My refutation: Girardi and Staal. Long term contracts, big cap hits, they are both garbage. NO ONE else will take them. This team will be carrying this cap weight for years, and allow solid players to leave for cap issues. They currently have about half AHLers, and can't get real players because of their cap situation. There is no escape. Lundquist has about 3 good years left in him, and he will spend those years behind the shit the Rangers call a defense. Lundquist makes $8.5 mill, Nash $8, Stepan $6.5, Girardi and Stall $5.5 each, about $4.5 each for McDonagh and Zuccarello. Doesn't leave anything to sign free agents, and no one wants to help the Rangers by taking some overpaid, long term shit off their hands.

I'm not an Oilers fan, but Draisaitl looks promising, Hall is great, and McDavid is going to be the real thing. Darnell Nurse and Klefbom, some of their main D prospects are starting to play, and look good.
Hall and McDavid alone are more talent than the Rangers have on their entire team.

AV has also been switching the pairings a lot which I think has been an issue especially for Girardi. They both still will probably be an issue long term since as you said no one is gonna take them, maybe Staal if he can pull his shit together
