Cases like this are the number one reason why cancer scares the shit out of me.
They get it once and say you're cured, but it turns out they didn't catch 100% of it and it's still festering beneath the surface. It continues doing that, you get sick, the doctors tell you you have cancer again - Next thing you know, bang, you're dead.

They never really say you're cured, as far as I understand you go into full remission and all the tumors might be gone but there's always a chance it's metastasised minutely or can simply pop up again (higher chances since it's already been in your system).
So when you're told you have cancer, it's not just "you have a couple of deadly tumors that may or may not be treatable", it's "you're cursed til the likely cancerous end of your life and every weird ache or cough might mean that you're back on the way to your grave."
