"""""European"""""" GP Aftermath
Le Occasional Podium man strikes again
Plenty of big drivers spilling their spaghetti on the new track.

Our thoughts are with all those who were cheering for Toyota at Le Mans, there is always next year.

I always have trouble remembering races long-term. It's that generally they are unremarkable for the longest time, so I only take with me the highlights, but after a couple of months I can't connect them to the particular GP anymore and they just become "oh I remember when that happened" moments.

Sirotkin is very likely indeed if Sauber survives.
Considering RB's on a super-early promotions rampage, Gasly is a possibility for the STR seat.
I'm very doubtful about Button, I don't think Williams would be willing to pay his fees. Besides, didn't they say that McLaren isn't going to discuss new seats until September? They're pretty much screwing him and Vandoorne, again.

Are these drivers like volunteers ? Do they get salary ?
>>

Sometimes they get a nominal salary, probably just for legal purposes (to appear as actual hired employees), which is only a fraction of what they bring to the team. Most of the times they don't actually pay out of their own pockets, but through affiliated sponsors.
They're not volunteers, they're paying for driving, just like you'd pay to drive bumper cars at the amusement park.

Lynn is shit though and unless he is ultra cheap I don't see a reason he particlarly deserves a race seat.

Renault will also keep Magnussen over Palmer. Palmer is absolute dog shit and doesn't even bring that much money I don't think. Not that Renault is in need to be accepting pay drivers anymore as they have a huge budget now with legitimate aspirations/chances on becoming a top team within the next 2-3 years. They have the money, they have their own engine (that magically got a shitload better once Renault rejoined F1). Renault is only keeping their current lineup because they've completely given up on this season and are only focusing on 2017.

Gasly has shown himself to be the eternal beta and unfortunately there is no recovering from it. Even the likes of Rosberg and even Palmer occasionally drove with more confidence and balls in GP2 so unless TR are really really desperate, I don't see him getting to F1.

I'd also keep in mind Rossi for Haas. It's an obvious move especially now that he is le indy winner. Gutierrez is done.

>phsycal exercise is literally the easiest way to lose weight

It's really not, dieting works much better, since it also gets rid of the incredibly wrong eating pattern he currently has.
Eating just 2000 calories a day could mean losing 1 kg a week for him.

red bull also had a 1.92s pitstop but it was timed by the team and not FOM

ferrari and merc claim to have had 1.85s pitstops but they were timed to the first wheel being taken off and the last wheel being put on rather than the time the car is stationary for.
>>
>>68727831

You don't have to eat green shit or any "clean" foods for that matter. What matters is that you count your calories. Get the "myfitnesspal" app for your phone, enter your height and weight and choose the option to lose 1kg/week. It will give you an amount of calories you should eat and what you need to do is weigh everything you put in your mouth/read the labels of all the shit you eat and log them with the app. You can scan the bar codes using the app aswell and it will enter the calories automatically.

Losing weight is not rocket science and you don't have to switch over to exclusively eating "green shit" and fried veggies. That's what most people believe and it's why most fail. You can lose weight eating the foods you like, no need to switch to shit that makes you puke, you'll just give up after 2 days like that. You can keep eating pizza and all that, the key is moderation.

My prediction for the driver lineups for 2017 is that almost every team is going to be extremely conservative because almost every lineup is actually pretty good and no one really wants an unknown quantity now that the cars are going to start killing again

>Merc no changes

>Ferrari no changes (unless Kimi really fucks up this season. What he is doing now is actually perfect for Ferrari, its just disappointing to see an ex-no. 1 WDC be in that role)

>Red Bull no changes

>Toro Rosso no changes unless Kvyat suicide (they invested so much time into him already, might as well keep him or another year now, plus Gasly really isn't ready nor will he ever be)

>Williams maybe Massa retirement but maybe they like him too much and Rob Smedley is one of the most biased people ever when it comes to Massa

>McLaren no changes - too much experience, Button isn't falling off a cliff and investors/sponsors like him and he gets along well with Alonso, whereas Alonso would probably go full autism again if Vandoorne started beating him

>Force India no changes if they can keep their drivers. Perez might move up maybe

Don't really care about the rest but Palmer and Gutierrez SHOULD be gone, maybe Magnussen if Renault find someone better. Sauber are rippin and Manor and Haas are just shitshows

Look up "flexible dieting" and "IIFYM" for more on this. Like I told you before, there's no need to pay some dude to tell you stuff you can read for free on the internet. /fit/'s sticky has a lot of useful info aswell.

