There is a massive gap between Melo and Giannis, in Melo's favor. He still has zero game away from the rim, is an average rebounder for his position/size, and his passing isn't nearly as good as the raw numbers suggest. He can still only convert very basic, direct passes that aren't going to be as effective with a scouting report out. Even playing more minutes, he put up a decisively worse statline than Melo and wasn't a superior defender either. I love him, but he needs to make massive strides this offseason. PG is crazy overrated after having a few hot playoff games too. His regular season D was worse than Melo's and as always he only contributed offensively for half the season. Melo was playing the best two-way basketball of his career once his post-surgery swelling went down, only got sidetracked once he tripped over a ref and hurt his ankle. Watch games of Melo from the middle of the season, because your perception is miles off from reality.

As far as the trade goes, even if he walks we at least know what the team's core/system looks like with a real PG that can penetrate, along with having an extra $13M or so in cap space next offseason and the opportunity to play KP at the 5 more. Ibaka's role was consistently shrinking in OKC. They basically ignored him half the time on offense and defensively he's dropped off a little bit (still quite good). Kanter is able to play both the 4 and 5 and is one of the best scoring big men in the league, while having improved his defense enough to at least no longer be the worst at his position. With a strong offseason, he can take on a bigger role. Durant at the 4 was a huge success in the postseason too, and he's become an top-tier defender. Then you have Ilyasova and Sabonis acquired in the trade. The Thunder have a million ways they can go with their front court now, and all of them look better than Ibaka. The trade could be just that and it wouldn't be terrible, but they also brought on a guy capable of averaging 20/5/5 with great defense, who fills out almost every weakness the team had.

Ibaka isn't some defensive stud anymore. He's very good, but not indispensable. Durant plays like 9mpg as a PF already, so yes I think it will consistently happen. It won't be the go-to, but it's an effective lineup that the team will use alongside others. Kanter being a defensive downgrade is certainly true, but he's improved his D consistently in recent years. He won't be good on that end, but his offensive superiority can go a long way toward balancing that out. I was extremely impressed by how well he performed on that end for most of the playoffs, actually. Especially considering OKC's defensive scheme wasn't playing to his strengths.
Ilyasova and Sabonis are also far from literally whos. Ilyasova stretches the floor almost as well as Ibaka, while Sabonis already has more offensive polish and rebounding ability. His ceilling is way higher than Ibaka's at this stage.
The important thing is that they now have a permanent solution for the wing, who can ensure that the team fields two excellent scorers in every lineup, as well as being an excellent perimeter defender. If Durant leaves or something, then they have a likely superstar to take his place and can avoid an ugly rebuild. Their front court doesn't get weaker, it just becomes more offense less defense. With Adams continuing to improve, that might not even be an issue either. imo it's a absolute fleece and further drives home the fact that Orlando has no idea what it's building anymore. If they don't already have a huge signing lined up, then nothing they've done in the past calender year makes a lick of sense.

Due to injuries, he spent the first few months of the season defending the opposing team's best offensive player, and consistently shut them down while recording one of the best Diff%'s (opponent's shooting with him matched up vs. normal average) in the NBA. He was also the vocal leader on that end as well, calling out the other team's players and pointing/pulling teammates into the right position.

Jokic came on strong toward the end, but even at his best he wasn't comparable to KP. Jokic was peaking as an efficient 11/9 with sprinklings of defense. KP's normal 14/7 with 1.9 blocks is a statline about a dozen rookies in NBA history have ever pulled off, and he did it while being one of the league's best defenders. He was something like 6th in the entire NBA in opponent FG% inside 6ft, along with consistently switching onto and locking down opposing guards. Of course he cooled off toward the end, because maybe one rookie in the league had a larger role, but even then he played elite defense and was able to be the team's second-best player.
Mind you I was just fucking around when I implied Rose was a superstar, but I certainly don't agree that he isn't top 15 at his position. As far as your list goes, I would agree with everyone on the main one outside of Knight, who really screws up the offense of his teams, terrible facilitator. For the others, dropping PPG all the way to 14 seems excessive to me. But looking at those guys, Oladipo is an SG, Holiday, LaVine (who only averaged 13/3/3 pre-ASB), and Barton spent most of the season competing against inferior competition in bench players. The other guys you can have discussions about, but like I said Rose's production was really hurt by the whole Butler situation and lack of weapons outside of him. Rose was having to pass up a lot of his drives and assist opportunities that would normally be bread and butter. OKC doesn't have enough players who can shoot 3s and not get killed on defense. Even if Ibaka was regressing and about to leave, they should have done everything to be good THIS season. Ibaka at center was the main reason OKC was up 3-1 against Golden State. If they traded him for some 3 and D guys to rev up their depth and small lineups that would be one thing, but now OKC's entire franchise (because if they don't at least make the Finals Westbrook and Durant are gone) hinges on Durant and Adams being able to do the rim protecting job of Ibaka and Adams and Billy Donovan making a playable offense with one shooter on the floor.

No, it was KD at PF, Andre at SF. They were able to limit Curry and Klay this way. Draymond was limited by a combo of Ibaka and KD who both have insane reach.
Ibaka was a second or third reason for it but the offensive ability of Westbrook and KD was always the main reason for anything in OKC.
You don't realize just how much Andre and Dion limit them as a team and fuck with the chemistry. Westbrook tries way too hard when they play bad and acts like he has to pick up the slack for the empty SG position on offense.
OKC for a major part of the GS series was playing 4vs5 on offense.
Ibaka can be replaced by a rotation of Ilyasova and Adams who's proven to be able to guard smaller guys effectively enough. Something Ibaka was having them most trouble with.
Most of OKC's lineup had Ibaka at PF and getting exploited by GS on switches that put him in uncomfortable situations he struggled in.
His contract was up next year and he wasn't fitting the new small ball style of play. It was best that Presti traded him now when he had value instead of keeping him and not getting anything in return when he eventually left.
I love Ibaka but looking at all the new facts about his agent borderline confirming he was leaving, this trade was the best option available.

Advanced stats clearly favor Jokic too.
But it's not about the stats, Jokic has shown rare qualities for someone his size, a 5 able to pass like that is very rare, and when combined with his developed post game, well above average defense and solid shooting all-around makes him for me the better player.

He made just as big of an impact for his team, despite the spacing issues, but also notice that in April he went 10/22 for 3 in 7 games.
So his shooting is not much to worry about since it's fixable.
Didn't mean to diminish Melo, he's obviously the better scorer and technically better than Giannis, but in my opinion, Giannis has been the more productive player this season, especially after the ASB.

His Diff% has not been this impressive (was lower than Steph's and PG's in the reg season for that matter), and this stat is not really accurate (players like Redick and Mozgov are at the top while Faried, Rubio and CP3 are at the bottom).
Other defensive stats like DBPM (which we both agreed that it's the most reliable one and is even negative for Melo), DWS and BKRef's individual DRtg clearly favor Giannis, box score stats too.
