James Wade & Robert Thornton begin their World Championship campaigns this evening, as the first round continues at the Alexandra Palace. Sunday was a day of few surprises, with Andy Hamilton the only seed to fall out of the tournament as he was defeated by Joe Murnan in one of the most tedious matches ever broadcast. Mensur Suljovic put in a very strong performance, averaging almost 100 in a 3-1 victory, with the day’s other notable events being Dirk van Duijvenbode busting 180 during his match with Barney, and prelim winner Aleksandr Oreshkin jobbing away a 2 set lead to Mervyn King. In tonight’s action, Rob Thornton faces Alan Norris, then overweight crybaby & somehow probable 2016 Premier League player Michael Smith takes on Jeffrey de Zwaan. Completing the lineup for tonight is James Wade’s tie against the winner of the preliminary round match between Warrick Scheffer & John Michael. Coverage begins at 19:00GMT on Sky Sports Darts/Sky Sports 2.

>Tonight’s matches (best of 5 sets)
Warrick Scheffer v John Michael (Prelim. - best of 3 sets)
Robert Thornton v Alan Norris
Michael Smith v Jeffrey De Zwaan
James Wade v Scheffer/Michael

Oreshkin's persistence to start on 19s was what fucked him last night. Too many times he pulled it left into 7 and had a terrible score afterwards.

Wee Rabbie v Chuck should be the match of the night.
>>
>darts
>>
Finally, time for /180/ again. I'm really looking forward to the 2nd round, when most of the easy targets will have been eliminated, and the matches will last a little longer.
>>
>>64382958
The one negative about the PDC Worlds is that the matches before Christmas are usually really boring. You normally don't get games like MVG-Cube or Shitlock-Evans.
>>
>>64382998
Yes, that's true. While on one hand I'm enjoying the large field of participants, it also results in some predictable blowouts of non-seeded players. We are really lucky that there have been lots of upsets already, othwise it would have been somewhat boring.
>>
How did foreskin fuck that up? I tried to stay awake but failed.
>>
>>64383126
He shat his pants after the 2-0 and couldn't hit the treble anymore.
>>
>>64383126
Oreshkin's scoring vanished. Ended up averaging well under 90.

Meanwhile: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/darts-legend-phil-taylor-hits-7050657

>Multi-millionaire Taylor, 55, scowled: “I can count my money in the bank – I bet he can't. And if I'm brain-dead because I can't count, I have won 16 world titles and he won five, so I must be doing something right. If that makes me brain-dead, I'm glad I am. And you can tell him I'm after my 17th title.”

He is just the king of plebs. To make things worse, he is almost a lock for the semis, due to his soft schedule, featuring nearly every member of his pocket club.

I dunno m8, it's basically the Phil Taylor propaganda channel the rest of the day.
>>
>>64383549
Is it just a case of being contractually obliged to suck his dick or do they really still think he's the one carrying darts?
>>
>>64383535
I know this feel, bro. I managed hitting 3 D25 once, and the 180-counter stands at 8, but still no 170 checkout. Not even close.
>>
>>64383606
stopped counting at about 50 180s, maybe up to 100 by now, that's over 3 years, still play like complete shit a lot of the time, hardest game in the world, people really need to play it and realise how good pros are
>>
>>64383514
There's an overweight Sergio Aguero in Denbtsland's John Michael.

And we're on now!
>>
>>64383679
Would fit in well in "The Sopranos"
>>
Some comfy matches tonight
>>
>>64383647
100 180s in 3 years doesn't sound like shit to me. Maybe it's just the individual perception that one always thinks that you play like shit, despite getting better all the time. But you're right: It's true, it's fucking hard. I did lots of physical sports before starting with darts, and those are also hard, but nothing has the same level of mindfuck as the darts. You have no possibility to get rid of your anger, or to simply power through a slump. The only way is to get your shit together, and that's easier said than done.
>>
stream?
>>
>>64383783
You also need a lot of talent. I've seen seen players hitting 65 average constantly after a year of playing and some can't even manage to score 45 average after 8 years of playing.
>>
If Wade wins tonight, it'll be the first time since the 2010 Worlds that no preliminary qualifier has got past the first round.

The change to sets must have completely taken it out of the prelim qualifiers (Cube and Foreskin aside). That said, it wasn't a particularly good draw for any of them.

