densely populated Southern half, fed by the giant river Akna and the monsoons that frequent the region. The North turns into dense jungle, less peopled than the south, but with many enclaves of civilization.

Ruled not by a single king, the Republic is led by a loose coalition of powerful merchant princes, bureaucratic aristocracy, and private military organizations. Despite this seemingly fractious and disorganized structure of governance, Amrajya has long been a stable geopolitical entity, with internal strife usually corrected for within generations. Similarily, because it is generally run with profit and prosperity in mind it is known for it's efficient infrastructure. Amrajya is ultimately held together by the nationalistic sentiment of it's inhabitants. Often referred to as the Wealth of the World or the Golden Nation by it's people, they have a strong and deeply held culture.

Rich in natural resources and arable land, Amrajya can support a colossal population. Vast fields of rice, lentils, and a type of starchy vegetable called somat feed millions. Domesticated elephants and rhinoceros are the primary beasts of burden, but some of the alpine hinter-folk are known to ride giant goats. These alpine lands are known for their rich gold and gem mines, with jade being an exceptionally sought after stone. The north's steaming jungles and highlands are rich in spices and exotic textiles as well.

The Merithian people rose from the ashes of fallen empires after the great incident, where our planet Jahruk as told by our ancestors. One day became inverted, land crashing into the ocean, and the tropics rising above. Eventually giving us our planet. The sea faring people of that day lived as they sailed along, getting stuck in the rising landmasses. These people eventually came together in unity to form Merithian. Named after our Lord, whom came down to navigate our people to the lushest of lands in Jahruk.

With generations of expansion, with aid of Merith, we were able to be lead in the right direction of agriculture, metallurgy, and the sciences, whether political or military. To expand and capture lands grown in the Great Inversion. Even to this day, we find things we thought never existed. skeletal framework of alien technology's, rusting hulls of mechanical horses like in the boats that carried Merith's people.

We have an expertise in swift action, having been blessed with the science of Merith, he allows our ships of soldiers to be able to get to a battle quickly within days of the call, allowing us to protect our empire, and let it prosper.

Most of Paglia consist the Emerald plains reaching from african to american ocean. Cities of the north are rich in industry from mountainy regions providing goods from forests and mines
Twin rivers Dowl(south) and Gond(north) provide large fertile area where most of agriculture is located with.
Coastal cities trade and provide services to move goods from coast to coast with their caravans.

Pulgia is the center of caravan guilds and seat of the royal house of Gael who were first to tame Gurado, man-eating horses of the plains that hunt their smaller cousins and buffalo. Larger and sturdier than buffalo and faster than their mustang cousins they carried more and stampeded all those who were to oppose the Gael caravan. The Gael dynasty rules with iron fist making sure that no caravan guild gains true advantage over others with heavy taxation and large spynetwork. Most of the caravan routes prefer the cooler temperature of the northern mountains but other choose ways trought the plains in attempts to reach coast faster and avoid taxation of royal caravan checkpoints. They face wilderness with wild beasts and remorseless wind and settlements are few.

People who inhabit the plains herd cattle, horses and gurado under the royal banner. They live mostly nomadic lifestyle herding huge herds and rarely meet other people More adventurous are the gold diggers who travel to work on the guild strip mines.. Few settlements are quiet until a treading season when herds meet in the settlements to sell their animals to traders and caravans for meat and use. Settlements come and go with the mines only few permanent ones being built on exhausted mines.

Traders are far less likely than mercenaries, to be honest. It's too far for any significant long-term raiding, but during a past warchief, a fleet of dugouts might have sailed to the west to bring war to the UDK. The Bao-Ren are likely seen as monsters by your people, but monsters that in small numbers are easily swayed by gold and oaths.

Your steel would certainly be valued, and perhaps the Great Islanders could facilitate our trading if it occurs. Otherwise, expect the occasional furs arriving on the backs of wandering Bao-Ren outcasts, banish from their homes and seeking fortune in your lands.
>>
>>46401887
So how do we determine our points here? And what are the metrics?

Like, what's 10 technology? Modern? Future? Renaissance? What's 10 Culture?

Amrajya here btw. Shame we can't name fag today.
>>
>>46402228
I'd say 10 Tech should be somewhere between Renaissance and Warhammer Empire / Warcraft Goblins/Gnomes/Dwarves?

10 Culture would probably be in terms of prevalence and spread? And 25 points to spread, I think. I really have no idea on Culture.
>>
>>46402165
please just delete the southern country if you guys dont like that one either... I cant be swamp dwelling tar people, and I cant be peaceful engineer people. Thats both ends of the fucking spectrum, what can I be? If I claim a tiny spit of land is it going to be allowed?

