One studio in particular is very aggressive with DMCA takedown notices. Fortunately, we have just what the doctor ordered. Links to their new content (usually referred to as viruses ITT) will be purposely difficult to download initially, but will be quickly added to the main folders with the rest. This is the only way we can share this content without it being taken down almost immediately.

Input the URL of your server (eg. http://192.168.1.1:8096") and username from emby. Username can be found by clicking the little man on the top right corner of the web interface. The URL will say something like userId=1234a456sd654f68gf65
select the alpha-numeric stuff after “userID=”.
Next, select the "Retrieve JSON From Server" button in the middle below the large table. If it works you should have populated the above table with File ID's on the left and File Names on the right.
Finally, hit the “Generate MVRL Files” button. Select the folder in which to save your MVRL's files.

Videos ITT are generally in one of the following formats (in order of quality):
>OCULUS
>GEAR VR
>CARDBOARD/SMARTPHONE/MOBILE (non-Gear VR smartphones)
Higher quality files (OCULUS) are preferred as they can easily be converted down.
FOR ALL VR PLATFORMS: Videos in the newer h.265 format that will not play correctly can be converted to h.264 with Handbrake. h.264 will be selected as the default encoding option when you open the application.
TO CONVERT OCULUS VIDEOS FOR GEAR/CARDBOARD/MOBILE:

How do I play NA "deskop" videos on oculus with correct distortion settings?
The only video player that somewhat works is maxvr but it hasn't been updated since the dev disappeared and it's performance sucks so badly it doesn't reach the necessary frame rate. (You use 'master dome' rotated by 90deg downwards)
I normally use virtual desktop but it doesn't have any distortion setttings.
VRplayer (the old one) doesn't work at all (hasn't been updated since DK1)
How is NA expecting us to play their desktop versions at all?

Scaling can't really be fixed at all.
People look like giants in NA videos because they are using a camera system with a lens distance that is significantly smaller than human IPDs.
It's probably a rig made originally for 3D movies which has a smaller lens distance on purpose to make everything look larger than life so to give it more "pop".

Zoom in/out will make it look like you are looking through binoculars (or their reverse side) but the scale will still appear to be wrong.
Stereo convenance will change the apparent distance to the virtual screen which should be at infinity.
The reason why these tweaks won't work is because lens distance affects occlusion differences that can't be changed without knowledge about what the scene would look like from another angle.
In theory you could do '3D reconstruction from stereoscopy' render the resulting point-cloud as a textured mesh animation and extrapolate the content at the occlusion boundaries.
This is no simple matter...

Neither of those sites are scams; one is just licensing content from the other. The thing to be aware of is that anything labelled "cinematic" on VRB is not 180x180 stereoscopic "VR" porn but is instead just 2D stuff designed to be viewed in a VR environment.
The quality of the VR stuff isn't great though in my opinion as they haven't ironed out all the technical kinks (it's difficult and often impossible to focus on what you want to focus on).

I don't know how many others are using iPhones, but one of the recent updates to Mobile VR Station added a FOV setting that lets you basically zoom in, so when the scaling is off and the woman is too small, you can just change the FOV and make her life size. Really great addition IMO. Sometimes when you zoom you can see a noticeable drop in quality, but its better than nothing.

Just download it and transfer the file (quick and easy to test). If it doesn't work, handbrake it.
From my experience though, handbraking takes a long time without a fast computer and is just annoying when you want to download and watch the video. I upgraded my phone because of this.
If you don't mind the handbrake time though or budget constraints, would recommend upgrading to gearVR instead, immersion difference is HUGE.

H.265 isn't the problem. The Gear VR versions that HG release are H.265 as well. It's the resolution that is the problem. While Gear VR phones have H.265 hardware decoding, they can't handle the 3840x3840 of the Oculus versions.
If you want to stick with H.265 so you can enjoy the benefit of much smaller file sizes for the same quality then these HG Oculus clips can be reencoded at a lower resolution such as 2560x2560. The only downside is that it takes longer than H.264.

This is a format problem. You have to format the card as NTFS not FAT32. It is the same for USB drives etc. FAT32 cannot handle single files larger than 4Gig while NTFS does not have this restriction.

