>Shane Watson: Ashes Tests do not need pink balls
>>
Good afternoon. About to go for a run.

>>69110495
No shit sherlock. Why play D/N Tests if normal Ashes Tests already have massive crowds and TV audience numbers?
>>
>>69110656
to get even more massive crowds and tv audiences
>>
>>69110732
how do you get a bigger crowd when the venue is sold out? :\

TV audience I guess but it might spoil the competition a bit. Next Ashes is 2017/18 and Australia will have played atleast 3 D/N Tests just at home by then (possibly more away) so England will be at a massive disadvantage because they might not have played with the pink ball at all.

That said, the night session helps the bowlers a shitload with swing and seam so James "homebabby" Anderson might not be completely fucking useless in Australia for once
>>
>>69110772
>how do you get a bigger crowd when the venue is sold out?
expand the existing venues, build new bigger venues or move matches to bigger venues, e.g. have a test at wembley instead of lord's
>>
>>69110811
Fucking foolproof idea

Why don't we just get germans to run the ICC?

>But even before Gove (and his two aides) arrived at Johnson’s house, he was beginning to worry about whether the former London mayor was putting enough effort into the mammoth challenge they faced.
>There was barely concealed irritation that instead of getting stuck into the detail of planning a strategy, Johnson had spent time on Saturday playing in a cricket match between a team made up of his family and an Earl Spencer’s XI at Althorp House

>Just a day after sterling had crashed and shares tumbled, a chillaxing Johnson was posturing in his cricket whites.

Cricket confirmed more important than being Prime Minister
>>
>>69111024
they literally. LITERALLY. do it >for free
>>
>>69111039
but how much bribes do they get from the bcci, ecb and ca?
>>
>>69111179
none i suspect since those three boards you mentioned just pick the ICC Pres. The current president was literally the BCCI president until a few months ago

ICC is not like FIFA, it is not a meaningful independent entity. it is a members club, though that may be about to change drastically if reports of the reforms they are drawing up are true.
>>
>Gar nicht so lange her, da hat so mancher in dieser Stadt die Augen verdreht, als Hertha BSC mit dem Werbeslogan "Play Berlin" um die Ecke kam. Die Botschaft von 2003 ist Geschichte, nun probiert's der Klub mit einer neuen: „We try. We fail. We win.“
>>
cricket reminds me of football in the 1950s. poorly organised and alot of glorified friendlies
>>
>>69111584
It's only really been professionalised in the same way as any other major sport in the past 8 years so you're not that far off actually.
>>
>>69111692
>It's only really been professionalised in the same way as any other major sport
wat

it's been fully professional since World Series Cricket

Rugby is the worst and only became pro in '95

>>69111584
you're correct about the shitty organisation. In the early days administrators literally tried to stop other people from playing the game. It's honestly surprising the game is played outside of the settled Anglo colonies (aus/nz/sa) at all given that legacy.

Cricket administrators have always been self-serving and reactionary. The single reason cricket isnt in the Olympics this year is because the ECB didn't want it to clash with their domestic season for two weeks lel.

As for the glorified friendlies thing. I agree when it comes to bi-lateral LOI matches, but I think three+ match tours are the optimal way to play Test cricket. Any other way of organising Tests would just be disjointed and become a logistical nightmare.
>>
>>69111584
It does seem they're becoming aware of this. The idea of a 3-year long league sounds pretty cool IMO, because you can't fluke a win at all. But one has reasons to be incredibly skeptical of the ICC's ability to actually make a difference.
>>
>>69111868
>because you can't fluke a win at all
I can't remember an ODi World Cup ever being 'fluked'. Infact certainly since '99 the best team at the tournament has won everytime. I don't know much about before then but those Windies and that Paki team were great. Only anomalies might be Sri Lanka '96 and Australia '87?

