How many times have you had a romantic partner in a campaign? How far did it go offscreen with the player or GM?
>>
>>43827738
No romantic partner, but last campaign died before my Brawler got the chance to start learning Tien from Ameiko.

He was going to take a rank of Linguistics at Level 3.

Also, Shayliss was a weird encounter since my guy's a 4'10" manlet and despite being a STR 18 pit-fighting star isn't actually used to being mired.
>>
>>43827738
Once, with another pc. No offscreen, it didn't get far before the campaign ended.
>>
>>43827738
>How many times have you had a romantic partner in a campaign?

I've had a romantic partner in every campaign I've been in, but the most in a single campaign would have to be five and counting, with one of them being the mother of my character's daughter and the other two currently pregnant. The DM rolled for the other two, but after getting a nat 100 on the check she determined we did it in an "unconventional" way (let your imagination go wild with that one.)

Never had a DM try to take it out of the campaign, but the previously mentioned DM is willing to roleplay it up until the exact moment clothes start coming off.

Learning Tien from Ameiko is one of the cutest, and legitimately useful, things you can do in Jade Regent, I've never been in a campaign where the DM didn't play up the interactions.

Aesthetic fag here. I'm thinking of possible unifying aesthetics/motifs for the big three "D*" fiends since they currently lack any (in contrast to all the other planar races, including proteans and qlippoth). Why? They look interchangeable.

Devils have the whole fire and brimstone hell imagery, but hell is meant to be a forge for forging souls. The lemures and nupperibos (the basis of the hierarchy, below imps) look like dripping waddling clay. Take the metaphor further and make the higher devils look like they were sculpted. (See pic. It's meant to represent an infernal legionnaire.) This is in deliberate contrast to kytons, who look mutilated.

So I was talking with my GM the other day about possibly taking Leadership and what kind of cohort I would go for if I do take it. We didn't get any good ideas, but a few minutes ago I got an idea I'm totally digging. My character's uncle has become a running joke in the group, described as a con-artist wizard who has been chased out of town on more than one occasion. It's also been established that he is a human Scrollmaster wizard, but other than that, I never tried to stat him.

So anyway what I want to ask you guys is, what's the best way to represent the con-man part? Any feats or magic items, or even a small dip in another class, that would give him some abilities fitting for a tricky mage like that?

Agreed; TIDDY on its own doesn't have much substance. I haven't had much of a chance to really delve into Elsbeth's character much in the threads. It certainly doesn't help that my writing leaves much to be desired, but I've wanted to make a webcomic on the Mythic campaign she's from. Really not sure how well that'd pan out if it ever became popular enough for whatever reason.

Quick bit of her history and party role:
>Elsbeth was born during the Last War and raised by a single mother, Ioariel, an Ancient Lorekeeper Oracle whom suffered from the Friendless curse; needless to say, their relationship had been strained and lead Elsbeth to grow up to be a somewhat cynical. Though if there was anything she learned from her mother, it was that a posh living was the best living. Perhaps this is what lead to her to become a bit lazy and squishy.

>Seeking an outlet, Elsbeth sought to study magic. Once as a child, she had found a scroll her mother kept and thought perhaps she could activate it as a test of her budding magical skill. It didn't work out very well as the magic in the scroll exploded and practically destroyed her left arm. Ioariel had been able to act fast enough to stop the bleeding and repair the damages the best she could, but Elsbeth's left arm had become terribly scarred and displayed how it had been ripped to shreds. The reason Elsbeth wears a gauntlet on her left arm is purely out of precaution: if another spell explodes in her hand, she will at least have something soaking up the blast.

>During the month Elsbeth had been recovering, she learned how to cast without material components as she was allowed nowhere near them during that time.

>Elsbeth's Bonded Object is her scythe, which had been a gift from one of her mentors in college; it had been used as a prop to harvest the knowledge grown from ideas sewn.

>If he's been run out of towns, then he isn't very successful.

