Just got my bits from Maxmini for my desert warriors. Really pleased with them.
>>43581130
The desert patrol so far. I have a commissar in one of my boxes somewhere, so I'll be able to use these guys for Kill Team
>>43581145
Fucking love commissars, do him first! I don't play guard but collect commissars anyway. I've got the imperial primer/power fist guy on his way to me now. Lord commissars are cool too.
>>43581221
I actually have three of them lying about. One bolt pistol/whip, one plasma pistol/power sword, and one Lord Commisar with a power fist and sword.
Perfect to inspire my Imperial Muhajadeen.
>>43581221
>>43581240
Speaking of the Commisars, I'm debating whether to paint their coats in a desert tan like the rest of my troops or keep them the traditional black. A big black trench coat is probably not a good idea in a desert.
>>43581252
Well, commissars come straight from the schola and often dress different depending on their regiment but generally they do wear something to indicate their rank. Perhaps just doing the in a golden trim will be enough
is there any store that sells helmets like pic related? I thought FW did, but I can't find them on their website anymore
Brown Troglodon guy reposting from previous thread. I've finally finished the guy. This kig is a blast (though not as much as the stegadon), and the brown choice was a perfect advice. Thanks to the kind anon who suggested it.

Hey guys, I'm about to be repainting a whole bunch of shitty space marines I painted terribly a few years ago once they're done stewing in simple green. I'm also about to be painting a bunch of WWII figures, so I've got a lot of drab green, grey, and khaki paints. Can anyone suggest a chapter that uses any of those colors?
Also, any tips for painting space marines for someone who has basically no clue what they're doing?
Working on Skullcannon. The red parts are finished, maybe I'll add tiny extreme highlights on some edges too.

Here is a potatoe picture of a ravenwing command bike. I did an Ironbreaker Base with two layers of Naggaroth Night purple. I have only done one layer of yellow trim and yellow/white detail.
I am using a Soul Drinker color scheme and was wondering if I should paint my other bikes purple or more yellow.
My marines are going to be purple as well and I was wondering if it would be too much.

Just look up, and see if you like the fluff.
I got a 40K Combined Mechanicus Mars themed army and some 30k Mechanicum as well. I am working on a display board for them right now which i intend to enter into next years armys on parade when it comes around.
I will post pics in a few hours when lighting will allow it.
Now I really want to add some titans to my tech priests and I could get a decent deal on two of the old Lucius Pattern Warhounds which i actually like really well.
Only problem is I am superbly autistic about the army's theme and i am not sure if or why Mars would have Titans that they actually have their own pattern for from another Forgeworld.
Would this make any sense fluff wise?
Help me defeat my autism /tg/.

Command squad box and Vanguard vet have one each. The Vanguard one is a tad pointier.
Venerable Dreadnought has one with a slightly lower neckline. It is the best rendition of the three in my opinion.
>>43581601
Really well painted, crisp, nice scheme. Only negative for me is the base, imo it feels too bare and lacks something.
>>43581252
a commissar's sign of rank is their red sash. Otherwise, they can dress in the gear of their adoptive chapter, although most choose to keep their normal kit since it makes them more visible to the soldiers they are meant to inspire.

how do you paint half-and-half color schemes?
Posted him last thread, didnt see a response, anyone have any advice on doing the hazard stripes?
>>43585605
I'd say if you have to ask, you are probably going to hate yourself before even done a single squad.
Otherwise, to paint a half and half colour scheme such as this, you simply paint one half the one colour and the other half the other colour. Sounds dumb, but here we are.

Taymia modeling tape
Got a question. I'm prepping my Ta'unar for painting and whatnot, but then I saw its base. It's this gigantic perfectly circular base. Never seen a base that size before. Measured it to be 6.25 inches in diameter, so roughly 160mm in diameter.
Anyone seen places that sell scenic 160mm / 6.25in circular bases? None of the usual places I buy from have bases that are over the standard monstrous creature base or knight base. I don't want to use the pleb base it came with.
Alright so I've tried the technique in pic related several times, but each time I get mutt led colors and absolutely no shine to it. Alternate options or tricks to make colored metals work well?
>>43585923
Help if I attached the picture.

