>>
>>43856007
I think everyone's had their fill of Star Dust. Makes me happy when people mention it as a good one, but it's clear that there's no real interest in it anymore.

I am only working on it now because I can't very much just leave it unfinished. I don't really care if there's no interest in it, it's a project I have a lot of fun with. That was my goal when I first posted its first iteration; its popularity was just from the luck that what I had poured my passion into happened to be an interest to people.

You can tell when people put a lot into something they make, because they will go great lengths into trying to perfect it in every way. They'll go out of their way to learn a complex program like photoshop just to bring it to life. They'll dream about the concepts, objects, and characters and write about them. I always think that's the best way to approach a project... if it's not something you can't be passionate about, it's not worth the effort.
>>
>>43856411
Oh, hey. Did you abandon that quest? Also, red/black edge dreadnought gonna be a thing? 'cause I really, really want it.
>>
>>43856411

On the contrary, I want a proper, complete version.

I'm a newfag to these threads (less than a year). The only way I've ever seen Star Dust is fragments of different versions slapped together into something sloppy. I can see how great it could be, but as it is I just skip over it cause I can't be fucked to piece together which parts go where.

I'd fucking love a complete and neat version.

Quest is in hiatus, but I do plan on running it again in the future. I only work on the CYOA now during the little time I have to spare. I just can't even think about running the quest right now, not until the semester is over at least.

First, there is interest, but it's very diminished by the fact of it's state. Heck asked every thread I was in bout it's state.
Second if you wouldn't have fun doing it, it wouldn't have turned out the way it did. and we all appreciate it. And as long as you do, please go on. Because there is nothing more important then you having fun with what you do.

>>
>>43856694

>>
>>43856786
>What's the difference?
Well anon, if you'll read Quiet CYOA again, there's explicitly a heaven and hell that you have a shot at, which you are choosing to give up to be reborn. Meaning that if you are not destroyed utterly, you will exist eternally. So dying is not the end of existence in this setting.
>>
>>43856724
>>43856718
>>43856694
Has been addressed from this angle?
You have, as I see it, three choices.
1 Reject the offer and nothing happens or you die or whatever. This is a shit choice.
2 Accept the offer and lose or spend your points regardless that part of you is gone now. What's more is you've created an unnatural thing that shouldn't exist and aught to be destroyed, just ask the math lady. This is a shit choice.
3 accept the offer and do the mystery box where unspent points are dealt with differently and might be recoverable in the form of memories/soul/whatever. Still an abomination. This is an lousy choice.

Thoughts?

>>43856811
I don't remember the mystery box. Don't think I've ever seen it posted. Anyway it's all trash. It should've just made the 'lose your memories' thing optional.
>>
>>43856807
so fucking not play it instead of whining every time it's brought of. It's not that hard.
Or are you only happy when everyone thinks the same as you?
>>43856811
That you are incapable of having fun or thinking outside your own predetermined ruleset.
Frankly, I don't know how you haven't left this place yet.
>>
>>43856811
But we only know this in hindsight. From the perspective of a person making the choice without foreknowledge, the opportunity to redo everything could be a dream come true. And there IS the slight chance of victory - the reward for the risk undertaken.

Neither can you judge a CYOA by how favorable you find its choices, any more than you can judge a tabletop campaign for how shit a situation your characters are in. Its choices have unexpected implications and interactions, for those who are willing to look back on them once they've made their builds, creating an interesting adventure for their character.

And isn't that what's important about a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure?
>>
>>43856905
I'm going to keep mentioning my opinion. Because, sorry anon, but positive opinions aren't the only viable opinions.

Plus I sorely wish I could do the CYOA, but it's impossible with that horrid memory and personality destruction.
>>
>>43856908
Not really. The CYOA is set up to spring the idea that it's going to kill you and erase you utterly for doing it, giving up a chance at eternity for it. It's a non-choice, essentially, and rather pointless and spiteful to the premise.

