It depends how tasteful it is. I watch a lot of Premier League football and having shirt sponsors doesn't detract from it as clubs realise no one will buy the kits if they're ugly as fuck.
Of course, basketball is slightly different as the players and jerseys are much closer to the audience, but I see no reason why it couldn't be implemented well - the commissioners in this sport have generally done an excellent job.
The real way it's going to go down is that there'll be jersey sponsors as well as long ads. It's unfortunate, but true.

NFL is fucked just because they know they can use muh most popular sport to put commercials in after every fucking possession, totally kills the flow. Can anyone tell me why the NBA season is 82 games long? I don't care about game 47, Milwaukee vs Orlando, 2nd of the series of 3. It has no relevance on the playoffs, no drama. Even Warriors vs Spurs has no real season relevance, it's just for bragging rights. At most it should be 58 games - everyone plays each other twice, but even that's too much. At most it should be 40, that's the high end of the "I care about some regular season games" zone. Having 82 games sucks all the drama out of the season, and there's no point in me watching. It seems to have a good effect on statistical measurements, but I don't want to be able to accurately predict sports and I don't gamble. I've not even mentioned how this would cut injuries which have been particularly devastating over the last ~5 seasons. Warriors lost their streak because they had to play double OT against Boston, then face Milwaukee. I want to see the teams at their best every night, which the Warriors weren't against the Bucks because they had no rest. Maybe it's for a bit extra money in tickets, but having fewer games would make it more exclusive, and fuck it, they can drive the ticket prices up to make up for it, slash wages for stadium guys, make more people give a shit enough to watch it on tv. The NFL and Premier League do fine with much shorter seasons, why wouldn't the NBA.
And don't tell me it's so that someone can catch Kareem's scoring record, because that's stupid. Many sports have reformed their leagues so that some records are unattainable.