You have to clear the Mega cache in your browser. If you're using Chrome paste this into your browser:

If you're in the middle of a download this will make it have to start over, so do it when you're about to start a new one.

That guide has been around for a while and tested by many people, it definitely works. You must have done something wrong. The only obvious thing I can think of that it might be is if you're using a Note 4 but used 2560 anyway instead of 2160. If it's not that you'll have to try it again, making sure you follow all the steps exactly.
Is the cardboard version for 1080p phones? While the gearvr version is for 1440p phones? So if I'm using google cardboard with my 1440p phone, which one do i pick? lol

I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with a BOBOVR Z4 (cardboard type headset). I've downloaded some gearvr videos and followed the handbrake instructions, it seems to play just fine. But I'm trying to find the balance between quality and file size, will I be able to tell the difference between cardboard and gearvr? Do people watch their videos wired to their PC? (Therefore, don't have to worry about file size?) Or over wifi? (Does it lag?)
I know these are things that I can experiment myself, but it would be great to know the common practices around here.(Also would save me some time and bandwidth) :)

First, I have to recommend that you get a GearVR. It's usually a hard sell for people since they'd have to get a new phone but you wouldn't. The internal sensors independent of the phone make a world of difference, and it would just make things much more convenient for you.
Anyway, it will probably be very difficult to find the "common practices" for a setup like yours, since most people here with a Note 4 will also be using GearVR. But I don't see why you wouldn't be able to play the GearVR videos. It could depend on what player you're using, but I'm not really sure.
I can definitely tell the difference between 1080p & 1440p videos, I'm sure you will be able to also.
I don't know of a way to do it wired to your PC but I use MVRL Maker to stream videos over wifi:

Oh, forgot you asked about lag. That all depends on your router. I know because I have a horrible upload speed but stream videos just fine. It's because they don't go through the internet, just your wifi. When I first tried it it was choppy and I thought it was because of my slow internet, but then I got the idea to move closer to my router without any walls in the way and it was perfect. So I just got a repeater to give myself better coverage in the rest of my house & it's still fine with no lag.

Yes in the sense that GearVR offers worse image quality than the headset you already have...
The sensors are only important for games. The touch interface is more convenient but the video software is worse, so it comes down to if you want the convenience of a touch interface vs having better image quality and more mature video software. If you're only watching porn and want the most visible image at the highest quality possible, then GearVR is bad choice. If not, it could work for you. Just keep in mind that switching to GearVR will give you the same FOV as the previous gen cardboard headsets with the previous gen lens quality.

You should definitely get the sd card if you can't get streaming set up properly, but others with non-samsung smartphones have talked about using Trinus VR so I know it can be done.
Yes you can use the touchpad for all that but I use a bluetooth controller. It works with SamsungVR (formerly MilkVR), and also lets you use the right analog stick to re-center the video as its playing.
Yes with MVRL Maker every video on your PC is displayed within SamsungVR. I only wish they would add folder support because it gets to be a jumbled mess with over a thousand videos to scroll through. But there is a seek bar at the bottom you can use to jump to to different spots, so it's managable. You quickly get a good idea where on the bar the videos that start with H are, for example. And with a controller it's not that bad since you don't have to keep swiping the touchpad.
Yes, with the S7 (and I'm sure the Note 7 also) you can play all Oculus files (except HG ones) without Handbraking them at all.

Yeah, I've heard of TrinusVR too. From what I've seen, it seems like more of a screen mirroring application than a media player...I'll give it a try when I have time.
It seems like many VR players have this problem, they lack a VR file explorer of some sort.
I'm currently using VR Player Pro, it's the best VR player I've tried so far. It allows you to custom bind your bluetooth controller buttons, which is quite handy considering the amount of projection options (Plane, Sphere, Dome, Full Dome, Cylinder, Cube) and format (2D, 3D SBS, 3D Over/Under) they have.
Again, for me it's not so much of I can't play the files it's more about the file size lol Downloading oculus files is a waste of bandwidth/time for me, since I would have to handbrake it down to 50fps and make it 2880x1440 to save space (This process can take hours, since I use 2-Pass encoding + "Slower" x264 Preset).

