the irony is that hamilton's talent is costing him the championship.
Ferrari get engine failures because they're pushing hard tog et closer to mercedes, mercedes had to step it up and sacrificed their engine's reliability to keep getting ahead. Rosberg is not as good as hamilton to push his car to the limits, hamilton can and since he has shit starts he pushes even more, resulting in damaging in power units in the long run.

Mercedes chose to make the call after the gap went down from 12 to 8 seconds. Of course they like to pretend they let their drivers race, they are always saying that, but in the end they don't want to risk the chances of a wheel to wheel battle if Lewis managed to get in DRS range.
It looks less obvious if they make the call when the gap is still 8 seconds instead of waiting to se what happens. Of course you can argue it wasn't a team order but I cant possibly not consider this after the way Toto stuttered to explain how they 'fixed' Lewis problem and the long time it took him to 'remember' what kind of problem Nico had.

Better to have a fast but inconsistent driver rather than an average and inconsistent one
Kvyat is really stretching the limits of his luck to be honest. Even his "great" China result was hugely affected by the fact that 2 Ferraris were eliminated, Hamilton wasn't at the front, and his teammate got a puncture while in front of him. He was never even better than Ricciardo during that whole weekend honestly. Ricciardo is generally blowing him out of the water consistently and I didn't even rate Ricciardo too much higher than the likes of JEV etc until recently. There's honestly no point in keeping him at Red Bull if he drives like this and isn't even that fast in the first place.
I still refuse to believe Ricciardo is God's gift to motorsport despite his results against Vettel, so Kvyat honestly should and needs to be matching him every race if he wants any chance of keeping his seat. Fuck at this point you could probably drop Sainz into the car and he would do an equal or better job than Kvyat.
>yfw its was putin in kvyats car

>>67258731
>Fuck at this point you could probably drop Sainz into the car
Sainz is underrated imo, maybe not as good as max but close. He has had much worse luck, and the races he does better than max are usually races where STR isn't very strong
>>67258780
He REALLY doesn't.
He used to live there.
>>67258874
kek, pastor never wrecked his car like that last year.
>>67258820
Yeah, I think he is close to Max if not better at quali actually. I think he outqualified him more often in 2015 but I don't remember exactly
I think both of the TR boys suffer from over-eagerness which results in fucked up strategies and tires getting destroyed too early. Older drivers are more pragmatic and realistic when it comes to fuel saving etc but Sainz and Verstappen often just drive flat out and have to make an extra pit stop as a result. This is basically a flaw in F1 in general but a driver should be able to accept the reality of the situation. Kimi even said that if he could push flat out every lap then he probably could have had similar pace to Mercs but he can't so he doesn't

7 wins in a row for Luckberg now.
How many more until he gets the record?
Assuming Mercedes get their shit sorted out reliability-wise, it honestly seems unbelievable that Rosberg couldn't win the championship at this point. It's going to need some colossal choking to fuck it up. Granted its a long season but he has such a comfortable lead at this point that he could sit out the next 2 races and it wouldn't even be a disaster.
I'm sure Hamilton will come back strong eventually but he has like 43 points to make up. Granted this is somewhat "easy" to make up if Rosberg suffers some DNFs but if he doesnt, Rosberg could finish second to Hamilton for the next six races and still be leading the championship
I'm predicting that he's going to win Spain even if Hamilton has a problem-free race and quali. Dunno about Monaco but historically he has been strong there.
If he honestly manages to choke this away, its going to be remembered as the biggest choke beta moment in the history of the sport. He's already topping so many stat lists and records that it's going to be ultra embarrassing if he ends up not having a title to show for it in the end.

>>67259871
The only person who has more wins than him in a row is Vettel with 9. No one has won 8 races in a row (except Vettel of course). It actually is kind of an astounding record even if it is split between two seasons. It's more consecutive wins than Hamilton managed for example.
Only Mansell and Schumi have more consecutive race wins from the first race of the season with 5, and those were done in some brutal domination eras.

