I grew up in Milwaukee not really caring about sports and only barely knew of the brewers back when we had CC who was like the only athlete I liked until I started getting into Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. When CC went to New York, I started looking up Baseball and read about Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig and stuff so I decided to be a Yankees fan. It also worked because the more I learned about baseball, the more I hated the NL cause pitcher batting and "strategy" is dumb but the Yankees are in the AL so it works.

Ruth was a trade. Guys like Gehrig, DiMaggio, Berra (who wasn't good enough for the Cardinals) and Mantle were all scouted and signed, and worked their way up through the farm system. DiMaggio and Mantle were considered risks because of their history of injuries.
Then when you get into more recent times most were drafted by the Yankees. Munson, Jeter, Mattingly, Guidry, Pettitte, etc.
