agreed. this second-WC format is bullshit and should be put down like a dying horse.
the postseason is already potentially another tenth or so of a season for each team, and we don't need the pool of talent to be diluted even further.

>>
So have the baseball stat nerds gotten around to inventing a stat for baserunning effort, like a plus for errors forced due to always running at full speed and minus for bases given up due to a halfassed jog while the fielder is juggling the ball

so just for future arguments sake please reply to this post if you think

1) Jackie bradley junior will be hitting at an all star level by July

>>
>>67565114

how is that relevant to the 2016 all star team selection?
>>
>>67565138
Probably both, for sure 2.

He was always supposed to be a great hitter, it just never came together until now
>>
>>67565148
Because he's been tremendous? It's a rolling statistic. And that doesn't take away from the fact that JBJ was tremendous defensively in 2014.

>>67565163
Yeah, all it takes to make him a great hitter is a fucking .400 BABIP. Just never came together.
>>
>>67565158
Well when you make 1 error a season you can make a pretty easy judgement that whatever error he made this year is probably one of MAYBE 3, to give you some generosity

I don't know how that isn't relevant quite frankly

And JBJ has a 16 DRS and an 18.6 UZR for his career.

Eaton? 11 DRS and -11.3 UZR

I don't even know why I'm bothering arguing this because I like Eaton and I like the White Sox.

But to say JBJ isn't a good defensive fielder is absolutely absurd.
>>
>>67565230

No shit? Eaton is thriving as a RF.

I'm not even the other anon, he should be the RF for the ASG to this point because he's been fabulous.

But calling JBJ a bad CF is RETARDED.

Once you get to one and three-year samples, it’s a relatively solid metric but defensive itself is quite variable so you need a good amount of data for the metrics to become particularly useful. There’s plenty more to say about this issue, but that’s for another entry. In general, DRS isn’t perfect because it doesn’t factor in shifts, positioning, and can’t perfectly measure everything it needs to, but it’s still among the best options out there.

John Farrell is not the best manager in baseball, but he certainly isn't incompetent

2014 they lost Ellsbury. They signed Piershitski who proceeded to suck dick as usual and let Salty go. They brought in Sizemore who added to his embarassing shit underachieving career. Dempster gone for the season, resigning Drew and Napoli who were both god awful, and then fire sale gave up on the season.

2015: Hanley is a dumpster fire for whatever reason. Sandoval isn't much better. Lost Lester, replaced with Porcello, who again, sucks. Trade Middlebrooks for Hannigan (uhg). Trade Cespedes (UHG).

Farrell had nothing to do with the last two seasons, the GM was to blame.

I have a lot of things to address in this post but am too tired to write out a lengthy response, so I'll put it this way before going to sleep:

He's incompetent as an in-game manager. We haven't ad the proper personnel (obviously), but he has routinely made terrible decisions as an in-game manager for the past two years. And if you don't think his over-extending on players like Victorino, Sanodfatass, and Napoli and refusal to play guys like Shaw or Holt over them isn't the most glaring, egregious displays, then I can't help you.

Bring this up again some other time, I'd love to go over it.
>>
>>67565877
>the potential GOAT defensive outfield of Cespedes, JBJ and Mookie in Fenway
the only OF hits would be off the Monster

but it wasn't worth getting Cespedes for Lester. Lester was part of the old guard, man. And he was our only reliable starter, period.
>>
>>67565907
Hey, I agree to some of it, but you know he couldn't start Shaw and Holt (and Nava more often) instead of his superstars. You never know when a player might return to their regular play, and 99% or the time it is the right thing to do. Honestly, it was a real perfect storm of nobody doing their jobs, Farrell can't take all the blame for Napoli hitting below the mendoza line, he just has to find his swing again, etc. And btw there he is now back to his good ol' self right now. Fuck you Napoli.

Then Cherington said "lol I can do blockbuster trades too" and sent a disgruntled Lester to Oakland in a lost season for a guy with a pretty big bat and a bigger arm. Both were essentially rentals for the other team, but that left us with no pitching whatsoever. Then the Five Aces Plan materializes, etc. and here we are.

Fuck you, FO, for screwing up the Lester negotiations. That fucking idiot Dan Duquette did the same thing in his first year as GM with Clemens and look what happened when he left, outside of signing Pedro.

Rose, A-Rod, Bonds, Ramirez, and Clemens probably won't get in due to rule breaking. (Rose apparently might be reinstated, so he could get in.)

Walker played in Coors Field for the majority of his career, and most of his better offensive seasons came when he played there, a sign pointing to him not getting in.

Joe Mauer definitely has a shot, he was a great defensive as well as offensive catcher when he played there, won a few gold gloves and an MVP award.

Other than that I agree with the players you chose.

So, If Montreal got an expansion team, would that history be stripped from the Gnatinals?

Also, expansion when? They could get rid of Interleague if they wanted to. But I guess they'd have to reormat the playoffs with 32 teams

They're first in their division right now, but the Mets are right behind them. The Mets went to the World Series last season too, so they'll have their work cut out for them.

They also have two of the best starting pitchers in the league right now, and their Outfielder Bryce Harper is arguably the greatest player on the planet right now.

The records would still belong to them, I think. That kind of thing doesn't get moved around except with ownership changes.

I'm not a soccer fan, but IIRC when the original San Jose Earthquakes moved to become the Houston Dynamo, the Dynamo kept the original records along with the championship they won in SJ, and they kept the star in their logo while the new Earthquakes couldn't use it. I think any Expos 2 would similarly not be allowed to claim the original Expos' record.

Baltimore asked the Irsay's permission to use the Colt name when the Browns move and they said no (despite the Irsay's not being owners during any of the Colts titles). Jim Irsay just wanted to claim any success as his or his fathers own despite not being involved at all. Found it funny thought that Johnny Unitas gave a big middle finger to them and the NFL by saying he'd rater be associated with the Ravens than the Colts.
>>
>>67576720
It's not about the name. It's about the lineage of the ownership, like I've been telling you.

The Expos could have renamed themselves to the Senators when they moved to DC, but it wouldn't have taken the original Senators' records away from the Rangers.

Right now they look like the second best team in the NL, but it's hard to say how their season will turn out. The mets are streaky as hell, and Harvey/Degrom owned Harper last season. Harvey is pitching like fat diarrhea, but he's had trouble locating his pitches in the past and always bounced back. Also, Syndergard has gone from a dangerous rookie to one of the most dominant starters in the league since midseason of last year, and a more power oriented offense could steal one or two starts from Scherzer.

Still, as a mets fan I am terrified how good the nats are as a regular season team.

Why would anyone within driving distance of a major league team even want to go to a minor league game? Minor league teams are for flyovers.

The entirety of foul territory will be netted by the end of the decade, and fair territory by 2030

It's not baseball's fault that kike owners won't expand the netting at their parks.

The nl west is hot trash this year. What the fuck happened? Are the Giants just charging their meme powers

Are the Pirates destined to be cucked in the WC game until fall back into irrelevance?

Also, who will send those sad sacks home this year? Mets, Nats, Jints or Doyers?

There's a good chance they don't even get a WC spot.