How big is she compered to other models?
Does she come as a solid lump or metal or in bits?
I'm going to start KoW Basileans. They have Elohi which are 54mm giant angels and I want to create a theme for them.
Roman legionnaires with 54mm gladiators or Samurai with 54mm samurai?

Prime the Tag in pieces using the colors you want. Water down your bases and apply over the primer. Wash. Done. Tag are incredibly easy to paint. Once you get a base down you can go to an LGS, introduce yourself to someone and ask them to apply a coat of paint to the small stuff for a couple bucks while they're there. Don't let them take your miniatures home, you may never see them again.

hi /tg/, I recently invested in a platoon of death korps of krieg as well as a couple of forgeworld russes, and i'm wondering how to paint my tanks.
my colour scheme for the infantry is just light grey coats with brown leathers, so that doesnt lend itself very well to a unifying theme with vehicles. can you reccomend any colours? I'm leaning towards something like this.

Basic grey knight head holy shit man.
Hey gang,
Looking for some opinions, painting my Warzone: Resurrection Bauhaus army for an upcoming convention event and I'm painting them up martian style, so I wanted some thoughts from people about camo patterns. Should I limit it to the armour plates, the fatigues or extend it to both?
Thus far I've gone for citadel xv-88/snakebite leather for the armour and a dark red mix I made from some rhinox hide, and old pot of blood red and a bit of khorne red. For the pattern itself I'll be using reddish-browns, sandy yellows, mid tone browns and red, probably a muted red at that.
So gents, any thoughts?
>>43588177
Be sure to pick out all the tiny details like belt buckles and such, it really brings a model to life and shouldn't take long.
The color scheme itself is fine. I'd probably go with dark blue lenses myself with this scheme.
>>43588198
Yep, I'll definitely make sure to pick out straps and buckles, I've only just wrapped up the base coat on his armour and uniform. As for the face those aren't goggles, I'm sorry my lighting isn't enough to pick out the face detail but there're eyes in there.
>>43588223

Anon, I had the same problem. My trick is keeping my wrists pressed together, and my elbows on the table, it really helps stabilize everything. For the bases, I do the interior of a shipdeck. Just spray Leadbealcher, then wash, and Drybrush if you want. Looks good, and isn't too hard
>>43588889
Buying snow powder from a different manufacturer?
First Scion I plan on using for my renegades. Tried my hand at colored metals through many, many washes of red. Thoughts? Plan on giving it a coat of duller if its a bit too shiny now. Also considering giving a few brighter highlights, but it is for Vraks, so duller tones suit them a bit more.
>>43589024
i like the gold metals, but i think theyd pair better against a lighter colour, or a lighter shade of red.
i think you need a brighter colour to offset the dark red, dark gold and dark grey. maybe bright blue/green eyes and bright colours on the hoses. i'm working on some old kasrkin models i got and i'm using black armour, white fatigues, red eyes and bright blues/oranges for the hoses
>>43589048
Think going with a "reflection" effect on the metal from the plasma gun would brighten it up? A light dry brush of telcis blue would achieve that effect, but I'm unsure if it would clash with the current scheme.
>>43588692
>>43588707

On a side note when I went to the local hobby store (like arts and crafts) in my area to get acrylic brushes the smallest on was this 10 spotter and it just seems so huge for smaller details.
Also my biker's helmet look like garbage. I wanted to give him red eyes but can't fathom how without making him a clown.
I stil haven't washed/glazed anything and the biker isn't attached as I still have more layers to do on him.

Maybe Leadbelcha with a drybrush copper?
Or black once your get the paint for your wheels.

Silvers go really well with purple and white/bone. Those are plasma talons though, you're kind of doing it wrong if you aren't doing a glow effect on the cooling coils.
>>43589273
red was actually Runefang silver with about 4 washes of carroburg crimson, then a wash of nuln oil, finally drybrushed just a bit of a 50/50 mix of khorne red and administratum grey. Bit of a chore, but I'm happy with the result.
>>43589128

You might want to cut some vents, as >>43591838 suggested.
I'm not sure how this piece attaches to the model it's supposed to go on (Lizardman or Tomb King, I'm guessing), but if you cut some vents that lead to places that are going to be concealed, you can just file or break off the excess when you are done.
It does take a little bit of forethought - something I myself find that I don't always have.