But I agree I like the 3 year league thing. If not for the context, just because it will force a better playing schedule rather than AUS/IND/ENG all playing eachother a gorillion times for shekels. I don't think Australia has played Bangladesh once in the past 5 years in ODI cricket. Cant even remember the last Test series.
>>
>>69111941
>Cant even remember the last Test series.
bro relly
>>
>>69111976
oh i definitely remember THAT. The funniest part was Ponting was the one who sent him in, and he returned the favour by running Pointing out

just wasnt sure if there had been some meme series played in the winter in Cairns/Darwin since id forgotten about
>>
>>69112002
Idk maybe there was I just know that was the last series in bangladesh. Zimbabwe aside I think it's the longest gap between two series currently standing, and they cancelled it lmeo.
>>
wew lads it's actually happening

>Cricket will be included in the 2024 Olympics if Rome wins their bid to host the games
>France Cricket is attempting to win a similar commitment with the Paris organising committee.

Now just sit back and watch as this is a miserable failure. I like the idea of it since it means more funding but fuck me in the bum it'll be a mess. Even a moderate number of teams would mean a fucking ridiculous length comp

So, if only 12 teams were included, three might come from Europe, three from Asia, two from Africa, two or three from America and the Caribbean and two or three from the South Pacific area. It could well be that some well-known cricket nations - notably England, who are part of the UK in Olympic terms - miss out.

Wew so on that basis

>3 from Europe (not UK)
Netherlands
?????????????
????????????????????????????????????

>3 from Asia
India
Pakistan
Sri Lanka

>2 from Africa

>2 from Americas/Carribbean

>2 or 3 from South Pacific

>>
>>69112818
KEK I just looked at the rankings and the #2 and #3 Euro team outside of UK (unless you count Ireland) are fucking Jersey and Denmark

>Jersey will qualify and England won't

KEK
>>
>>69112857
Yeah I mean logically a 16 team cup would be

Australia
India
Great Britain
Pakistan
New Zealand
Sri Lanka
Bangladesh
South Africa
Zimbabwe
Afghanistan
Ireland
Trinidad & Tobago
Jamaica
Barbados
St Kitts & Nevis
Netherlands

But I'm sure they'll have some ultra-meme qualifier that would shove some meme teams in it. IMO that could make it better, otherwise it'd be just like another WT20, having Jersey compete would give ultra meme value
>>
Reminder that Germany is unironically below Gibraltar (a literal rock with like 20 people) and the Isle of Man in the rankings
>>
okay, just realised that northern ireland is part of the british olympic association and southern ireland part of the olympic council of ireland. but as long as the players from northern ireland are citizens of the republic of ireland there shouldn't be a problem
>>
>>69112818
why not UK?
>>
>>69113021
Idk that's just what was in the article m8 you look into it
>>
>>69112863
>unless you count Ireland

Republic of Ireland yes

>>Jersey will qualify
no it wont, Jersey isn't a sovereign state which I think is the criteria to quality for the Olympics

>>69113032
I did and I think you misinterpreted it

it says that " some well-known cricket nations - notably England " would not go.

That is correct. "England" would not go, but Team GB (ie England rebranded) would. It should be mostly the same

it's only Soccer and Rugby that team GB don't compete in because all the home nations have their own teams. That isn't an issue for cricket (implying Scotland even matters)
>>
>>69113060
>a sovereign state which I think is the criteria to quality for the Olympics
i think they just need a national olympic committee. for example the british virgin islands have their own even though they're not a sovereign state
>>
>>69113092
yes you're quite right: https://stillmed.olympic.org/media/Document%20Library/OlympicOrg/Documents/National-Olympic-Committees/List-of-National-Olympic-Committees-in-IOC-Protocol-Order.pdf#_ga=1.201572056.855940065.1467364861

still, Jersey doesn't have one so they wouldn't count. Based on that model I'd imagine it would be Team GB, RO Ireland and Netherlands from Europe.
>>
Allan Border faced club bowlers in his career, never played a T20 innings, what a LOOSER. Kohli would kill him.always plays great overseas under extreme pressure.
>>
>>69113141
Yeah likely

Still it would be a slightly different mix than the standard WT20, and teams would likely not send full strength teams so could be a meme. We'd likely see Bangladesh cucked out of it too.