The visible pixels are due to the fewer and less dense subpixels in Samsung's OLED screen. One guy in the other thread said he saw more pixels in his new 1440p Samsung than his old 1080p LCD...

Same as you. BoboVR Z4 but with a Moto X Force. I briefly used an S6 with the GearVR but couldn't justify the pixelation when I tried my friend's 1440p LCD. Hi, I tried using Emby to stream videos from my computer to SamsungVR(Formerly known as MilkVR) because I got sick of my videos taking up the most space on the external microSD(128GB).

I can't help you with emby but I've had none of those problems with nginx (mvrl maker). Unless someone else knows how to fix your issues you might want to give it a try.
Nevermind, it seems the cause of my problems(low quality, unable to fast forward/rewind) was because I used heavykick's MilkVRLauncher to stream videos. Using the MVRL files generated by "Emby MVRL File Generator"(>>722001) solved both of my problems. Now there is no need to have a bunch of large files on my phone anymore.

I figured out how to get the resolution data out of emby so now it will auto-generate the correct format information in the mvrl file. It should work for 99% of all the videos.
If you find any that it doesn't work on, let me know which ones so i can work on the detection between the different formats. Anyway, enjoy.

In "VR"/180° Videos, the whole Video (in this case, 3400x1700) is surrounding you, and the Display of the mobile phone only shows the area you're looking at - so higher resolution means more quality, 1080p 180° Videos look like DVD resolution because you practically zoom in to a certain area of the movie. Ever since I updated to Windows 10, I can't run over/under videos. They freeze or just barely lag along. It worked fine in Windows 7.

I myself own a Galaxy S4, 1080p OLED pentile Display. It only runs 1080p 30fps Videos, so everything looks very zoomed in. A modern phone with 1080p Display plays the 4k videos, being nearly 4x sharper. With a higher res display, 1440p or 4k, you (should) have less screendoor effect, meaning it is harder to make out the physical pixels. Hope this was understandable ;-)

GPU Hardware acceleration is borked with everything that uses lavfilters, k-lite, etc ever since windows 10 and direct mode only.
It used to work before windows 10 with extended mode, sort of... but not any more.
You might try to use quicksync if you have a skylake or broadwell cpu, but that's about it.
Other then that you can try this old free version on virtual desktop, it uses media foundation, the built in video decoder in windows.

I think there is something in the Oculus runtime in direct mode that prevents GPU video decoding to work properly, I don't even think this is particularly related to windows 10 or what developers of the video players are doing.
The whirlgig developer addresses this issue somewhat, but how it seems he also doesn't know what's exactly is going on.
If you are having trouble I definitely recommend you try the free version of virtual desktop I posted. It has very few options but you can play a majority of the videos posted here.

Going from 1080p to 1440p is huge. But going from OLED to LCD is also huge because they have to arrange the subpixels a certain way in OLED so it doesn't get image burn as fast. Colors will also be more saturated with more color fringe.
So for the best experience avoid OLED and go for a IPS LCD 1440p screen.

Yes. They will also use a standard RGB subpixel matrix so should be as good as a 1080p LCD screen but with better latency.
It's not a fix for phones though because they don't have to worry about screen burn-in as much because the pixels aren't as static in games and video as they are on a phone.

My image is just a higher magnification. I don't know what point you're trying to make but your image perfectly shows why 1440p diamond matrix is no better than 1080p RGB matrix.

Actually having compared both an LG G2 and an S6 using a cardboard I would say that in some respects a 1080p LCD is even better than a 1440p samsung display (texture detail in "certain" parts of scenes, but not always) but that Samsung's display seemed to "diffuse" the screen door effect so I actually preferred it, and in no small way.
Of course it might be a different story with a 1440p LCD. I don't know.
Would love to see a 1440p RGB samsung display.

