What part're you stuck on? I generally found the game easier to run through than any of the Dark Souls games. Not easier in that the game was less difficult, but there were just fewer parts where I felt too frustrated or annoyed at the game to continue.

Yeah, Dark Souls veterans might actually be at a disadvantage since Bloodborne's style is different enough to really mess them up.

I got to where I'm fighting the white giant werewolf in the church, and I'm having issues beating her. So I've been wandering around a lot doing random stuff, but there seems to be a lot of beefgates from that point.

It doesn't help that I haven't found the cash to do online play, so I'm essentially doing this solo. I also leveled up Bloodtinge more than I likely should have as well, thinking that guns were going to do more damage then they do.

I feel like I should restart, but I also feel like I'm far enough in that a restart isn't trivial, yet not so far that I can't salvage my character.
>>
>>43856860
I'm also having a hell of a time figuring out a weapon to use. I've been using the cane and the gun/spear combo, but I'm starting to think the spear isn't a very good weapon.

Do some of the Chalice Rituals and get some practice in. What are your other stats?

Also, when fighting Vicar Amelia:

Aim for her Arms.

I've got the first Chalice going, I guess I should grind that out?

I think I've got 12-14 in most of the other stats, and an 18 in skill and bloodtinge. 9 in arcane, since I heard spells are weird in this game.

Yeah, Chalice Dungeons are great for practice and you might find a unique weapon or two while you're in them.

If you bump your Strength up you might be able to Switch over to the Kirkhammer or Ludwig's Holy Blade. The Cane is quite weak and really meant for advanced play.

Amelia is a qt, shame she has to go...

Your build is sort of messed up, it's better to focus on couple attributes than spreading yourself between everything, but I think you can still push through without restarting.

As for the melee weapon choice, pretty much anything works as long as you take time to get used to the move set. Either way, you should be more agressive than in Souls. And embrace dodging if you didn't already.

Yeah, guns are more of a support choice for staggering than main source of damage (unless you go PvP with concealed Cannon).

Vicar Amelia's tough first time, definitely, so I understand having problems with her. Fire Paper will do you a world of good as, since she's a beast, she's very weak to it. Staying behind her is the safest bet to avoid being hit, but her arms are a weak point and enough hits can stagger her. Take on the Bloodstarved Beast if you haven't already. It should give you some practice.

I can't say much for Bloodtinge, honestly. I'm currently going through a Skill/Bloodtinge character, and I've noticed early game it's difficult. Later on when Bloodtinge weapons become more frequent I imagine it'll become easier, but for the early game you're best off focusing on Skill or Strength, and using the guns just to parry.

>>43856881
Riflespear is great, actually. It's got a wide arc and the shotgun can deal great knockback against some enemies. I have other weapons I much prefer, but it's far from a bad weapon.

Nah, I prefer the canon the games have established for themselves.

Thanks though.

Also, if it's the main character of a book it can be okay because you're not taking from other players/the GM/making yourself unbalanced. Because the writer is free to write the story however he sees fit and can make it be perfectly sensible that the character is the way it is.

>>
>>43857297
He actually doesn't get nearly as much action in the books; he throws Triss a very sad pity-fuck and then drops her for Yen again almost immediately and layer sleeps with Fringilla Vigo for a very brief while because she's got black hair and wears lots of black and then says Yen's name during sex with her, which pisses her off to no end.

And honestly, in the books Geralt spends even more time LOOSING fights then he does winning and tends to get his ass handed to him quite a bit and not fighting that often overall.
He has one fight in the entirety of the first novel (a pitched battle against three skilled fighters) and then one more in the second which is incredibly brief because he gets his ass beat so fucking badly that he takes months to recover thanks to how bad his injuries were.

You know how when you play those Witcher games you die a LOT on normal difficulty levels sometimes due to how unforgiving fighting multiple enemies can be? Well that shit applied in the books too, and half of the time it's just luck and chance that helps him survive.
>>
>>43857461
Much much more than a special snowflake, half the time Geralt is "teh best that picks up all the best chicks, is the only one with morals AND his flaws are actualy not flaws".

Im interested now.

>Nah, I prefer the canon the games have established for themselves.