Well, I guess that could be true, but keep at the job long enough and even a talented person will see shit hitting the fan once or twice.

>Scrollmaster illusionist who tries to pay with conjured currency, if you want mechanics.

That'd make the most sense I think, but more what I had in mind was selling fake bauble or peddling cures and quick fixes that turn out to be temporary. Of course, an illusionist is fitting for that, too. My first thought had been an enchanter, but an illusionist might be more fitting. No matter which I go with, it's not like he'll be restricted from spells of the other school, so I guess I'll weigh it out based on the school powers.

But, anyway, more what I meant was if there are any feats that let you try and bluff people into paying more than what something's worth. I actually thing I remember a bard archetype that came out recently that was good for swindling, but I don't know how dipable it is.

>But on the other hand, the con-man part is mostly fluff and description.

Well yeah, it is. I was just hoping to find some mechanics that would do the best job of matching the fluff. Like I said before, I was hoping to learn if there were any feats or spells that are specifically designed for pulling the wool over people's eyes like that, but it doesn't really matter too much if I can't find any- a wizard's a wizard, and he'll be able to do it just fine even without special abilities that specifically let him do it.

Thanks though, you still gave me some ideas because I hadn't really thought about going for an illusionist yet.

Most of my characters usually wind up being single. My first character was a cranky old widower. My latest character is far younger, less cranky, but in a similar boat: lost wife and child to disease, got all withdrawn from everything and spent all his time learning [insert class abilities here].

>In her party, Elsbeth largely serves as a support role by acting as an artificer, offering combat buffs, debuffs, and various knowledge, ultimately leading her to being the party tactician.

>Despite being the resident grump, Elsbeth weirdly became the party face; the need to keep a good standing to gather goods and funds for her research is key to keep the party afloat.

>Elsbeth's best friend is Grib Lightfoot, the party's Halfling Rogue. The two gel well enough together due to her flexible morality and his team-positive attitude. She seems to get well enough along with Arthus, the party Warpriest. They get into occasional debates with one another when on a long treck, sometimes heated, but ultimately they find common ground on enjoying a comfortable living and various meals. The Gunslinger, Kolt (yes), seems to share in Elsbeth's moral flexibility; she seems to enjoy the rivalry between he and Grib and they try to out-compete each other. The one Elsbeth feels the most uncertainty for is Eldrich, the party Storm Blooded Sorcerer; she seems to take relief in his destructive potential as it lets her save magic in combat. However, his quest for Lichdom has left her weary. On the other hand, he doesn't seem to care enough about most things to be as much of a threat as he could be.

>At one point, Grib had been killed in combat and Elsbeth panicked and teleported him to base. In her duress, she found a scroll of Breath of Life and somehow managed to force it to work, though the recoil had killed her in turn. She got better though. What had happened was apparently a magical fluke; one she plans to investigate once the party can finally take a break from national conflict.

It's a bit brief, but there's a short run-down for the squishy Wizard.
>>
>>43828211
Make him really uncharismatic. He's good enough at magic to fake it, but he can't go the extra mile needed to pull off the things he says he can legit. He tries so hard to over sell it that people would have believed him had he just stayed quiet otherwise. He does the pull the rabbit out of a hat trick perfectly, everyone claps. Then he says and if you look inside the hat you'll see no hidden compartments or any sort of tricks, and ends up shining sunlight off the mirror in his hat into the audience's face. He uses prestidigitation to do stupid things like cover a sword with glitter and claim it's a magical artifact.
>>
Let's say you found a wizard's lair that was abandoned, but you knew there was a ton of loot inside the place.

However, there is a magical creature guarding the front and only entrance - the creature is, as far as you can tell, extraordinarily powerful and has killed previous attempted intruders. The building is set into a mountain.

You have a team of 10th-level characters.

How would you go about breaking in and claiming what is inside as yours?