I personally think it'll be a total fucking mess but it's good for growing the game.
>>
>>69113350
>and teams would likely not send full strength teams

why not? only team i could possibly think might do that is England

>Major William Booth was a cricketer who played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club between 1908 and 1914, a season in which he was named one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year.

>In the First World War Booth joined the British Army as an enlisted man and rose to the rank of sergeant before being commissioned as a second lieutenant on 16 July 1915. On 1 July 1916 he went "over the top" near La Cigny on the Somme while serving with the 15th Battalion, the West Yorkshire Regiment, also known as "The Leeds Pals". He was followed a short while later by another wave of soldiers among whom was Abe Waddington (later also played for Yorkshire and England). Waddington was hit and found himself in a shell hole with Booth, who was also injured, and held him until he died. Booth's body then remained there until the spring, when he was buried at Serre Road No 1 Cemetery.

get ready for more /based migration/, Germany
>>
>>69141759
Yeah, because no one ever toured Germany, France or India after terrorist attacks.

People only stopped touring Pakistan after a sports team was explicity attacked. There were literally bombs going off outside New Zealand's hotels in Pakistan and Sri Lanka 15 years ago and people still toured.

The UK should get hype for more Paki and Bangladeshi diaspora following Brexit.
>>
>>69141012
Nah not really. The biggest carrot for us was the dairy exports, but Japan, Canada and the USA are still far too protectionist when it comes to dairy. Although with the fall in dairy prices hopefully some of these retard farmers switch to livestock exporting instead.

We'd probably have gotten better deals if we negotiated with individual countries ourselves. Plus, the TPP is only going to grow our GDP by an additional 0.9%, and we now have a multitude of risks we've taken on in return (ISDs, IP laws, etc)
>>
>>69142178
>some of these retard farmers switch to livestock exporting instead.
Does New Zealand deal in live exports?

A significant component of our agricultural sector is live exports to places like Indonesia and Vietnam which naturally causes significant animal welfare issues and has caused a public backlash here. Do you guys have the same problem?
>>
>>69142118
False equivalency. None of those are are muslim-majority countries and none harbour the capacity to produce the kind of security threat that Bangladesh does.

Australia has already cancelled a tour to Bangladesh because intelligence indicated an attack was possible. Given that AUS/ENG/NZ all have access to the same intelligence sources, whether or not England tour Bangladesh in October will be the litmus test. I would suggest this attack (the target was Westerners) just reduced the likelihood of that tour occurring drastically.

>People only stopped touring Pakistan after a sports team was explicity attacked.

Right, I must be talking to Daniel because your knowledge of cricket clearly does not pre-date 2014. Australia and the others stopped touring Pakistan years before the attack on the Sri Lankan team bus. IIRC the very reason Sri Lanka was touring was because India had pulled out (though obviously that was because of Mumbai, but the point stands).
>>
Squash all AusWORMS.
>>
>>69110470
I just wanted to submit my respect for consistently posting the same pic to all editions of this bread.

Du bist ein echter Deutsch, OP.
>>
>>69142788
Yes, because if Australia cancels their tours the whole cricketing world does so too, because Australia is the only cricketing country in the world and nobody else plays. South Africa had played in Pakistan 2 years earlier, and apart from Australia and India, most countries were still touring Pakistan. Likewise, even when a suicide bomb went off OUTSIDE the NZ team's hotel in Sri Lanka in the 90s, the rest of the world still continued touring. This is when the country was going through a civil war.

Bangladesh has had weekly attacks on minorities for a year now and it hasn't stopped anybody but Australia. And of course, you're operating under the same delusion that an international team playing the only relevant sport to Bangladesh will receive the same level of security offered to some expat accountant in Dhaka. The fact that you actually think Bangladesh's security level is closer to Pakistan or Afghanistan is laughable, and tells me all about your limited exposure to the outside world.

Not that I should be surprised that a civil servant's sole exposure to international cricket is the quick glimpses of Channel 9 televised Australian cricket he gets in his 15 minute lunch break.

