Acestream used to get flagged up by AV because they tried to do browser injection and hijacking when they got greedy. That got them flagged and they bitched for about 6 monthys with Kaspersky who didn't budge, so now they have opt-in adverts and shit when you install.
I've been using acestream on linux for about two years and there's nothing wrong with it at all, I would never go back to paying for sports, ever.
If you're worried then just run it in a VM or boot into your linux partition when you want sports. You do have a linux partition, right?

If you have a shit connection (i.e. less than 2mbps upload) then please don't use acestream, you'll fuck it up for everyone else on the stream. Use the reddit link above to find the best flash streams, you can pretty much trust they'll be safe, just remember to use adblock or a custom hosts file.

If you're trying to watch NFL you really can't do better than reddit. They usually have m3u8 links. You might need a US VPN for some of them but most are fine without. Seriously the few bucks you'd need for the cheapest options would be worth it.
Another option is ustvnow.com, with a free account you can watch games that air on ABC, NBC, FOX. Meaning some national NFL/NBA games, select few NHL...

Whatever you want to watch that particular day, go to reddit and find the streaming sub for that sport/league (r/soccerstreams, r/nflstreams, etc), click the game you want to watch and there will be plenty of links. That's usually the best way.