>Osirian not!monk who's headed towards the worldscar to defeat the demon who he made a deal with to free his and his sister's soul from bad days after death.
Torn between two goddesses -- the Dawnflower, who his master followed and was trying to show him that he could be redeemed through her, and Sekhmet, who had a real good grip on him. His master got a bit smart and decided with him still being a kid that she'd keep him drunk -- If it worked for Sekhmet, it'd work for him. It did, so the not!monk is really a not!drunken monk, but when he starts to sober, he starts getting violent thoughts. Not exactly romanceable material.

Anon... Probably every waifu you meet in official and unofficial material is "used goods."
>>
>>43830212
The Kitsune that replaced her was pretty cute. I lost the char art I based her on (at least a quick skim of my art folder has yielded no results).

She was more of a traditional Tian/Japanese beauty. Slim features, long black hair, and a very demure demeanor. She also had a great mind for business, and she ran a kind of bar and escort services. It wasn't a whorehouse, but some of the girls would take payment for sex. In turn, she would provide the girls with an education and a way to make money.

Her Tengu bodyguard was handsome in a grizzled way. He had a lot of scars, mostly because he was blind from birth, and his father insisted on teaching him swordsmanship, because his family was a retainer for the Kaijitsu.

I kept a lot of the names and stuff, just cut and pasted a few NPCs.

At least in our DM, she was basically Captain Harrigan's adorable adopted daughter. Of course, Captain Harrigan was an agent of Chelaxian Intelligence and ultimately the big good guy we joined to kill off the Pirate kings, so I guess canon evil Captain Harrigan might have kept her as a fucktoy.

Arueshalae is literally made of sex and she's probably the purest maiden in Pathfinder.

Also as much as I hate Ameiko, it's worth noting she left home at 16, jumped on the Cleric's dick, and since then has firmly stayed in Sandpoint, working the Red Dragon inn and fighting off people who are interested in her.

She's not a pure maiden, but I'd hardly call her a slut. The fact she has the highest romance score of anyone in Jade Regent (at 40, in comparison Shalelu's at 34) confirms this.

How does that justify having two or three entirely separate races that are more or less interchangeable in appearance and most of their behavior?
>>

Their behavior is similar, but their purpose is different.
Devils want to achieve dominance and conquest into an orderly dominion.
Demons want to destroy.
Daemons want to fuck shit up-not just destroy it.

Have you tried actually reading the lore books for the different fiends? It sounds like you haven't.

So what's your opinion on the PC races?
>>
>>43829783
The same reason the Mafia isn't the Yakuza isn't the IRA isn't the Scotch Cattle isn't ISIS.
There can be conflicting interests beyond being amoral in pursuing your goals.
Devils want to rule everything, an iron fist in a velvet glove. They're your Mafia-types.
Demons want to torment all, to sin and fuck until the world collapses. They're your ISIS.
Daemons hate everything, everyone, you, your friends, themselves most of all, they want to shit in the world and kill everyone for the sake of killing, finally turning on themselves when there's nothing else left. They're, well, your Columbine killers, your destructive narcissists by way of Nihilist.

Even sub-types that are less common have their own 'thing' going on beyond alignment.
Kytons are explorers in the outer realms of human senses.
Divs are all FUCK GODS AND FUCK THE POLICE.
Thadonic Titans? Hate the gods but in a different way, they want to be gods and believe that they are the best of creation, pure hubris.

Think of it less as alignments splitting them up and more that each group has a philosophy they lean towards that happens to fit an alignment.

Back during a RotRL campaign, My Sorcerer chose to capture Lyrie instead of killing her. It was a weird turn of events desu. Both sides had everyone KOed except us, and I managed to get rid of her wand via my last grease spell. What happened next was us grapple shanking each other with daggers until she surrendered.

Her morale broke and she surrendered before I killed her and after an easy intimidate check, made her help me drag my wounded comrades back to town. Afterwards, I decided to lock her up in my basement and interrogated her but never got around to deciding on either killing her or letting her go.

