One day I will have a six-knight army exclusively to play against other people fielding all knights. I'm holding out hope that Forgeworld create a way for you to mix and match Cerastus weaponry in the rules before I dive in, however. SO far I have a Crusader with converted plasma Obliterator, Paladin, and Atrapos.
The plan is to get Styrix and other Cerastus.
The fluff is still basic but the premise is that the Baron of a House led a campaign to reclaim a system but it was full of drone knights(maegera/styrix, some experimental cerastus/questoris) that ambushed them. Through sheer attrition the house was destroyed.
The Baron survives, takes refuge in a buried manufactorum of some sort and finds an Atrapos with basic colors of a lost house and no personal or campaign livery.
He discovers the drone-knights are slaved through this Atrapos' animus. He then bonds with the machine and takes over the system. He later goes on to collect roaming freeblades to supplement his drone-knight army.
So far I've only used them as allies. My Atrapos is still a WIP too.

Don’t use a tiny brush; the tip dries out too quickly (as in, it dries somewhere between the palette and the mini). Use a normal brush, but a new one that still has a straight tip, wet your paints, and attack it once more. It should be easier to overpaint and then correct with white later. If you’re just barely achieving that, stop there. If you can add more detail, highlight the lower corner and darken the upper (outer) corner. Correct with white, then dab on some gloss coat.
The smaller something is, the lighter/brighter a shade you should use. It’s some sort of scale effect.

2 methods for the price of one:
ALPHA LEGION
Metal is layered up to runefang steel, second is two layers of guilliman blue, third is waywatcher green layer, and fourth is one final layer of guilliman blue and then details. Takes a while but pretty easy.
1. AIRBRUSH WITH THINNED LEAD BELCHER/ IRON BREAKER (50/50 MIX)
2. AIRBRUSH FROM TOP OF MODEL WITH THINNED RUNFANG STEEL
3. MIX A LITTLE TAMIYA CLEAR GREEN WITH TAMIYA CLEAR BLUE (25/75 MIX) AND AIRBRUSH OVER THE MODEL IN 2 COATS
4. AIRBRUSH ARMOUR PANELS WITH TAMIYA CLEAR BLUE. BLENDING FROM MIDDLE OF FIGURE DOWN, SO THE STRONGEST BLUE COLOUR IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PANNELS
5. AIRBRUSH FROM THE MIDDLE UPWARDS WITH TAMIYA CLEAR GREEN
6. USING AN AIRBRUSH BLEND A HIGHLIGHT ON THE HIGHEST PANNELS (HEAD, SHOULDER PADS, TOP OF BACKPACK) WITH RUNEFANG STEEL WITH A TINY AMOUNT OF LOTHERN BLUE, EXTREMELY THINNED DOWN.
7. APPLY THINNED COAT OF TAMIYA CLEAR BLUE OVER THE HIGHLIGHT AND BLEND INTO THE SURROUNDING AREA.

But why not Emperor’s Children? Phoenix Guard have been fixed, and the models are awesome. And it sounds like a lot of people in your area want to go loyalist so there’s no point playing BA, UM, or AL.

Look up "candy coat", especially by 1:24 car modelers. It doesn't have to be a Tamiya clear, but they make the best clears. They're also meant for airbrushes. Brushing MIGHT work if you dilute with rubbing alcohol instead of water, but if you're brushing you're better off using a different brand's clear acrylic. Again, look on paint shelves intended for model cars. (I wonder if GW glazes might have a similar effect?)

Not really. FW describes the Emperor's rule as "harsh" and all indications are that the Imperial Truth was enforced violently. Not sure if there's much 30k fluff on it, but it sounds like psykers and mutants weren't treated well back then either. And you've got examples of planets under the leadership of the retired Imperial general that conquered them (like in book 4). That's generally not a recipe for human rights.
The Emperor thought humanity was in enough danger to make rights a low priority. That's always how it works.

There are a lot of hues of purple and they come across very differently. You could go more indigo and more saturated (less gray, which tends to make the purple look pastel). Or screw purple, do a late-Heresy black and pink scheme. I’m not 100% sure that they switched to their 40k scheme during the Heresy, but they could have.

it seems like the World Eaters, Death Guard, and Iron Warriors had the highest numbers of loyalists, at least proportionally. The World Eaters in particular had took so many casualties on both sides during the Loyalist Massacre that they were reported as barely above half strength IIRC.
The NLs may not have undergone a systematic purge, but between their increasingly deranged paranoia and psychotic recruitment pre-Heresy, infighting and assassinating each other during the Heresy they probably had very few actually willing to stand up and declare for the loyalist side.

But they aren't assigned equally,there aren't as many alpha psykers as there are non-psykers. That chart gives the marine a 75% chance of being above average, which makes no sense. Have the roll be something like D20 for actually being a psyker then roll a D100 for what type of psyker and alpha level psykers are only a 1% chance. Alpha psykers are like one in 10 billion or something crazy and this chart puts them at 1 in 12.

Its been established that Carcharodons are actually the descendants of a XIX predation fleet and are not actually Night Lords (or the Ashen Claws). But I was reading the part in book 6 about the Ashen Claws and the scouring of the Nostramo sector and I've come up with a theory.
The Blood Angels' reports from the moon base mention that the Ashen Claws looted everything including Night Lord progenoid glands. And later when investigating the crash site of the Shroud of Eventide the commanding officer remarks that there are not enough corpses at the crash site or in the nearby mass grave to account for all the crew a ship like that would have. He even remarks that some people are living in caves and shit, but "certainly not in numbers enough to account for the missing crew."
I think that some members of the crew of the Shroud of Eventide defected to go be space pirates with the Claws, or at the very least the Claws probably used that looted Night Lord geneseed to make new recruits."
Forge World knew people wanted Night Lord Space Sharks so they gave us a Raven Guard/ Night Lord Blackshield empire fighting a Second Crusade in the Ghoul Stars