Ok, I thought the day would never come, but finally my Rift will be here on Monday. :)
I've been around for a lot of incarnations of this thread and I don't recall any consensus ever being reached about what the best VR Player is. So I'd like some advice from Oculus/Vive owners so I don't waste my time trying to figure out the best one.
The main things I'm interested in are:
1. That it play all the videos here (leaving HG out of it if necessary, I pretty much assume that will be a problem, lol).
2. The ability to browse and play videos from within the headset with the xbox controller. I'd rather not have to use the mouse & keyboard, and I definitely don't want to take off the HMD to start every video on my monitor.
3. The ability to just select a file and have it play correctly without having to adjust settings every time, unless it's a smooth thing with the controller like re-orienting with a bluetooth controller on GearVR, that's a nice feature. But inputting numbers or something sounds annoying.
I know there are scaling issues with a lot of videos but they've never bothered me as much as some people. Being able to change scale sounds nice but not if it means setting tilt, degrees, angle, whatever before starting every video (again, just pushing the analog stick or pressing some buttons on the controller for predetermined zoom levels would be fine). I tend to switch through a bunch of videos and like how they just start playing correctly displayed on the GearVR because of the naming scheme. I know there aren't any players that use file names for settings, but I wouldn't mind going though all the videos and adding .json files or whatever it is now for 180, dome, etc. so they play correctly instead of having to do that when I start each video.

Whirligig has more options and you can even change the distance between the two images and improve the scale. I play with it the HG videos with no problem at all, no need to use handbrake. I also use it with te NA videos selecting the fisheye proyection. The bad part is browsing videos, I hope they change that in the future. You can use the xbox controller and even it supports the oculus remote.
In the other hand virtual desktop has less options to configure but i feel the scale is better with the vrp videos.

1. You can configure it. I put it on the two triggers. When i play a video and feel the escale is wrong, i use this options and in a few seconds i can get a better scale. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done quite well.

3. You can browse every video you want from within the rift with no problem, but i think the virtual desktop has a better browser system (actually is the windows browser).
In whirligig you have to move your head to select a file/folder and then press the A button, that isn't very comfortable, especially if you are gonna watch several videos.

Guys, I need some advice please. I have a GearVR and have tried so many different videos from different studios thanks to our kind uploaders. Nowadays, though, I only ever download WankzVR and CVR because they're the only ones that are in proper real-life scale imo. The models in the vast majority of the other ones (apart from a few that are too small) are really oversized - like giants.
Yet it seems that everyone else is okay with them and able to enjoy them. Is everyone else just less finicky than me or are WVR and CVR really the only ones in scale? I feel like the odd one out lol

For my eyes (with GearVR), I agree with you. The only studios that have close to real-world scale are Wankz and CVR. All the others are varying degrees of much too large. HoloGirls has some videos that seem proper scale, but then others that aren't. They seem all over the map to me. I don't even bother watching anything but CVR and Wankz anymore, because I'm really sensitive to the giant scale and it totally breaks immersion. I think many people just aren't bothered by it.
Also, understand that your personal perception of scale largely depends on if the distance between your pupils (IPD) matches the distance between the cameras that recorded the video. If your IPD is larger that the camera distance the scale will look too large. If your IPD is smaller than the camera distance the scale will look too small.
Wankz has said that they are using a camera distance that matches the average male IPD (65mm), so their scale should be close to correct for the average guy.

VR_P2 dont waste your time with Virtual Desktop, it has good playback (fps) but you cant modify anything (angel, ipd, zoom etc) which is just a massive fail, over time it may get better.
whirligig has issues with fps, the developer has acknowledged this and is working on it,in the future whirligig will probably become the go to player.
for now though, the CLEAR winner is the VRP application, its a pain in the ass to add videos to it, but its playback and xbox remote controls are by far the best

That said the setup is a pain in the ass but really its only 10mins effort to setup 30-40 videos

In both players you can use keyboard/mause, xbox controller and use oculus remote combined with head tracking (best for Whirligig). Virtual Destop can play, pause, >>,<<, ... with oculus remote.
I also have a GTX 970, so I have to convert HG Videos but the best player here and for all other 360 Videos is GoPro VR Player (Free).
Go to preferences set VLC & Hardware decoding and the video quality will blow your mind :))

I'm using codecs from shark007.net which is very easy to configure. Other packs did'nt work for me.
On H.264/5 tab just select "Use LAV H265" and on the config page of that select DXAV2 (copy-back) for Hardware acceleration and select 4k resolution
I think other setting are default (without that and with other codes I had also problems with NA)
Framerates are always fine, the only problem are H.265 movs but that is because of GTX 970 I think

My Note 4 with Snapdragon 805 (some countries have Exynos so I cant vouch for it) runs samsungVR (formerly milkvr) virtualrealporn, wankzvr at oculus quality. Badoink is 4k/60 which the phone cannot do. 3200x1600 is about the resolution it can handle at 60fps.