Still don't know what the text for Hastur Tattered King's -3 actually says under all that yellow. Anyone clue me in?
>>
>>43856908
I can't agree to that. There are a few reasons, the most enjoyment I've had from cyoas isn't finding out what the ramifications of playing it are or being told how viable my guesses have been.
In that cyoa there wasn't a plot hook I found meaningful, 'things are bad in a spooky way that's very mysterious because you know almost nothing about it and have no way of learning more within the context of the cyoa' isn't a thing I've ever really liked. Even going back to some of the enemies that were unknowable from the creepy island cyoas.

Perhaps the most important reason, making choices in the dark is the least meaningful way to make a choice. Perhaps the ramifications and results are the most important or impactful but it doesn't change if from being a guess. If I could only make one character for a game and he was locked into a single class that would define him but idk anything about the classes except the name, I'm just guessing about the difference between a fighter and a warrior.

It was cool to read because of the feeling it provided.

>but positive opinions aren't the only viable opinions.

IIRC, the deity is the collection of wish fulfillment. Which means you only get the offer because it knows you'll accept.
Which makes your point utterly moot, since you've already accepted.
Just look at how many jumped in, hook line and sinker, not even considering that maybe the line
>Something is seriously fucking wrong with this place
wasn't weird.
>>
>>43857162
I didn't accept though. I closed the CYOA and went about my day. Which is a shame, as I'd like to be able to do it. If I didn't want to do the CYOA I wouldn't bother voicing complaints.

He was pretty dense from the discussions I've seen. Shrugged off most criticism and complained about being depressed a lot.

This is really making me miss he comfy threads with good creators. Scientist and Thrallherd are probably my faves because of how much they embed themselves to discussion without being obnoxious.
>>
>>43857180
>Depressed
That would explain why he thinks erasing himself and his memories could be a positive. Self-loathing. Maybe a little empathy from someone who has felt the same could have reasoned with him then.

>Power source is Fame
>Corrputions are Feathers, Bright Eyes, Beak, Horns, Tusks, and Serpentine Body, if I even manage to mutate that much

>Companions are Rugrug, and Dar of the Deep

The plan for success:
Hang out with Dar of the Deep and offer to be a night guardian at the entrance to his mountain tunnels in exchange for him keeping me safe inside the tunnels when I turn to stone during the day. I try to kill intruders with such ferocity and make such a gory spectacle of them vlad-the-impaler style that I grow in fame as one of their finest guardsmen. Rugrug would keep me company on slow days and be a general bro.

1st pick: Yamashiro Nana. I love fit girls, and I want my best chances on her. I think my previous choices have good synergy with her, too.

2nd pick: Ogawa Sakurako. While I prefer (3) more, this girl is a sort of buffer to give me more time to focus on (1). I don't plan on courting Ogawa. I'd like to befriend her, though.

3rd pick: Lisa Fenstermacher. I like her looks and her personality seems fun. She also seems very dedicated to marriage, so I think she'd be an 'easy' pick. 2nd best outcome for me, I'd wage.

4th pick: Suzuki Sayuri. The panic pick. Another girl who is very interested in marriage, but not one of my favorites. If all else fails, I hope I can court her.

I suppose that's the end. If I don't accept his offer I guess I wont roll on the tables.

Nope, nothing to do with spots. It says right there in that CYOA you only have two options, and none of those options interact with each other.

Each of the orbs was a different colour. Blue for Creation, Red for Destruction, Yellow for Life, Grey for Null, Green for Knowledge and Pink for Cute.

No it's not. The creator left out an incredible amount of information on the various anime series that he based it on and all of his bullshit in various threads on the world. That makes this a poorly executed cyoa.

The graphic design was decent.
The writing was ok/decent.
The layout itself was ok/meh.
The lack of anime series used and general extra history to "solve" the mystery made it shitty.
No fixes that were mentioned ever made it in.
The creator being pretentious in various threads stroking his and others e-peens also added to that level of shit, which is sad because he seems like a decent person outside of that wankfest.

