You could argue that they bowled 5 overs too many or that lyon should have been introduced, but smith showed he wanted to play a differnt type of cricket than just simply targetting the stumps and trying to blow teams away with injuries to starc and johnsons retirement. In a game they were never going to lose, there wasn't much wrong with it IF Smith was thinking about the bigger picture.
I'm sure with the india scenario his first priority was the series win and then the test match win so I can understand that decision.
I've yet to see Smith drop back double sweepers like cook, or try heavy handed fielding repositions like mccullum so for a new captain starting out, hes at least better than those 2.