You could always try reorienting the screen if you haven't already. In Samsung VR, if you tap the touch button - which will brings up media controls during a video - you'll see a giant dot. Move your head (or tilt if you want to change tilt direction, which I usually avoid) until the dot is facing the direction you want. Then stay still and tap and hold the touch button until the screen reorients.

Other people can do it too, and it doesn't have to be all one person. We have NA Gear Guy for the GearVR versions of NA videos. Someone else could take over RTVR Gear vids. Hell, you could do it, it's only 8 videos atm.

Neither the Doc nor I have premium Mega accounts. We just have many 50GB free ones (which each require a different email address). I got the Samsung VR iv downloaded a few videos, they just appear "side by side" when i play them on the default Moon Player software.
I have downloaded Samsung Milk via a apk and installed but it doesnt appear in my Libary when i put on my VR gear headset.

If you can see milkvr in your library before putting the headset in the gearvr you can update it (which you should do) and also run it from there and it will prompt you to put on the headset. If you can't find it at all I just suggest you find a free VPN service (a trial or something) and connect to a US vpn and properly download samsungvr (its not milkvr anymore) from the oculus store. After that you never need the vpn anymore to update or run it. The moon theatre is from a different gearvr app so your running the wrong app.

What are you even saying? The videos are meant to be watched as 180x180 3d. If you have a gear vr and lets say for example one of the wankzvr videos. You want it named WVR_35_somevideo_180x180_3dh.mp4 that will produce exactly the settings you want to be watching those videos on when using SamsungVR (formerly milkvr) if you are using the wrong app then it may be skewing it some weird way like making a 180x180 video 360 degrees which would make the women look huge and fucked up.

I tried the PSVR at Best Buy a couple weeks ago. The rep said that he couldn't wipe the lenses, only the area around them, so I can't really say for sure if it's better or worse than my VR experience with Cardboard on a Nexus 5X. It was such a short demo (Eve Valkyrie), and I was the second-to-last person in line. But I'm excited to buy it; there are a bunch of games already confirmed either VR-exclusive or VR-compatible, and I think they've confirmed a video player as well--so porn isn't out of the question despite being on console. Guys I have a GearVR but have been having some problems with it (I wont get into it unless anyone is interested)
Are there any other headsets that would work well with an S7? Google cardboard feels far away and kills immersion, and the cloth padding on the gear VR helps a lot for long sessions, as well as the over-head strap and built in volume/menu controls.

I was surprised to find out that this is not true. When I got my CV1 & tried the regular Oculus HG 3840x3840 videos with Whirligig they worked right away with my 970. This is despite the fact they only ever played on MPC-HC & never worked on VLC or any other player. It must be a codec thing. The Whirligig FAQ has instructions to install k-lite codec pack + Codec twek tool to set LAV as default, but I had already done that awhile ago trying to just get them to work in VLC so I didn't bother doing it again. That's probably all most of you have to do.

HG uses H 265, which uses hardware decoding not supported by older GPUs. It has the best image quality to file size ratio, so it's not going away any time soon. The files wont play in VLC or MPC-HC, but work fine in Windows Media Player (Windows 10), Virtual Desktop, and Whirligig (assuming you have the proper codecs configured).

It's only these videos that don't want to work right, either the video lags behind the audio, doesn't play at all, or is choppy. MPC-HC will SOMETIMES play smoothly but only in desktop mode. I've played other stereoscopic 1080p videos just fine with both kolor eyes and whirligig. vorpX works with mpc but it's stuck on theater mode which is useless for these videos. I have downloaded and installed k-lite mega three times and triple checked that LAV is the only decoder that is used.

