Pathfinder General /pfg/

Why aren't you a paladin, friend?

So /pfg/, is there any way for a Tiefling character to acquire the Devil subtype in addition to their Outsider (Native) subtype, for the purposes of a character getting access to the pic related feat? Or for any non-devil character to get it? 1PP primary, 3PP if 1PP fails at doing so?

It seems like the ability to create your own contracts could be pretty good, but you'd need the subtype first and I have no idea how to go about doing that.

Actually, in a former campaign in the cosmology I'm in, a paladin was stuck in the Abyss and needed to get out to help.

His particular vows and focus was on combating the Infernal Legions, so when a demon approached him and offered to send him home in exchange for helping her in one battle against devils, he agreed.

Later she came for him, and he kept his word. Unfortunately, that one battle turned out to be the unending Blood War, and he's still fighting to this day.

>>46033635
If 3.5 counts as 3PP then Savage Species allows you to use a ritual of wish to become another creature, and even possibly get access to their abilities.

Regarding the Missile Shield feat
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/missile-shield-combat

" Once per round when you would normally be hit with an attack from a ranged weapon (not including spell effects, natural attacks, or massive ranged weapons), you may deflect it so that you take no damage[...]"

The way I read it, it seems you could deflect an Alchemist's bomb, though you'd still take the splash damage. Am I correct?

>>
Y'know, last thread I said it was mostly a joke, but now I'm kind of curious. If a synthesist summoner wanted to have his quadruped form use a weapon without taking extra arms, would you allow it? I can only assume that, if used as pic-related, it wouldn't get any of the benefits of a 2-h weapon, and makes them unable to use their bite. Maybe use an evolution point to enable it, since they would have to spend it on arms anyway?

I'm running under the assumption that this is purely for style and not for cheesing more power out of the synthesist

A good DM will lay the bait for you to fall, but will expect you to resist temptation, like a proper paladin

Agreed, temptation exists, and your character is still a flawed human being.

This doesn't mean every plotline involving a paladin has to be centered around falling, nor that every GM should be shoving it in your face or trying to force you to.

Talking 'bout paladins:

BESTOW GRACE
"With this spell you can bestow your divine grace on another good creature for a short amount of time, infusing that creature with a portion of your holy virtue. When you touch the subject, you grant that creature a sacred bonus to its saving throws equal to its Charisma bonus (if any) on all saving throws."

DIVINE GRACE
"At 2nd level, a paladin gains a bonus equal to her Charisma bonus (if any) on all Saving Throws."

Since the Divine Grace bonus is untyped, what's stopping two paladins from buffing one another with Bestow Grace for extra invulnerability?
>>
>>46035149
Do you mean Inner Sea Gods? Because I can't find a book called Gods of Golarion on Paizo's site.
>>
>>46035270
Personally, I don't see the harm in it, since there's already a definite cap on the number of attacks an Eidolon can make in a round. I'm probably missing something that makes it dangerously cheesy though, since I'm not super good at summoner.

Is there a "good" way to build a non-archer paladin ? The lack of pounce/reliable full attacks just seems to be too crippling. Cornugon Smash gets you a speudo-pounce against things you can intimidate, but its a bit too little too late.

power attack is always a good one, you lose a point of attack, however you get a +2 to damage.
Weapon focus is good, but only if you want to use one weapon type and one weapon.
>>
>>46035391
>Buildposter can't figure out how to make one of the absolute best T4 classes good
I can't say I'm surprised.

Buildposter, a Paladin doesn't NEED to full attack. Between their small but useful collection of spells and their Smite ability, a Paladin does as much damage with a single attack as they need to do. A weapon that can change what benefits it obtains between fights and several decent archetypes (such as Chosen One) mean that it's actually really hard to drop a Paladin as well as allowing it to hit powerfully.

Is it just me, everyone, or does Buildposter simply not know how to do ANYTHING that isn't "me am full-attack with ranged options"? Archer Paladin, Archer Fighter, Kineticist, etc... and he's shown absolute idiocy when it comes to things that are easy to build like Paladins, Bards, Rangers, Slayers, etc... going so far as to call the classes "ill-designed" just because he doesn't know how to build them, despite their simplicity and straightforwardness.

The more people say they are easy to build, and the less people actually post builds of them, the less I think it's true.

also: my standards for a "good" build are probably a bit higher than yours, hense why most of my "good" builds can solo anything that the party should ever face.

