I saw the Iowa Hawkeye coach at a grocery store in front of the selection committee yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person and that I was excited for our game tomorrow, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for the #4 seed or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken back, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “undefeated? undefeated? undefeated?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to play the game I saw him trying to walk out the doors with Iowa still in the playoffs and the B1G Championship trophy without the game being played yet.
Jeff Long was at the counter and was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to play for the trophy first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear him, but eventually turned back around and brought it to the counter.
When he took the trophy and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped Jeff and told him to scan it individually “to prevent any losses being put on it” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s the process. After he scanned it and put it in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting him by yawning really loudly.