I was 90 kilos of pure fat 4 years ago. Dropped to 68 in 5-6 months eating foods I enjoyed, which included pizzas and chicken and all that. The trick was I weighed everything and tracked my calories.

You should also get a gym membership and lift weights. This will make sure you retain what muscle mass you have and don't just end up a smaller version of your fat self.

Just count calories and eat no more than 1500 a day, the weight will drop off quickly if you have an ounce of self-discipline

If you just diet you go flab because you're not building any muscle where you're losing fat. Although I have to say I've never been that fat so maybe in extreme cases like that it's a lot different, I was able to lose weight at a rate of knot by just doing bicycle every day.

>>
>>68728581

DO NOT start by eating 1500 calories. You weigh around 170kg from what I've read here. You can probably eat around 3500 and still lose weight.

The reason you don't start at 1500 is because your metabolism slows down when you diet and will eventually slow down so much that you will stop losing weight at 1500, even tho you still have a lot to lose. In order to lose more from there means you need to drop calories further...and 1000 calories is less than a 50kg woman eats. You should only lower your calories further when you no longer lose weight.
>>
>>68728577

Thank you for trying to help me.
But I actually need to go to a dietician so I can weight myself because the scale I have will break if I get on.

I'm thinking of aiming for 1 kg a week. That's 48 kg a year, I think it's a good rate. Not too slow but not too fast. If everything goes well I will be at a normal weight in 2 and a bit more years. Sounds good to me. Thankfully I'm still 20 so the damage I have done to my body should not be very bad, at least I hope.
>>
>>68728547

Trying to explain to a fat person how to lose weight is like pissing into the ocean

They always come up with excuses even though it's really fucking easy. The only thing you need is consistency and that's it. Unless you are a retard and were raised by retards, you know what healthy is and what unhealthy is. Be healthy and repeat every day of your life and that's it.

Food is actually an addiction for these people and having witnessed it first hand, it's basically like talking to a drug addict and the behavior will often go as far as to sneak around with junk food and feel anxiety if you're not eating chips or drinking soda. But apparently it's not really that big of a deal, you only die earlier than you would if you smoked your whole life and your entire life revolves around eating, but its not a big deal cuz its just food and candy hehe ;) Fat people are addicted as fuck, which is why they do it. You can't force an addict to stop, they have to want it themselves, which is why it's useless to give them advice.

HOW TO ACTUALLY LOSE WEIGHT:

>stop eating all this retarded shit
>100 years ago there were no fat people except rich fucks, why? because normal food and a normal lifestyle doesn't make you fucking fat
>EAT NORMAL FOOD, AND BE AT LEAST REMOTELY ACTIVE EVERY DAY. This is ALL YOU NEED to be healthy jesus christ
>>
>>68728756

Why does everyone think in numbers? Its easy to measure yes but its so useless when people get obsessed with the scale.

You want to get healthy because you want to feel and look less shit. So just eat healthy and be a normal person until you get to that stage. Maybe weigh yourself like once a month just to see you're on track also read >>68728773

>>
>>68730640

Oh fuck off I'm not attacking Lynn because he's British, I just said he isn't setting the world on fire in GP2 which is currently a total meme field anyway. I can understand getting outshined by Vandoorne last year but this year is so random and often poor that he really should be getting some top results. Which he might to be fair but it's kind of a make or break season for him. I don't even know if winning GP2 is really going to be that big of a thing really this year, at least from the perspective of the F1 teams. The teams seemingly already have their drivers picked out and then they get them to F1 regardless of how they do. Lynn is associated with Williams and Williams don't have that much money so.. maybe but still, I don't think they want Bottas as a team leader really. Who knows

And yea I know Finnish drivers have like no GP2 wins (because most of them just skipped GP2 straight into F1 ;)) and you are right about Finland not having hopefuls though and Kari is currently shitting himself in F3

Why would Renault give Palmer another year? Out of loyalty? For fun? He's bad and there's no point in keeping Ocon or even someone like Sirotkin waiting just to let Palmer have another year (dude is already like 25 and still in his rookie year and still shit)

Yea Who knows about Gasly, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in F1 but I would be very surprised to actually see him do good.

