Welcome, anyone who cares, to a Q&A session for the setting of Exorcism Quest! In this thread, I'll be providing information on the backstory and setting of Exorcism Quest to anyone who's interested! To begin with, I'll explain the basics of the setting.
Warning: Big ol' Explanation. Tl;dr will be provided if you don't want to read exposition.
In the world of Exorcism Quest, the world ran more or less the way the real world did. However, one day, the very fabric of the world tore. Nobody's sure how it happened, but when it did, the physical world and the afterlife became inexorably linked.
This moment is known as "The Weakening". In the wake of The Weakening, four beings appeared before the people of the world, and made an announcment.
These were the Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse. They claimed to be the true powers of the Afterlife, and protectors of the Spirit World. Though before they'd practiced isolation from the physical world, they promised to help protect both worlds from unwanted intruders.
To do so, they established four Great Churches, to War, Conquest, Famine and Death. Each church offered a power to its most devoted adherents, and this began the tradition of Exorcists, mortals empowered to do combat with even the most dangerous of Spirits.
Tl;dr: The physical and spirit world got linked way in the past. The Four Horsemen claimed to be the rulers of the Spirit World, and offered Humanity a way to fight against Spirit intruders. These protectors of humanity are Exorcists.
Now then, I'm perfectly open to answer any questions people may have about the setting!