Yes, because clearly YOU are better informed and have made a more reliable security assessment than the Australian intelligence community and indeed their American and/or British partners who likely provided the intel that assessment was based on.

At no point did I compare Bangladesh to Pakistan other than citing that in both cases the prospect of playing international cricket in said countries appears to be highly questionable. But of course I expected no less of you than displaying cognitive dissonance and resorting to ad hominem garbage.

If Australia didn't play because of an adverse security assessment then England won't either you moron. There is a travel warning against travelling to Bangladesh presently in place. I would assume with 99% certainty that the British and NZ government have issued the exact same warning.

I already said we won't know much until we see whether England's tour goes ahead or not. That's the only indication we will have of whether the security situation has changed in the past 12 months. I'm not discussing this with you anymore.

No he is a good pyjama player, just being used in the wrong role. Morgan made his name batting @ 7 and playing as a finisher. Now he is batting @ 4 and being used as a top-order bat which isnt a suitable role for him

problem is England already have a great finisher in Buttlel so they don't really need him in that role anymore. He is essentially redundant.
>>
>>69153506
he's our best white ball batter and they insist on batting him at 6, it's dumb. no other country would do that, yet for some reason we are still strangely set in the way of having a 'finisher' when we have someone at 4 who they deem a 'top order batsman' who isn't scoring runs. he got a hundred last year against new zealand sure, but he hasn't scored 50 for england in 20 innings now
>>
>>69153459
Not really, unless your at the bottom of the batting order. But Root could have saved the ridiculous swinging for the last few balls.
>>
>>69153641
there was 5 balls left with plunkett willey and jordan left to come in, no point just nudging it around
>>
>>69153591
>>69153601
They just need to swap the order then.

Don't know if Buttler could survive at 4 in the long run because he's essentially a meme player.
>>
Just woke up lads haha
>>
>>69153852
haha you absolute madman
>>
>>69153784
he can bat proper innings as shown in the first match, no meme swinging 90 off 90 balls with good running. would you prefer to bowl to buttler or morgan? that's the question you should be asking not trusting some australian's (worst posters on /cric/) opinion
>>
there's no way sri lanka will win this, is there?
>>
>>69154199
90% chance of Englel win from here

SL only hope is if Chandimeme delivers meme magic. He has done it literally once but that was in Test cricket anyway
>>
>>69154113
>he can bat proper innings as shown in the first match, no meme swinging 90 off 90 balls with good running.
That was under pressure due to a top order collapse. He's a good player and should be sent out at 4 in the later overs but he's doing a good job now so there's no need to change anything.

>would you prefer to bowl to buttler or morgan?
Of course Morgan, I haven't seen him play a decent knock in a while.

Also lads, I'm deciding between watching Surrey play meme20 and going for the Lord's tour.

I'll only have time for one so which one will be worth it?
>>
>>69154652

I was kinda hyped for it but then I realised they don't even show it live, it's just a replay from the match the night before.
>>
>surprised that there's a rerun on dave

>'good job now but there's no need to change anything'
he's shown the temprament and ability to bat higher up. imagine a universe where AB was put down the order and did well finishing there, would you say it was a good idea to keep him there 'because he was doing a job job'? the idea of putting him up the order is so he faces more balls, meaning he can do more damage. it's dumb to have someone not scoring runs ahead of someone who can win you games single handedly
>>
>>69154887

Well they had live boxing the other week, and they were billing it as exclusive coverage of the CPL and shit, they never mentioned at all it was just a replay.
>>
>>69154930
>they never mentioned at all it was just a replay
probably because most people won't even notice
>>

Why didn't BT Sports retain the rights?Must have pulled in shit ratings.Maybe they're not interested in Cricket anymore?
>>
>>69155009

Probably shit ratings, although, I have BT sport and never once saw them advertising it or being broadcasted, all they hype up is Football and Rugby, and their ESPN channel.
>>
>>69155104
I remember the advert quite clearly, they had some Caribbean nigger talking on the advert, something like "and don't forget your boy is here too(*camera cuts to KP, as if we consider that Boer "one of us")".
