I always wondered if this wasn't intended. It seems sometimes like the Jedi have almost as much of a obsessive identity control over their connection to the Force as the Sith do. Then again I realize the point that the Force is meant to be this absurdly strong and overwhelming thing that drives anyone who uses it to one end or another, so maybe it's just the nature of the thing.

Mary Sue refers to a character who shifts the point-of-view of the entire piece on it's head when she enters the scene.
Every character wants to fuck, kill befriend, etc. her, no matter who their usual attachments or personalities would imply, and tends to fix problems by being there rather than by having the right skill set or by working hard for it - Working hard tends to send the wrong message, unless it's in montage or off-screen.
People complain because she swoops in, Finn instantly falls in love with her, Han offers her to be his new second bestie a day after meeting her, and she gets to sit shotgun with Chewie like no shit even happened. The Sith takes his helmet off for her and offers to take her to the dark side training camp, she gets to hand a lightsaber to Mark Hamill, and she hugs Carrie wistfully because somehow they're both aware of how important and similar their stories are at that particular moment.
Now, it's nothing new in star wars, and for the most part you want your main characters to be the center of attention in a story. The main problem is that a lot of the Force Awakens makes us think that other characters are important and they all eventually take a back seat to the new Disney Princess at one time or another a little too blatantly at times.

The Marketing of the film pitching Finn as the main character is something I don't entirely get, and it's the only reason that people are crying Mary Sue at Rey, because she was introduced as a supporting character and was the main character all along.