>>46402228

>>46402299

You literally could be the swamp people, you fucker. There was nothing holding you back except for your unwillingness to circle it. Though now, literally the only IC expansion has fucked you out of it unless you want to ask if the dye-loving cowfuckers are willing to cede it to you.

And no-one told you that you couldn't be peaceful engineer people. We just told you not to try to claim a quarter of the fucking world. Take those fuckheug mountains to the southeast of the Great Islands and go to town with mines if you want. Or where you are. Your shit is literally on the map right now.

Ill take the Hudson Peninsula
>>
>>46402299
To be fair I think your first choice was fine. Except the slight overlap with Marithia's colony there wasn't a problem with it, and that could easily have been solved.

>>46402192
Mercenaries would have been welcome during the Kingdoms Period... Now we're unified(ish) and largely peaceful, savage monsters wandering in would more likely be treated as target practise for our young knights.

And with no real mercenary opportunities, I imagine your folks would turn to piracy and raiding on my ass.

Trade via Great Islands could work though.
>>

>Bao-Ren of the Blackrock Islands
Oh shit, nigga, someone finally claims the fuckheug mountain. Draw your circle and fluff yourself up. Expect frequent raiding from the islands surrounding you, though.

>>46402423
Well, sounds like you have yourself some wandering monsters for adventurers to deal with. The remnants of savage foreign mercenaries, turning to banditry on the edges of civilization in ridges and mountains.

Though these are outcasts that the Bao-Ren of the islands would joyous aid you in putting down if ever encountered. They have no patron spirits, and thus they have no soul.
>>

Wouldn't this create a narrow string of mountains that are 11,000 meters tall, almost twice the height of Mount Everest? And then at the poles there are mountains that even eclipse that. These places would come so close to the edge of the atmosphere that it wouldn't even be worth talking about the distinction. This planet couldn't possibly bear life. Ever.
>>

>>

>>
>>46402331
25 isn't that much, given 7 categories. If you spread it fully, that just gives you rough 4 in each category. Seems about right, as some places will specialize in various aspects instead.

>>46402521
That is exceptionally not the point of this thread, you fucker. You stake a claim, you flesh it out, and we build a world. You're just acting like a whiny brat, when it is your fault entirely that your first nation wasn't established and then you just claimed a quarter of the world 'so that yo guys could have fun with it'.

>>46402526
The purpose isn't to completely invert the earth. It's to just that rough and inaccurate map as a basis for a fun thought experiment.
>>
>>46402598
Yeah, but 4 in each category seems a little high for beginning civs.
>>
>>46402619
Based on few descriptions I doubt we are on the beginning. A lot of civs seem to be around renaissance.
>>
>>46402619

We aren't really starting civs though, most people's fluff is fully formed nations, some of which are colossal. Making something like Amrajya have retarded level tech, culture, etc just wouldn't make sense.
>>
>>46402619
I mean, I don't think we're playing at 1000BC. This seems to be more of just creating a setting right in the thick of things. Besides, if you cut it down further, that will make it pretty difficult for civilizations that want to focus on anything more than a single focus pretty difficult.

Massive sudden peaks that make it difficult for armies to get into the interior, the fact that small hunter groups could only get so far south before hitting the ice sheets that the wendigos could use as a refuge. The Hinttervold conclaves are an allied state of beings who enter into a pact to live within the confines of their icy walls. There are three ways to make your home there; to be born within its walls, to be approached by the conclave itself and by utilizing magical waystones scattered around the world.

Life in the conclave is lucrative and provides a safe atmosphere for experimentation and alternative lifestyles which attracts many mages to its confines.

Mages of the outside world are openly approached by emissaries, who offer the magic user a waystone. Provided they can generate enough magical energy they may enter the conclave instantly, at a price. Upon transmit a portion of magical energy is "taxed" from the mage and stored within the city. Now you see the purpose of inviting mages. Scattered waystones similarly bring people to the conclave by happenstance, where they are informed of its nature and allowed to leave.

Knowledge of the conclave and freedom within its walls both flow freely. Its mountain walls provide protection from any would be invader, and fell handed golems patrol the streets and most transgressions are punished with banishment or death

I feel like I may have put in too much into tech, but it's mostly based around defensive technology like forts along the northern coast and ways to maximize speed on ships to avoid having the wimminz stolen by those Bao-ren for their sick practices.

