/afl/ sadly only came into contention when trips arised (mainly convict and his aliases) in 2012 to help Ridgway, kowalski and DECL establish a semi-permanent community. Then there was Dyson. And then suddenly 10-15 trips trips all shitting over each other. Honestly I think flags were the reason which encouraged /afl/ to become a thing.
/afl/ was bad then but today it's just cooked, it's not even shit because there is nothing to judge it on, it's basically non-existent, the community solely has to rely on the sport being entertaining now for traction on here. Not to mention back then during the week there would be random /afl/ threads popping up for no real reason (Daily reminder Collingwood will win the flag etc.), the first cases of "please watch our sport" though they weren't as self-aware as they are today. You can tell those trips are long gone and the ones who are still posting as anon never really mattered