Suffice to say, I kind of forgot about her until it was time for me to get a cohort via leadership (my gm houseruled that cohorts were to be picked out from existing npcs rather than customizing them fully.). Honestly, I expected to be told that there was a mummified skeleton in my basement when the DM mentioned her, but he instead narrated that I kept her as my servant and that my abusive relationship with her gave her full blown Stockholm syndrome. Anyway, all I really wanted was someone to craft items for me and make the occasional knowledge check but she was narrated pretty well so I got dragged into the whole romance thing after she did the whole "Dont leave me behind master!" when I was considering cutting her loose in favor of a druid bodyguard.

Imagine a succubus that's trying to get redeemed, and she's imagining all that stuff every second of it.

Imagine she meets a man or woman that pushes her buttons in all the right ways and introduces something called "love" to her, and shows it in ways that doesn't involve shoving something into an orifice.

Now imagine that succubus gets fully redeemed, and has the green light to do whatever she wants to that person, risk free.

One thing that always confused me, are succubi supposed to automatically energy drain people when they have any sort of sexual contact? The text on Arueshalae's redemption seems to imply that that's the case, since she needs to complete the transition to Good before she can safely have a relationship.
What's weird is that this implies that regular succubi can't actually have sex with anyone for more than, like, a minute before they die. Kinda silly.

How often do you imagine a situation comes up with a succubus actually goes the whole hog without intending to end someone?
Push comes to shove, there's always the other, twice as sinful hole which Iomedae will never forgive you (for not fucking her in) to distract people.

Plus its implied its more a throes of passion situation, she can hold it in but she'd rather not risk it, same way you wouldn't if every time you came, it came out like a bullet and might blow someones womb out.
>>
>>43830879
>>43830887
It is a sacred cow of D&D to have fiendish races pidgeonholed into particular alignments/motivations rather than have a single fiendish race which may vary widely in (evil) alignment and motivation. I am curious as to whether anyone may construct an argument for retaining this dichotomy other than appeal to tradition. If you have a single race of demons which may come in every imaginable appearance and motivation, why do you need to arbitrarily divide them into daemons, demons and devils specifically?
>>
>>43831003
>One thing that always confused me, are succubi supposed to automatically energy drain people when they have any sort of sexual contact? The text on Arueshalae's redemption seems to imply that that's the case, since she needs to complete the transition to Good before she can safely have a relationship.

The energy drain is an at-will ability, something that isn't automatic but is voluntary.

Arueshalae's concern is that she might accidentally suck out her lover's soul while in the throes of passion, which is a risk she is not willing to take.
>>
>>43831003

>>43831060
>Push comes to shove, there's always the other, twice as sinful hole which Iomedae will never forgive you (for not fucking her in) to distract people.

Anon, it doesn't matter what hole you're fucking, the energy drain can come from something as simple as a kiss.

Which is probably something that really gets Arueshalae bothered, that she meets this person she loves (for the first time as a succubus and possibly the first time ever) but can't even give them a peck on the cheek until she's redeemed.
>>
>>43831066
A single race that can have every imaginable appearance and motivation isn't very much of a race.
What you're proposing is essentially exactly the same as the current system except in name. You'd just have one race of demons which is divided into several sub-races, one wants to enslave and control, one just wants to destroy, etc. What's the point? If you read the actual lore, they all have their own origins and backstories which are actually pretty interesting.

The problem is those bumblefucks are so deluded from having built up those SJW personas over their complete and utter lack of actual personality that they actually expect you to be ashamed and enraged at not having both all the cultures (ALL OF THEM. It's not enough that a man chops off his dick. He has to have been a woman who wanted a dick before, and wants to be a woman again, in an unending cycle of self-loathing. Most importantly no one at the table must ever want - let alone be comfortable-with or tolerate - to be a man, as there is nothing non-rapist about the most misogynistic (wanting to fuck and love women aside, obviously) problemagender in existence. Arueshalae was formed from a human soul, just like every demon.