The Lord Executioner, Reszasz Krevaan.
Vanilla Captain/Chapter Master to gear with C:SM and RG relics from Kauyon.
Had a wash after base colours down, just about to start highlighting, which I always find intimidating. Done a little bit so far on the pauldrons..

They were joking on Still Untitled about Jet Packs recently, based on that Arab Emirates Air commercial with the jet packs, Adam Savage riffing about like 400% mortality rates, pretty funny shit.
>>43585340
Yea it should work fine, I mean what good would an airbrush be if it couldn't even do a basecoat. Not sure about which colors to use, Im assuming you mean the game air range? bloody red and hot orange maybe?
Putting together some Bloodletters. Congo line of Khorne looking fine right now.

I immediately regret trying the earthshade, the rest of my whites will be washed with Nulin Oil,
This has taken most of my extra free time over the last two days. (~2-3 hours?)
It is looking alright besides the minor details, a base, and the 2detailed4me banner.
I need to figure out how to paint efficiently.
Still need:
5 more command bikes, each unique
Stick my interregator chaplin on a bike
6 regular Ravenwing bikes
4 land speeders

Still not the best camera but from what I can tell you are looking good.
Don't get hung up about how much more you have to do because it can always be worse.
You are a new player who isn't fielding a grey blob of terribleness.
I would give your paint job a 6/10 but A+ for effort.
Remember a "tabletop minimum" is three colors. I see at least five there.
In >>43589128 you said
>...give him red eyes but can't fathom how without making him a clown.
You just need to find a smaller brush. If your art store doesnt carry one than look online.
>>43596036
I'll try to get a better setup for him, probably tomorrow. Kinda just working with what I've got.
I'm interested in joining this hobby. In terms of paint, what should I get? Are there any good "starter sets" available?
Got the rest of the unit done up, onto eyes later this evening and waiting for painters tape
>>43589128
The lenses are one of the first things you should paint on a marine after basecoating it, then clean up around it
>>43596362
Should I bother to do an Ironbreaker base since the metallic purple method I was trying didn't work?
I am not going to pursue a metallic metal anymore since I already have one guy 80% done.
My Khorne Daemonkin buddy just primed all his stuff red and did gold/white/black detail. His look almost as good and took like no time.
I am regretting the grey primer, I think I missed a few spots on my last model because I couldn't tell the difference between the plastic.
If I could find a purple primer it would probably look WAY more even and I am sure the yellow would go over it just fine. Not sure about the white and then I would actually have to do all the metal on the pipe again.
Its a thought, especially for the non-command unit of bikes.
Posted this guys spear conversion a few threads ago pre-painting, just finished painting him tonight so thought I would share. It's the first model I've done after a 12 year break from the hobby, how did it go anons
>>43596752
Army Painter does colour primers and they have pic related. Might be something for you.
Also, yellow does not go over *anything* just fine.
>>43596840
A tip for the yellow would be to paint a suitable undertone (grey or something) and then layer the yellow on top of that. Layering yellow on pretty much anything is hell with but a few exceptions.
>>43596810
Cool model but the base really doesn't work for it. Consider doing jungle for contrast or drab so it doesn't catch the eye so much
>>43596810
Clean up the washed areas, especially on the left elbow and hand. Some of the gems need some more blending as well.
Most of the gems and the blue and white came out very well, as did the blade. But those messy washes on such a large model really give off a "easy mode airbrush" vibe when it's on such a large model, like you just rushed into airbrushing and ignored your paintbrush technique. No excuse for not tidying up such large panels.
A highlight and a bit more snow and deatiling on the base will really finish the model but it's also good as is.
>>43596944
>>43596999
Thanks for the input, the elbow bit you mention I guess you're referring to the joint bit where the forearm connects right?
>>43597233
Yeah the washed area looks a bit thick. Generally if you're going to do a pin wash like that, but it ends up being a bit thicker than just the cracks, people will tend to go back with the normal paint and cover up the excess wash.
If you want "more" "washed area", you should try blending or simple gradients, because a thick band of wash looks messy.
If you like thin lines of pinpoint wash, an easy and fast way to do so without having to waste time carefully making sure the wash doesn't touch anywhere above the cracks or having to go back over the washed area with touch up paint, you can gloss the model, then do the wash. The gloss protects the surface and makes the wash run and dry only in the cracks. Adding a tiny drop of dish soap to your wash bottles also helps the wash flow into cracks.
You might have already known all this since by your paintjob I can tell you're not some clueless novice, but that was just to clarify what I meant by the washed parts needing cleaning. That's not to say it's a messy wash, it's a clean model, but it could be cleaner.
>>43597328
From your second photo it looks like it might not be a wash but your basecoat? So you did like a darker blue underneath then a lighter blue on top. You could try to paint further to the edges with the light blue or try some glaze or other way to blend the transition together. Reason being this method is more glaring to the eye on such a large model. It works well for small infantry though.