I ripped it from My Classmate is a Princess Knight, and I figure it works about the same. I tried to avoid mentioning MP, but we'll say it takes 'effort' to enslave someone. You can do it at range. It might take time depending on how strong you and your target are. It takes more effort to enslave stronger people. Your control slips over time and you need to expend effort to retain control over each person periodically, but not as much as enslaving them in the first place. The frequency depends on how strong you each are - it might be days or months, or even years if you're high level and they're weak.

People who are weak compared to you basically lose their will and love serving you. They'll follow your commands automatically. Stronger people can resist you, and you need to spend 'effort' to get them to do anything they otherwise wouldn't want to do. However, the more you've successfully controlled them the more inclined they are to serve you in the future.

Your level determines how many people you can enslave and how high their levels can be. The amount of experience you get for using your powers is proportional to the amount of effort spent.

No race or class is unique to Earth, although there are other races and may be other classes.

pic is something I saved in case I wound up writing the fourth wave.

Slavemancy works about as I expected, though the text is probably too vague. I'm guessing that the Charmer plays like the lead from a battle harem who can heal their waifus.

Thanks for the infodump. The other classes are pretty straightforward, except the Pond Scum and the Winner so would you mind expanding on them more?

I'm actually not sure what the 'humanity' at the end means. Out of curiosity, did you just go with mundane weapons to be badass? I honestly don't think I made non-energy weapons very attractive options.

>>43866569
I'm shocked that you could subvert my art into something so dirty.

>>43866608
well, things are kind of vague on purpose. I imagined a lot of the stuff working off mana, but I didn't want to get into actual mechanics so I avoided mentioning it. I also wanted to just handwave balance.

This version of the Charmer was just inspired from the heal slut meme. I didn't put much further thought into it. In an earlier version of the cyoa it did something else (I actually don't remember what), but it was redundant with Transmuter and I still didn't have a healer.

Pond Scum was meant to be something initially weak-sounding that min-maxers could abuse the hell out of. Any vagueness is meant to be interpreted as versatility. It was partly inspired by a Dungeon Meister CYOA magic school. It was initially conceived of as a way to min-max an achievement system, which is the example given in the cyoa. Think about stories of fae screwing people over with deals or contracts.
>>
>>43866922
It'd be nice if we could get some healers that weren't fueled by dick.

>>
>>43866608
>>43866922
The inspirations for the Winner power was save-scumming. I tried to come up with some interpretation that didn't involve time travel shenanigans. I kind of imagined it using up mana, but to avoid mana let's just call it mental strain or something. Because of mental strain, you can only run simulations of a certain length and you can only run them a certain number of times before resting. This goes up with level, but I tried to avoid giving ballparks because I wanted people to be able to interpret it fairly freely. I imagine Winners not being able to simulate each others' powers, but I couldn't fit that in. Your power has perfect knowledge of things even if you don't know them. Departing from save-scumming, you need to 'commit' to a reality BEFORE carrying it out. So you can use your power to check what's behind a door, but you can't decide to 'keep' a timeline after you've already seen the result - you need to reproduce it.

The Winner is 'resting' to some extent just by not using their powers. They might recover faster if they sit down or sleep or eat a meal, but they don't NEED to sleep.

Travel between worlds can happen in a number of ways. At least for practical purposes, they're different dimensions and you can't travel through space to every world. The more powerful something is, the harder it is for that thing to travel through dimensions. There are naturally occurring portals, and they can be tampered with via technology. There are also fully-technological devices that can travel through worlds, but Earth is currently protected from these things during its introductory period. There might be other forms of travel, like a plane-hopping spell or something. I've only really thought this through as it pertains to enabling something cool in the fourth or fifth wave (like being able to kill dudes and steal their dimension-hopping warship).

Girl Genius is the only steampunk I keep up with.