He already has 4, and probably has another decade left in the sport as Ferrari's no. 1 driver. Maybe even 15 if he wants to go full Schumi. He'll get more titles eventually. Considering how much he's already achieved and the fact that he is literally 28 (aka 3 years older than Jolyon Palmer), it would not be surprising at all to see him break many of Schumacher's results, especially knowing how comfy his relationship with Ferrari is and how he can probably stay there for as long as he wants.
But yea this season is looking like pretty much a write off as far as the title battle goes. At least Hamilton is getting BTFOed at least...

If you discount the Indy race (as the vast majority of the F1 field didn't participate in, despite it being part of the champion's hip), then it's 9

He knows on pure pace it's still the same as last year, Lewis is faster in qualy and in the race. It cant be stopped.
What is the biggest points lead that a driver has managed to choke away?
What are some notable instances of a driver who dominated the early season and ended up choking away the title by the end?
>>67260538
Also, it only took Lewis 16 races last year to win the championship. We still have 17 to go this season.

>>67260602
>17 races with a 45 point deficit
>the same as 16 races to win the championship
I agree with you that Lewis still has more than a chance to win but that's a completely irrelevant point
>>67260538
Lewis would still need considerable bad luck for Rosberg
I'm sounding a bit Rosberg-defence-force here but honestly it's not like Rosberg is a total shit driver and that it's a clear-cut case of Hamilton always being the better driver. Hamilton outqualified Rosberg once since like Singapore last year, every other time Rosberg has been on pole, and Hamilton isn't a weak qualifier at all.
I do think Hamilton is the better driver overall but it's really not that clear to say he is always better than Rosberg, as there have been instances where neither driver suffers bad luck and Rosberg ends up being the faster and better driver overall. It's not like once Hamilton's car gets sorted out, Rosberg will never win again. He will probably win less, but still Hamilton has a lot of catching up to do, which will become even more difficult if we throw in Red Bull into the mix and maybe even Ferrari get their shit sorted and start challenging for wins at some point as well.
>>67260189

Yep.
The track is easily the most uninspired on the whole calendar and it certainly doesn't help that there used to be a pretty good racetrack there before.
There's just about nothing cool about the track except the top speeds due to altitude. The stadium section is "cool" in the way the stands are set up but it literally kills the flow of the track even more than anything before it and as you said, basically neuters what used to be based peraltada.
Considering how enthusiastic the fans are there, they should really have invested in a track that actually promotes decent racing. Or you know, repaved the old one and just gone with it

It was heavily overshadowed that Gutierrez crashed into the back of Hulkenberg and basically did what Kvyat did into Turn 2, and no one talks about it.
Basically ended the race of 2 other drivers. Still at 0 points whilst le solved prost scoring points all the time. What do people see in this driver? He was shit at Sauber and he is showing to not be any better right now either. Why keep him hired? I doubt Haas particularly needs the money he brings anyway. I get that he had a decent junior career but that was ages ago and he has had plenty of time to show any promise in F1 and he's literally done nothing of any worth in these 4 races. not possible mate. They are honestly in a different dimension. This is not some pol tier shit, but I honestly think that people think Russians are somehow very similar to Europeans because they are the same skin color and more or less look quite similar to Europeans, so they are just assumed to be regular white people. But they are on a totally different level of life altogether, I mean Finland was part of Russia and we are right next to them, so you would assume that we would be quite similar and understand each other well, but it's honestly like they're from another world. No you see that doesn't work as the calendar isn't built around Monaco.
Winning Monaco is great but it isn't the reason there is a championship. It isn't bigger than the championship.
Le Mans is bigger than the WEC.
If you don't win the Le Man your season is pointless. You have accomplished nothing. No one gives a flying fuck about who won the championship.
Every other race is just essentially testing for Le Mans.
They should completely switch the season around so it goes over winter and Le Mans is last race.
Until they start allowing different lengths of race over of 6 hours it will always remain that way.
>>67270737
