Indycar isn't quite a spec car. The chassis is the same but there are two engine manus that are drastically different.
They also have "aero kits" so each engine manufacturer also sponsors aerodynamic research for cars of their marque. Within each team they run different configurations and stuff.
BTW I did not know Indycars are faster in a straight line. But that has a lot more to do with how much downforce they have dialed in, I believe. Do Indycars have more HP?

I think F1 technically has more (about 950-1000 hp) but due to fuel saving (only 100kg fuel per race) and fuel flow rate limits, they don't have as much all the time. It's mostly about the aero though, Indycars are much slippery-er.

Indycar power depends on the track. For this track I would guess they're around 600. For a street track it will be slightly higher.
In F1, the Mercedes engine is estimated to be near 1000hp.

F1 has a lot more gadgetry than indycar (ers, drs, moreintricate aero). Indycar is a much more simple car (as relatively simple as a carbon tub turbo charged car can be). In reality? Both are blindingly fast racecars that mere mortals would have no hope of driving near pace.

Because they aren't. The current F1 cars have crazy top end after they shrank the wings (210mph like everywhere while IndyCar only clears 200 on speedways), they just don't race on ovals.
LMP1 cars are actually the fastest under like 120mph but they cut the hybrid boost early to save energy.

last four or five races of 2015 I used the clock on IndyCar.com to know when the race starts. And this year at St. Pete as well. And I'm ALWAYS 10-15 mins behind. Today I was literally looking IndyCar's site on my phone and it told me 22 mins until the race started, and I walked downstairs to my pc (25 secs?) and it was lap 18/250.
what the fuck? this isn't like F1 in different time zones, where you might be an hour ahead or behind because you're sleepy. I swear to God the IndyCar site doesn't know when their own races begin

Overall, the race wasn't too bad. They need to run more laps here or slow the cars down or something, because it flew by faster than I thought it would.
Too bad Indycar is going to die soon though. I'll miss it.

I did catch up with Indycar, my first time watching a turnleft race and it was okay but kinda boring. I understand why people like it, it's super high speed, some nice high speed overtaking... but I do like muh corner variety. And tactics, of which there's not much here since you just need to endure until the inevitable yellow flags. It's understandable why there were way so damn many of them given the nature of these tracks, but still.
Pretty fun how Chilton did so well and Aleshin did some nice overtaking in the beginning before the yellow flag bad luck and then the spin later on. Sucks that Rossi is in the back again.