I think I read somewhere that the souls of particularly bitter women become succubi souls, the type of souls that came from spurned lovers or sluts trying to sleep away their regrets.

Pic related, Desna put Arueshalae on the path to redemption by making her remember her mortal life and how disappointing it was.

That brings me to ask - what determines, in Golarion, how strong a soul is?

Could a human with exceptionally weak will have a soul only as strong as an insect's? Would they then not go anywhere when they died?

far as i know, it depends on level of sentience/sapience, the base power of the creature the soul came from (dragons are better than humans in most cases, for example), depends on what they do while they're alive, and how much potential they have to do greater things while alive.

children are high on potential but low on deeds, wizened kings are high on deeds but low on potential, legendary heroes are that nice combination of both.

>>43831317
for soul gems (via cacodaemons etc.) they're worth a set gp, and are consumed when used in any manner.

There's an entire celestial bureaucracy set up for souls basically.
It only comes down to Pharasma herself in hard-knock cases, so Jimmy Cunt-Punt, Anti-Paladin of the Lord of Babyfuck isn't going to go before her because, well, we all know where he's going.
Ditto for Glorious Lord M.T.Beer-Mead, Priest of the Drunk God and his loyal St Arazni that believes in looking after Master and occasionally stealing a nip from his own Whiskey barrel in emergencies.
But Beard Beard the Dwarven Warrior, who has been good and true his entire life, but failed to hold the line, shaming his ancestors and allowing in the orcish hordes because he knew his family was under attack in the depths and had to save them? Well, hell is the place for traitors, but Torag would probably tell Asmodeus to go fuck himself, Beard did what any man would do.
And thus Pharasma gets involved.

As for the Strength of a soul, basically its implied that souls are made strong by being closer to an abstract concept than a person.
Good aligned souls become stronger the closer they are to the idea of pure good.
Chaotic Evil souls can survive the fall into the Abyss if they're enough of a Megacunt that it welcomes them with open arms.
Basically being Bobby the Farmer who don't give no fucks 'bout nuthin' but turnips? His soul is pretty weak, probably gonna become a practitioner and not a strong one at that.
If Bobby has two sons, Bobby Jr 1st who becomes a Crusader of the Farm God and burns down a bunch of fishing villages because fuck fishermen, Turnips are the one true path and Bobby Jr 2: Electric Farmerloo who revolutionizes the cropping industry by creating a new turbo turnip and saves millions from starvation, both of them are closer to true alignments (NE and LG respectively) and thus stronger 'spirits'

Having a reasonable number of options to solve a decent percentage of problems with a moderate-to-good chance of success. For instance: I love the Barbarian Rage Powers, the Paladin Mercies, the Rogue Talents, etc. I'd absolutely go crazy if DSP created a sort of "create-an-initiator" that allowed you to pick about 4 disciplines, your initiating attribute, some extra bits like Rage/Sneak Attack/Monk Damage/etc. That'd be a dream come true.

That's the thing, there's 2 versions of how it can go down for atheists in Golarion.
If you're a moderately decent person and didn't really do much you go to the spiritual equivalent of unclaimed baggage, which is a surprisingly nice place, Pharasma runs it and its pretty much just a peaceful pseudo-heaven without being urged to jihad against demons and shit.

Its only if you're an atheist and a massive vehement cunt about it that your salt is enough to repel Nom-nom-moon and so you have to not just be an atheist, but a faggot about it, to get bad ending.

oh no, see, if any demons find out about your room? they're going to smash the statues (to gain the favor of the imprisoned succubi), and then after those succubi reform back in hell you're going to have a troupe of SUPREMELY angry devils with connections (via soul trade, blackmail, political schmoozing, etc.) to bring to bear against you--in roundabout ways, since they know you're manipulative and stoneflesh-happy.

According to Beyond the Vault of Souls, its less a matter of being unaware as those that deny him wholesale, it repels him, their furious belief in FUCK YOU DAD keeps him in orbit.
And basically you need a few gems to keep him up there, less than 100 while one is thrown his way every so often to push him back to the outer rim of his orbit (since gravity, entropy, can't stay up there forever, whatever.)

