I could see it drilled into Ozil's head to never go for the goal directly during his time at Madrid. He was playing with Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuain who were all obsessed with goals, the former due to his nature and the two latter due to competing for the starting slot. If he was more selfish Ozil could have easily been dropped by locker room politics/to appease Ronaldo.

He needs those couple of players that'll stay with the club for 10 + years that are actually good and no players except english players will do that. Look at Utd with their core players of giggs and Scholes. They always formed the basis of every one of saf's teams. Same goes for the arsenal of old. Players like Adams for example were always the basis of any team over the period of 20 years.
