Is RB the most inconsistent position?

You have guys like Peyton Hillis and Chris Johnson who look great and all of a sudden disappear. Seems like the only consistent RBs are the ones who are elite like Peterson and Lynch. For most other positions if you are a good player it usually stays that way.

I'd have taken a flier on whatever young player you think could be surprisingly good. At that point, what's the risk? It's a bench spot you can drop when someone hot opens up on waivers.
>ASJ
I used to believe. You'd have been better off with a kicker in that round.

Nice catch on Rodgers in the 4th. Keep an eye on your WRs though.
>>
>>69577963
Maybe stop playing with autistic homers?
>>
>>69578032
I always like having a solid back up defense. I'd rather have a good defense against a terrible offense than a great defense vs a great offense. Kickers are a dime a dozen, Unless you get one of the top 3 they are all the same. ASJ is probably still gonna be trash but whatever at that point.

Their owner is arguably the worst in the NFL, the only reason the team even wound up with Rivers is because they had to pick between two elite QBs: Brees or Philip. Chargers are like the Nanners, they aren't winning shit when they don't even have owners who care about winning.
>>
>>69580587

I'd argue that the lelphins/$(ers have worse ownership.

At least if people don't vote for the Chargers stadium it's not going to be Spanos' fault if the team moves.

Don't forget the clots.

A big reason they haven't been consistently at the bottom of the division is because of the perfect storm of Peyton's neck injury leading to the Colts having the #1 draft pick the year Andrew Luck went for the draft.

Now I don't know if Luck will ever be as good as or surpass Peyton (in terms of his overall career), but he certainly keeps the Colts afloat when he's healthy and playing well (unlike last season, obviously).

It makes me wonder what would have happened if the Colts (by some weird cosmic event) didn't pick Luck that year, or if Luck stayed for his senior season (for whatever reason).

Would Peyton have come back and won another Super Bowl like he eventually did with Denver last year?

As I recall, the Texans were beginning to get the drop on Manning somewhat before his neck injury (at least at then Reliant Stadium).

Cardinals bro reporting in.

Here's how i see this team: their offense is fantastic and Palmer just had a horrific game against he Panthers. I do wonder if his thumb was injured, given 3 games he played with the injury were his worst of the season. This is an offense that, in the regular season, wasn't stopped by anybody (until the final Seahawks game).

The downside is their defense. It was ranked in the top 5 last year, but statistics don't tell the whole story. The Cardinals did not shut down any powerful offense, and sort of "stat-padded" themselves against the many teams they played with sub-par defenses. Their stats and highlights also looked good because their aggressive blitzing style lead to a lot of turnovers against bad or one dimensional offenses (49ers, Lions).

This was a team who were among the top in the NFL for pressuring the QB, but among the lowest in sacks. they blitz a lot and give up a big play or two every game. Their front 7 on defense were bad, but they seemed to do a lot in the offseason to get help. I think their front 7 will improve, but if they don't win the SB I almost guarantee it will be because of them. Or Palmer will break his bones again.

Decided to do a quick mock myself

12 team standard league picking at 9th

Can't remember the order of the whole draft but the first 4 were definitely Charles, Ingram, Brees, Hilton. Would be fucking happy going into the season with this team tbqh
>>
>>69581984
New Orleans homer?

Brees is gonna falter this year, his arm is shot. There isn't enough balls to go around for Hilton and Moncrief sadly. I feel like Bernard has to compete far too much with Hill for carries. I'm not a fan of the team to be honest.
>>
>>69582001
Yea Saints are probably my 2nd favorite team but Brees has led the league in passing yards 4 years in a row iirc. He would have had another 5k season if he didn't miss one game last year too

As for having Hilton and Moncrief I think Luck is gonna have a huge comeback year and with no Bradshaw and Fleener there should be a ton of work for both of them. If not I got Steve Smith Sr way late in the draft which is a big steal

>implying you were in or did well in any /sp/ fantasy league last year

The team I drafted is solid as fuck and has far better depth than any 12 team mock should. Still don't know why Jamal Charles is 24th in ESPN rankings. I took him at 9th and was happy as fuck
>>
>>69582034
Charles was shown as replaceable last year, he is 29 going on 30, and has a TO of mileage on him. Expect his usage to plummet and his numbers to go down accordingly.
>>
>>69582046
I'd hardly say he as shown as replaceable. Chiefs had a piss easy schedule in the 2nd half of they year and their defence carried them to most of those wins not the run game. Charles when healthy is still arguably the best RB in the NFL
>>
>>69582073
"When he is healthy" is a pretty big issue when he is 29 going on 30, has his mileage, and his injury history. Peyton Manning is arguably the best QB in the NFL when he isn't 40+ and has a fucked up neck and legs

>>
>>69580952
No it isn't. When teams win, they sell. The Seahawks are the best example I can think of, they were pretty irrelevant but then they got good and got new flashy uniforms and everyone suddenly started forcing the le 12s meme. Same thing with the Pats, no one cared about them until Tom Brady came to be. Now both those franchises are among the top 10 most profitable. The Cowboys I believe are still #1 but that is just because they had one of the all time greatest dynasties in NFL history, same thing with the Niners.