The books are canon with the games, they just take place after the novels.
Hell, one of the endings (the best one) in Witcher 3 actually synchs up with the novel's vague future timeline in an oblique way that doesn't contradict them.
Reading the books provides some context to the third game that most players will completely miss.

Amusingly, as the Saga goes on it becomes increasingly obvious that Geralt isn't even the main character; Ciri is. Geralt is the primary VIEWPOINT character, but literally everything revolves around Ciri in terms of plot, and by the third novel she takes up most of the page time rather then Geral himself.
Looses a lot fewer fights then he does too.

By the first book, do you mean the Short Story collection or the Doom of Elves? Cause there were a bunch of fights in the collection. I do particularly like the duel at the end where Geralt knocked the asshole knight out without violating any of the terms of the duel.

>>43857501

He's a great fighter.
He doesn't get all the chicks.
He's nearly universally reviled for being a Witcher (So that invalidates Gary Stuism there. Sues/Stus are universally loved.).
He's got morals, but he's not the only one.

Fuck damnit, you peaked my interest.

Anyways, I really want to like the Witcher World because it does a lot of things I like but I hate how it does the whole 'dwarves and elves are effectively a dead race' thing. I don't get the point of putting fantasy races in a setting only to say they're basically gone and don't matter on a large scale anymore. I have the same problem with the Dragon Age universe which, once again, I mostly like.

>>43857501
God, you really need to work on your spelling.
Also, they're all dead, basically.
Milva's dead, Cahir's dead, Regis is double-plus dead with a capital D.
EVERYONE fucking died in the assault on Stygga Castle except Ciri and Geralt who only barely managed to get out alive and both were heavily wounded and lived because they got rescued by Emhyr.
>>43857513
A gigantic Mary Sue, even in-universe.
Characters repeatedly mention that the sheer number of coincidences and chances revolving around Ciri should just be flatly impossible, and yet they keep happening over and over again.

It's sort of implied by other, more knowledgeable characters that is a consequence of having Elder Blood; reality sort of bends over backwards to revolve around them, which is why the other two characters in the time of the books ALSO have a ridiculous number of coincidences surrounding them.
>>43857533
Fighting and combat is hugely secondary to the stories and the Saga.
It's more about complex intrigue, making fun of fairy tales and witty banter.

The entire stories and the Saga (the novel series).
Geralt at most gets one fight per short story and then MAYBE one fight per novel, though in some he basically doesn't fight at all.
>>43857603
Dwarves are fairly common in Witcher actually, and while elves are "dying" they're maybe about 1000 years from going actually extinct.
Not counting the Aen Elle of course.

By the time of the games DA dwarves are down to just three cities on the entire continent of Thedas, plus a few handfuls of wandering suface dwarvess.. A semi-canon source - I can't remember if it's the World of Thedas sourcebook or the Green Ronin RPG - says there is only one dwarf per hundred humans on Thedas (and even to make those numbers each thag must average a hundred-thousand citizens). Elves are extremely sparse as well and even before they were defeated and scattered by humans (both times) they only had a single, small, forest kingdom.

I will admit that the Qunari do make a nice addition though.

>>43857685

I'm admittedly not as familiar with the Witcher setting as with Dragon Age but aren't dwarves pretty much limited to one small mountain chain in the northern kingdoms? And sure, the elves aren't exactly extinct but they are limited enough in population to have their affairs in the greater world reduced to little more than that of a special interest group the be protected by heroes and/or persecuted by extremists. IIRC correctly, when they tried to create a nation they only had a total population of like two thousand, which is barely a town.

>>43857637

I should clarify that I do get it from a storytelling point - JRRT did it fairly well in LotR (although even then I find the late Third Age to be pretty boring from a worldbuilding perspective; especially compared to the First and Second Ages or even the early Third Age) - but from a setting perspective, especially one where I might want to play in, I find it kind of disappointing. It's like being given a tool box only to be told that the really cool and different stuff is extremely rare and pretty much only going to come into play as tools or companions of the hero/villain to show how special they are.

I just feel that if you have cool non-human races in a setting there should be a sense that their future has a point. And hell, their present too.