And about the paladin. So basically just charge + one melee attack doing ~40 damage at level 12 is plenty in your mind? huh.

>>
>>46035799
We don't post builds because they're NOT REQUIRED A build is just that, a single example that only works in a vacuum without any other context, something that DOESN'T EXIST in actual play. Of course, you wouldn't know that since you don't actually play, so you believe that your "build posting" is actually important or matters in any amount. Why yes, people don't want to give you the smug satisfaction of "showing your higher standards and knowledge", because you're a cock that has their own smug head right up their own smug ass.
And as for >>46035821, you seem to think that it's one person getting "triggered" over being "told". Do you realize how small-minded and self-satisfying and punchable you sound when you say these things? Do you consider the fact that, maybe, a single build isn't enough to make the Kineticist good, and that it's not something to be up-in-arms about defending and claiming everyone who calls you (rightfully so!) an idiot is "triggered at being told"?

Damn right I'm mad. And damn right I think you should fuck right off back to the Paizo forums, or GitP, or wherever else you spawned from.

Really, either way works just as well, though if I recall, natural attacks are normally made at -5 when combined with a regular weapon during a full attack. It's all about style though. The character I have stored that could pull this off is already an Agathian-Blooded Aasimir with an eidolon form that turns him into a giant, winged celestial wolf. If I can come this far without cringing at myself then I need to keep going until I do, effectiveness and mechanics be damned.

I wish there was an archetype that actually gave up the summonin SLAs for something.

It's a few traits that kind of grind together to make him an insufferable poster. The fact that he's tripfagging for no good reason just aggravates this.
>>
>>46035971
I think he posts a bit without his name, and sometimes when he posts with his name he's not stirring up shit. It's a name not a trip, and his smugness comes from the fact that he wastes a bunch of time building characters that will never see play but he uses as examples to push his belief, and then nobody else goes to the same worthless effort, which is the only proper rebuttal he will accept.

I don't know if it was him or some other Anonymous autist, but a while ago we had an argument over whether or not a Wizard could outdo a Fighter at being a Fighter, and the guy built a Fighter at level 15 so loaded down with magic items and other shit he had like 50 god damn STR. The finished product is an entire trap class. It seems neat and nifty, but then you look at how Burn actually works and realize you can't dungeon crawl the little bastard, you can do like one fight a day then go to bed. Unless you choose some very specific options that will work in very specific conditions, then you only hurt yourself once at the start of the day to uh... do poke damage. All because we can't have people possibly threatening caster superiority with different methods of play.

He was part of a orc/goblin party. He was the leader because he was the strongest, and in a semi-cnsentual relationship with a 5cha pre-nerf witchdoctor. The 20 INT goblin wizard was in no way leading the party at all and only offered minor suggestions about thinkgs that Krog didn't care about anyways.

And my evocation sorcerer is currently being played at level 7 but with a 15 point buy.

Really? you do know that you can use the 100 foot ranged version of that attack if you need to. Or the 50 foot ranged version of that attack. Inside 60 feet the chilling blizzard blast is nasty. Being able to engage anything in LOS instead of having to walk up to it is a serious advantage over anything that uses melee weapons.

>>46036432
The exact same thing could be said about the HP that you have remaining at the end of the day or the black tentacles that you prepared and didn't cast. "well you don't use it 100% of the time so its useless" is a really bad argent honestly. The kinetistist can win most CR appropriate fights just by kiting with the teleport ability.

>>46036427

Running a character in a campaign that was experimented on and magically augmented by the big-bad of the campaign - one of the quirks of the character is that he flat out doesn't believe in magic, it's all just sleight of hand and tricks to hide the real methods and science behind it.

He's not a fedora tipping le atheist though if I've made it sound like that;

Only trouble is I've not really found a decent way to play this quirk so far, there's not been a whole lot of magic outside of combat so far but does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to really bring into focus or what I can do in interactions regarding his disbelief?

Except your hp and ability to cast your spell are far more likely to be used than succeeding on your perception check to see anemones far away. Pointing out that the range you provided isn't actually feasible to use in game isn't invalid criticism. Being level 12 you can have +15 from skill points, +22 from items if you wanted to spend 40,050 gp. I'm sure there's more, but that'd let you get an average of 47.5 on your perception checks.

Honey, sweetie, darling... I really don't know how to explain this to you any more clearly.

It doesn't matter what the max range is because the number of combats that take place outside the first range increment of a composite longbow is so few as to be effectively zero.

What does matter is that it demonstrates you don't actually know what you're talking about.