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING ANON
WHAT
THE
FUCK
>>43597385
To be fair those shitty reaper bone figures specifically boast about how they don't require primer.
>>43588677
>>43585936
Because this person suggests using every god damn wash at once. When doing a colour, leave out the brown and black washes or thin them heavily and only apply near the cracks and edges. Obviously you lose all the colour if you cover it with browns and blacks. This person probably just did way thinner coats per wash than you. Thin with Lahmain medium (or just go get a matte medium at a craft place) not water.
>>43597464
That guy's a moron in general. Washes are inferior to glazes for coloring metallic. And Citadel even has colored glazes for all those washes he's suggesting. Tamiya Clear is best for tinting.
You also shouldn't need nuln or agrax for either washing or pinwashing since the WASH this guy suggested is already doing that job for you.
>>43594895
Raven guard successor homebrew: Nighttide Tempests. Here's a older pic before i changed the weapon coulours. Brown didn't look too good.

>>43586886
I've heard a lot of bad shit about BTP.
>>43597350
Yeah it's the base coat coming through, but the wash could be cleaner too so it's a combo of the both, I'm going to sit him down and touch up with my lighter blue and see if it's any better
Anyone know a 3rd party bitseller, that has heads similar to the ones you'd find on a Reaver Jetbike? The glossy dome type? I need about 30 of them for mine, but they cost like 8 bucks for 2

i'm painting a russ at the moment, using a lot of thin coats heavily thinned with water. I paint under a regular desk lamp that gets a bit warm- can I put the lamp right over my russ so the heat will dry the paint faster, or will this fuck it up in some way?
>>43597885
If they are as thin as you say they should only take ~5 minutes to dry.
>>43597982
How thin are you thinning your paints that they dry in five minutes.
>>43597385
I've worked on some that didn't even take primer well.
>>43597885
probably would be better off with a fan.
>>43597851
Step one: Base of Nagaroth Night over a black primer.
Step two: Dab with lucius lilac (it will look a bit bright a this stage)
step three: glaze with druchii violet to darken it.
And done
When dabbing it really helps to use a splayed out brush that you don't mind ruining.
>>43597682
>Anyone know a 3rd party bitseller, that has heads similar to the ones you'd find on a Reaver Jetbike? The glossy dome type? I need about 30 of them for mine, but they cost like 8 bucks for 2
Huh... for that price, you might consider making them yourself!
>>43598251
Ah I see, I may try it with my Landspeeder Darkshroud , it looks really cool man.
I was thinking of picking up the Lucius lilac to try and fail miserably at some edge highlights on my bikes.
Also need the Druchii Violet, is that a glaze or a wash?
My local GW employee told me to mix the Blue and Red glaze and put it over ironbreaker and that ended up being a lavender after 5 layers.
>>43598345
Its actually a part of the shade range. My bad.
I would recommend testing it on a spare part to see if it works with your colour scheme first

Is that the metallic you're using for all your IWs, or is it a more raw, grubbier version that is supposed to look scorched 'cause radiation?
Seriously beautiful, cannot wait to see them.
>>43589128
Asked this in the 40k thread but may be more warranted here:
Keeping with this scheme should I make him all yellow? His bike would still be the same purple bike that are all getting.
Bonus round - how the fuck do I paint a Sammael with this scheme without looking like a Jetbiking Minnesotan?
>>43595324
Anon, please do not wash your entire white sections. Use precision and it will look much better.
so this isnt the final turret i'm going to use but what do you think of it? (The reason im not keeping it is because i printed with .3mm layer height but I do like the profile of it.) I think it needs to be more tiger 2 like, Opinions and comments are welcome.
