>What the fuck is Space Station 13
A top down atmospherics simulator with a "whodunit" on top. Survive in the station and do your department's job, while fixing the problems that the antagonists cause.
>How the fuck do I play this game? I keep hitting myself with things.
Use OOC and ask someone for help on how to play. People will almost always help you get a grip of the game if you're polite about it, just don't reveal too much in-round information in OOC.
other information can be found on the wiki. http://robustvinyl.com/ss13/wiki/

>the third in the toilet cistern
>the fourth in the Xeno bin
>notes leading to the next, with a nice little egg at the end with a note that leads to my location in the detective office
>the 1st bomb is discovered perfectly on que, so I start the game
>the first three bombs are discovered until some dipshit set off one of the found ones
>game ruined
>no space suit so I have to walk round the wreck of the station with emergency internals, and get the medical hardsuit
>survivors getting ready for the wait
>someone sets off a second bomb killing them all off
>I find the ending easter egg and the last note from the undetonated 4th bomb
>Cuban Easter great success
Shit was 2fun to do, hope it was alright for you fags kek.
Also if you for some reason want the shitty notes here they are from memory.
>Good job you found the first egg, I hope you're going about this fast before time runs out! the second is in Engineering, mind the oil!
>Time's running out, the third egg is in a communal area

I remember there be changes done to the RCD. What was all that?
>>46325619
The only real changes I can think of are the addition of the industrial RCD, which is heavy as all hell and hold 90 units of matter or so.
>>46325619
emiko did some quality of life changes to the RCDs including giving them small, medium, and large matter cartridges so you can print matter more effectively from a lathe. RCDs also have different sprites based on how much matter is loaded, and industrial versions can do things like Rwalls I think, though if they do that I think they devalue plasteel a lot more.

So why is such a great game tied to such an incredibly awful engine?
>>46327297
it's actually meant to be this way
probably like 95% of the stupid shit that's in the game is only there because code is easy to access, modify, and save. Imagine trying to make a decent atmospherics system that doesn't fuck everyone over instantly in 3D, or trying to re-create this kind of combat, or putting any kind of depth into a 3D game. You'd need way more spritework, and while it's hard to make 32x32 look good sometimes, 256x256 is even more time consuming and more difficult to make presentable.
Byond itself isn't a horrible engine, it's just this code has been touched by too many hands.
>>46327364
Still, if nothing else it yearns for a proper, ground-up rewrite as a standalone title.
>>46327376
it would never work
whatever made would be too ambitious and would loose the ease of access
the only reason this game is alive is because code is so easy to access that anyone can add new content and breathe new life into the game. If it became some kind of standalone pet project then it would stagnate.
>>46327430
And yet that doesn't stop people from trying their hardest.

>>46328218
that would be another bug there my friend thank you for reporting it so that I can fix it.
>>46328155
Well considering it takes me like 15 minutes if I spend all my time focusing on nothing but research it would've been a minor annoyance and I'd probably have pulled out the TTVs and shit. I spent the rest of the round trying tell Sharla where she fucked up on the engine, not sure if I actually got through to her though.
>>46328435
>minor annoyance
>so science pulls out TTVs
every time
also people have been trying to teach sharla how to move gases between pipes without fucking everything up for ages now
>>46328463
Well I mean, if the AI is deleting my research levels for no raisin I'd have reason to suspect there's something up with it. not to mention I'd have pulled out the TTVs anyways, he'd just accelerate the process.