The Chargers have really never been great. Even when they made the owl they got BTFO. Spanos is pretty much entirely to blame for them being flat out bad since he took over. He passed on an elite coach, got rid of Marty, and the only reason the team has had streaks of being ok is because of Rivers, who the team got by complete blind luck. They HAD to pick between two elite quarterbacks, had the choice been between picking say Ryan Leaf and Philip Rivers you can bet your ass Spanos would have gone with Leaf.

Selling out games doesn't mean shit, the Browns have sold out every game too since X year (I don't remember when).

There is more that goes into a team's money flow than tickets. Merchandise is a major part too, especially seeing as how jerseys alone are $100 a piece.

The Chargers I don't even think sold out many games this season, or at least looking at their crowds in the games they didn't. I also see roughly 75-90% of their stadium is typically filled with away team fans. I know San Diego is a military city since they have major ports there so they likely have people from all over, but still holy shit.

I like Sterling Shepard and Antonio Gates late but why the fuck would you draft Eddie Lacy in the 3rd? I get if he falls to the 5th round or something but you could get a Matt Forte or a high end WR instead

If you got say Keenan Allen or a Brandin Cooks in the 3rd instead of Lacy that draft would be a solid 9 but that WR corps will have you finishing 7-7 in a real league
>>
>>69589304
Allen was grabbed early by someone reaching if I recall correctly, not sure about Cooks. I have the back up to both Bell and Starks so I'm set if their is injury issues. Lacy had a down year last season for sure but he is looking to enter camp at a decent weight and if he is anything like he once was that pick will be the steal of the draft. I have my Flex spot set for the season and don't have to worry about RBs at all. If I manage to keep an eye on FA I could grab some nobody who comes from nowhere to be a good WR2 and I'll be fine.

OFFICIAL TOP 10 RUSHERS OF THE 2000'S, REVISED ED.
1. Ladanian Tomlinson
2. Jamal Lewis
3. Adrian Peterson
4. Clinton Portis
5. Chris Johnson
6. Shaun Alexander
7. Edgerrin James
8. Curtis Martin
9. Tiki Barber
10. Priest Holmes

Honorable Mentions: Ricky Williams, Ahman Green, Corey Dillon, Larry Johnson, Thomas Jones, Stephen Jackson

criteria: 1 pt given to each of; top 5 rusher, leading rusher, 2000 yard season

revisions: realized I culled data from 11 seasons, removing 2010 dropped CJ2K to 3 points, removed 2 honorable mentions
>>
>>69591263
I stand by Jamal Lewis, a 2000 yard rusher who also was a top 5 rusher for the Browns.

CJ2K above AP has been revised due to a mistake in data collection.

faulk has 3 OPOTY awards, and an MVP award too

Okay I was going off of memory on that one, I misremembered. So instead of beating TT on times ran for 1100 yards, it was a tie. But he still ran for 2000, won owls, won SB MVP's, AP MVP's, AP OPOTY, etc...
>>
>>69592378
Did Faulk ever run for 2000? Did he ever lead the league in rushing?

dude you're really deluded
TD had 4 great years, 4 transcendental years if you wanna be effusive, and it was maybe the greatest 4 year stretch for any running back of all time
but i can't rank a guy who had 4 good years in a decade over players who consistently produced year after year in that decade
>>
>>69592468
You know ive been visiting this board for 2 whole days this offseason and this trip has yet to be wrong about anything
>>
>>69592468
TD led the league in rushing, and was top 5 3 times.

Thurman was top 5 4 times in the 90's.

I can't give Thurman the nod, when he never lead the league in rushing or had 2000 yards in a season. Especially when considering this was a list of top RB's of the 90's.

>>69592457
I wouldn't call Thurman's numbers "good" when some of those years he barely scraped to 1000 yards.

What makes you think I care about your opinion? My list is objective fact. IDK if you disagree with it or not because it's objective and the criteria are better than anything you could come up with. Idk about 1000 yard seasons, if we're talking about the best I only care about excellence. Rushing for 2000 yards. Leading the league in rushing. Being a top 5 rusher. Anything besides that is completely irrelevant.

LMAO, also cruz has done nothing for 2 seasons. Jennings was injured all year and didn't breakoff 100 yards until the gnats were out of contention.
>>
>>69593085
8th isn't elite you fucking moron.

Your efficiency was in the bottom half of the league with a shitty defense that gave you extra time to recuperate. The only elite player is OBJ. The giants are a poorer version of the steelers offense without depth.
>>
>>69593139
I assume that you are using PFF for that claim

>Weston Richburg, C, New York Giants (91.2)
>This is one of the better put-together Pro Bowl rosters in recent seasons, but a couple of spots still reek of the name pushing certain players over the line; at center, that is certainly the case with Alex Mack (75.6) and Mike Pouncey (78.2) getting the nod after solid seasons when others have excelled. Weston Richburg is our highest-graded center this season, equally adept as a run blocker, pass protector and even working in front of screens. Richburg has proven, with his elite play this season, that he probably should have been at center for the Giants from day one of his rookie season, and if he keeps up this level of play, the accolades will soon follow

Also, I didn't include Cruz retard, I know he's worthless. Harris has a been reliable WR and Sterling Shapard were graded as the best route runners in the draft.