I get it, you're proud of babby's first optimized character. But demanding that people post full characters when arguing DPR is stupid. Arguing that DPR does anything more than give you the minimum requirements to be a competent character is stupid. Thinking that a single character build is representative of the abilities of a class as a whole is stupid.

In short, you're stupid. Your builds are flawed in multiple ways that people regularly point out to you, but you continue to condescend to them instead of learning from your mistakes. So please, stop talking like you're any kind of expert or that you're somehow any better than any other shitposter in this thread.

And take off the damn trip. It's going to confuse the masses and I don't want people mistaking me for you.

The max range DOES matter, because some of the more fancy ability combos don't let you use the extended range thing. The most expensive one is the blizzard blast thing, which only has a range of 60 feet. Besides that, though, yea, it doesn't really matter I guess? the important thing is that it is a highly mobile ranged attacker. Like the zen archer.

You have this weird obsession with character attacks, which you post is full of, and which don't make much sense on an anon image board. Its one of the reasons that I like math/buildposting. It speaks for itself, no authority or pedigree required.

It's not exactly like a warder, but the Vanguard Commander Warlord archetype is IT and shield friendly, and CHA based for your needs.

It plays pretty aggressively and really only works as an off-tank because it lacks a lot of stickiness outside of maneuvers. But I quite like the archetype regardless.

>A couple of vet con players and I start to add up the numbers and realize that not only is he trying to min/max and powergame despite the fact that he isn't smart enough to put numbers together properly for that, but he's also bumping his stats and fudging his rolls.
>I talk to just about everyone in the party away from table about this, get everyone up in arms and we all come talk to the DM.
>DM won't do anything about it because he's not as good of a player as we are and thinks that it's fair for him to be tweaking a bit to match our savvy. Party is half long-suffering veteran players who wish they had a better game to go to and half murderhobos who have been kicked from other games and are here because the GM has an unforgivably high bullshit threshold.
>Chug through the campaign and our continuous players are getting slowly more and more resentful of Barbie the Skaven. Some of them even leave.
> New players come in who realize what he's doing off the bat. Lots of new players, in fact. We had 16 party members at one session and got through maybe 2 rounds of combat the whole game. Some new players actually call Barbie out on his shit at the table, and he starts to show up less and less frequently.
>I get GM's permission to start a second table, frustrated to no end since I don't even get to do trapchecks like a rogue ought since Barbie and our wizard always kick down the door.
>Start a low-magic Survival/Eldritch Horror campaign, table is more popular by far than anything going on with unstable people at the table.

They're not terribly difficult:

>Spend swift action
>Do thing gambit says
>Get +CHA to d20 rolls associated with gambit
>???
>Profit

Then it's just a matter of picking the gambits you want as you level. Note that Victory Gambit is a little unbalanced, and the RAW of Unbreakable Gambit unfortunately says the /opposite/ of what it's actually supposed to do.

I actually don't even post there. No easy way to post builds and I have to make an account and shit.

Plus I would probably hurt someone's feefees and get banned.

Holy schizophrenia, Batman!

I've got a ton of these.
Human Paladin with the Criminal/Soldier background, former soldier of a holy order who converted and was ostracized and banished for not VULTing enough DEUSes. His new god/goddess smiles upon him for actually remaining faithful/pious through his trials and tribulations.

An elderly Mountain Dwarf Bard with the Sage background, a skald who had an epiphany that history shouldn't be for one man or woman to keep and who leaves the mountain shortly after training his or her apprentice. Bard travels the land proclaiming the deeds of Beardking Kingbeard of the Whogivesashit dynasty to anyone he can buttonhole. Nobody listens but he's secretly giving spoilers about the campaign through story comparison. Basically a Dorfy, bellicose Ducky from NCIS.

Keep going?

Question/idea:
Dex-to-damage won't come online till level 3, and costs at least two feats, plus you don't get to fully use power attack due to one-handings. is it possible to go a STR build rout and not be shit? I was thinking just power attack with a ancestral-arms fauchard? I might be albe to make this work a bet better earlier on.

No idea how to fix the low level AC thing. It doesn't' matter so much later-game. But you will never get there with 16 AC at level 3

Should I take mutagen or infusion first?

I have posted here before. I am writing a adventure path using Paizo and DSP content. I now need to begin play testing of book 1. Anyone who is interested please use the attached character guide to create a character.