My Problem with the Gear was the massive color banding when not looking straight ahead. Thats why it's so much better for me on the Bobo VR.
As my phone is only a S4, Quality will always be an issue (only plays 1080p Vids max, nearly constant drift issues, it's just underpowered).
The immersion on the other hand is really great compared to simple Cardboard or "Movie Viewers", they did almost everything right on the Bobo. Couldn't really test porn on the S6 as it isn't mine, but comparing the real time Demos that naturally run with less stuttering than on the S4, my advice would be saving half on the price of GearVR and going the Bobo way ;-)

I have a question.
I use an iPhone + headset + Mobile VR Station with standard config. I usually play vrdesktophd videos, downsized to 2560width.
I've noticed that in many videos, if I watch in the center (the focal point) everything looks great but, as soon as I watch up or down, the image is completely distorted. For example, during a cowgirl closeup, it is as if the pornstar is being sucked out of a blackhole on the top of her head.
I thought this is because I often use it to play OculusVR videos (vrdesktophd), so I downloaded the same video in GearVR format.
At first I thought the 2 videos format were the same (just in different resolutions) but I noticed the oculus and gear version have different distorsions.
So, I tried the GearVR version and there is no distortion if I watch up or down.
This means that downloading vrdesktopHD videos and downsizing them is insufficient. We need the actual GearVR, unless there is a way to play oculus file correctly. Am I right?
Can anyone please comment on this?

Yes, you are correct. It applies only to NA videos (also RTVR as they are owned by NA). They can be viewed correctly on Oculus/Vive or GearVR. Possibly other mobile players as well, I don't know either way. That is why NA Gear Guy maintains the only complete GearVR archive of any site here, NA. Download his versions and you'll be fine. Or maybe someone else with an iPhone can tell you a way to correct for the fisheye distortion, I've never used any mobile players so I can't tell you if it's possible or not.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out the h.265 HG videos do indeed work in Whirligig. I ended up using that instead of VirtualRealPlayer because I just couldn't stand having to lift the headset & look at the monitor every time I wanted to play a different video. Not to mention all the setup that would have been required to play non-VRP videos.
Some things I still think GearVR does better like seeing thumbnails of all your videos, and being able to re-center the video in a smooth motion instead of moving my head & guessing at the right spot, but the extra control over all the little settings is very nice to have.
A lot of things I still don't know what they even do though, like wtf is the Radius number in Whirligig? No matter what I set it to it doesn't seem to change anything.

Setting the Radius to 1.0 makes the women seem less gigantic, but you've got to mess with the zoom to get the distance right, and it limits total screen size. Also, you have to increase the radius again to about 5 or so to see the video browser.

Yes this is literally what everyone who's tried both will say. Other (underdeveloped/expensive) VR content and convenience: GearVR. Image quality/porn: BoboVR Z4.
And the difference is even bigger when you factor in Samsung's diamond matrix vs a 1440p LCD RGB matrix because the latter has no screen door effect and you really have to consciously focus on the pixels to spot them. The Rift and Vive has a higher fill factor so will fix s-o-m-e of that, but will still struggle to match the density of a LCD RGB screen. And now when there's even 2160p LCD screens on the market and Daydream around the corner...... now is not a good time to invest in the established players because in terms of image quality they're already dated and it will only get worse if porn is your main reason for using VR.

anyone having fogging issues, use a blow dryer on the inside lenses for 5 seconds per lens or so and it will no longer fog up at all. Its the heat of your face being warmer than the lenses that causes them to fog up. This prevents it from happening.

That's a common argument from Samsung fanboys who are forced to use their crappy screen and need something to latch onto, but tracking and low persistence is as we all know almost a non-issue in passive experiences (that will be remedied by Daydream) and in any case not even closely as big of an issue as the screen door effect in the diamond matrix. You can try to change the FOV settings in Mobile VR Station to make the models seem more realistic sized - but it tends make the room look weird as well as add distortion. It must just be the filming setup NA uses - because the same oversize model thing occurs with the Rift. A lot of the studios have got better at getting scale right over the last few months - except NA. Which is a shame as the RealteensVR would be excellent if it was scaled right

I do lower the Badoink videos. My opinion is if a video is already 50fps then leave it at 50fps but if a video is 60fps, maintain that 60fps always. Do you have the same spec note 4 (snapdragon rather than exynos)? I do not use handbrake because I use a more powerful combination of MeGUI and Avisynth but I don't see how handbrake will have any issues. What resolution are you using for an output? I usually use 2880x1440 (Like I said though, oculus quality VRP and Wankz work fine so a higher resolution would work). Also I do not use a 2-pass average bitrate but rather Constant Quality with a setting of 18. Lower is better quality and 21ish is considered a human imperceptible drop in quality so 18 is a large "buffer" beyond that setting. If you want a smaller output file while maintaining the quality you need to change the Optimise Video preset. They go from "Ultrafast" to "Placebo". I use the "Slower" setting.