Thing is, the souls of TRUE atheists that think like that are so rare that losing even 20 such stones is enough to tip the balance to the point where Groetus is coming in like its Majoras Mask all up in this bitch, which heavily implies people like that are very, very few and far between.
Maybe if you collected 1000 or 2000 souls like that you could create a field that'd keep him up there forever, who knows.

Question for anyone who's played/playing a Warder:
How the fuck do you roleplay the application and use of Armiger's Mark?
What the hell could you possibly do to cause the dick-ass thief to think "Hmm, I can't seem to maintain my focus very well when I try to attack anyone but this giant mass of metal that dares call itself a living person."
It's not magical, and the creatures are even aware of being marked.

You don't just have to be an atheist, you have to hate the gods, deny them with a passion that borders on delusion or be arrogant enough to deny that sometimes, you kind of need a little outside help.
And you gotta be frothing about it, to the point where your opinion becomes a weight on reality.

Basically the point where you become what a Cleric/Paladin of a god is to a follower, but for Atheism, is the point where you become Groetus-noms.

At the very basics, it should rely on one mental and one physical stat, and have enough baked-in stuff that I can choose any fighting style and still be able to contribute both in and outside combat in fairly broad terms, like social skills, damage, mobility, or general buffs. Optimization and archetypes would hopefully focus more on niche stuff like using people as weapons or jumping onto people to stab them harder, rather than just increasing my numbers, although that's also nice.
>>
>>43831820
i generally see the bard/alchemist/inquisitor pointed to as fairly well-balanced--they have their specific shtick (performance, bombs/mutagens, and judgment respectively), can perform moderately well in a variety of situations, and are good at what they aim to do straight out of the box. they CAN be hyper-optimized, but it's not required to function (unlike, say, the core monk/rogue, which both required a PhD in system mastery and were rather mediocre even then compared to other classes, outside of a few archetype combinations)
>>
>>43831570
To clarify, the demon/devil dichotomy is purely arbitrary (even within those categories they do not look even remotely related; balors and pit fiends are practically the same thing). It is a result of Gygaxian autism trying to force everything to fit into the alignment system. The biblical, medieval and modern concepts of hell cover both types and beyond.

Why is a cosmology not defined by planescape's blood war so hard for some people to imagine that they must denigrate any and all heresy?
>>
>>43831570

Those differences were added long after their original appearance to justify their alignments and separatism. Even then they still have more similarities than differences. This article explains it best: http://archive.wizards.com/DnD/Article.aspx?x=dnd/drdd/20070924

If you remove the alignment part and let daemons, demons and devils be of any evil alignment... there really isn't much of a reason to keep them separate. Sure, you could keep the hierarchies under the archdevils and demon princes and horsemen, but there isn't any reason for demonic breeds to be limited to one hierarchy. You could have archdevils with succubus consorts and derghodaemon soldiers. Which to me sounds more interesting than Golarion canon.

Ok, I've been called upon to right up an introduction to my campaign setting for my club to use in a megacampaign. Look it over, tell me what you think, what parts are the most interesting, whatever. It's an overview to try to get people to figure out which in-depth intros to the different parts they want to read. Prepare for a bunch of posts.

Eleutheria had long been a cautionary tale about the dangers of democracy. It maintained the ancient rights of its citizens to choose their own laws and leaders. What became of it? A single city that ruled itself only because it had the good fortune to be built on an unassailable island. An unstable city, where tyrants ruled more often than not. That is no longer the case. The great reformer Eunomos took power there by the will of the people, and his reforms brought stability to his nation for the first time in centuries. All of a sudden, democracy did not seem to be madness.