My skype is: Slowcogs (the cartoon one)

If you wish to play please send me a proposed character. If it is obvious you didn't read the character guide from your sheet I am just going to deny you on the spot.

The game will either be on Tuesday or Wednesday evening PST. Exact scheduling will be dependent on group.

Reply to this post with questions.

When you say all DSP content, does that include the fey book that just happened? Just checkin'.

Before I spend a while reading it and building, is there still space, or are you just gathering up people who already responded?

Also, is it voice or text, and is it live or PbP?

If people wish I can also give a book by book summary of the entire adventure. Also, undiscussed in the character guide there is a subsystem for GM use in the Kingdom of Masks adventure path.

These systems are called Piece of Truth and Realizations. Some items/facts/documents have assigned Truth that must be interpreted. Interpreting them requires skill checks (such as discerning the context of a historical document, or dissecting a corpse), these pieces supply one with Truth. At certain brackets of Truth the party receives realizations through NPCs (or PCs if they take the prestige class available in book 3). These give insight into the overall plot and underpinnings of the setting.

Each book has one major Piece of Truth and several minor ones.

About to run a campaign where the GM is letting the players have two characters each.

I'm thinking Pack Master (Hunter) and Blood Rider (Rager).

What would be the best Mount and animal companion combo be? Also, which races would fit these best?
>>
>>46038377
This was written before that book. I would prefer all published DSP content. If the book is actually released then go for it.

>>46038417
This is a fresh group. There are no applicants as of yet.

I forgot to mention. It will be a TEXT based game and LIVE. For everyone who asks I shall link to this post. Thank you for reminding me to mention.

Two big questions:
1. The Shattered Mirror tradition is based around an extraplanar being currently trapped on the plane who is the founder of their tradition. Would you be okay with me using this NPC as a contact and working them into the plot somewhat?

2. As far as starting wealth goes, should we just take the average for our class?
>>
I'll probably start my first game of Pathfinder next week or so, first TTRPG as well. I was thinknig of rolling a Wizard or something, but noticed they get a limited amount of spells. How do you play a Wizard like that? Because I can only see myself cowering in a corner until the battles are over because "I might need those Fireballs for the next battle!". Like how in videogames I never use the rocket launcher out of fear I'll run out of ammo when I need it.
Am I overlooking something here, or is a spellcaster just not a good fit for someone with this mindset?

Up to you if it's complete enough for being playable, or if fey are appropriate to play in this world (I like the idea of them also desperately trying to survive the last gasps of the world, but that's something that you might not find interesting or desirable).
>>
>>46038541
Scrolls to increase your slots per day, plus arcane bond. Also your spells are potent enough to end fights entirely (color spray), so you'll have plenty.
>>
>>46038334
>>46038292
What are the divinities/deities allowed for this campaign? Standard Golarion deities, or is there a list?
>>
>>46038541
You can use cantrips an unlimited number of times per day (most of which won't be super useful, but some will be), and you can carry a crossbow for when you run out of spells - it'll serve you until you get to the point where you'll be able to cover your weakness with good spell selection and magic items.

Thanks, I'll look into those. I missed Cantrips being unlimited, I figured they still shared a limit because they are described as "level 0 spells" or something.

Something I didn't get answered last thread

Gunslinger
Reloading free action
Can reload with hands full

Bab of 14/9/4
Full attack with Rapid Shot, TWF, and I.TWF is something like 21/21/21/16/16/11 right?
>>
What DSP playtest updates have there been since lord of the wilds (the werewolf thing?) was announced?
>>
>>46038568
Fey are extremely important for the overarching plot of the game. However being part of the Fey courts would make several questions about your character difficult to reconcile. For now, as it is not published DSP content I will not put the approved sticker on it.

>>46038606
For now we will be using standard Golarion deities.

>>46038519
>1. The Shattered Mirror tradition is based around an extraplanar being currently trapped on the plane who is the founder of their tradition. Would you be okay with me using this NPC as a contact and working them into the plot somewhat?
Being as I am writing this as an adventure path I will not write him into the plot, but he may come up. Simply be it known that he will not be my focus.

>2. As far as starting wealth goes, should we just take the average for our class?
Yes, use average.

Yeah. You can only prepare a few but you can use each of those as many times as you want.

>Wizards can prepare a number of cantrips, or 0-level spells, each day, as noted on Table: Wizard under “Spells per Day.” These spells are cast like any other spell, but they are not expended when cast and may be used again. A wizard can prepare a cantrip from an opposition school, but it uses up two of his available slots (see below).
