We've reached a plateau in blowouts and they are slightly down from the early '00s.
The biggest year ever for blowouts (games decided by 5 or more runs) was 1999, with 729. That number fell to a 20-year low of 588 in 2011 and has been creeping back up since then.
So far this season there have been 275 blowouts, which would put us at well over 600 at that rate, probably around 650 or so.
Naturally, the number of blowouts is directly proportional to the average runs scored each season, which got really jacked up from the late '90s to late '00s, before declining some the last five years or so. It's creeping back up, so you will see more blowouts because of that.
