Not surprising, analysis of finances suggest that over the past few years before transfers there has been a profit of ~30m. Having spent so little last year there is probably about a 50m of worry free cash. That with the old man trio freeing up wages is plenty of money.

Of course if the 'right player' becomes available then we can quite easily dip into the reserves, especially with the new TV deal bringing in some more money.

Spending 150m on the latest meme players is not going to fix this team

I think Wenger will spend big this transfer window.
Add up that Wenger has proven himself to be one of the best coaches in the PL ( you don't stay that long at Arsenal if you're not) we might actually challange for the title.

>HonKon is a Welbeck fan
>>
>>67568491
Not a fan but why would you hate him this much?
>>
>>67568521
He is shit. And has been shit his whole career. A striker who can't even score 10 league goals a season but gets away with it because >muh workrate and "he brings something different to the team."
We needed a proper striker but instead a joke of a striker like Welbeck was signed and the majority of fans accepted it. There were even people saying that Wenger will turn him good and his best is yet to come. They had the nerve to compare Welbeck to Henry.
He played for a rival team but we still signed him and accepted him like nothing was wrong with that. Also he has never worked as hard for Arsenal as he did for Man Utd.
Why would you sign your rival's worse striker in the first place? We sold them our best striker since Henry in RVP then bought their worst striker for years. It's ridiculous.
He's not even PL standard but his injury has reports saying we need a "replacement" for him. Like he's that important and we wouldn't need a striker if he wasn't injured.

I could probably go on a bit more but I feel like that's enough.
>>
>>67568637
But he scored that fairytale goal vs Leicester...
>>
>>67568637

welbeck is prem standard if he can sort out his injuries - you're being far too harsh on him

absolutely agree we need a much better starting striker though, welbeck is a useful backup (he is tactically useful against strong treams due to his workrate for instance) and so is giroud, but neither are good enough to start

desu i think part of the reason he doesnt work as hard as he did for united is simply the manager, ferguson was a master of getting players to give absolutely everything...whereas wenger...not so much

The Arteta slander from Arsenal fans is too damn high and it irritates me.

Yes. For the past 2 years he has been an absolutely pointless liability and he's clearly declined massively as a footballer due to age and injury. BUT he's our captain for a reason, he gets a lot of respect from our players.

Not only that, but he was a great player in his first couple seasons with us before age destroyed him. Niggas are ALREADY forgetting the god-tier Arteta-Wilshere-Cazorla midfield triangle?

I swear to god if he doesn't get a big ovation when he leaves the club tomorrow I will not be happy. That's our captain.
>>
Lads I'm having a dilemma.

I was talking to a mate about the Euros, and I ended up bringing up how I thought Jack was always brilliant when he plays for England and how if he's fit he should go for the Euros.

He laughed, which I predicted as everyone hates Wilshere, but then he said that Wilshere is literally never good for England and that he's a passenger in the midfield for them and doesn't try.

How do I prove that this isn't true.

I don't get it. Woy literally centres the team around the man.

Arsenal's youth scouts seem to predominantly target black, inner city kids for some reason. This has been going on for some time now.

While Jack was absolutely outstanding in those games. Probably better than he ever has been for Arsenal (why doesn't Arsene play Jack as deep playmaker?). I don't think he should just walk straight back in to the Euros squad after a couple of okay games for Arsenal.

Especially as Drinkwater has been playing that role to a similarly high level all season and offers more defensively.
>>

I'd prefer Dier there to Drinkwater tbhwy. I wouldn't even take Drinky to the Euros.

>>
>>67582785
>Sturridge on the wing
>>
>>67582810
'on the wing' probably isn't quite accurate.

In my imagining he'd play like a second striker but off to the right a bit. He'd also play central as Kane moves deep at times.
>>
>>67582785

>Sterling
>Sturridge on the wing
>Walker and Rose not being completely exposed when outside poch's system

That would be horrible as per usual
>>
>>67582785

I would never take Walcott on current form. It's like playing with 10 men when he's on the pitch at the moment. The boy has absolutely 0 confidence in himself right now.

As for the team, I'd play a diamond with Alli in behind the strikers, Wilshere alongside Henderson and Dier sitting in front of the defence. I'd go for a combination of Kane/Sturridge/Vardy up top.
>>
>>67582907
>Walker and Rose not being completely exposed when outside poch's system

Yeah that's the worry but I think the most important element is covered with Dier playing in front of and occasionally in the defence.

So, who will you bandwagon after Arsenal becomes a mid-table team?

Or will you become like liverpoop fans and live of past glories and the occasional cup run?

Kek, why in the world would Arsenal have any bandwagon fans? There hasn't been a bandwagon to climb onto for over a decade. While the league fluctuates wildly in terms of competitiveness and teams at the top, Arsenal remain constant... in 3rd/4th place with no creditable run in the CL. That kind of perennial non-achievement hardly draws the /lifelong/ crowd.
>>
>>67584802
>why in the world would Arsenal have any bandwagon fans?
The same reason Liverpoop still has them. Look at this thread, half the posters aren't even English. They're bandwagoners from a better era that still have some hope.