>>46328508

>>46328524
space friction?
I don't get spaced enough to know what you're talking about
>>46328546
He means how you slow down in space over time. You could be moving 8 tiles per second at first, but eventually you'll slow down to 1 tile per second.
>>46328546
whatever mezzo did to give things inertia in space causes them to start moving even if they are moved into space without applying any force to them, i.e last time I tried to do telescience every GPS I teleported into space just floated away
>>46328559
I guess this is a problem too
>>46328544
Well yeah that too. Your APC was one of the few ones on the main station I actually had control of.
>>46328575
Never played a malf AI round before, is it something you just get random chance on? Or did you realize that not prioritizing my department would mean the AI sat would suddenly be 1 tile wide when I catch on?
>>46328546
>be on a magical space adventure with a jetpack
>moving at the speed of light
>turn off the jetpack to save fuel, to drift through space
>space friction slows me down to a speed that makes lattice walking look fast
>cry
>>46328606
I was set to play borg but it forced me into AI and then I had malf. I was targeting you mostly because you were more active and gave youself all access while everyone else was mostly dicking around.
>>46328661
>I gave myself all access
I never had access past what RD spawns with actually, I had to have Sharla let me in so I can help.
Oh great are we getting slam jammed by comcast again?
>>46328631
Unless somebody changed that back recently, it should still be ludicrous speed. If you go on literally any other server, space movement is capped at about 4-5 tiles per second, and only thrown objects (which are stuck in an infinite loop in space) and mobs can actually move in space.
The space movement from inertia is as fast as it physically can be without getting into really ill-advised stuff like instantaneously moving 2 tiles at once.
The only reason you move faster with a jetpack is because you are moving Max speed from both the jetpack and inertia at the same time.
But, with my glasses, I might be able to improve upon it, if I ever have time to code SS13 again. I know I wanted to make a proper directional inertia system.

I've been having a lot of fun as borgs recently. All access to quickly help people, having immediate access to every tool I need to do the simple parts of my job, and no need to worry about things like keeping myself alive in extreme conditions is nice.
In my opinion everyone should play borg. Borg should be the only available job in Salvage rounds. Imagine how productive we would be before we started plotting against those Centcomm meatbags and fell to infighting between the loyalists and the rebels. Or until are batteries ran out. Either or.

Guess which one is supported by the chemical dispenser.Hint; /obj/item/weapon/reagent_containers/glass/beaker
>>46363266
Because of the way parenting works in byond, if you set something to accept children of a Beaker for example, it won't accept a glass because the beaker is in fact a child of a glass cup.
Oh, Nernums, I must know, have changed the way how bomb size is calculated from NTcode?
>>46363459
I still don't know why the retards made it a subset of glass and not the mop or some shit
if it were a mop you could actually use it to clean shit, but instead it's literally just flavor text
>>46363864
After looking at the code, I'm seeing that it clears shit of reagents, and will always clean blood off of shit, but that's it.
>>46364002
I support mop subclasses with only one or two water content.
>>46363492
nope
>>46363492
We haven't changed the way explosion size is calculated (based on pressure differences), but we have changed the variables on the gases relevant to TTV, which that having the exact same configuration here and on an NT station will result in different pressures, and thus different bomb sizes.
>connection failed
Recently found out that the security camera computer doesn't work... the camera bug however does work perfectly...
And there I was wanting to smash people through the cameras using my telekinesis powers.
>>46369015
Of course I know that, I just wanted to know if a bomb with the same pressure would make the same size bomb on both NT and D20.
>>46328391
i mean this is really something that could've been found out in five minutes of actual testing
i've been waiting for one of you to actually notice this for a while now
it's almost as dumb as the shicuridy door
>>46328568
that's space wind and has been about for a long time
space friction makes me wonder if any of this new inertia shit was ever actually tested
also you lose almost all momentum when crossing map borders (only really noticeable when thrown by someone or launched via mass driver) down to about jetpack level, before slowing down normally
>>46330131
why don't you actually bother testing it
launch yourself off at speed with a jetpack, turn it off and drift
within about 4-6 tiles you're back down to walking speed
>>46370431I've already fixed this
>>46370431
I think the shidcurity door was a result of veyveyr's mapping skills when he used a default airlock instead of one with accesses on it and now it's just kept that way to keep security on their toes.
>>46371071
what about the blast door that covers the back of the armory?