Also, Jennings didn't break 100 yards because Coughlin wanted to use a 4 RB rotation. Surprise, when they stopped doing that, Jennings averaged, Jennings averaged 107 yards rushing with and averaged 5.5 per rush.
>>
>>69593206

>>
>>69593133
you realize that there are 32 teams, and the average team is thus 16th right? 8th isn't that much better than 16th, which isn't that much better than 24th.

elite is like the top 2-3 teams, great is the top 5-6, above average is like 7-12. your offense was above average.

it's like you think there are 100 teams in the league or something. 8th isn't good.

i think on a pure receiving standpoint he's as talented as anyone because of his physical gifts, especially at getting yards after the catch
i don't think there's anyone better in the league at making people in the secondary miss, and he's got freakishly long limbs so his catch radius is huge, although he does drop catchable balls sometimes
i wouldn't put him on the same level as the other 3 because his production hasn't been as good and i'm not sure he's as good of a route runner, but he could have a fantastic year next year and show me up if he has this year's dalton the whole year

that's why i said it varies on the talent available, the current class of running backs is so weak that i'd argue there are only two backs you can reliably expect to be elite next year, gurley and peterson

I don't know about the rest of it, but I like your AFC South prediction (especially as a Toxins fan).

10-6 is where I expect the Texans to end up; however, I think they need to win most, if not all, their division games to get that record.

Not that I can't see them losing a few since both Jax and Ten are improved (on paper, at least).

Texans might get lucky and win one or two games as underdogs. They certainly did that last year against the Bungles (although they seemingly do that a lot to the Bengals).

Packers. With Jordy back and a weak ass schedule there will be nothing really stopping the Rodgers train. Cardinals come close but I think the Packers just BARELY nudge them out.

>Team to surprise in each conference
NFC: Bears. With great improvements to their defense and with White actually playing and a healthy Jeffery, all combined with a light schedule I think the Bears have a good chance in getting a 6th seed and going one and done.
AFC: Jets. The Jets' only thing stopping them from being a legitimate contender is a QB, but with Marshall, Decker, and now Forte, I don't think it matters who's throwing the ball, this offense made fucking Fitzpatrick look elite last year. Combine with a great D and an easy division (besides the Pats) and we got a sleeper team

>>
>>69594318

*sigh*
Part of why Brady does so well, DESPITE a beaten up and cruddy O-line, is the way the Pats offense works, which is up tempo and quick passing.

Brady makes his reads quick and gets the ball out fast so pass rushers don't have as much time to get to him.

Brady is also good at reading defenses, so he can call audibles in order to switch his O-linemen to the right protection schemes, etc.

>>69594395
Again. Oline wasn't great. Brady got the ball out quick. It's what he's known for doing.

Gronk, Amendola, Chandler, and Edelman definitely help him get the ball out quick. Especially Gronk.

5/10, made me reply with some angst.

Not even a Pats fan. This is coming from a Toxins fan. Fuck off and goodnight.

I just think they'll win the game that Brady is suspended (before I had that as a loss) and now because of tie breakers they'll go 10-6 and win the division whereas before they are 9-7 and missing the playoffs
they have a decent coach, a good QB, good offensive talent, and a good defense that cut out cancer

rawls is really risky, ankle injuries are a bitch and the seahawks drafted 3 running backs, they also looked like a passing team in the second half and with their success idk if they'll go back to the ground and pound they used to do.

olsen is a reach, aging tight end and cam should use his other weapons more this year.

really like gurley, tyrod, and ebron. rodgers is fine but i would have taken a reciever instead, none of the ones you picked are that consistent aside from watkins and idk if he'll be fully healthy at the start of the season.

solid overall though, 8/10

So what re the reasons that the Giants actually have a team that will win the Division over the Cowboys?

They couldn't even get a winning record last year. Who did they add? A DE that had less sacks in 2015 than Demarcus Lawrence for 85mil? A Low end to Average CB?

Giants will be lucky to get 9 wins this season

there's a difference between trying to win this year and trying to win in a few years

the giants spent 200 million because they are trying to win while eli is still their qb.

you don't rebuild through free agency, you use it to plug the wholes on a contending roster.
>>
>>69595850
That's actually a good question. Players only last 3-4 years right? In madden 12 I trade away 1/4 to 1/3 of my team before the draft and move up all my picks. If all you take is studs you never have to rebuild. Not really that hard

The problem is the Giants were nowhere near competing. The best the Giants ca hope for this year is a 9-7 WC spot. There's no shame in being a crappy team for 3-4 years while you stock up on talent and rebuild the core of your team. Eli has forever been a 8-12 area QB. It's not like they would be wasting Peyton's/Tom's dying years.