The merchant class of the old world needed no more encouragement to demand new rights of their own. The empire of the Taralings had long allowed its lords to elect an emperor from among their own number, but all others had been forced to kneel down before the throne. The burghers demanded the right to choose their own leaders, and heretics rose up and demanded the right to preach independently of the landed churches. Some were content to beg for concessions, but others claimed their rights by force. The merchants of Grottenburg crucified their own lord on their city's docks and declared their city to be a free republic. The imperial throne could do nothing against them, for the emperor's powers no longer extended beyond the reach of his army. Now each lord rules as best he can, and makes war on his neighbors as he pleases.
>>
>>43831746
No sign of Book 4 of Hell's Rebels?
>>
>>43832686

The empire cannot fight a civil war on its on. Many lords looked to their northern neighbors, the kingdom of the Pomani, for allies. The Pomani were their distant kin, ruled by a grand prince who was elected by the nobility. The imperial lords found mercenaries among the Pomani, but not allies. The Pomani nobles had a long tradition of demanding new rights from the princes, and many among them felt more sympathy for the budding republics than for an emperor. Even so, the Pomani are not free from the changes that are sweeping across the old world. Their old faiths are dying, and their people are flocking to new religions that preach enlightenment and mastery over the world rather than faith in gods.

The men who call themselves the Fiandwyn likewise find a place in the empire as mercenaries, for they can find more wealth and glory fighting in that war than in raiding each other. They have no great stake in the civil strife itself, for although they are ruled by sacred kings who are crowned through ancient rites, each man also has the right to speak and argue in their clan's court. Nor do they care for the religious strife that has brought so many people to blows. They have no time for care for any faith save their own, for the Fiandwyn contend with fey creatures who give blessings and curses in equal measure. Men who can bargain with such powerful beings have little use for prayer.
>>
>>43832548
Such a situation is still considered exceptional rather than routine. The hierarchies are treated as monolithic power blocs with their own planes of existence. There is no cosmopolitan presentation of hell where the three races are divided into numerous factions that may ally with factions of other races.
>>
>>43832664
Does that actually function the way I think it would?
Like, if I use Cartwheel Axe Kick, it suddenly works with my weapon, or does it just let me use the unarmed attack even though I have the weapon in my hand?
>>
>>43832709

Only the kingdom of the Vassacae remains aloof from the conflict. Their king is a prudent man, and he sends his nation's dissidents and plotters forth into the world with royal charters to seek their fortune in foreign lands. That has been enough to maintain an uneasy peace between the rising merchants and the falling nobility, for although neither group knows its place in the changing world, they have not come to blows. The great churches remain concerned that their flocks are falling into heresy, but as long as those heretics are likewise sent to distant lands, they are content to keep their inquisitions discrete.

The old world has long traded with the Dodekapotamon, for that land is rich with gold and precious stones. The route over the mountains and through the desert into that land was long and dangerous, but the rewards were great. It is a land of rivers and dozens of small cities that have grown up around them. To stray into the lands away from the rivers is to invite death, either at the hands of nature itself or from the monsters that dwell in them.

Imperial strife has made the trek into the Dodekapotamon even more dangerous. The Grottenburg merchants sought an easier way, a way that did not require them to pass through the empire, and so they chartered an expedition to cross the ocean to the west and seek a sea route. Remmer Hesken led the voyage, and although he failed in his task, he succeeded in one that was far greater. He found a new world.
>>
>>43832731

He landed among the people who call themselves the Caquetoc, who live in great cities that are ruled by their priests. Their warriors bind themselves either to their gods or to the spirits of the wilds, and they seek to empower themselves and their spirits through great deeds in war. They fight as much for the sake of fighting as for any other reason, and they rejoice in honorable bloodshed.

Mountains rise up from the continent, and an empire has risen up from those mountains. The Custi seek freedom from the cycle of reincarnation through meditation and alchemy, giving rise to a noble class that has passed beyond life and death. Their enlightened alchemists govern in their emperor's name, and they are served by a vast bureaucracy. Even so, the empire is far from unified, for although all among them kneel to the throne, many would rather see themselves sit upon it.