It's obviously a conspiracy. There's definitely no reasonable explanation for this that doesn't involve Mercedes sabotaging their world champion driver Lewis Hamilton.
>>
>>68741293
Of course he did, as it gave him a better chance of winning. It's not like he was a retard who didn't know how to use the car though, he just deferred to people who likely knew better.

Honestly, this conspiracy theory shite Hamilton fans come up with is just hilarious. Rosberg used a cheating engine mode for starts, Merc gave Hamilton useless shit mechanics (who weren't shit when he beat Rosberg fair and square for the last two years, obviously), Merc are sabotaging his car, the stewards are racist, the sun is racist, and so on. He has had some bad luck this season, but a lot of it has been his own mistakes, probably down to lack of focus.

lets give drivers term limits. lets say every five years a driver needs to be voted on by the fans whether they get to stay in the sport or be replaced by upcoming talent

this would stop people like button, alonso, kimi, massa, etc from wasting seats for 10+ years

It'd also be dumb to apply a blanket limit to the years someone can stay in, since it can't be said when drivers are going to hit their peak.

Ok seeing as we are playing the

Every manufacturer has to provide ALL the cars and engines for all the teams for a certain grandprix/circuit. Ferrari Monaco, Mercedes Canada, Redbull Austria etc.
So every race the racers are getting used to a new car but they're all racing with the exact same chasis and power unit etc.
So it would be like GP2.

James Hunt and Niki Lauda did so at least once, at a test session, after going to the same overnight party at a nightclub.

Lauda's car was shit at the start of the day, so he went to sleep in his trailer for a bit. Hunt went out, didn't come back around.

A bunch of McLaren guys panicked, and jumped into a car to the other end of the circuit.

Lauda, who was roused by the commotion, soon found out that the McLaren guys had found the car parked neatly on the grass, and Hunt lying fast asleep in it.

Post the list of things that you'd like to see back, which would make F1 more interesting

>gravel traps and grass instead of asphalt runoff

I'd like to see cars beach and retire due to botched dive-bombs or messing up their braking

>removal of parc ferme after quali, return of sunday morning warm-up

More scope of position changes after qualifying, with teams who got Saturday setup wrong getting a chance to fix their mistakes

>Better wet tyres, less SC in the wet

The start of Monaco this year was less wet than the whole of the '97 race, yet it was under SC. Why? If shitters like Joe, Lee & Palmer crash while others don't, isn't that an indicator of driver skill?

>Better camera work, no more long, wide-frame shots in which the cars look like they're crawling down the straights

Enough with the Rolex shilling, I'd rather see cars actually looking fast.
>>
>>68756531
>>removal of parc ferme after quali, return of sunday morning warm-up
Decent idea.
>>Better wet tyres, less SC in the wet
Don't blame the tyres, the FIA's overly cautious post Bianchi.
>>
>>68757067

But the overly cautious SC starts have been a thing for a while... Remember Korea 2010? Or Canada 2011, where Schumacher immediately pitted for inters after a Safety Car restart?
>>
>>68756531
Balti Buddy how would you like some sort of promotion/relegation between the formulas with some sort of neutral FIA built cars for smaller teams that may not have the setup to adapt their previous car when promoted or relegated lets say a GP3 team progressing with talent but not much cash. They get rewarded for being GP3 champs with a GP2 standard car for them as well as prize money. Add something like a team must build their own car if deemed to be stable enough in a new formula. Teams can sell off their old cars to teams who need them maybe? Would probably never work out but would be nice.

tl,dr League format in racing
>>
>>68755793
>I've heard that they've been pushed away from the flashy Ken Block style and went back to the McRae roots with it. >How true is that?
DiRT Rally is entirely absent of Block. In fact, I would call the presentation minimalist, even sober. If it's the McRae route I am not sure. The McRae games attempted arcaded authenticity, I'd say that they are going for a simulated authenticity here. Not a full sim, the game isn't fleshed out enough to, at worst a simcade. Great attempt though, the best rallygame since Richard Burns Rally, if not a better attempt. Definitely feel that they had a tight budget and a small team. Corners have been cut but not in the handling department.
An amazing game with little content.
>>
>>68757360

It sounds like a good idea in theory, but considering the budgets, technology, and experience required to succeed in F1, it'd probably end up being the same teams relegated over and over. Even with old equipment from top teams, there's no way a new team could jump in and be competitive. See Caterham, Marussia and Virgin. They were essentially upgraded GP2 teams.