>>43866922
>>43866999
Both the picture and the charisma boost give me the impression that the Charmer is less a healslut and more the one who'd be in control, whether the other party members noticed it or not. More charming battle harem protagonist than pushover healbot. Being the only ones able to offer healing also gives them huge amounts of leverage. To me, they come off as a more palatable version of the Slavemancer. One that not only has a very useful power for keeping me alive, but won't have me itching to blow their brains out if they so much as look at me wrong.

The Pond Scum sounds like it should be able to heal others by trading away injuries. The obvious downside being there would have to be a recipient ready to take on the injury.
If you use a Seer, the recipient need not even be near you. They could be in a settlement somewhere, ready to receive your injuries, with a Healer standing by.

>>
>>43867271
Which is why I'm liking the option of using a Pond Scum more and more. Mind you it might require a mid-level one at least. More likely a one of high level.

First, you find low level players who are unwilling to face zombies or certain death for xp, but willing to face injury at least. Offer them xp for every time injury is traded from you to them. They'll stay comfortable in whatever passes for a hospital and looked after by a Healer or Healers. The agreement would involve the trade of any injuries that are not immediately life-threatening for a certain period of time, say 24 hours, and xp is given to the receiver of said injuries depending on severity and frequency.
If this is at all feasible, I can see it being a pretty popular deal and arrangement offered by certain settlements and organizations.

It could be that the mentioned "grandchildren" only applies to "direct descendants of direct descendants", but not any of their descendants.

>>43867692
There have been superpower CYOAs before, but that's not stopping anyone from making more of them.
>>
>>43867681
It's only direct offspring and grandchildren that don't grant years.
Direct offspring means your kids.

Long I ago I started something but eventually gave up on it.
I have tons of stuff like that.

>WHOM I WRESTLE TO DEATH
Is perfect grammar really the Randy Savage way?
>>
>>43867692

Yes, multiple times.
But not really done well.
Worm is superhero-y but has its detractors although personally I like its overpowered nature.
There is that text only PDF with 9001+ choices.
The cartoon pics one with basic archetypal powersets.
I vaguely remember at least 2 more.
A lot of Supersoldier CYOA can be used to make some types of supers.
Many wish fulfillment CYOAs give you some superpowers.
Then there are the ones where you are forced to fight others who have been granted powers.

But you should make yours anyway.

Skeleton
Barkskin + Upgrade
Night Vision

Step 1 - detach a toe on my left leg
Step 2 - throw it somewhere where nobody's going to look
Step 3 - detach a toe on my right leg
Step 4 - throw it...
...
Step n+1 - when I'm out of toes I can go and spook anyone anywhere, because I'm basically immortal while my toes are intact. Take that, liches!

Also, an image of regenerating immortal skeleton with an assault rifle and perfect night vision is terrifying. Perhaps I'm going to become a soldier of fortune.

The forge, science and dwarves cause no one would've been better at stopping the Germanic tribes that steampunk dwarves with stone golems

A strange CYOA. The only winning move is not to play.
>>
>>43868239
God forbid you make a difficult choice once. You might have to really contemplate something. Heavens, you might learn about yourself.
>>
>>43868275
>Memory loss = death
>You have to play an inane waifu-CYOA where all options are bad
The only thing we need to complete the CYOA triumvirate is
>Girls can have penises / it's not gay if it has a penis and says it's a girl
>>
>>43868196

My GF is already bottom middle, but bottom right wouldn't be so bad, especially if it's not genetic.
>>
>>43868196
I would be fine with bottom middle as Ive been single for so long that seeing her 2-4 times a month would feel like we were inseperable.
>>
>>43868275
>God forbid you make a difficult choice once.
This choice is not difficult at all.
I choose none of them.
>>
>>43868275
There is nothing meaningful or fun about a CYOA centered around shooting the player in the foot. For example, people play difficult video games, and likewise, enjoy CYOAs with great challenge in them, because it is both fun and thought provoking to think about the difference between if you would rather slay a dragon or a lich. It is not fun, however, to pick between if you want to die of cancer of die of AIDS.