The northern reaches of the new world are poor and cold, and they are populated only by small tribal federations. They have felt the brunt of the old world's colonial efforts, for they could not resist conquest with the strength of the south. Some tribes fight, some tribes trade, and some tribes submit, but none can maintain their old ways any longer.

The new world is riddled with growing colonies. No nation has ignored it, for to do so is to invite poverty and weakness. Some go to the colonies to seek wealth, others glory, and still others freedom. They are dangerous places, but they offer great rewards.

Those colonies are not restricted to the new world. The boldest explorers have found rites that allow for passage to the innumerable planes of existence, and they seek to settle upon them. Those planes have responded in kind, and the influence of angels, devils, and stranger beings can be felt in the world. Some seek servants, some seek knowledge, and some seek only to trade.
>>
>>43832755

Those outsiders are the future of mortality, just as mortality is the future of the outsiders. Few can escape from the great wheel of reincarnation. Some men claim that the gods can pluck their favored servants from the wheel, while others say that enlightenment offers an escape. All agree that few can escape from the cycle altogether, and that none can escape the influence of their past lives upon their souls.
There we go. What do you guys think, as a general world introduction?
>>
>>43832728
There's no reason that can't happen though, even if it is exceptional.
>>
>>43832729
You can always use an unarmed strike with full hands anyway. Broken Blade just has a dumb restriction to discipline weapons, which the feat allows you to bypass.

So your cartwheel kick would still be an unarmed strike, but any strike that doesn't specify them would work with the rapier.

I recommend something not Broken Blade, honestly. Scarlet Throne+Mithral Current is really nice.
>>
>>43832805
The sheathing/unsheathing thing doesn't really work for me too well if I'm going to be fencing with a Rapier.
I also don't have any way to actually gain access to Mithral Current without that series of feats, I think. Not really sure.
>>
>>43831619

>>
>>43832827

The unorthodox method trait allows you to swap a discipline for it, and you can always get a free swap with the tradition. Fair enough, though.

Mostly I recommend against Broken Blade because it's overtuned, and I personally think there are cooler discs. Riven Hourglass is super cool as well, and fits a speedy fencer.
>>
>>43832347
>Those differences were added long after their original appearance to justify their alignments and separatism
So what? Yes, alignments are theoretically supposed to mean something.

>Even then they still have more similarities than differences
When compared to mortals maybe, but the differences in their motives isn't insignificant. Under normal circumstances they're simply not going to get along, because they are too different.

>Which to me sounds more interesting than Golarion canon.

"Sheathing" for the purposes of MC can be anything from sheathing to just putting it in an obviously nonthreatening position.

As a fencer, I can say that lowering your sword to help invite an attack before stabbing them when they do is definitely a valid strategy.
>>
>>43833099
The specific text:

>A weapon is considered sheathed if it is in a non-threatening position, such as a monk putting their hands at their sides or in their pockets, a spear wielder pointing the tip of their spear into the ground, a soulknife with an unformed mind blade, or even a samurai keeping their katana in its sheath. The terminology of sheathing the weapon is only intended to serve as a shorthand for any number of ways a warrior can present themselves as non-threatening with their weapon.

>I'm still having a hard time following your actual point, it sounds like you just want a different system but you haven't actually bothered to learn anything about the current Pathfinder lore.
I have read the lore. "Both species are extraplanar forces of evil that seek souls to supplement their numbers. Each breed has wretched and implike creatures at the bottom of the hierarchy and godlike archfiends at the top. Each member of both species has a wide array of similar (and often superfluous) supernatural powers. Most demons and devils are superior to members of typical PC races in every way, including incredible intelligence. Their purposes in the material world have always been similar." "While demons seek to pervert and destroy in endless unholy rampages, and devils vex and enslave in hopes of corrupting mortals, daemons seek only to consume mortal life itself."

They're still enemies that are trying to kill you. The biblical concept of hell covers all three. So if I'm going to include them at all, why not put them in the same dungeon?