Yes, I've seen the same. You can become somewhat good with lots of practice, but to become pro you need talent, too, just like in most sports.
>>
>>64384017
Do your darts lay down like taylors or stand up like a mvg/lewis?
>>
Did scheffer polish his darts or something
>>
>>64384017
hilariously enough, the most popular sports are those you have a chance to become a pro in without any sort of talent
>>
>>64383867
>>64384017
a big problm is a lot of people probably have terrible throwing motions that they should change but arent aware of it or know how to change it

>>
>>64384172
yeah its retarded, i throw like that because i pull my throw low a lot
>>
>>64384164
I dont know why but when i first threw a dart i held it at the back of the barrel so it was more of a push, now i hold it right at the front and pull it more, im not even concious of when the change happened
>>
>>64384039
They usually stand up a little, but not as much as Aideys. I've always been wondering how Taylor does it that his darts seem to stick stright in the board. I couldn't do that, even if I wanted to. Lately, I noticed the unhealthy habit that my darts seem to be slightly tilted to the left (I'm left-handed, by the way). I think it has something to do with the starting point of the throwing motion, but I'm not 100% sure by now.

>>64384080
I've seen motions I couldn't believe, and those guys played way better than me. I guess that aside from a few basics that everyone should follow, it's largely about how you feel comfortable. Even the Rus from yesterday managed to get to the worlds with his 1/2 of a throwing motion. Until yesterday, I would have called bullshit on everone trying to tell me this was even possible.
>>
Scheffer reminds me of Sebastion Rode.
>>
>>64384206
From experience longer stems make the dart lie lower but i guess it depends on the weight/barrel

That's not a good run of form. Bear in mind his Grand Slam run consisted of Geert De Vos, Jonny Clayton, Terry Jenkins and Kong before Taylel bent him over. Not the most convincing set of players.

I really don't see the point of spring loaded darts these days. I thought they were a relic from a time when the boards were shit, and it was supposed to help with preventing fallouts. Doesn't seem necessary today.

I heard that for beginners, heavier darts are a good choice, so I went for 25g. Also, I thought it was a good idea to choose a model with fairly straight barrels, as some feature a changing diameter and might be more difficult to handle.

also have to factor into account your height, throw type, hold on the dart etc
like I said it's just down to your own "personal" preference on darts; reiterating the need to try out several dart types of weights, shapes and sizes to find one that works for you.
>>
>le D10 man
>>
>>64389756
Maybe I should try out some of my pals darts, before buying new ones. Funny, how this never occured to me until now.
>>
>>64389792
it's also one of the thoughts I've been having on why darts hasn't been "worked out" yet.

In the sense of best dart weight, barrel, stem and flight combination with arm height angle etc

but yes it really is down to practicing and trying what works for you best. I have these horrible darts with huge barrels on them (don't ask for the weight) bought just to play with casually.

If I was actually serious, i'd go to a proper darts retailer or specialist sports store. Any decent store who wants your money will let you try them out.

I doubt that something like that exists somewhere near me. Unfortunately, the darts infrastructure is still bad in Germany, despite the increased TV presence. Might take a few years until this catches up with the hype. We are having a really hard time at the moment finding a pub with a steel dart board close to us. Most do have either nothing or soft tip. I guess that sounds like 3rd world for UK ears.
>>
For any of you near LONDON, here is a decent shop

http://www.dartsgb.co.uk/

They've got a board set up in the shop, and the bloke working there looks at your throw, and suggests a load of different types to try out.

And that D20 concludes a fantastic night of darts. The Machine threw a 96 average in what was an effortless 3-0 performance against the Greek qualifier John Michael, who never got into the game.

Elsewhere, we saw the highest seed eliminated so far as Robert Thornton played horrendously against the fantastic Alan Norris who went through 3-0 winner. Repeating his pal Bunt Man's achievement from last year could put Chuck inside the Top 32 earlier than people expect; regardless of how he does in the Worlds, he will surely get into that elite group of PDC players by this time next year.

We also had the tightest game so far as Michael Smith yet again floundered at the start of his match against the promising Jeffrey de Zwaan before once again pulling a victory out of the bag in the sudden death leg. With a performance like that at just 19, the Black Cobra is destined for a great future.

That's it for the preliminary round in the 2016 Worlds too. Eight matches of varying quality, from the sub-70 slog of Thanawat v THE CUBE to the incredibly tight Oreshkin-Lim fixture from last night. Does the set format help these guys for the second game? Based on this year's evidence... probably not. The heroes of the prelims were of course Rene Eidams and the Nut who pushed MVG and Merv respectively very close to elimination.

We have the penultimate night of Round 1 matches tomorrow from 7:00pm as usual:

>Dean Winstanley v Ronny Huybrechts
>Wes Newton v Cristo Reyes
>Dave Chisnall v Rowby-John Rodriguez
>Terry Jenkins v Darin Young

See you then.