Usually I follow the guide exactly, as in 2880x1440 constant 50fps 2-pass avg bitrate (if bitrate <15k keep the same, if >15 set to 20k). Tbh, I dont see much of a difference in file size when using the "slower" optimise video setting. (In some cases it even increases the file size...)
Right now I'm more concerned about finding a setting for handbrake that works all across the board, rather than the file size. The guide only seems to work for some videos, maybe I'll start trying constant quality instead of avg bitrate...do you use constant or variable/peak FPS?

To add, the only variable I can think of is I run my videos from an external SD card that is a Samsung Electronics 64GB EVO Micro SDXC class 10 card. Not that i would think that is the issue but honestly dunno what else could be if you can't run the same videos on the same phone without issues. What hardware and software setup are you using?
I ask this, because whatever software settings you're using, is the WRONG method for videos that are in a fish-eye format(two circles when viewed in 2D).
I had the same issue a few months back. I'm on an iPhone 6S Plus, and I now use the 'Mobile VR Station' app's '3D Front Full Dome Left/Right' setting, which corrects Fish-eye distortion perfectly.
If not on iOS, I'm sure whatever software must have an option for fish-eye distortion.

Actually I think it's the BOBOVR Z4 that's overrated. It gets hyped up so much around here that I decided to order one even though I already have 3 other cardboard devices and two Gear VRs. It's certainly the best cardboard device I have, but I haven't found it to be superior to my Gear VRs in terms of comfort or optics. Having said that though if your IPD isn't a good match for the Gear VR there's really nothing you can do about it, whereas with the BOBOVR Z4 there is. So I can understand why it's better for _some_ people.
I think the BOBOVR Z4 makes sense for anyone who wants the best porn-only option, especially if you're going to pair it with a phone with a 1440p IPS LCD screen because that will give you the sort of subpixel resolution that you can't get with a Gear VR compatible phone. But if you already have a Gear VR compatible phone and you're interested in VR for more than just porn, like I am, then you're really going to want a Gear VR to get the most out of the platform.
My BOBOVR Z4 is going to spend most of it's time on the shelf I think, unless I ever decide to pick up a true-QHD phone made by some other manufacturer. And hopefully there will soon be some Daydream options with 1440p RGB OLED displays for the best of both worlds.

Yeah I agree with everything you said. If you already have a GearVR compatible phone then convenience > incremental improvement in optics.
But if you don't then the better buy is a higher res 1440p or 2160p IPS LCD. It's better (for porn) and depending on the phone can also be much cheaper. Win win.
Did you try configuring it btw? The generic code it comes with doesn't get the most out of your particular eyes and phone. Individual settings is a must with every headset imo (better 3D effect, sharper, correct scale, etc).

^There's a QR code you scan to open the configurator in the phone. Screen to lens distance should be 28-42 (smaller the number, smaller the scale. I use 29) and FOV angles at 60. The rest you do by eye. It makes a massive difference.

The censorship definitely sucks, but everything I've seen from western VR seems to be the exact scene every time. The JAV stuff has some great variety. I never knew I needed a 180 head tracked VR view from the floor while a bunch of school girls skipping class ran around the hallway until Afesta.

Is BOBOVR Z4 actually 120 degree FOV? I saw a review on a forum that suggested it was nowhere near 120 and that thw company were just adding 60 degrees per eye together to get the 120 figure

It's not even close to 120°. But forget about the numbers. The fact is that it offers a better/wider FOV than the vast majority of cardboard headsets on the market, which makes it a great option.

It definitely doesn't help if your IPD is off but the GearVR in general also has a lot of color fringing. The lenses are surprisingly cheap for the cost of headset.