Even the FIA doesn't have enough of a spare budget to give enough prize money for a team to be not shit at the higher levels of motorsport.

The analogy with divegrass can only go so far, because the differentiating factor in it is simply the skill levels of the players. With so many variables involved in motor racing which are out of drivers' hands, I don't think it'd hold up.

TL;DR - Interesting but almost entirely unfeasible

They became far too common after 2008, as far as I could tell, although the practice of bringing out the SC because 'too wet' first happened at the start of Spa 1997.

That one too was criticized by Alan Jones, IIRC, saying that it set a poor precedent (and he was spot on)

Here's a question guys

Why do F1 only allow there to be one Grand Prix from each country?

I mean obviously they have found ways to get around it (the European Grand Prix, the San Marino Grand Prix). But if you're going to do that then why make up stupid names? Why not just name them from the city they're from, e.g. the Monza Grand Prix and the Imola Grand Prix? Or the Valencia Grand Prix and the Barcelona Grand Prix?

It's just an arbitrary rule, and they break it when they want, so what is the reasoning behind the rule in the first place?
>>
>>68763950
They are just not being autistic about it
>>
>>68763950
It sort of started out that way, a Grand Prix used to be a very prestigious event so it would only happen once a year in a given country. Before the World Championship (which started in 1950), there was never more than one Grand Prix in any country in a given year.

As for naming them after cities – it sometimes happens when the particular Grand Prix is already taken (e.g. Pescara), or for promotional purposes (e.g. Abu Dhabi and Detroit). Most of the time promoters prefer to use the country name, though, as it's more prestigious.
>>
>>68763950

It's not a rule as such, AFAIK, the nomenclature is only to prevent confusion.

The US used to have 2 races, the United States Grand Prix West at Long Beach, and the United States Grand Prix East at Watkins Glen back in the early 80s, but in general, naming by country name was from the era when there was only 1 F1 race per country.

I'd imagine the reasoning at the beginning of the Grand Prix era was that while the country may host many races, only one should be the most prestigious and carry the Grand Prix tag.
>>
>>68764241
>As for naming them after cities – it sometimes happens when the particular Grand Prix is already taken (e.g. Pescara), or for promotional purposes (e.g. Abu Dhabi and Detroit).
Ah yeah you're right. Forgot about Abu Dhabi.

>Most of the time promoters prefer to use the country name, though, as it's more prestigious.
True and I understand why Baku wanted the "European" title because they want their city to be seen as "European". But it's the old European GPs which seem stupid... why not just call the Nürburgring race the Rhineland GP or something like that. And call the Valencia race the Valencian GP.

Most F1 sponsors are not selling consumer products, they are selling to other businesses or to governments. They are promoting their access to F1 to court clients.

This is why Bernie doesn't really care about TV ratings, an F1 race weekend is a "business conference" first, a TV show and sporting event second.

Luckily Baku had the newness of the track going on, otherwise it would have been the worst race of the season. I have to say, I was surprised there wasn't a single safety car in Baku. WELL DONE BAKU?
>>
>>68793356
>>68793447
Pros:
>Much better racing than last year
>More fuck ups from teams and drivers
>Less predictable title race than 2014/15
>Ferrari and Red Bull seemingly closer to the Mercs
>HAM getting fucked over a lot for some odd reasons (whether this is a pro/con depends on what you think of HAM, but since you're on /f1/, I'll assume you don't like him)
>A very tight midfield battle for the teams behind Merc, Ferrari, RBR, and in front of Sauber and Manor

Cons:
>Even though it's not as prevalent, it's still very definitively, MWL.
>If you're a Ferrari fan
>If you hate ROS more than HAM

I'd say it's been decent. Very good for V6-era standards. The engine still sounds sub-par but is noticeably better. Take that as you will.
