That shit is fucking cool, it's just been discouraged in all our other sports. Football and basketball have to be all "family friendly," you might see groups of fans with signage for their seating area at NBA or MLB games, but for the most part it's pretty laid back. These traditions were formed before we as a country had exposure to soccer (or any non-U.S.) culture, and they're fine but sort of boring.

European style tournament, 3 big teams that almost always win, but ocassionally some underdog makes it. Pretty boring most of the time since the best players are all in more competitive leagues (england, germany, etc). The biggest clubs are colo-colo, which are basically a bunch of savages, universidad católica (always second for years), and the glorious Universidad de Chile, my alma mater. Just ended. The next season starts on mid july. Universidad Católica won this one time but it doesn't counts since they only managed by points and not actual field playing. They use the names of the universities because of tradition, when it started (XIX century in the case of Universidad de Chile) there where actual students playing. Now they are allowed to still use the name by paying an amount to the University. However, there are still strong ties between the club and the University, is not like anyone will just put a club together and offer more money just to get the permission to use the name. It has been the same institution since the early days, so to speak.
