That's part of it. Mostly, Sylvanas's issue stems from her initial identity crisis at the end of Wrath. After killing Arthas, she decided there was nothing left to live for and killed herself. I think that would be grossly oversimplifying how the system works. Warlocks tend to use both Fel and Void, while Shadow Priests focus entirely on Void yet have a different approach to it, and so on.
Shaman, Mages, and Warlocks can probably all conjure fire in the right conditions, but they clearly do it differently.

Kel'Thuzad actually knew all schools of magic extremely well and was a powerful member of the council. I think he might have had his frost and shadow magic amplified to insane levels becoming a lich though because he is a (un)living conduit of it and he plays to his strengths.

Revenants were always so fucking dope. One of my favorite groups of enemies from WC3, and it was my original RP set for my paladin back in the Vanilla / BC / Wrath days.