>Great Islands
The Great Islanders are a very reserved people, ages of marauding forging their unity and shared xenophobia of orcs. Their northern shores are sparsely populated and dotted with fortifications and watch towers in an ever constant vigil, the majority of people living more on the southern edges and interior, where the vast forests hold the majority of their physical wealth of wood and animal furs and some sparse iron deposits.

Nice to meet you. How's the idea I put forward in >>46403516 sound, in regards to your people more or less using our kind as a defensive shield against foreign traders?

>Oppana

I refuse. To put it bluntly you have built your Fort Farhkland dangerously close to our sacred isle, which has of course brought great concern among the people and even the High Queen herself. We need a foothold in case of any movements from you towards that land.

>>46403872
That Gulf of Mexico peninsula has already been claimed. And you might be struggling against Oppana for some of that northern territory.

THIS IS STILL NOT TO SCALE

>>46403861

Map Update

That could work, a side-effect of our situation making you a sort of bulwark against anyone trying to muscle in on us. I guess you could say necessary evil, though most people here would still just want you gone on the whole.

It's the right size, but ignores the updates. Please use the most recent map.

Pt 1
Inhabiting the High Southern Valley Mountains, the tribes of Wendigos are one of the most isolated and hated "nations" in the world. Living in the crags and ruins of a long dead civilization, some say that they are the citizens and royalty that consumed human flesh as the glaciers advanced and cut them off from the rest of the world. There is some credence to this theory, given that the few captives that have escaped their clutches tell of being force-fed the flesh of the dead by the monsters, and no known breeding grounds or Wendigo young have ever been found. Regardless the nations that border this lost territory live in fear and vigilance of the winter nights where their screeching cries herald a raid as an avalanche of monsters descends across the land. Being scarcely more than beasts means that they are repelled once professional fighters are dispatched, but it is usually only after cities are devoured and dragged off on the border. Some have called for a wall to be built to close off the lands, however isolation leads to further cannibalization among the Wendigos, which causes them to grow larger, stronger, and even more vicious.

>Name
"Wendigo Badlands" are the most common designation for the mountain range.
>Color
Black

>Culture
1 - While some artifacts of roughly Bronze Age have been uncovered, their purpose is debated and no definitive culture has been discovered.
>Military
7 - Wengidos are tough and the raiding parties can easily overpower defenders through sheer power, however experienced soldiers can overcome the bestial nature of their attacks due to their primitive weaponry and lack of firm tactics for battle beyond raiding and capturing prisoners for food.
>Resources
3 - In theory the mountains would be a boon for any nation that could take them, as they are believed to be rich in rare ores and gems. However anything beyond basic weaponry material is left largely alone by the current inhabitants.

>Marithia
Why no. We the Marithian masses have no intentions of such conquest. If we had such intentions. We would have done a mass invasion of your people. Pillaging like savages throughout the land and raping killing and burning. Something we haven't done, and don't intend to do for a very long time.

>Population
5 - Highly variable. Successful culling leads to the mountains being able to be explored on their more distal edges, while complacency has seen Paglia have attacks as far as the capital.
>Technology
2 - Beyond basic techniques for weaponry such as swords and in some cases armor, largely they depend on their own powers and claws. Circumstantial evidence suggests older individuals can adapt to more modern ranged weaponry if it is presented to them, however nothing has been scholarly proven.
>Magic
1 - While Wendigo blood and body parts have arcane uses, beyond unnatural healing and strength they do not use magic.
>Religion
3 - Oddly enough definitive evidence has been put forward that Wendigo tribes do exhibit some form of anima worship, however the exact nature eludes most researchers.

>Government
Wendigos are lead by the oldest, strongest individuals. While the exact mechanism is unknown, they seem to grow larger by consuming more people. The largest confirmed was felled in Paglia 200 years ago, at 78 feet tall, however oral culture tells tales of Wendigos as tall as the mountains they live in.
>Religion
Scouts and hunters have given confirmed reports of rituals conducted under full moons by tribes and armies of Wendigos, but who or what they are worshiping and to what purpose remains a mystery.

>Resources
Used: Iron, Copper, Obsidian.
Non-used: Rubies, Emeralds and Gold are plentiful in the mountain. Rare ice elementals also are found at the tips of glaciers. Furthermore the cities where they make their home are the stuff of myth and legends of everything from the riches of the kings that ruled them to the dragons that still hibernate in the snow.
>Technology
No known inventions. While they seem to be capable of hammering of weapons and armor, it is difficult to say if these are the product of their own creation, or just things they pick up to use among the ruins.
