Yeah, York is the underlying problem but Tomsula is not a good coach.
I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt before the season started but he's clearly in over his head.
And we don't really have the kind of team that can bring along a coach that doesn't know what he's doing. If we had a talented team with veteran leadership, maybe we could waste our time waiting for Tomsula to find his coaching feet.
But we have and will have a young team with guys who need good coaching to develop their talent.
I don't trust York to actually fix the team but if he was going to, firing Tomsula would be a step in the right direction.

I've never seen such a bloodletting as what happened this year. Harbaugh, Justin Smith, Gore, Willis, Iupati, Borland, and on and on ... All were let go or retired. Even if Eddie DeBartolo still owned the team it would have been a bad season.
Tomsula is not a good coach but it doesn't matter. Bill Walsh could come back from the dead and even he wouldn't be able to do anything positive with the management this team has.
York really ought to have a serious talk with Eddie D. to put the right people in charge of the operation and then let the football people run the team. All Jed needs to do is sign the checks and, if necessary, get rid of trash but only after being certain that the trash is truly trash.

I had hope when he spoke with Eddie D. and brought on Harbaugh. I don't know what really happened with Harbaugh. Maybe he would have burned out or maybe he was burning out the team. However, it seems that Harbaugh was squeezed out by some other people in the front office.
The 49ers front office has not done a good enough job in the past decades to be given the authority to force a winning coach out. So it seems like it's back to the Erickson/Nolan/Singletary days.

it's pretty common knowledge by now that the two of them just butt heads often and didn't get along. they couldn't even work together, like that time york walked in on him with the team and harbaugh told york the meeting was for "men only". there was also that time when harbaugh's contract was trying to be negotiated before the 2014 season and he had no personal contact with baalke because he took it so personal that he couldn't even be polite the rest of the time to baalke.
basically, the rest of the front office had labeled him as confident and passionate to the point of being obnoxiously arrogant, and winning wasn't enough to tolerate that. they put having a coach they could control as priority over having one that won.