You hardly ever find a foreign fan of, lets say, Southampton or Crystal palace. Its because those clubs had jack shit in the past. Its always Arsenal, Manutd, Chelsea, Liverpool and lately Man shitty or whichever club is/was a powerhouse at one point.

Let’s have an eating contest.” No reason, really, it was just something to do. We must have had about eight dinners. Bouldy won by a mile: he had nine. Why does no one talk about chelsea in terms of potential buys? They're in midtable and many of their players will probably be wanting to leave at the end of the season. It could be possible to nab one or two on the cheap. There are rumors of Matic potentially going to city so if this is true then wenger should also consider signing him if he's available. I'd take Matic over this Xhaka bum anyday, and he'll be cheaper. There's always a chance of Zouma wanting to join another BPL club, he's a good prospect. I'd have Costa over Jiroo a million times over even if Costa is a dickhead and he'll be cheaper than Benzema.
>>
>>67593261
>This delusion

Chelsea would sell to literally any other club than us mate.
>>
>>67593345
You mean like they did with Cech?

These players will want to leave and the club won't have a choice but to sell them to prevent a rift in the dressing room as a result of the shit season they just had. Anyone can go anywhere as long as you get them interested in your club before anyone else does for their club. Gazidis should be working his ass off trying to get these players at all cost. We can satisfy their monetary needs so getting them to buy into the clubs philosophy is the only thing left.
>>
>>67593481
Cech wanted to stay in London and had strong relationship with Abramovich so he was allowed to choose his club.

Can't see that happening with Costa, Hazard, Zouma or Matic getting that same treatment.
Though I'd prefer Xhaka than Matic personally.

Because Wenger has said that Jack is a #10 and nothing but a #10 and even said that England is using him wrong during those performances and Wenger is the type to not admit that someone else might have a good idea.

>>67582785
Isn't that midfield a bit too static?

Personally I'd put Wilshere next to Dier and Vardy instead of Sterling, but I also expect Hodgson to somehow force Henderson, Milner and maybe even Lallana and Rooney in.

Arsène was a one-off manager for me. Such a clever man with such a knack at understanding people. But he could also be a walking disaster. He would do something accidentally every day. A typical example was when we were all doing a stretching exercise. One of the relaxation methods we used was to lie on our backs and raise our legs up against the wall, leaning them like that for a couple of minutes or so. Completely silent. Arsène used to do everything with us. On one occasion we were in this large room in a hotel and he put his legs up against a partition wall rather than a solid one. He went straight through it. He just rolled over and went into the other part of the room. We were supposed to be being serious and calm but it was impossible not to laugh. Arsène came back in and we had to try to be quiet but out of the corner of your eye you could see people sniggering.

That Ospina and Emi Feel.jpg

Arsène was so clever at identifying great players to come in. But there were one or two gambles that didn’t quite come off. In the summer of 2000 a player turned up on trial at our pre-season tour. He was a tall centre-half. Now, Martin Keown was always worried about people coming in to steal his position. If we had a centre-half on trial, Martin would say he was useless. This big guy from Latvia, Igors Stepanovs, turned up. He was a unit, but seriously, he was not up to standard.

A few of us were on the bench watching as he played in this trial game. Stepanovs is out there and every single pass he made, the boys started applauding, just because we knew Martin would be getting a bit steamed up by it. Dennis Bergkamp was sitting behind Arsène and kept doling out these compliments about this defender. “Great header! Unbelievable tackle!” Igors kicked this one ball 20 yards away from where it was meant to go but it still went to one of our players so we all stood up clapping. Martin’s muttering: “He’s not that good.” He started to point out where he missed a tackle or a header.

When we got back to the training ground at London Colney a week later we had a surprise though. Igors was sitting there. I said: “What are you doing here?” “They signed me. Four-year contract.”

Incredible. Arsène didn’t know we were just trying to tease Martin. He just kept listening to us heaping praise on this player. And if Dennis Bergkamp stands up and says: “What a player,” Arsène would be entitled to take a bit of notice. I suppose it looked like a bargain at around £1m. No disrespect to anyone from the lower leagues but Igors was a yard behind us on the pitch, it was like taking my brother to training.

A bandwagon fan is someone who jumps on and off the bandwagon depending on the team's success. It's an American sporting term for the sudden surges in fanbase that seems to come and go for every team that experiences success.

I wouldn't describe our foreign fans as bandwagoners. They've stuck through too much mediocrity to be described as such at this point. They may not have the same connection to the club as I do but they're not a bunch of fleeting bandwagoners either.

Arsenal generate substantial profits every season and have cash reserves of £220,000,000-£250,000,000.

We are not some crisis-ridden side forced into austerity because of a horrible financial situation. We're one of the most profitable, most valuable, most cash-rich teams in all of Europe.

Wenger deserves credit for stabilising the club between 2006-2013 - our rude financial health is testament to that - but he's had major resources at his disposal since then.

To argue that he somehow didn't have the resources to bring in a major outfield player in 2015/16 is ludicrous. It makes a mockery of the financial planning that has taken place over the last 10 years to suggest that Arsenal went into 2015/16 with less money to spend than 75% of the league.

What is this holy grail of long-term stability that you're chasing? Cash reserves of £400,000,000? Yearly profits of £70,000,000? At what point will Arsenal finally be ready to invest its resources in the team rather than the bank?
